The rise of the ghost

Absolutely one of the most incredible intros to a game I've ever seen. This game is a 10/10.
And then they follow it up with one of the best title sequences later in the game.

I honestly couldn't help but chuckle a little. Guy thinks he's gonna have an honorable duel, introduces himself and his heritage proudly, but Khan is just like Yea I dont give a fuck *lights on fire*

Interesting thing about this is it actually kinda happened. A lot of the specifics in the game like names dates and places are altered, but during first contact between Mongols and Samurai, this kind of thing happened several times. Some top dog samurai would peacock and declare his heritage, and the Mongols would cut them down with arrows at range, gang up on him with 6 dudes, kill them from horseback. The rest of the samurai resistance was them basically getting a crash course in guerrilla warfare and re-learning ambush tactics. Though more than 90% of the Mongols were killed by a tsunami while on their ships. Which then happened AGAIN during their second invasion. It's a big part of why the Japanese have an obsession with tsunamis, divine wind (kamikaze), and until recently, a sort of superior attitude when it came to defense of their island. After what happened with the Mongols, they believed the gods were protecting Japan. Which ended up backfiring severely in 1864 and, of course, in 1945.
This game basically shows you the creation of Japanese folk culture that inspired so much of their history. It's a true masterpiece.
Fun fact: The developers used Jin as a symbolism of the Typhoons that wiped out the Mongols. Obviously they needed a way to lead into the fictional plot/character they wanted and so they were able to tie Jin into this reference in a cool way, making his sword with stormwind designs. Thus, Jin was the "Typhoons" that brought the Mongols down.
Coincidentally, I named my horse "Kaze" at the end of the game, without knowing any of this. Now it seems pretty fitting.

Lord Adachi didn't deserve that death
Its a mongolian cultural thing to find its offensivly obtuse that a person introduces themselves on the success on family name alone. He was going to fight fairly- which is why he showed up-but changed his mind after adachi boasted. But on the other hand- its an old fashioned japanese thing to make it known that you come from a respected family with a good name to ensure reliability & professionalism/assurance. I love the subtle culture clash thats never explained. History is always the best story telling.
@@j.f.osiris7060 I don't think he ever intended to fight fairly. Khutan made it pretty clear throughout the story that he purposely exploited the rigid compliance the Samurai placed on their code.
By killing Lord Adachi in such a disrespectful way he goaded the Samurai into charging head long into massed infantry backed up by gunpowder artillery. A weapon that the Japanese both lacked and considered dishonorable to utilize themselves.
Additionally, Khutan has his forces disrespect the islands culture at any and every opportunity to break the spirit of the people from stealing their religious artifacts, killing them wholesale without provocation, taking their food, and coercing Japanese mercenaries into their forces.

And then after a bit more time of gameplay when it comes up on screen “Sucker Punch Presents......Ghost of Tsushima” 🤤🤤 Absolutely glorious opening and title sequence! Only 7 more trophies to Platinum! 😆

I loved how this game immediately laid down the Mongol invasion, as we saw, they had absolutely no respect for honorable combat or traditions, they were there to conquer and control by any means, which is what lead to the development of Jin into the Ghost. I can't put in words how incredible this game was

@@keknov5555 nah it wasn't. Impressionable zoomers had preconceived notions about the game and didn't give it a fair chance. The storyline was great, and gameplay was fun. I didn't care for the "woke" aspects of the game, but everything else about it was top notch.

Samurai: I'm a descendant of the "random great samurai" and you whoever you are must respect me even if you don't know who I am.
Mongol: I never heard about you and your highlights on battlefield. I don't know you so why should I respect you random shouting little samurai? But if you want blood you'll got it.
Basically, and I prefer the ladder from experience
I like how quickly it establishes the man the Khan is. He doesn't give a damn about honor or tradition. He's a pure pragmatist who only cares about winning. The samurai tried to demoralize the Mongols, but in seconds, Kotun Khan flipped it around and demoralized the samurai instead. He's a monster, and that's why the samurai lost so utterly.
And that's what makes him one of the most badass antagonist I have seen in a while in games

@@shiningfaceofluzon5594 kind of. They still believed Mongols were better than everyone else and that it was their manifest destiny to rule the world. And of course they believed Genghis was the best there ever was or would ever be. But so long as you accepted that reality, you could expect fair treatment and respect based on your abilities. After all, they were content to let most of their vassals rule themselves and pay tribute to the Khan. China being the big exception, as the Mongols tried to rule the Chinese directly with mixed results.
I just know from the game that Lord Adachi was Tsushima's best swordman. It was a waste throwing your best card from the very beginning

That’s how samurai combat worked: they sent their finest samurai to duel their finest soldier to introduce the battle. The mongols just didn’t do the same thing.
@@ea.fitz216 actually they did in a way. They sent Khotun Khan who was probably one of their best warriors during the invasion. The only thing is the Mongols had a different way of fighting.
@@N120Xeno I was referring to single combat. A Japanese samurai who fought the mongols after Tsushima said “according to our manner of fighting we must first call out by name someone from the enemy ranks and then attack in single combat. But the mongols took no notice at all of such conventions”.
The Khan himself was only there to lead, not to fight.

