I feel sorry for genuine music lovers around the world who were denied exposure to John Farnham all these years because we have had the pleasure of watching him perform in local pubs and clubs since the early '70s. After the release of Whispering Jack and before the big stadium tours began we got to enjoy him and his brilliant band doing those now internationally acclaimed live shows at the local pub down the road. My favourite live performances then and now are When the War is Over, Let Me Out & Playing to Win - you should experience that in a very small venue flat out and in your face from fifty feet !

Venetta Fields - one of John’s back up singers tells a story about John’s high standards for his own performance. She says that everyone on stage is always a little nervous knowing that he won’t be happy with himself until he hits his top note and once he does it, he relaxes into the rest of the concert. If he doesn’t get there, she said you’d better get out of his way! LOL. 😂 He always gets there 🥰

I think the main reason other reactors don’t react is because when you request an Aussie artist, they see that it’s only had a limited amount of views, and therefore isn’t that popular and won’t get them a high volume of views.
On another note, John Farnham is hands down the greatest male singer of all time.
He was so popular in Australia at this time that they used to play his concerts in primetime on free to air television.
They estimate his comeback album “Whispering Jack” is owned by 1 in every 3 Australian people

John is the best singer in his field . No question. He can sing any genre of music from hard rock to soft love songs, ballads, jazz to opera.. His technique is flawless. Because of this he gets to work with the best musicians, singers and backup singers. I love Freddy, but he never did what John does. He never had the range of styles. Dimash is something else, absolutely amazing. But certainly doesn’t have a universal appeal. Don’t even try and compare him to John Farnham they are totally different. John is a Showman, funny, an entertainer. He connects with the crowd, the total package. This is why he is is so loved by everyone. Just go to a Farnham concert and you’ll be blown away.

The lyrics of this song probably reflect some of John's ill-feeling towards the end of his time with the Little River Band (1982 to early 1986). Senior members of LRB would do things like having John's microphone cable shortened during concerts so he couldn't move around the stage as much because they felt he was getting more exposure than them. John earned his rock credibility in LRB, but it was a good thing he left otherwise we'd never have had his solo career that followed with the success of the Whispering Jack album.

That is not the reason, you idiot. It was the same
reason that Beeb Birtles left, he didn’t like John
Farnham’s performance style. They wanted what
they had always been, to play as a tight band,
they didn’t want a singer who wandered around
the stage, tossing microphones and telling corny
jokes, which is what John does. LRB were always
a great band well before Farnham joined and
personally I liked them better when Glen Shorrock
was the lead singer. In fact, it was with Glen in the
band when Glen Fry said LRB were the best vocal
band in the world! Saying that the likes of Birtles,
Goble and Nelson shortened his mic lead out of
jealousy is pure urban myth and nonsense!

The lyrics to John Farnham's song "Let Me Out" are a touching expression of a deep desire to always stand by someone, to be their support system, and to help them navigate through life's ups and downs. The song opens with the idea that no matter where the person being sung to goes or wanders in life, the singer wants to be there for them. The singer wants to hold their hand and catch them should they fall. The lyrics suggest that the singer wants to be a constant presence in the other person's life, seeing them through everything they do.

John's voice is phenomenal and I've been a fan since the beginning and at 72 he's still got it in spades. "Let Me Out" is one of my favourites and I'm glad it was suggested by "Gary". This is from the album "Whispering Jack" and came along at a time when John's career was a little slow, but his manager believed in him so much, to the extent that he mortgaged his home in order to produce "Whispering Jack" which was a success and sat at the top of the charts for many weeks. I don't know if you recognised Venetta Fields (one of his backup singers) whose long career began as a gospel singer with a group from her church. She has backed up Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Boz Scaggs, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Quincy Jones, Barbra Streisand etc. She began recording with Australia's Richard Clapton, Australian Crawl and Jimmy Barnes but it was John Farnham, who brought her to the attention of the Australian public when her spiritual rendition of the classic "Amazing Grace" brought the concerts to a standstill. We appreciate YOUR appreciation of our talent 🥰

I did both and the devil on my shoulder will always be their but it doesn't control me anymore.

1987 was a great year for John. Following up from the 1986 release of the Whispering Jack album. This tour was John's coming out party. I feel this song should of got more attention than it did. As a 14yo I loved it immediately and thrashed this on the tape deck for weeks.

I love this song- it was my COVID song when we were on heavy lockdown. I’d put the headphones on and let John screen in my ears, when the frustration of COVID got pretty hard to deal with here in Aus. John saved my sanity.
No John’s not singing about his wife, it could sound like that from someone who who hasn’t grown up listening to him for decades. Jill his wife, stays in the background, not a publicity wife at all and John has said she’s his rock. Gee they have been married about 50 years now.

I was at this concert when it recorded well over 30 years ago. Have a look at John Farnham - Whispering Jack concert. This is where this clip is from. I still remember this concert like it was yesterday.
It’s about 1 and half hours of JF epic ness.
Amazingly he was smoking a pack a day. Drinking coke like it was water and his voice is still this incredible. He is still my favourite artist of all time.

John called his touring brass section 'The Brasstards'... his typical humour and a play on words of a very commonly used word in Oz... another one with dual meanings...can be negative and in this way positive ! Haha. Brett (Rambo) Garsed, apart from one stint with The Nelsons, has been Johns lead guitarist since the very first Whispering Jack tour... They really are all like a family - all of them have made themselves available regardless of how long in between tours/albums. Shows just how much John is respected as an artist, but more importantly as a person.

I have to say- there are other overseas reactors that do John Farnham reaction videos and they have no where as much enthusiasm for what they do as you do Nick… you are thorough and real and your reaction is instant, not ‘listen to the whole song and say a few words at the end’ like others do and I personally respect your opinion more than theirs…
I also love watching when I know what’s coming and I know you don’t and your pure surprise and joy when those awesome moments come

John is not easy to cover. I always sound too flat or too pitchy. He has grunt AND soul and he deserves to be in the "all time" list. I found him 40 years ago because my mum was a fan. I worked on 3 of his tours and he is such a showman, he's all about the fans and the fun. Unfortunately, it looks like he might not sing again but I hope he does

Let Me Out is about when he was in the Little River Band and wasn’t happy there. He wanted out but felt trapped. It’s always been one of my favourites. On the album version it starts with fingers clicking and just hearing fingers click can transport me back to my bedroom aged 10 listening to it on my new record for the first time. I love it. And now as an adult, understanding what it’s about, it’s very suited to my life. So much so that I want it played at my funeral.
