    I TRIED SO MANY PRODUCTS. On a whim bought a $5.00 bottle of Aussie conditioner and $3 Dippity Do Sport Gel. Put the gel in SOAKING wet hair. It worked. I damn near cried. Get a lot of crunch but a shake and a scrunch and it’s good. Sometimes simple is better.

    Anthony Dickey is educated, confident, well articulated and infuses inspiration for any hair texture desiring this method and education for everyone in his delivery. I'm kinda ashamed to say that after 8 years of being free of ANY chemicals have I found the right way for wash and wear hair and that Dickey delivers true education of how to for wash and wear hair-the right way. After tons of youtube videos, noone really had it truly "correct" and if they did, they were fortunate. It's ironic in my journey that a salon-centric forum gave the best advice after getting away from salons because of how they seemed to be disrespectful and clueless to hair period. Thanks Dickey!!!!

    I have to say it is soooo refreshing to hear a salon owner talking about and assisting natural hair women with tips and products! Many shy away from even taking us as clients and those who do, try and take us back to flat ironing or chemical treatments thanks for showing your a well rounded "Professional" cosmetologist.

    Love this video. It ultimately helped me to ditch the typing sys and embrace wash n go styling. I have hair that has waves, curls, coils of multiple sizes and when dry w/out product most of my hair is frizzy and undefined. Typing your hair when bone dry gives you a false sense of what your hair is capable of doing. I thought the only styling options were twist outs, braid out etc. using this method has helped me add wash n wear styling to my repertoire. Thanx for this video Mr. Dickey.

    Thank you for the encouragement. I did it Several times (because I had a week off & it takes HOURS to dry) & the results were the same.
    The texture didn't change with half a bottle of conditioner in it. So even though it was "manageable" nary a curl pattern could be seen or felt. My mother had the same issue and my grandson has the same resistant hair type.
    Trust me, I'm glad the method works for my other sisters out there. I'm all for Natural when able or desired.

      Robin Smith get a clarifying shampoo! You probably already have sealing things on it from before you were using the method. Deva Curl has an incredible one called Buildup Buster. I would bet you have some left over silicone or something else blocking your hair from getting the moisture from the conditioner down inside the shaft.

    This is great advice, and I hope those who wish to capture their natural curls at least gives it a try. I have been natural for 5 months, but continued to wash with a sudsing shampoo. It wasn't until a month ago that I stopped. I was using both a sudsing and non-sudsing and noticed a very nice curl pattern when I used the non-sudsing. The light bulb came on; the suds was drying my hair out. No more suds for me! My curls are popping and it doesn't get hard & dry.

    I'm a natural newbie and I have to say I'm extremely overwhelmed (hoping not to have regrets). My closet is full of hair products and I feel none of them touched on what Dickey mentioned. Maintaining curl pattern when hair is dry. I will definitely purchase his products and I'll try to get a hair appointment in the very near future. The first thing that comes to mind when I'm viewing is educational videos is QVC & HSN. Dickey - have your team look into this. I'm a huge fan of both! If Carol's Daughter can get a deal on HSN, I'm sure you can as well. Be Blessed!

    Hi Dicky!
    Thanks for all your fantastic information. I have been natural for 20 years, in locks for 18 of those years. I big chopped my locks in 2013. I have medium length 3C/4A low porosity hair. Ive been doing my wash and go weekly for almost a year and I believe I have mastered it. But this last time (yesterday) something happened that elongated my curl pattern and reduced my beautiful shrinkage (Yes, I love my shrinkage because it makes my hair curlier fuller and bouncier). So here is what I did this time: 1) prepoo overnight with coconut oil, 2) co wash w/as i am coconut cowash, 3) deep condition with shea moisture 10 n 1 masque, 3) as i am leave-in, 4) curling jelly. 5) air dried but no shrinkage and more frizz than usual.
    So this morning I tried to fix it. I rinsed thoroughly with water, saturated it with tea tree tingle, waited, rinsed, raked a little jojoba oil through to seal, then raked my eco styler through, air dried and still no shrinkage. My question Dicky is what happened to my shrinkage and what can i do to get it back?
    Please help!

    Lush cosmetics actually has great hair products..I tried a sample of one of their shampoos called "blousey" and just after one wash, i have never seen my hair so shiny and hydrated after shampooing! My curl pattern was super hella defined and hanging down. My hair type is 3c/4a.