Just got this on PS5 after it passed by me last year. Absolutely amazing opening for an incredible game. And the soundtrack is beautiful.
Is it the Adachi Clan armour that jin is wearing here? Cuz the level 3 red dye samurai clan armor with the samurai clan helmet in level 2 looks really similar. Also Lord Adachi's armour looks like the hero of tsushima armour that you get from the deluxe edition.
Correct on all. I wanted that red dye so bad I did Masako's mission as fast as possible.

@@darthpigeon all the clans have very simular armor, but they can also customize it to their liking if they wish. Lord Adachi and Lady Masako's sons wore the same armor Jin wears here, just a different color. It's essentially just standard samurai armor that all clans could wear, but many gave it their own look, like lord Adachi and Lord Shimura. But yeah, it was used by all samurai, not just one clan

I am a Ukrainian soldier, and after the Russian invasion, this scene feels much more powerful
So 5 clans were on the beach 80/5 that's 16 samurai per clan and that's really all they brought.
I wonder how many on the island total?
They literally said how many they had.... it's a island and not on the mainland... they held back the forces themselves
There were also vassals in every clan and ronins fighting , plus civilians helping too.Also clan sakai was decimated, probably only Jin and the 2-3 friends he mentioned in the komoda mission later were part of clan.
This intro is up there with the intro to The Lord of The Rings: Return of The King.

it is kill or be killed in the war why they would fight him 1 on 1. Mongols kills enemies as fast as possible cause they dont want to lose their warriors. And they re need to earn their position as fast as possible cause they re just landing on tsushima. No time to waste just on 1 enemy while enemies gets ready into position when someone dies.Mongols not being coward they re just being clever there cause they know mind tricks.
No samurai expected them to fire him. Cause of theyre non honorable loss samurais lose their minds or focus (u guys can see that 2:45)and just charging them in rage. To me it looks like mind trick. While samurais are charging in rage(bloodthrust) mongol warriors are counting their enemies(focusing) getting ready and doing their tactic stuff.
No wonder their leader caught up so fast XD cause mongols played mind games there.
If you look deeper into tactic stuff mongols are just being smart during the war more like doing mind tricks or playing mind games to their enemy.

How the fuck did Last of us 2 win game of the year
something i thought about after beating the game and having time to reflect, annoyingly without the amazing spring bath to go with it lol but i was wondering why the game starts off with jin wearing the adachi style armor. I get why he does not wear his father's armor but why not clan sakai armor in general because we do see fellow warriors in that armor so clearly it's not just something his father had custom made except for the antlers. This armor is specifically introduced as a style the adachi clan wear as given by masako and it matches her outfit, the shirt color is just different but the armor is the same. Did his guilt run so deep that he could not even be associated with his clan at all? Or is it just a saving on rendering assets as that style armor will be most available for longer parts of the game so they made it his default as well? I have no clue it was just a curious decision.
This game was amazing though and the biggest stand out moment for me was the yarikawa camp seige mission and gaining ghost stance. I guess the only complaint i really have is one two major charm slots and not enough reason to switch them. The only real useful ones i used for the ENTIRETY of the game was the resource duplication and gain health when not in combat so i dont have to use resolve all the time. I found nothing else was worth switching those charms for because those two were just so valuable compared to anything else.
I'm sure some of the charms from the 1.1 update will catch your fancy.
what are those explosive projectiles being fired? I cannot imagine technology being that advanced back then....

Is called Hawcha, is a arrow launcher based off in gunpowder rockets. Its appearance is anachronistic since it has invented 100 years later but is cool.
This whole game isn't very historically accurate. It happens during the Kmakura period of Japan. The samurai wouldn't have had that kind of armor until the Edo period I believe and they wouldn't have had the katana until shortly after the Mongols had invaded. They had a thinner, longer sword called the tachi. There's a lot more inaccuracies throughout the game, but these are the only ones I see just from this scene. love the game to death tho.
They did have those type of explosive projectiles then. The chinese had the first things that were close to guns and the mongols took control of that. Hand canons made with canon balls and gunpowder, rocket spears and hand grenades called Thunder Crash bombs.

As a Japanese I actually prefer the english dub since the facial and mouth movements don’t fit the Japanese dub it bugs me, but that’s my preference.

The lip sync is set for English. The Japanese dub is not synced for the english version. I tried to start in japanese couldn't make it past the beach because the lip sync.

Who else is not from Japan but played this game with Japanese audio and English subtitles? Although the English voice actors have done a superb job, the game doesn't feel authentic to me without the Japanese audio

Yes when it happens simply pause the scene. Unpause. I used this two or three times so far and it worked each time.

Samurai had a code wich didnt allow them to retreat of be defeated, they will either come home victorious or die trying in the battlefield
The historical background depicted in this game is inaccurate. For example, the Japanese soldiers' armor and costumes and Japanese building in this game are from the late 16th century, not the late 13th century (at the time of the Mongol invasion). Westerners like the word "Samurai", but in Japan at that time, it was more popular to call it "Bushi", "Buke", "Bujin", "Bumon" instead of "Samurai". In addition, "Bushi (Samurai)", which has a master-slave relationship with the "Kamakura-dono(Kamakura Shogunate)", was called "Gokenin". The Mongolian soldiers who attacked Tsushima in this game were mostly Mongolian soldiers, but in real history, there were more Korean soldiers.
Playing this game in English is like having pineapple on pizza, absolutely disgusting
