Definitely. He is a Master Performer and vocalist. THE G.O.A.T. THE VOICE. He was a mentor to the whole cast. He was playing Jesus - 90 shows they did. ❤❤❤
What an extraordinary experience watching this live, all those years ago. The entire show was amazing, made up of Rock performers already with big careers in their own right, in the lead roles. To this day, the CD is still on rotation in my car. Thank you as always for sharing this around the world. G'day from Australia.
Yeah . Exactly WoW. I saw it live in Melbourne, add a double WoW to John and the whole cast and brilliant show. Yes just as you said, I got pulled In again, like watching a movie, and your on the edge of your seat.
Hi Roscoe. Hard one to pronounce....kinda like ... Geth Sem Any I loved the Rock Opera style for JCSS. The cast were mostly all well known Aussie rock stars ...or pop stars. Was a fantastic show❤ He sure does have a magnetism to him. Very hard to resist. Most of his performances are mesmerising
John's vocal gymnastics is legendary. I am not sure if you have reacted to a song " In days to come" I guarantee you will love it and it's so relevant today.
Watch the Original Movie.... Jesus Christ Superstar to understand this song more... There are some incredible singers in there... Ted Neeley playing Jesus... John Farnham gives a perfect rendition of this movie..
You were spot on John is playing Jesus and is in the garden of Get-sem-in-e(Gethsemane) and is soon to be arrested before being nailed to the cross. Jcs is a light rock opera.
Gethsemane is often referred to as The Agony In The Garden...as it was where Jesus and his apostles went after The Last Supper. Jesus knew what would happen but at the same time he was a 'man' and needed to ask if God could take away the poison chalice. I've heard some ppl say that they were disappointed that he didn't belt out a big last note (as it was done elsewhere) but I loved John's quiet resolve at the end....and did you notice the audience was deafeningly silent at the end...everyone holding their breath as the hauntingly finale music played and John stood in the spotlight. Wow indeed Roskoe, I saw Superstar 3 times (sadly years after John did it) Australia's production was second to none. ps There is a whole cast video from a TV show 'Hey Hey It's Saturday'...which is awesome too. Be well Roskoe 😊
It's pronounced as geth-sem-uh-nee I believe. Greek origin I think, so the 'e' on the end is pronounced similar to how it is in the names Penelope or Aphrodite. It's the garden where the bible says Jesus spent his last night before being crucified, and you're completely right that the song is about him wrestling with the sacrifice that he's going to make. Questioning, bargaining, and then in the end accepting. I'm not personally religious, but the struggle with sacrifice is something that I think is relatable to all sorts of situations for many people.
Roskoe! This song represents the Last Moments of Jesus Life Alive! He is in the Garden of Gethsemane Praying to His Father Knowing What is in Store for Him! Within hours He is Arrested, taken to Court, Convicted by the Corrupt Regime, Sent to the Main Authorities of the Land/City (Annas, Caiaphas, Pilate & Herod), Bargained for a Criminal (Barabbas), Tortured & Crucified! He was Proclaimed Dead by 1500 hrs that day. That was His "Cup of Poison"! All done in less than 12 hours! Thank God He Rose Again 3 days Later! Keep doing what you do! God Bless!
First up, here is the entire show, Jesus Christ Superstar Concert version, last Sydney performance 1992. ruclips.net/video/dvP4JGsjDC4/видео.html This is the best cast I've ever seen for this mammoth piece of work by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice - and I've seen several. Settle back with a glass of your best tipple, crank up the volume and just be one with the performance. This is as much the story of Judas Iscariot as it is about Jesus, and Jon Stevens' interpretation of Judas constantly upstages John Farnham. Stay for the end and meet Farnsey as he bounces around introducing and thanking the cast in his own inimitable style. You also get to meet Tim Rice in the audience, the man who wrote the lyrics to this incredible piece of work. If Tim crossed a couple of ponds to see this performance then it must be pretty bloody good. Thank you for reacting to this peerless rendition of a brilliant song from a brilliant rock opera - the name given to this huge genre from the 1960's onwards. They aren't "musicals" - plays with songs in them; they are operas, the whole story told in song. Andrew Lloyd Webber is best known for JC Superstar, Phantom of the Opera and Cats, but he was a very prolific writer. JC Superstar premiered in 1971 and has never been off the stage somewhere in the world since. In fact, it's touring the US again this year. If it's coming to your city, go see it. It will change your musical life.😂
Ok.... so i had to just now go watch the ORIGINAL of Ted Neeley singing this song during the movie Jesus Christ Superstar... i am BEGGING YOU to please!! Go watch his performance from the rock opera... i PROMISE you.... you will not regret it.. and you will be left speechless...PLEASE... Ted Neeley deserves ALL the credit for his performance. Thanks 💘 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
It was what is known as a "Rock Opera". John is playing Jesus in the garden of Geth-sem-an-e, a garden at the foot of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem where, according to the four Gospels of the New Testament, Jesus asked his disciples to stay with him, but they fell asleep. Here, Jesus underwent the "agony in the garden" and was arrested before his crucifixion. The other biblical musical you were trying to remember was "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". Jacob had twelve sons. Jacob favours his second-youngest Joseph, which he shows by giving him a "coat of many colours". The jealousy of Joseph's brothers is fulfilled by Joseph's interpretation of his own dreams that he is destined to rule over them. They try to kill Joseph but decide to sell him into slavery instead. They smear his coat in goat's blood and tell Jacob that Joseph is dead.
One of the greatest live vocal performances at any venue by any artist ever in my opinion.
This was outstanding!
Agree George 100%
Definitely. He is a Master Performer and vocalist. THE G.O.A.T. THE VOICE. He was a mentor to the whole cast. He was playing Jesus - 90 shows they did. ❤❤❤
Stunning and moving❤
This was amazing. My favorite song from "Jesus Christ Superstar". Gives me chills every time I hear it.
No matter how many times I see this performance it is riveting - the talent level is out of this world and his commitment is 110% to every note
The one word I can think of to describe this version is BREATHTAKING so thankyou.
He draws you in because of the passion in what he does,
Never interrupt greatness.❤
The audience was dead quiet.
This also highlights John's acting ability. He was a master of any genre.
Brilliant as usual , he plays Jesus in this .
Gess em a nee is the pronunciation. I love John Farnham's talent. 😊
Thank you for that, Heather 😊🙏

Lol that would be Joseph and his amazing Technicolor dream coat.
"The Voice". John is the only one who could live up to that Nickname.

Hey Carolyn! That song title was difficult but I knew someone would steer me in the right direction! John rocked this thing out!

When it comes to Farnsey there is no comparison.

Hebrew. It means ‘oil press’, which doesn’t sound quite so appealing. The inference is that it was in an orchard of olive trees.