      I don't know about "Blousey" but I used to use Lush's Curly Wurly until I realized it has sulfates in it so you should probably check that out if you want to be poo free. I used to love it because it left my hair shiny too but in the end it dried my hair.

    My hair stays wet for ages!!!! It will still be dry in the middle for about two days. I have tons of hair with tons of volume. I always get overcharged at salons because they use about 4 oz of product on me. This really makes washing or wetting my hair on a daily basis a no go. Also my curls never get a chance to fully set. I've tried diffusing but I'm probably doing it wrong or need to buy a different diffuser because I end up with a frizzy hair ball. My hair has tons of volume so I feel like diffusing makes it worse. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks :)

    Have you ever tackled the wash n go on true 4C hair. it seems like most of the ladies you have videos on do not have real 4C hair. They have combination hair type with very little 4C type hair at all. Will you do a video with majority or all 4C hair type? that would be awsome. Beside the one things I see people do when they try and apply your method is the mess with their hair while its still wet, jacking up your method. I wanna see some one do this without messing it up by touching. I figure who better than you.

    • @Artemis583
      @Artemis583 10 лет назад +14

      The different hair texture classifications are just a (highly flawed) guideline, there is no such thing as a "true" 4a, b, c, etc. It's just a visual range (created in the 90s by a black man who hated natural hair, but I digress), and has nothing to do with maintaining healthy natural hair. Why does everything have be demo'd in a video? Listen to what he is saying. The point of him describing the process in great detail is because everyone's texture pattern is different BUT these are basic hair care practices that apply to everyone with textured hair. That is his whole philosophy behind his book, hair products, and salon. Those concerned with wondering if this works on 4a, b, c, x, y, z and nitpicking on curl pattern are missing the whole point of what he is saying. And furthermore what makes a "successful" wash n go to you could be totally a "failure" to someone else. Yet another reason why the requested demo is useless.

      i'm a true 4c hair chick and his method has truly been the only method for me. I usually diffuse for about 20 minutes because the drying time on 4c is at least a 12 hour process. I thank the hair gods for finding you because was getting ready to go back to the perms I swear.

    Hi. I tried the wash and go method and it was a success. Had tried it before and it didn't work. Thank you. However, waking up th next morning my hair is hard and dry flattened to my head because it's not long enough to pull up or back. How do you make it look nice the next morning? I added oil to help loosen it and that didn't work. Trying to find something besides twisting. That's a lot of work. Be blessed and thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

    I bought your products and have done this method for about 4 times now. My hair has a different texture throughout. in the back ofit, I have about a 4B/C with very tightly coiled, pretty curls. In the front of it and top of it there is no real curl at all. It does not coil at all. it sort of zigzags and is not very nice I heard you say that over time, the hair will get softer and softer doing this . COuld it be that my hair needs to be cut down and I start over? Also I was under a hooded dryer for 2 hours and my hair was still wet. Is there anything that will speed up the drying process? I am trying to do this at night to wake up to a fresh head of curls daily. It's just not working for me. There has to be something I am doing wrong or my texture, while it loves the hydration and conditioner, is jut not going to curl all nice and pretty like others I have seen. It is also not full of body the way others are. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Frustrated American-born Afrcan

      Hi, I have very thick and coarse 4b/4c hair. I came across Dickey 3 days ago and his method had changed my life!! My first attempt was semi successful because, like yours, my hair takes forever to dry. I air dried for 2 hours then tried to use the diffuser to complete the drying process. Thatbwas a fail. On day 2 I sat under the dryer for an hour. My hair was dry on the outside but soaked at the roots. It looked good enough though. So today, day 3, I got up 2 hours earlier than normal to give it another try. I cowashed, liberally applied my products (a leave-in conditioner and eco styler gel) but, what I did differently was I used my hand to squeeze out the extra product after my curls had been "captured". Once my entire head was done, I flipped my hair to one side and smoothed over the entire section using the praying hands technique, which helps to.further capture your curls while removing excess product. Then I flipped it over and did the same thing on the other side. I then covered my face, gave my hair a good shake to clump the curls even further, and allowed my hair to air dry without touching it. Now, it has taken it 8 hours to completely dry BUT, they are the MOST BEAUTIFUL CURLS I HAVE EVER ACHIEVED throughout the course of my 3 year natural hair journey. And I was still able to go about my work day in the usual manner without any moisture on my neck or shirt!! Now, the shrinkage is there (my hair is right at bra strap length when stretched, with the WnG it's right above my shoulders) but I don't even care because it looks so good!!! I NEVER thought I could do a wash and go because my hair is so thick and coarse and dry. Boy was I wrong!! I told my daughter and my sister that I will never do another twist out because this method is IT for me!! I hope you haven't given up yet. Sometimes you have to just tweak it here and there to suit the needs of your hair. For me, the third time was indeed a charm!!!

