I agree. I understand how Frey and Henley were the terrific song writers but Felder, Walsh and their fabulous Bass players spiced the songs up and made them great!
I think guitarists (me for one, and you too I think) know how talented Don is. The twin attack of him and Joe (my favorite guitarist and the reason I began playing in 1980) was pure magic. They really bring out the best of each other.
I agree 100% man. I never liked Frey in the first place, and the crap they put Felder thru was absurd. Try that shit with Joe Walsh and he would just laugh at you and walk without looking back.

I always thought it was a jealousy thing, Frey & Henley being jealous of Don’s talent on the guitar, slide guitar & mandolin, & writing their greatest song! IMHO 🇺🇸🙏🇮🇪
As in any other business, rock bands follow the golden rule: the ones with the gold make the rules. And particularly w rock bands, huge egos abound, even the guys wearing white hats have huge egos craving the limelight. It’s human nature. Really it’s a miracle the Eagles stayed together at all. If you think Felder wasn’t an egomaniac you’re wrong. Even the good guys have huge egos. There were ego conflicts that made the continuation with Felder and Frey together in one band untenable. Naturally, Frey would win that conflict, for Gods sake he was co-founder and co-CEO. Do you think he would get run off instead of Felder? Of course not. Happens everyday in business, popular guy gets terminated for taking too much attention away from the head honchos. Dog eat dog.
Just think about each time a member of the Eagles departed. Every one clashed with none other than Glen Frye. Bernie's departure was probably spurred on by the constant bickering with Frye. Randy Meissner's leaving came when Frye wanted Randy to encore with laryngitis. I'll always believe Frye was just plain jealous of Don Felder. I realize Joe had to look out for himself, but I wish he had said something, anything, to help cool Frye's jets, if that was even possible. When the members get together today to perform a concert, things seem to go very smoothly. Gee, isn't that great ? ?
Theres a live version of Hotel Cali with Don and Joe dueling it out with an incredible performance. No two guitarists so perfectly complemented each other as these two did.
They were awesome when I saw them, at that time I didn't know Felder, but seeing him run the show guitar wise that night was amazing and all those licks from the records that I thought Joe was doing, well I got took to school on who's doing what that night. Just an amazing talent, take nothing from Joe, together they're a force.
So true . Loved the Eagles but Henley and Frey were insufferable and self-righteous . Henley himself would be wearing orange (As would most of the 70's rockers) for having two underage drugged up girls in his house back then .
I have a nephew who worked with Henley on a solo project as his sound engineer. I asked him what kind of person was he. Was he good to work with, was he fun to work with. And I'm quoting my nephew who answered " He's the most miserable man I've ever worked with".
Absolutely my friend. I saw the eagles in Australia (History of the Eagles, Frey's last performance in Australia) and it was ridiculous that when they did " take it to the limit", not one mention of Randy. They could of had vision on the big screen of him and synced it with their performance. No. Wasn't going to happen with the narcissists Frey and Henley. It was Randy's song for crying out loud.!! Same with Hotel California. To them, Don and Randy didn't exist.
It's so sad that Frye was such an asswipe to Felder. The story goes that he was a tyrant along with Henley to a lesser extent while running the band. I can't help but think there was a bit of envy in that Frye couldn't hold a candle to Felder's ability.
Great Doc. I just saw Don a week ago in Niagara falls Ont. he was incredible "rocked leather pants at age 72" his voice blew me away, I'm no fool being a professional musician myself there was a little digital help (not sure what they were using on his voice but it doesn't fix everything) he still sounded great, his band was first class all top notch players ..his guitar playing ..well it's almost TOO good, so polished. He came up in a time when that was required to land a gig. so glad I got to see this Legend perform, he has quite a legacy ...May he keep on playing the Eagles were so foolish to let this man slip away
