It is not often that I am thoroughly impressed by someone regarding the intellectual importance of what they are presenting on RUclips, you are that rare exception. The care that you give your projects and the knowledge that you convey to your viewers and your explanations is exceptional. I have several projects that I would like to work on. What I’ve learned from watching your videos will be invaluable. This dresser turned out so beautifully. All the extra effort and love for these historical pieces really shines through. Thank you.
Thank you so much that really means a lot to me. I am always happy to hear that people are learning from these videos things that they will able to put into their own pieces. Old pieces like this do take much more work but are so rewarding when they are done. I hope when you get into your projects and they go well and you get the same rewarding feeling I got with this piece.
I wish the pieces I will be working on were more historical antiques, however, they are mid-century modern from the 1950s. Good, solid wood pieces, that have a lot of storage (which I need), but lack the character and age that make my heart sing. (Although I do have a few of those pieces as well.) At this point I need to update the 1950s to a look that is more unique and hopefully with some added style with a twist. I may use your wallpaper technique on some pieces. Fortunately, I have a very meticulous nature, which should help when it comes to tedious work.
Thanks so much 😊 There is so much time in this project way more than I thought it would need but once I started just had to keep going. It was worth it!
It was the box on the top that drew me to this piece, I've always called it a glove box but valet box is interesting and makes sense to me too. No matter the name its a really nice feature.
There should be more "eager to save" people to rescue old furniture pieces that still have a life to lead with a TLC. I really love what you did to this dresser to bring it to a stunning and unique piece! I am so happy you chose to keep some of the beautiful wood natural so it still has some of its original charm. Done in black and gold makes it very striking and elegant. I love the piece you chose to save and you created a real piece of furniture art. I just discovered your channel and how excited I am to explore further. Thank you for sharing this piece - it shows your love for your art and you did a fabulous job and wonderful attitude. BTW your work has inspired me further to give new life to some of my parents' furnishings that no one else wanted to be bothered with. I had a family broken down butler's chest professionaly restored and couldn't be happier!
I just love how this piece ended up looking - the French country look is not a style I usually do but I did give it a chance to sell. I would have been happy not to go through all that stripping but it was well worth it.
Thank you and that's so true. The bright piece you see in the background sold twice at auction before I picked it up both times the buyer took one look at it and refused to take it. I'm working on it right now and its going to be exceptional.
So well thought out and executed beautifully. I know it was a lot of work but the birdseye maple is as you say stunning! That piece deserved the makeover and looks SO good - what a difference! Your choices were spot-on.
Thank you very much! With all the different paint colors this is probably the 5th makeover in 100ish years - I like to think this is the best its looked since it was new. Glad you enjoyed the process.
Thank you so much! I spent so long putting off this project I knew it would it was going to be bad but when the paint stripper failed my heart just sank. Glad you like the video presentation its a lot of work but enjoyable and fun to share.
This is a beautiful save. You showed a lot of determination in doing it up right. You were also great about giving out helpful information. This is absolutely a 10 out of 10+.job. Bravo!
Wow! I discovered this video by googling Bassett Furniture because I just discovered that the founders of this company are my ancestors. The 3 Bassett bros. and thier brother in law started this company. They are my 6th cousins on my mom's side. You did a spectacular job restoring this antique gem! And I approve of using the dental tools as I am a dental hygienst😍 I used to have patients that would ask me for my old scalers so they could do projects like this. Very cool. Love it! Mahalo🤙=^..^=
That is wonderful to hear this is certainly an early Bassett piece it would be nice to think your ancestors played some role in the design of it. It was made to last and I have no doubt with a bit more care it would never fell into this condition. Thats funny about the dental tools I've used them for year nice to know I am not the only one.
Beautiful job. Love the birds eye maple. The patience and dedication to save this piece is very commendable. As you say, it is not one to flip for profit but what an end result! I need to replace the wooden casters on my grandmother's birds eye maple princess vanity( a wedding present from my grandfather in 1920) so thank you for the source.
I am glad you love the result as much as me - I lost track of the hours that went into it but so worth everyone of them. Your grandmothers princess vanity sounds wonderful glad to help a great family heirloom roll again.
OK, I'v got to be honest - I was gagging at your choice of colors (at first) so I fast forwarded to the sort-of-end, and I've got to say, that thing is a home run! What a gorgeous piece!
Thank you glad you had the faith to check out the result. Its a color combo I have used a few times it really works well on some pieces especially this one.
Thank you Kim I think this one was pretty close to the landfill. The auction house was storing it round the back by the dumpsters. It was a pain to do but I am glad I got my hands on it.
I hate to see furniture get passed at auction as so often it means they are in the landfill next week. Which ends up meaning a lot of work on a project but its rewarding in the end. Hope you enjoy the channel now you have found it!
The color is Tricorn black and you can have that mixed in the paint that you prefer to use. You can also make it into chalk paint with some calcium carbonate if you prefer it as a chalk paint.
I gave them more of a deep clean, I boiled them in a water vinegar mix and then scrubbed them with some barkeepers friend. At that point I was happy with the look of them.
Bassett furniture is good stuff, I have a few pieces that I have had for 25 years and were not new we when I bought them. I have redone them once and am about to do so again so that's for a possible idea 😊
You have to admit, the bird's eye maple was your reward for all that tedious stripping. Very nice result for an originally beautiful piece. I do love MCM, but am a sucker for the old stuff, too. Nice work for sure. And, you speak my mother-tongue, southern.
It sure was a reward, I had a feeling there would be nice wood under there but that was the last thing I was expecting. I love the old stuff too so much character and design to it, glad you enjoyed the project.
Thank you! 😊 This one was a challenge it was almost to far gone. The auction house I got this from sure though so. When I picked it up it was round back next to the dumpsters.

