First I Love the DeWalt funeral 🤣🤣...and wowsers on the Strip down Loads and loads Of hardwork sanding and sanding etc to these gorgeous MCM pieces ...and I always love your tips and tricks...thank you Rea 🥰❣️🙌
The stripping on this project was crazy - worth the result but turned this project into a break even money wise. Glad you enjoyed the funeral hard not to laugh while doing that - not sure what the neighbors thought.
Wonderful video Ria! You were absolutely correct when you said it was masculine. I think it actually looks better than new! Your tutorials are so helpful and interesting. Great job all around!
Thank you Anita glad you enjoyed it. I am so happy with the way it turned out really good looking set now. I cant believe how badly that purple was put on.
What an absolutely BEAUTIFUL transformation!! I learned a lot about staining ( wipe up ) painting edge bands ( start at bottom …go up ) and putting primer on metal handles…WOW! Just GORGEOUS 🌟 Thank you for sharing😊kim
Thank you so much for this video! I have 2 sets of Mid-Century bedroom furniture that my mom and dad purchased when they setup house keeping in the 50's. It's the same furniture that was in their bedroom, and me and my sister's bedroom. Now that both of my parents have passed, I plan to refinish the furniture and give it another lifetime of use. Your video has taught me so much, and gives me confidence that I'll be able to do this and be satisfied with the outcome. Please, keep your videos coming!
Thank you makes me so happy to give people the confidence to try something for them self. I hope you have been able to get into the project. I've had a couple of weeks off RUclips but there will be more videos soon.
OhMyGoodness Ria!!!🙏🏻🕊🙏🏻 At the beginning of the video-I was thinking-she’s going to have a ceremony for poor DeWalt!!! Loved it!!! Loved this tutorial on so many levels-swiping motions with the stain & black paint-I hate taping!!! I’m not a red type stain person-but Loved the color!!! Gonna try to say this right. Loved the depth of the stain with just stain in certain places to bring out a wood grain that is so pretty & more natural looking!!! I prob butchered that, but I think you understand!!! Another note, was when you put the paint stripper on and time lapsed-it looked like little vines “growing” across the piece!!! I Love this set for a boys room & even a college guy setting on journey outside of the Dorm!!! Love❤️💫❤️
I had a feeling when i set the camera up to film the stripping it would look pretty good i like how it turned out too. I've had that red stain quite a long time i am not the biggest fan either on furniture its great on hardwood floors but i think for this piece it just tied it in nicely. It was hard to keep a straight face during the ceremony we both keep watching that part back turned out funny.
This is such a stunning result 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 And thanku for explaining things the way that u do, it’s very helpful in understanding all the things that need to be considered to get the results that u want & the processes that are needed to be undertaken 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much. Really nice to hear you like how i go into a time a lot of detail. There are so many steps in doing pieces Ive been doing this a long time and I have so much to learn still but i really like to be able to share what i know with you and everyone watching.
@@RIA I'm new subscriber. I have watched a several of your videos but not all of them. So I was pleasantly surprised with humor of the whole ordeal. 🤣 But I do know how it is to miss your tools. Mine is currently missing in action. I'm going crazy trying to find it. Keep up the good work. I do love your work. I follow a couple of furniture flipping channels. I can tell you are one of the more knowledgeable flippers. I appreciate you content and knowledge 😌
Thank you so much - I like to think I have quite a few good videos out there now over lots of different styles. I like to push my self to try new things. I've been doing this for a long time before its made it to RUclips and I love to push my self sometimes it works sometimes it dont but as long as you can laugh about it its okay. Dont dive to deep into the archives some of the early stuff is pretty bad.
I think the whole set is stunning,,definitely masculine lines,,,,wonderful work ,,,I think for hand painted, hand done piece,,750.00 at least,,it is hand work,,much better than factory finishing,,
That furniture turned out great! You were right about it looking masculine. I love that about it. I think you should up the price you expect to get because it’s so different
Pricing is such a strange thing sadly i had to spend so much in paint stripper on this one it wont be very profitable at all. This took so much more time than i was expecting too i love the end result so it was worth it.
Thank you when I was about half way through the stripping I was to far to turn back it really did start to feel like a labor. I am delighted with the way it turned out so it was worth it.
Thank you, right before I started the channel I did a full set just like this. So going into it I had a feeling this set would be just as nice. I love it.
First time watching your you tube video ! Very informative and can see your love of what you do ! Those pieces turned out beautiful and you put a lot of thought and process into bringing them back to their glory🎉
I have a similar set. Not sure what's underneath the blond/white surface. I've been looking for info on refinishing them. Thank you so much. I now know how to proceed!
Turned out beautiful. Do you have any idea who the manufacturer is. I have a 4 drawer bow front that has a similar number on the back and the exact same construction but I have no idea about the manufacturer.
Thanks, I tried to find out who made this with no drawer stamps and just the code on the back. My best guess is B.F Huntley Furniture Co who are local to where i purchased this - they became part of Thomasville. So much furniture was made here in NC I am not very confident in that guess as it could be any of 100s of manufacturers.
I inherited this exact bedroom suite. Headboard and all. Never been painted, mint condition. My husband thinks its ugly and me to get rid of it. But i knew that suite could be made beautiful again... And when I showed him this video...omgoodness. He closed his mouth real quick! 😂 You have made this furniture look so elegant and sleek. Like a sharp dressed man! Lolz Just beautiful!! So just acetone and steel wool will take the lacquer finish off? Ive never refurbished furniture to this extent and will be watching this video for your guidance. Haha
That is the best reaction I could hope for on a video I hope your pieces turn out great. Any time you use a solvent on a piece best to do a small test on a hidden area to check its the right one. Assuming your was finished the same way as this one acetone and steel wool will work great. It is not out of the question that from factory this set would have had a shellac finish so if acetone does not work try denatured alcohol. Good luck!
Its an alcohol base which means is drys very quickly - I think I stained the next day but shellac dries in less than 30 minutes. When its hot it can be dry in seconds.