Yeah, but he got his just compensation from the lawsuit...Prob almost killed Frey having to write a check with that many zero's... Now, Felder can retire comfortably, and play with who he wants...
The Eagles would not be as big as they are without Don Felder. He had such a unique sound and feel that was perfect for their sound. Love Don and Bernie
My Favorite Hotel California video is the one they made in 1977, all of that song is GREAT, but my favorite part is the last almost 5 minutes of the song with Don & Joe, They look like they're having fun...and the sound of those 2 together is just Heart Pounding GREAT
My take: 1 - With no apologies to Allen Collins and Gary Rossington, Felder / Walsh at the end of Hotel California is the greatest duo guitar solo in the history of rock n roll. 2 - Felder's slide guitar in Good Day in Hell is second to none. 3 - If the Rock N Roll HOF ever has a jackoff wing Glen Frey and Don Henley should be in the initial class for their treatment of Felder and Meisner.
I doubt many would agree that Don was better than Duane Allman on guitar and/or slide guitar, or that any other duo guitar solos could compare with Duane Allman and Dickie Betts.
@@maximus3160 You guys are some serious Eagle fans, as am I. But I submit that awarding best guitarist is too subjective -just opinions. If you haven’t already, Check out “in memory of Elizabeth reed” on the Allman Bros. ‘Live at the Filmore East’, as well as other song on that album which I think is the best live album ever.
Well they could join the guy who wouldn't play with his bass player and drummer on stage, and who thought it was all about him. Churlish petulance and self pitying BS. That was truly a low RHOF act and not even Glenn and Don H went there. Felder is gold however.
I just saw him on the 21st in Lake Tahoe and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I’m 63 and have been to probably 100 concerts over the years starting in 74 in Reno seeing Three dog night and the Guess Who.
Don Felder is A Great Guitarist and Musician ,his versatility ,his natural touch on Guitar and knowledge of music theory is what put the icing on the cake for The Eagles .His guitar parts on them Records are Iconic in every sense of the word , and everything he played was completely musical and complementary to whatever tracks he played on , he also really new how to dial in a great Sound and Tone .. As a player myself he is someone (along with Joe Walsh) that always got my ears they had that guitar telepathy chemistry that sounds so great when it’s done right and they we’re Bang on the money together.. The Eagles could hire anyone after he went and Steuart Smith who replaced Don in The Eagles is a very capable player ,but they we’re never quite the same in my book without Don Felder he just had that magic as a player that you just can’t quite put your finger on let alone explain, He just had it in a similar kind of way that Mick Cambell from The Heartbreakers has (Another great Player) these kind of players are the real song server’s and that’s what makes music timeless and GREAT……❤️⭐️🌞👍🏻
Nice little doc! I am a life-long Eagles fan, and am still saddened about the departure of Don and Randy. I certainly like Timothy, but really miss seeing Don and Randy in the mix.
I'd just graduated high school in '78, when I caught Don & the Eagles show...their harmonies & guitar interplay were something to behold, especially in a live setting!
Thank you for sharing this story. Don Felder's playing is magical, inspiring, creative, and mesmerizing. He was the ink that put the Eagles in the map.
Another great mini-doc. I don't know how I missed it when you released it a few months back. My admiration for Felder only continues to grow. He should be awarded the Medal of Freedom just for putting up with Frey as long as he did.
Thanks Mo. Glad you enjoyed it! Sometimes youtube doesn't always notify my subscribers. Best to check the homepage, click on videos and scroll through them see if you find anything you might enjoy.
Incredible video thank you! So many memories come up for all of us from this generation! Music was never better, humans were never happier or healthier, relationships could be negotiated easier, and travel provided adventures and the feeling of freedom like no other time imaginable. Those of us that survived these times and are still emotionally and physically healthy, can now hopefully take the wisdom learned from past mistakes, and enjoy each day as the adventure it is. That has certainly been my plan!