Spectacular! Well done.
Thank you.
Oh my goodness it's absolutely gorgeous!! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!
It is gorgeous Ria!! A lot of work but it is simply beautiful!!
Thanks so much 😊 There is so much time in this project way more than I thought it would need but once I started just had to keep going. It was worth it!
Well that turned out amazing. My Grandma would call that a Gentlemen's Dresser, because of the valet box on top.
It was the box on the top that drew me to this piece, I've always called it a glove box but valet box is interesting and makes sense to me too. No matter the name its a really nice feature.
A wonderful antique dresser restored beautifully. Great work.
Thank you so much 😊
I just found your channel. I really appreciate how you explain everything. Even up to the PPE you use. Nice piece!
Thank you, glad you found the channel. I never plan to go so in depth but it happens all the time might I just embrace it now.
What a labor of love❤😊
Beautiful ❤

It looks AMAZING! I like your version of the piece better than the French looking patina it had before! Thanks so much for sharing
I just love how this piece ended up looking - the French country look is not a style I usually do but I did give it a chance to sell. I would have been happy not to go through all that stripping but it was well worth it.
You did an INCREDIBLE JOB!!!! Thank-You for taking us along on your Journey!!!!
You are so welcome! I cant believe how much this piece changed over that journey too i've re-watched this a few times my self.
I love to see someone caring to give a second life to old furniture that most people would throw away, well done ! Great attention to details.
Thanks so much!
Wow, how gorgeous it is. Oh my goodness it doesn't look like the same piece. Beautiful, beautiful details! Awesome job 👍! 😊
Its fun for me to look at how this piece started like you say does not look like the same piece. I love it
Nice color combo.
Thank you!
Fantastic. Lots of work .
Thank you - so much more work than expected but well worth it.
I’m so glad that you rescue what a lot of other flippers pass by. This is stunning!
Thank you and that's so true. The bright piece you see in the background sold twice at auction before I picked it up both times the buyer took one look at it and refused to take it. I'm working on it right now and its going to be exceptional.
Wonderful job!!! What a gorgeous piece this is!! Hard to imagine it as it was before!
Thank you it sure has came a long way for the piece that was on a loading dock round the back of the auction house.
You are a hero, not giving up on the piece😊! You’re also a good teacher! And you save furniture. Personally, I love your accent! It makes me calm!
Very inspiring!
I like your choices. I agree with you in that sometimes we have to do what the piece needs. Plus, you were creative, and it turned out great!
I never though I would spend so long on this piece but it needed to be that way. Glad you like it
Impressive Patient Reßtoration!
Thank you

Gorgeous 🌟 Thanks for saving another beauty from the landfill! Thanks for sharing 😊kim
Thank you Kim I think this one was pretty close to the landfill. The auction house was storing it round the back by the dumpsters. It was a pain to do but I am glad I got my hands on it.

WOW!
I just discovered your channel this morning, and what an impressive job!!
Thank you I'm glad you found us!
I’m new to this channel, so happy I found you. Your work is superb
Thank you so much! I wish life was not to busy right now I have so many more projects to share.
Great job of bringing this piece back.
Fulcrum! Heat gun? Might help the decoration
This piece the decorations were held on with just nails but if there was glue heat gun would have really helped.
Just found your channel and subscribed, watching from Canada....great looking dresser....so much work....Take care...
I hate to see furniture get passed at auction as so often it means they are in the landfill next week. Which ends up meaning a lot of work on a project but its rewarding in the end. Hope you enjoy the channel now you have found it!
Amazing transformation!!! Looks wonderful, nicely done, excellent work as always from you.
Great video, I look forward to your next one!
Thank you so much 🤗 Next 3 projects are all filmed so it should not be to long. Nice mix of projects too.
Beautiful. I just found your channel. I'll be binge watching your videos. 😊 What was the color that you chose for the paint?
The color is Tricorn black and you can have that mixed in the paint that you prefer to use.
You can also make it into chalk paint with some calcium carbonate if you prefer it as a chalk paint.
Did you polish the brass hardware handles? Lovely job!
I gave them more of a deep clean, I boiled them in a water vinegar mix and then scrubbed them with some barkeepers friend. At that point I was happy with the look of them.
I really enjoyed your commentary and your view on how you buy pieces and why. New sub!
Thank you and welcome to the channel!
I love it! Lots of hard word!
Bassett furniture is good stuff, I have a few pieces that I have had for 25 years and were not new we when I bought them. I have redone them once and am about to do so again so that's for a possible idea 😊
There are a few names I always look for at auctions Bassett is one of them. Glad to add to your collections of ideas for when you change yours again.
Great job.
Stunning!
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful old chest of drawers. You do good work.

Wow!
You will be rewarded in furniture heaven for all the pieces you rescue, and breathe life back into!
Beautiful, beautiful job! 😍
Thank you! 😊 This one was a challenge it was almost to far gone. The auction house I got this from sure though so. When I picked it up it was round back next to the dumpsters.
