Jus my 2 bits guys, but I think Hotel California would have been another song, maybe even sold & made popular by another artist. But it is too unforgettable to just disappear. Many great songs by great artists, started as mere warm up exercises. Like Dust in the Wind, KANSAS. Know any legendary others ? EVH ? Slash ? Bernie ostensibly didn't feel bitter nor pushed out by his friend Don. He always wanted to play different music, not Rock. A different Eagle wanted to be a "rock star" and stepped on his own brothers, just to try to make himself look bigger. Since the day Don Felder was pushed out, him and his cousin big shot, ended the "Eagles" after The Long Run & turned a legendary band into an echo tribute, for 40+ years now. Vince Gill & Joe Walsh are the unusual & true glue that holds the band together. Even Deacon didn't want to stick around the Toxicity of DH, who has now been caught lip syncing his own old studio tracks. "Heaven & Hell" indeed.

Felder and his band put on a show second to none. They played as if they were in a stadium of 80,000 fans. After the show, Don stayed on stage and signed autographs and allowed fans to have their photographs taken with him. He signed my show ticket. Don Felder is a class act. My mother and Don's mother both moved into the North Florida Retirement Village in Gainesville, FL at just about the same time. They became very good friends up until Don's mom passed away. I used to eat lunch with Doris and my mother and Doris would tell about Don and how he grew up in Gainesville, learned to play the guitar and became famous when he was with the Eagles. Don had given his mother, Doris, lots of his gold albums and she cherished them. When Don made trips to Paris, he would always bring back perfumes for his mother.
On a least two occasions, my mother got to have lunch with Don because he was at the retirement village to visit his mother.
I am 74 and loved, still love, the Eagles' music. Finding out from his mother and my mother what a great son he was just made me feel so good about him. I wish I had been there to have lunch with Don, his mom and my mom but I was an elementary school teacher and had zero time for such thrills.😁

Just think about each time a member of the Eagles departed. Every one clashed with none other than Glen Frye. Bernie's departure was probably spurred on by the constant bickering with Frye. Randy Meissner's leaving came when Frye wanted Randy to encore with laryngitis. I'll always believe Frye was just plain jealous of Don Felder. I realize Joe had to look out for himself, but I wish he had said something, anything, to help cool Frye's jets, if that was even possible. When the members get together today to perform a concert, things seem to go very smoothly. Gee, isn't that great ? ?

It was Henley and Frey who tried to create a false narrative about Felder being selfish and greedy. It was Henley and Frey that wouldn't perform or re group unless they got considerable more money than the other members. I lost a lot of respect for Don and Glenn for kicking Felder out of the band. He simply wanted to be included in all phases of the band but Henley and Frey wanted to be in sole control of the band. Felder later was able to sue The Eagles to the tune of around 50 million dollars, even though it was never publicized or disclosed the exact amount.

As in any other business, rock bands follow the golden rule: the ones with the gold make the rules. And particularly w rock bands, huge egos abound, even the guys wearing white hats have huge egos craving the limelight. It’s human nature. Really it’s a miracle the Eagles stayed together at all. If you think Felder wasn’t an egomaniac you’re wrong. Even the good guys have huge egos. There were ego conflicts that made the continuation with Felder and Frey together in one band untenable. Naturally, Frey would win that conflict, for Gods sake he was co-founder and co-CEO. Do you think he would get run off instead of Felder? Of course not. Happens everyday in business, popular guy gets terminated for taking too much attention away from the head honchos. Dog eat dog.

Don Felder is A Great Guitarist and Musician ,his versatility ,his natural touch on Guitar and knowledge of music theory is what put the icing on the cake for The Eagles .His guitar parts on them Records are Iconic in every sense of the word , and everything he played was completely musical and complementary to whatever tracks he played on , he also really new how to dial in a great Sound and Tone .. As a player myself he is someone (along with Joe Walsh) that always got my ears they had that guitar telepathy chemistry that sounds so great when it’s done right and they we’re Bang on the money together.. The Eagles could hire anyone after he went and Steuart Smith who replaced Don in The Eagles is a very capable player ,but they we’re never quite the same in my book without Don Felder he just had that magic as a player that you just can’t quite put your finger on let alone explain, He just had it in a similar kind of way that Mick Cambell from The Heartbreakers has (Another great Player) these kind of players are the real song server’s and that’s what makes music timeless and GREAT……❤️⭐️🌞👍🏻

Saw Don Felder in a small theatre last year. Put on a GREAT show. Gave it his all, even though we are a rural small town. Even took time for pics for those that wanted them. Fantastic artist! Shame on the GREEEDY "Eagles" for treating Don like they did.

    My take:
1 - With no apologies to Allen Collins and Gary Rossington, Felder / Walsh at the end of Hotel California is the greatest duo guitar solo in the history of rock n roll.
2 - Felder's slide guitar in Good Day in Hell is second to none.
3 - If the Rock N Roll HOF ever has a jackoff wing Glen Frey and Don Henley should be in the initial class for their treatment of Felder and Meisner.

Felder kicked the Eagles up a big notch in music quality and popularity, and the addition of Joe eased them over to top. You could see their connection and hear their synergy when the two guitarists played.

Video is a great supplement to the fantastic Eagles documentary, which omits Felder's background. So blessed to have been saved from polio by the nascent vaccine.
Henley, Frey were it's driving creative force, yet both agreed to equal shares for all Eagles members. Foolish to take sides in conflict between band members. Only those with intimate first-hand knowledge can begin to understand the root issues. The political event seemed the climax of tension built over quite a while. Give Felder a lot of credit for not quitting, sticking up for himself, making the others fire him.
Eagles were a dynamo and the dynamic that produced numerous hit songs was ultimately the dynamic that tore them apart. Maybe that's not such a bad thing.