This is well done. Interesting and accurate. I caught Don Felder s show in Boston. Wilbur Theater. The single best sounding show I've ever caught and I've caught just about all. He sang and referred to his old band as "The Seagulls". No animosity. Did all the killer cuts of the Eagles with no b#llsh#t. Good job here!
I've seen Don Felder a number of times with his new group. All of them are pretty accomplished musicians. They are pretty terrific. I read his book and did not find it particularly well written but it was informative for sure. How any of those guys still have a brain is truly amazing.
Having learned fully the solo on Hotel California (all of them) and being a massive Joe Walsh fan…Felders riffs and style are on another level, you only realise this when you play both parts accurately…you gotta get into their skin.
Like to feed with you... Saying that you managed to configure the entire scale, I writer, and mostly rythym guitar, but boy ,my desire to play the classical proficiency , after all classical gas, is just an upbeat version of old style, hillbilly free flow style of ""gallows pole, & the likes of the, ..... Corresponding relationship with the song, hotel California, with the range of Jimmy Page in Since I've been loving you.... The point from my love of harmonica since '99 , & burnt through 3 chromatics.... If any one person can have such a concept of the scales....I'm still just a hippy with short hair.... ❤️
Thanks for the video. I'd love to go see Don Felder play & have a chance to meet him. I loved the Eagles coming up as a young man. To me Don Felder will always be a huge part of the Eagles.
Fantastic video which I have watched numerous times! ❤ Don Felder is a hero of Rock and Roll, a true artist and one of the best guitar virtuouses ever... He went to high school and played with Steven Stills. He taught Tom Petty how to play guitar 🎸 Need I say more!
Saw Don Felder in a small theatre last year. Put on a GREAT show. Gave it his all, even though we are a rural small town. Even took time for pics for those that wanted them. Fantastic artist! Shame on the GREEEDY "Eagles" for treating Don like they did.
…one of the best commentaries i’ve EVER had the pleasure of listening to in my entire Life. What great talent displayed here and wonderfully perceptive work done in trubute…⁉️ EXCELLENT ⁉️⁉️👊🔥🥂
Thank you for this. It's nice to see Felder was "given a voice" since Frey forced him out and had the clout to push his take of things through the media slandering Don in every way.
Wow sir, you did a bang up job making this video. What a time to be a kid. The Eagles ruled the world. Felder made Henley and Frey pay. I was very happy when I heard that happened. Subbed you for sure.
Don learned from one of the best Guitar players, Duane Allan. In an old interview he said he would go see Duane and he's sitting on the floor playing slide Guitar
Video is a great supplement to the fantastic Eagles documentary, which omits Felder's background. So blessed to have been saved from polio by the nascent vaccine. Henley, Frey were it's driving creative force, yet both agreed to equal shares for all Eagles members. Foolish to take sides in conflict between band members. Only those with intimate first-hand knowledge can begin to understand the root issues. The political event seemed the climax of tension built over quite a while. Give Felder a lot of credit for not quitting, sticking up for himself, making the others fire him. Eagles were a dynamo and the dynamic that produced numerous hit songs was ultimately the dynamic that tore them apart. Maybe that's not such a bad thing.
Great mini doc on Don Felder. So well done. It covers a whole lot of history. The narration is really good too. Sadly, I never got to see him live with the Eagles but did see him put on a show in London a few years ago. A class act and awesome guitarist. Well worth seeing if ever in your area.
The eagles were one of my all-time favorite bands never got to see them live wished I could’ve. The music in the 70s was so great. The guitar work was beautiful I wanted to learn how to play guitar all of these bands inspired me the Beatles were long gone but they still inspired me. I think George Harrison was one of the greatest guitars that ever lived so was Felder so it was Walch and so was John Fogarty from Creedence Clearwater revival. These guys were my inspiration to play guitar, I felt really bad when Glenn past stay away I thought the Eagles would never be the same again and I don’t think they will be Glenn Frey loved by many and missed by millions may he rest in peace I try to learn as much as I can about my favorite musicians I appreciate this video. Thanks so much. Have a great day.🎸😎😄🎸🎼🎶🎵💖