Beautiful 💖
RIP Dewalt 🙏
It had a hard life its had a lot of use, fortunately its replacement arrived the other day.
Looks beautiful. That purple was scary, and I love the color purple.
Done right purple can look great I like it - but this...like you say scary
It looks way better than I expected. It's beautiful 🥰
Thank you - I thought that too. I know it sneaked up on me but as soon as the mouldings went back on I impressed my self.
Those turned out so beautifully. They look very regal; a look that any man would love.
It is such a transformation regal is a great word for it. I often get surprised by the buyers in these pieces but i can see it being a guy buying it.
It was a lot of work, but it looks fantastic. You are a true artist.
thank you so much
Good gosh, Ria! Hard to believe that what you started with ended up being this beautiful set. Whoever painted it purple should be locked up.
Yes that was a criminal paint job - its hard to believe the before and after is the same set with this one.

The part about the sander made me laugh out loud. Thanks for the tutorial.
We had a ton of fun filming that, took a couple of takes to stop laughing. No idea what the neighbors thought.

Beautiful. I wasn’t sure about the red tones but it looks great with the black and gold.
Glad you like it, I dont really like using a red stain either I've had that can so long but it just works for this set so well.

Thank you Ria - great video…So many great tips and love your sense of humour with the departed sander. A big hello from Tasmania, Australia!
We have a great time filming that part and I don't think any of the neighbors saw us doing it. Glad you enjoyed the video
That was hilarious 😂. RIP Dewalt sander. You will be truly missed 😢 ❤️
It was so hard to keep a straight face through filming that. Been through so much together...

You really saved this piece!…maybe not so much for Mr D.Walt! You will be missed!
Been through a lot with that sander I do have the footage of its final moments but that might be to graphic to put on RUclips
Ask Santa for a Festool Sander 😊
haha I WILL!
Condolences on your loss…we all will miss Sander Dewalt. Gone, but not forgotten. ❤ 😂😅

❤ Question, do you ever cover the stripper with plastic so it doesn't dry out?
I use a quick acting 15 minute stripper so I dont have a problem with it drying out. I did try covering it one time and the stripper ate the plastic.
♥♥♥
Awesome Restoration!!!!
Wood shellac primer water or oil base? If oil what was the length of time between drying & staining?
Its an alcohol base which means is drys very quickly - I think I stained the next day but shellac dries in less than 30 minutes. When its hot it can be dry in seconds.
@@RIA you did an outstanding job. I so enjoyed watching you restore the furniture .
thank you glad to have you watching
