This song is over a century old traditional Finnish Christmas song. One of the most loved in this country.
The poem itself is from 1859 by Zacharias Topelius which was turned into a song in 1913. The main character in the lyrics is a sparrow which came to ask help from a little girl in the middle of winter, and the girl obliged offering seeds. Thankful for the help the sparrow reveals that it is in fact her little brother from "the land of the angels".
In northern European mythology small birds were seen as spirits of deceased children, this is what Topelius based his poem on.. his son had just died only one year old. Therefore, the little girl is one of his daughters and the sparrow is his son.

The song is about a sparrow, and there's a girl who feeds the sparrow, but the sparrow ends up being her little brother who died years back; essentially its about giving charity to everyone.

Thank you guys for the reaction. Info on "Raskasta Joulua" (translated as "Heavy Christmas"): Started in 2004, Raskasta Joulua is annual Finnish Christmas rock concert tour with rock/metal arrangements from traditional Xmas songs performed mainly by leading Finnish rock vocalists.
"Varpunen Jouluaamuna" you listened is translated as "Sparrow on Christmas Morning", original song by Otto Kotilainen (1913) from Zacharias Topelius's poem (1859). Zacharias wrote a poem after his child past away, with 'sparrow' being his past son sent from the heavens to visit briefly on earth. Quite melancholic stuff as per usual to older Finnish Xmas tradition.
If you want something more uplifting songs from Raskasta Joulua tour (with english subs added) these are highly recommended performances for you:
    1. Raskasta Joulua (Heavy Christmas) 2019 - "Little Drummer Boy": ruclips.net/video/xXgX05FcPwQ/видео.html
[Original song: "Little Drummer Boy" by Katherine Kennicott (1941).
    2. Raskasta Joulua (Heavy Christmas) 2019 - "Happy Xmas": ruclips.net/video/XcbbDR2oxgI/видео.html
[Original Song: "Happy Xmas" by John Lennon & Yoko Ono (1971).
Have a great Xmas/Holiday time and greetings from far away Finland :)
PS. Fixed the video links to have versions with english lyrics subtitles for you guys. Please refresh the message if video does not have them shown. Thank you once again :)

Finland can truly be called a metal country. We have over 7k metal bands per 5.6 million people. The most famous band is probably Nightwish, but other incredibly good bands include Wintersun, Battle Beast, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, HIM, Amorphis... there are actually so many of them that there is a style that suits everyone's musical taste. Yes, of course it's worth checking out all the bands I mentioned 😉 because good music is always ❤️.

This is one of the most loved Christmas songs in FInland. Topelius wrote the poem that is the basis of this song when his 1-year-old son died right before spring. The girl gives a tiny sparrow food from their meager stores and she is given a chance to meet her little brother as a reward for her kindness.
Also, there's a version with english lyrics. ruclips.net/video/yKyg4m1qIOQ/видео.html

Finnish is a very good language for songs of any genre. it is because we have a a lot of vowels and words can be bent in many forms: and we have a lot of words in general. Especially descriptive words.
Raskasta joulua -tour turned 20 years this christmas, it is sold out always and they show new and old tours on TV on christmas. It is a big deal here :)

The singers of many metal bands tour Finland singing metal versions of well-known Christmas songs, this is "Varpunen jouluaamuna" (Sparrow on Christmas morning); the message is beautiful.
Other popular Christmas songs: "Tulkoon joulu" (Let Christmas come) and "Sydämeeni joulun teen" (I'll make Christmas into my heart).

These "Raskasta Joulua" -concert tours have been done for probably over 20 years now. Whilst the song is one of my favorite christmas songs, there are actually heavy versions of it and others. This is quite mainstream in Finland. Anyway, check out Tunrida - Worship No God.

The thing you kind of have to know about Finnish christmas songs is that, everywhere else christmas songs are about happiness and togetherness etc, Finnish christmas songs are about someone or something dying or being in hunger or grandma having to spend the christmas alone in the middle of nowhere.

I have little weird suggestion. Band is called Hevisaurus and song is 100. Hevisaurus is finnish heavy metal band for kids and song is their 100 song. Band contains five members and in this song there are lot of high caliber rock singers, guitarist and keyboard players! Bands like Nighwish and Tarot, Battle Beast, Helloween and Gamma Ray, Stratovarius and Rainbow and Megadeth. Video is also closed captioned in english!

Of course Finland has the most heavy metal bands... My son (who is now 13) chose Germany as his third foreign language (English, swedish, Germany) just so he can understand Rammstein.
He is musically talented (from his mother's side) and learns how to play drums and guitar by listening heavy songs and following the tabs.
He listens mostly extremely heavy music, heavier than I do. so... It runs in our blood.