There a "millenium?" Documentary that covers the Eagles complete history with interviews from most of band members. I like it but it does show how Henley and Frey in all of their egomaniacal selves 😊were problematic and it tiptoes around hotel California true story. It was about cocaine and their abuse of over the 70s.
Which other band members got the shaft???????? Randy Meisner quit the band he wasn’t fired. Bernie Leadon left to pursue other avenues he wasn’t fired. Glenn Frey passed away he wasn’t fired. So who other than Felder got the shaft? At the R&R induction Glenn and Don who were the Eagles brought the whole band back.
As a man who has played in 8 different bands I can tell you now it is very difficult to find 4 Or 5 musicians and not have them try to kill each other. Musicians are a different breed
I was driving and had to pull over when the Hell Freezes Hotel CA version came on the radio. The intro was too familiar but when the song kicked in my spine shivered and I started effing crying man! I can not imagine what it must have been like to see it at their first reunion show. Capo the 7th & B-minor that guitar man! Awesome!!!
Absolutely great job on this. I guess I'm a Felder fanatic. I remember sitting in my parents Chevy van listening to the greatest hits on 8 track. Somewhere around 1979. The guitar work changed my life. I have Don's audiobook. It's a great listen. Thanks for making this, and good job
Thank you for a great VLOG. The stories been told many times, however learned some new details from you. My brother played guitar for Randy post Engles. It was certainly more than money for Randy.
You're welcome! Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it. I have been working on a video for Randy today believe it or not...and should have it out in a few more days here.
You Sir did a nice job of piecing this together. Business is full of Demons and Angels, and to cast your dead set vote on who is which can drag you away from enjoying the joy that music brings. I’m glad I watched all 21 mins. Plus as there is no Heartache tonight just a Peaceful easy feeling. Bravo 👏
The Lord has a way of guiding each of our lives and leading us where we belong. Don Felder "belonged" in the Eagles, and still does. It's too bad Henley and Felder couldn't see what was obvious. Selfishness, Greed, and Pride are just a few of the ways he can lead us astray and take us away, or cause others to use these powers to keep us from our divine talents. It truly saddens me that Frey and Felder let their pride take away one of the most talented rock guitarists in the world from the best rock/country-rock bands ever. How many great songs have we missed out on because of greed and pride couldn't be over-come. It's too bad that the pride refuses to be left behind for one great last conference to be arranged that Henley would shake hands and embrace an old friend for the fan's sake. They deserve it and so does Felder. How great to see and hear Felder and Walsh make magic once or twice more.
Man, this is an awesome video! The Eagles came out when I was a teenager and I was in the Army when they were at their height. Thanks for sharing this story with all of us!!
I saw Don a few years ago Wonderful show, great conversations and Don’s voice was up to par - not Henley level but nice. I really appreciate his calm demeanor, respect his going his own way and not doing the everything for the money Eagles touring machine. Classy guy. HIs playing was one of the key unsung parts of Eagles. He Looks great, acts fresh and enthused - all the better for him Loved your appreciation video and learned a lot on his past , thanks Bravo
The Eagles are my all time favorite band just barely ahead of The Allman Brothers.....Felders book is fantastic as his his playing .....IMHO even though "Hotel California" is great their masterpiece album is "Desperado " . .....Great job on another great doc !
Thank you, thank you and thank you for this video. It clarifies tons of things for me. I Felder's fan and planning on attending a concert with Don as soon as it becomes available in Florida.
They never sounded the same without Felder. Walsh and him together just made magic happen when they played together.
They sounded like their own tribute band after Felder was fired from the Eagles. Felder was the icing on the cake.