    This may be a dumb questions but why can't you just leave the conditioner in? Especially if you are going to wash or rinse again the day day.

      Well traditional conditioners aren't meant to be left on the hair. It can irritate your scalp and it can add to product buildup which defeats the whole purpose of having healthy, long hair. I use a creamy leave in, and pair it with a HAIR MILK. But if you really want to use conditioner, mix a little with warm aloe vera juice and use that as a base for your stylers.

    I use creme of nature and for some reason, my hair curls up more and is more detangled with the shampoo in than it does with the conditioner. Why is that? Does that mean I would just apply my styler after the shampoo instead? Also, does it have to be a styler or can it be a moisturizing lotion?

    When i wet my hair down with conditioner I don't see curls, only bentonite clay gets my curls to show, then i haven't found a styler that actually keep my curl pattern. Is the curl lesson where you'd teach me this?

      +Melly B. (The Real Melly B.) my hair used to be the same way until i realized my hair wasnt moisturized enough and i had to find ways to let water into my cuticles (i have low porosity hair)

    • @therealmellyb
      @therealmellyb 8 лет назад

      Soundysue same low porosity but when my hair is super hydrated (after steaming with deep cond) it actually puffs up not defines

    • @JMJsama
      @JMJsama 8 лет назад +4

      Melly B. i actually don't deep condition. for the longest i've only tried to moisturize my hair with only water and no conditioner which helped alot with keeping my curls defined when dry, though my hair would frizz up a couple of days after. and now recently i've been using conditioner thoroughly while my hair is soaking wet ( i apply it while still in the shower, i just step away from the running water) which helps even more since the conditioner helps trap water inside the cuticle, but i don't leave it in for too long since i looked into the science behind conditioner and realized it's unnecessary to leave it in longer than a few minutes. but in both cases i used ALOT of water, unlike before where i would avoid getting my hair soaking wet more than once a week. deep conditioning did nothing for me, only adding more water did. i don't think steaming it would be enough, especially with the conditioner in the way, blocking your cuticles from receiving more moisture. if you're gonna steam your hair, i suggest doing it right out of the shower with soaking wet hair, then applying conditioner afterwards.

    Thanks so much Dickey. I attend Taren's hair event in Dec and received gift bag. Finally used the Quench Conditioner and finish cream. Its been 7 months since bc and my curly afro looks so cute. Its imperative to wet and apply conditioner daily when wearing wash n go. Will applying water alone reactivate conditioner for next day hair. Please advise.

    Hi. Right now on my scalp looks and feels like it is in bad condition. I feel scabs on my scalp and my scalp is very itchy. After I use regular shampoo. After about 1 day I see dandruff and experience itch. I seem to be struggling trying to get my scalp clean. My question is should I then start my week with a sulfate free shampoo just to try and remove the scab and dandruff and then every other day clean with water and then conditioner and capture my curls with my favorite styling product? My biggest struggle is my scalp.

    Hi Dicky, what would you do for someone like me who has two different hair textures keep her curl pattern. From the crown of my head back is wavy, curly and much more looser than the hair that is from the crown forward. That hair is much kinkier and thicker. The curls in the back last much longer and are more define than the front. Please help. Thank you in advance.

    I'm 33 years old I've had a relaxed since i was 8 years old. I never knew my hair was curl and dry. I just transition for a year. A week ago i cut the last of the relaxed hair off and I'm stuck. I have small curls in the back and very loose one on the top and some spots that only curl on the ends. I don't know what products to use. all I know is that when I had a relaxer my hair will not go past my shoulders but when I was younger my hair grew past my back down to my elbow. my envision is to have healthier stronger hair. but I don't know what to do seriously.
