Thanks heaps for the great reaction. No matter how many times I watch this performance I’m blown away, this has to be one of best live vocal performances by any artist ever.
John Farnham is truly amazing, and in my opinion, he is one of the best singers/entertainers in the world. Thank you for coming back to him, I can't wait to see more.
Yes Kim our wonderful John Farnham is amazing. I have been lucky enough to have seen him live many times over the years, even in small pub settings. 🇦🇺💕
@@kimr3729 how amazing was he. We used to follow him around the pub circuit in Melbourne after he released Whispering Jack and just before he became absolutely huge. We are so lucky. 💕
He has done a cover of Led Zeppelin’s Black Dog - audio only as it was a sound check for the band and recorded by one of the sound technicians.. worth a listen and shows another genre he can do effortlessly.
Thanks for reacting to the wonderful talent of John Farnham playing the role of Jesus Christ at this Easter time. So many people forget or do not know what Easter and the given holiday is all about !
Nice for you to recognise what Easter is all about, its name coming from Eostre, the goddess of springtime, and the cause of spring equinox celebrations. Or are you talking about the celebration of the rebirth of Innana as celebrated at the spring equinox thousands of years before the Jews, by the ancient Sumerians, and the way the very fecund rabbit, and eggs represent that rebirth, and are still a central part of Easter today, some 5000+ years later? Or are you referring to Passover, which occurs roughly at Easter time and god in Leviticus commands his people to observe? Of course it is likely not a coincidence that Passover occurs around the same time as the rebirth of Innana, and the Jews probably usurped an existing holiday for their own purposes. A lot of the Jewish religion comes from Sumerian mythology. Of course Everyone Jewish observed Passover, and the non-Jews celebrated Easter, and the early Christians couldn't stamp out either celebration so appear to have at some point glommed the Jesus myth onto the ancient spring celebration, possibly as early as the end of the first century. It appears they couldn't stamp out eggs and bunnies, however, and they are still with us, just like the very ancient Sumerian practice of Christmas trees, and the Roman practice of gift giving and goodwill that still exists long after Christians glommed the Jesus birth story onto the winter solstice celebrations that the Christians couldn't stamp out so they rebranded it as Christmas, and simply tolerated the trees and gift giving. Christians usurped those ancient pagan holidays in a similar way to how the Jews usurped Sumerian mythology. It is nice for you, however, to recognize the real pagan purpose of the holiday, and the rebirth of Innana, although I am not sure what it has to do with a musical about a Johnny-come-lately religion.
I can't count how many times I've watched reactions to this performance. But for me John truly brings 'The Agony In The Garden' (as it is often referred to) to life and the then man who knew he was about to die...So raw was his pain...John never sings anything that isn't heart felt. Wow Sue thanks so much for your wonderful reaction. I hope you had a lovely Easter my friend. Love from Australia
Hi Linsu, it is always lovely to hear from you. My Easter was very nice. Thank you for enquiring. I hope you had a nice time as well. Great performance by John. He is outstanding 🤩💗
Wow!! Is right - goosebumps - he did this just about every day for 3 months - supposed to be only 12 performances but kept getting sold out!!. Could have heard a pin drop. 📌 Also listen to Everythings Alright from the same concert. Just watch the whole thing ☺️☺️
I bet everyone wanted to see John perform in this musical. It must have been absolutely mesmerizing to see him perform. He is incredible. Ok will do, Debbie. Thanks for the heads up. I will check it out 🥰
While this is amazing, it was extraordinary live!! I wasn't at this particular performance, but the entire show was extraordinary. They decided to do a rock arena style version of JCS, instead of the usual period costume performance. So they cast a whole list of people who were already household names in their own right. John Farnham, Jon Stevens, Kate Ceberano, Angry Anderson, John Waters, Russel Morriss. They all had strong careers in Australia before this show. I also love the revolving stage, at certain camera angles it looks like Jesus is floating..... Another great reaction Sue.
It should be pointed out that this wasn’t a theatrical production of the show. It was billed as The Music of Jesus Christ Superstar. Doesn’t take away from the quality of the performances.
I especially like the Hey, Hey it's Saturday version. The whole cast are brilliant, then they sing (impromptu) Amazing Grace. So many talented Aussies there.
Bravo ! Easy to get lost in this performance what a lucky audience JCSS was first released as an Album as they couldn’t get funding for stage production But after it did open …. Well the rest is history
The Album ( which proceeded the stage show ) was huge success being #1Album of 1971 , beating Tapestry to top spot. Ian Gillan of Deep Purple sang the role of Jesus and so sang Gethsemane , same year he sang Smoke on the Water Yvonne Elliman was Mary Magdalene and appeared in Movie where she sang I Don’t Know How to Love Him ; Yvonne would later have huge hit with ; If I can’t have You from Saturday Night Fever
I think this is my favorite version of this powerful and emotional song. It makes sense for John to play Jesus as John is a god. An incredible live performance that he had to repeat night after night that the show was done, amazing. He’s definitely the goat, very special.
@beresfordthompson1370 Yes it always amazes me when someone can redo a show or song night after night and puts so much into it and that is rxactly what John did. He puts alk of himself into this performance...just stellar 🥰
The quiet listening was very much as a mark of respect to the performer. We can get loud when we want but at times the most thunderous of applause is in silence. And yes, if it's a music genre, John can sing it. Look at Help as a great example of owning a song: most Aussies kind of forget it's a poppy Beatles song and instead will sing to John's pattern, every time.
@@mjustjeanette7026 Hi Jeanette, thanks for tuning in and commenting. John is off the charts great. You are so lucky to call him one of your own...so amazing 🤩💙
This song and, John’s performance hits right in the feels. I knew you’d be blown away by this performance Sue. Can you believe that in Australia, John’s performance was trashed by the critics?! There's a great video comparing this version of the song to the one John Legend did a few years ago. And John Legend's version sounds so weak by comparison it's almost laughable. And, yes, I'm an Australian and completely biased. Farnham is a God here in Oz.
Hey Roland, I believe it. I have heard John Legend sing and is ok but I can't imagine he would hold a candle to John Farnham. Farnham slayed this performance...and I am not Aussie so I am not biased 😜🤩💜