There is a thin line between cocky and obnoxious. Glenn and Henley both epitomized obnoxious.

I still like Don Felder. You can tell he really enjoys what he does. He was a part of an important time in the history of The Eagles.
Oh, any band worth its salt today would love to have Joe and Don battling it out on stage.
or together@@garyaddcox8274
Theres a live version of Hotel Cali with Don and Joe dueling it out with an incredible performance. No two guitarists so perfectly complemented each other as these two did.
You're right..They did work well together.
It’s epic hey omg
Check out the live version of TURN TO STONE. That one hits the mark as well.😉
They were awesome when I saw them, at that time I didn't know Felder, but seeing him run the show guitar wise that night was amazing and all those licks from the records that I thought Joe was doing, well I got took to school on who's doing what that night. Just an amazing talent, take nothing from Joe, together they're a force.
You must have missed Duane Allman and Eric Clapton dueling guitars
Don Felder was and is, on top of everything else, a class guy…
Something that cannot be said of Glen and the other Don.
So true . Loved the Eagles but Henley and Frey were insufferable and self-righteous . Henley himself would be wearing orange (As would most of the 70's rockers) for having two underage drugged up girls in his house back then .
@@johnmac333 AKA "Dirty Laundry" came out of it.
Glen and Henley a couple of asses. Felder brought electricity to the Eagles and then Joe. In my opinion Felder is s and Eagle
I have a nephew who worked with Henley on a solo project as his sound engineer. I asked him what kind of person was he. Was he good to work with, was he fun to work with. And I'm quoting my nephew who answered " He's the most miserable man I've ever worked with".
@@davidsolomon7966 Well, he hasn't worked with me yet!
Don,and Randy,my favorite Eagles.
Agree 💯%
Absolutely my friend. I saw the eagles in Australia (History of the Eagles, Frey's last performance in Australia) and it was ridiculous that when they did " take it to the limit", not one mention of Randy. They could of had vision on the big screen of him and synced it with their performance. No. Wasn't going to happen with the narcissists Frey and Henley. It was Randy's song for crying out loud.!!
Same with Hotel California. To them, Don and Randy didn't exist.
Mine too! Don & Randy Live on tour Landover Maryland 1977 is great was just on youtube
Don and Randy were by far the most talented in the group
Totally agree! Randy and Don were the best of the Eagles! I am so sorry I never saw them in person!
One of my favorite guitarist, he’s so incredibly talented and underrated . I think he’s brilliant! ❤🎸❤
So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song. How are you?
I love the Eagles in every stage, but after Felder was gone they basically just became a touring act. Great video man!
Thanks!
The Long Road...... is pretty good. But perhaps it lacks that extra spark to make it brilliant.
Some good songs, but the album has a certain bitterness to ot. It's like the days of One of These Nights, or Desperado, were long gone.
Don is one of the best guitarists (rock/blues) and a great guy and performer and without him it's no Eagles anymore.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
It's so sad that Frye was such an asswipe to Felder. The story goes that he was a tyrant along with Henley to a lesser extent while running the band. I can't help but think there was a bit of envy in that Frye couldn't hold a candle to Felder's ability.
@@garyaddcox8274 yes these both captains focked up their own band, so after Felder and Meisner it was no Eagles anymore
Agreed. The Eagles’ flatbed Ford has never been the same since the blowout with Glenn.
Don is a guitar master period
For Frye and Henley to treat Din Felder like hired help instead of a full fledged band member is a disgrace
Don Felder is a wonderful guitarist, musician and songwriter.
His solos are so melodic and memorable
My Favorite Hotel California video is the one they made in 1977, all of that song is GREAT, but my favorite part is the last almost 5 minutes of the song with Don & Joe, They look like they're having fun...and the sound of those 2 together is just Heart Pounding GREAT
Don was my favorite guitar player of all time it just came so easy to him.
My take:
1 - With no apologies to Allen Collins and Gary Rossington, Felder / Walsh at the end of Hotel California is the greatest duo guitar solo in the history of rock n roll.
2 - Felder's slide guitar in Good Day in Hell is second to none.
3 - If the Rock N Roll HOF ever has a jackoff wing Glen Frey and Don Henley should be in the initial class for their treatment of Felder and Meisner.
I think that Frey and Henley both resented Randy because he was really the sex symbol of the band and so much better looking than them.
I doubt many would agree that Don was better than Duane Allman on guitar and/or slide guitar, or that any other duo guitar solos could compare with Duane Allman and Dickie Betts.
@@Glehost I'm with
@Ed-zn4x on this one
Don laid down some of the most identifiable slide parts, this side of Duane Allman. I loved Don Felder's autobiography.
I just saw him on the 21st in Lake Tahoe and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I’m 63 and have been to probably 100 concerts over the years starting in 74 in Reno seeing Three dog night and the Guess Who.
missed the Eagles in Tahoe by a week before Glenn died
I have always loved the smile on his face when he plays his fantastic solos:)
Don Felder is so handsome. I love him ! Hugs from Chile.
I'd just graduated high school in '78, when I caught Don & the Eagles show...their harmonies & guitar interplay were something to behold, especially in a live setting!
When they played at Northlands in Edmonton? My parents went to that show...

