Was fortunate to become friends with Glenn during the mid to late 80's. Have many fond memories of having lunch at my club with him and introducing him to many bands he was not familiar with. Just a sweet and lovely guy.
    RIP my friend.

I met Glenn Frey at Pebble Beach Golf Course back in 1997 and he signed my Laserdisc cover of Eagles “Hell Freezes Over” I had if professionally framed and it remains one of my favorite pieces of Rock n Roll memorabilia. Glenn was a complete gentleman and could not have been any nicer when I visited with him. RIP GF 🙏

Yes! I loved the information about them at the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum in downtown Nashville, TN. I visited for the 1st time, last Thanksgiving. The California CountryRock connection by way of the Eagles, Poco, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds, International Submarine Band, Flying Burrito Brothers, Jackson Browne, CSNY; and I may have missed a few. Dwight Yoakam (love him too), was on the film, singing their praises.

Yes, he was very handsome but J. D. Souther wasn’t any slouch in the looks department either, as well as a musician. Believe he dated Linda Ronstadt getting to her first, as Glenn wanted to date her, too. Ahhh the blissful heady days of youth and wonderful music from the enlightened ones. Geniuses.

I LOVE Jackson Browne, too! 😻 When he played Tulsa a few years ago, he personally named every TTown “Tulsa Sound” musicians he met in Los Angeles, CA. - Leon Russell & J. J. Cale etc. And a pair of lady twins who entertained him in Tulsa many years ago, he cheekily joked haha! His long dark hair was sooo gorgeous and silky - it was like another member of the band.

Booo!...the Eagles simply blended some country influenced music, with mainstream "rock" riffing. Diluted music, for a generation looking for a change in sound. The result was mediocre music, for the mediocre tastes of a 1970s generation. Terrible music, really! And, how did Frey avoid the Draft?

Great review of the band and Frey. I followed the group through my teenage years, writing poetry and songs some of which still haven’t been finished, inspired by various songs of both Glenn and the band. I was amazed at Glenn’s solo career and music, and, in this downhill run, I still cannot help but put on the music of all. No doubt Glenn was a great singer and song writer. Unfortunately, many believe his excessive drug and alcohol abuse led to his early demise. Vince Gill was chosen by Don Henley to replace Glenn and he couldn't have made a better selection. He's a great singer, song writer, guitarist, and he doesn't have ego issues. How good is he? He has 22 Grammys, 17 CMT awards, Artist of the year several times, and is in at least two Halls of Fame. The grand Ole Opry just inducted him.

Thanks to the youtube recommendations, I have recently watched several "band members who hate each other" reports. Looks like it's always the same problems...Who is the best songwriter? Who is the best singer? Who is best-looking? Who is being paid more than another? Whose songs make it onto the album? The list goes on and on. Has there ever been a band where the members liked each other on a consistent basis? I am sorry to be so negative here...

Having flown to Dallas at the last minute to photograph “Eagles”. Particularly Joe. I had a great view in the wings Glen Frey had a bandage on his left wrist and periodically shaking his hand in the wings and mouthing the word “OUCH” to someone more at the center of the stage. After returning home I realized Eagles were going to play in Arizona BUT that Glen Frey had died. OMG.

I have always liked the Eagles, but in the 1970s I always viewed them as a country band, who somehow got lucky enough to have their songs played on rock-n-roll stations. It was Felder that brought gave them the rock sound that they needed. I always thought that had it not been for Felder, "The Eagles" would have ended up in the dollar bin at K-Mart, because they sound was good, but not great by the late 1970s. Times were changing, and they needed to change.

The Eagles was Glenn Frey's band. He thought up the name and approached the other guys about joining his band ( 60 minutes Australia back in the early 2010's asked Henley who's band is the Eagles and he said " It's Glenn's band " I know each member had a share in Eagles limited supposedly making them all equal, but we see how well that worked out for Felder around 1999-2000 ) Enter Joe for Hotel California, so now you've got another great rock singer / guitar God + The phenomenal songs sung by Henley, 5 if you count Victim of Love (reprise) 1 with Joe. 1 with Randy and Just 1 with Glenn ( New kid in town ) Exit Randy, enter Tim ( another amazing singer ) But just 2 founding members that are in control, Hotel California is a money printing press for the record company, and those record execs would sell their souls to catch lightning in a bottle twice.. So do think they are pushing for more songs sung by Frey or Henley? Glenn felt like he was losing his band to Henley but needed a scapegoat he could unload all his frustrations and blame on.. Rather than being honest at the risk of sounding like a pussy and saying " I'm afraid that I am losing control of the band I created, so I'm just going to take my toys and go home " Enter Don Felder.. Glenn Knew that he couldn't go off on Henley like he wanted to, so I guess one Don is as good as the next... I love the Eagles and all of it's members ( past and present ) But it is what it is, nobody's perfect and we're all human!

@@suekelley4466 that is very true but Glenn Frey knew that he wanted to form the Eagles and he had already talked to Don Henley Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner about it before they informed Linda Ronstadt of their plan. Felder is 1/3 owner of The Eagles, legally. He continues to make money while Frey is worm food. Henley and Frey were egotistical, greedy, and insecure. Hotel California was Felder’s creation and they couldn’t stand that his creation was their number one song. Everybody else to a member attests to Felder’s decency and fairness in life. Henley and Frey, on the other hand, just let greed get the better of them and wouldn’t consent to the ‘Hell Freezes Over’ tour being a fair share of profit, because they knew they would make a fortune if they could cut Felder out. Money from the tour and jealousy over Felder’s talent got the better of them and showed the world who they were.

@HoboJoe1416 I agree with you 100% . I've read Heaven and Hell my life in the Eagles. But Felder did forfeit his 1/3 share in the lawsuit settlement for a lump sum buyout from Eagles Limited. I believe that is why on Hotel California, the 2013 remaster he's listed last in the song writing credits.. Unlike the original, where he is listed first in the song writing credits

Yes he was , his disgruntled attitude towards playing a benefit concert was exactly the reason why that fight started, everyone was tired of Felders do nothing but expect the equal share outlook, besides the music for Hotel California and a forgettable song Visions, he contributed nothing else towards songwriting for the band, he was a glorified session musician and Felder knows he’d be nothing without Glenn Frey

@@Trial212 Of course Frey saw something in Felder when he first joined, he is a good guitarist and was a friend of Bernie’s. But after years of coasting and not offering much else creative in terms to song writing to the group and constantly being a malcontent the group had enough! Notice Joe and Tim never came to Felder’s defense and Bernie even came back to play with the Eagles on a few dates a few years ago.
