So I'm 50, and have I think 3c, 4a hair... I'm mixed but as long as my hair is relaxed you would think I'm white.... Anyway, this year I noticed my ends were completely straight... Looked ridiculous wet, but as long as I blow dryer and flat ironed I could mask it... The biggest problem was detangling my hair with this damaged hair on my head.... It literally hurt... So not only did it look terrible when it was wet, but now it was painful. I was always ashamed of my hair, but this year I needed to let it go. I decided to get what they call a big chop. I looked up Deva cut professional as I live on Long Island in white suburbia where no one knows how to del with my hair.... Well apparently the deva specialist did not either... I went to her told her what I wanted to do, and that was go back to my natural state and if that meant cutting it all off so be it.... Well she hacked the back, and left it long in the front.... My hair was so dry from being abused all its life there was only curl in the back where she had cut, and they were struggling curls I might add... In the from where she left it long it looked like snakes were coming out of my head.... I left the salon with wet hair and a "it looks cute!," when I knew deep down I looked like Madusa! This was not what I expected at all... I thought maybe I was over reacting... Go to sleep, and I will have a fresh perspective ... I would certainly get used to it... Its just I was out of my comfort zone... Again, I am 50, and a professional woman so I am extra critical on myself. The next day came, and my perspective changed all right.... Why did I pay this person? Why didn't I day something, as the snakes just did not look right! I dare grabbed the scissors and cut the rest off myself and BOOM, I had a full head of curls.... Like the back they were struggling but they were there.... I am now almost 2 months post big chop and my curls are SOOO much more happy! Unfortunately it has been a lot of work.... I do co-wash everyday to be able to manage the ONE single hair style I can sport, but its like they needed moisture rehabilitation and look better and better everyday.... Now its just a waiting game for growth. Moral of the story, find someone like Anthony Dickey that actually cares when you embark on a journey like this..... I wish I would have known about him prior to my professional disaster.... I will never trust the Deva specialist AGAIN..... Thanks for all these tips and videos.... What would the curl world do with out you!? PS: I do also use a non sulfate shampoo every week to avoid build up, because my hair inhales product!
Hi Dickey! I live in Atlanta Georgia and I WISH! I could buy your products at my local Walgreens ..... Ang Also I can't find a Target that carries Hairules either... :-(
When I wash my hair , my hair is poofy - ALITTLE curly but once it dries my hair is pooooofy ! Ive been watching tutorials on the wash-n-go hairstyle but every video showed girls with hair that was already curly before they even applied gel. I wanted to know if my hair would come out as defined & neat as theirs once I do my wash n go. Also , i wanted to know if it was possible that once i master the wash n go technique -- if i do it over and over again would my hair get curlier and curlier each time I wash it . Thanks : )
Hi Dickey, i have started locking my hair, can i use your hair care products on my locks? My locks are washed 6-8 weeks( because I jog daily) with shampoos that produce suds. What products from your line should I start with. Thanks