The singer/songwriter David Blue, who hired Felder to play his songs live, wrote "Outlaw Man", which the Eagles included on their "Desperado" album.
Thank you for sharing this story. Don Felder's playing is magical, inspiring, creative, and mesmerizing. He was the ink that put the Eagles in the map.
without Don “Fingers” Felder, there is no Hotel California.
Fingers was a great underrated guitar player.

No eddie van halen no van halen

So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song. How are you?
Another great mini-doc. I don't know how I missed it when you released it a few months back.
My admiration for Felder only continues to grow. He should be awarded the Medal of Freedom just for putting up with Frey as long as he did.
Thanks Mo. Glad you enjoyed it! Sometimes youtube doesn't always notify my subscribers. Best to check the homepage, click on videos and scroll through them see if you find anything you might enjoy.
I really liked Bernie and what he brought to the original band. Always thought he was an underrated player and skilled musician.
You're very welcome. Thank you for watching and comment/ I appreciate it.
Saw Hell Freezes Over in Denver Mile High stadium, best concert I've ever seen. Really came out of there amazed with Don Felder, what a musician!
Rumor was his settlement was 50m up front plus a % of all future earnings.....the gift that keeps on giving!
Thanks Dan appreciate it. Got a few more Eagle members on the channel. Hope you check them out too. Thanks for watching.
Don Felder could really jam!
Yes he could!
I've seen Don Felder a number of times with his new group. All of them are pretty accomplished musicians. They are pretty terrific. I read his book and did not find it particularly well written but it was informative for sure. How any of those guys still have a brain is truly amazing.
My Parents bought our Hammond B3 while Don worked at the music store . So much more to say about back then.

All versions of this band are equally brilliant
Great summation. Just read Felder's great book. Can't stop thinking about it.

Thanks for the video. I'd love to go see Don Felder play & have a chance to meet him. I loved the Eagles coming up as a young man. To me Don Felder will always be a huge part of the Eagles.
As a guitar player I can say, Don Felder has excellent technique on that geetar .
Just seen him and his band in Corbin Ky… one of the best shows I’ve ever seen… being a huge Eagles fan anyway, he and band is still awesome …
Fantastic video which I have watched numerous times! ❤
Don Felder is a hero of Rock and Roll, a true artist and one of the best guitar virtuouses ever... He went to high school and played with Steven Stills. He taught Tom Petty how to play guitar 🎸 Need I say more!
Thanks Dr Craig. Glad you enjoyed it!!
I saw him in Atlantic City. Front row center. The guy looks awesome. Sang great and made guitar playing look like child’s play.
He looked quite good, healthy, in the Eagles documentary on Showtime, which was nice to see.
Saw Don Felder in a small theatre last year. Put on a GREAT show. Gave it his all, even though we are a rural small town. Even took time for pics for those that wanted them. Fantastic artist! Shame on the GREEEDY "Eagles" for treating Don like they did.

So who is your favorite member/s of The Eagles? Mine has to be Felder and Walsh...with Randy Meisner right behind them.
Felder and Meisner
Don Henley,......
Felder and Meisner.
@@fivestring65ifyYup!!
My favorite line up was Frey, Henley, Felder, Walsh and Schmitt. Love Meisner too though.
Thank you for this. It's nice to see Felder was "given a voice" since Frey forced him out and had the clout to push his take of things through the media slandering Don in every way.
You're welcome.
My husband and I turned our daughters onto THE Eagles back in the 90’s. We still listen to them today and sing along.
Wow sir, you did a bang up job making this video. What a time to be a kid. The Eagles ruled the world. Felder made Henley and Frey pay. I was very happy when I heard that happened. Subbed you for sure.
Thanks. I appreciate it!!
I like Mr Felder. His book is a excellent read. Thanks for posting.

Thank you so much for this mini doc. Will always love Don Felder

Don learned from one of the best Guitar players, Duane Allan. In an old interview he said he would go see Duane and he's sitting on the floor playing slide Guitar
K
The music that Duane created has made him immortal, it will be appreciated for eternity. What a great man, great life. 😊
Thank you! Appreciate the kind words.
Was at the Corbin Ky concert… was great to hear the old songs… huge eagles fan… him and his band were just awesome!
Though he didn't sing any of the Eagles hits, Don was always one of my favorite Eagles. I love watching him play on the Hell Freezes Over video.
Don Felder is one of the best. I was so fortunate to grow old with having the best musical talents at my finger tip.
His book is a must read
This was a very nice video about Don Felder and I always knew both he and other band members got the shaft
@@imtheman4805 I think he means financially. You can look it up.

He's such a genuinely nice guy too.
I caught them on the long run tour and they were excellent, outstanding, whatever their problems were it didn't affect that concert.
Going to see Don this Saturday 8/5/2023. Long live rock & roll.
