Entirely different from the book series. The only similarity is the title. The book series was SERIOUSLY dark and terrifying however the movie version was just a silly summertime popcorn eating diversion.
There wasn't nearly enough shark. In Jaws, less is more, but in The Meg we need wayyyyy more! Oh and why would a 75 foot monster shark even waste time on tiny little humans? They wouldn't even be a snack to a shark that size.
I am very disappointed with the movie. It only borrowed a few key elements from the original book series and threw out the rest. I wish they had been true to Steve Alten's vision.
This movie didn’t go silly campy and also didn’t go full out bloody horror so it basically didn’t choose a lane and danced on that pg13 boring line. If it went over the top silly campy it could of been fun or if it went hard R horror bloody that could of worked too. Instead it is just sort of meh
They could have stayed faithful to the books and made a really good thriller, but no they had to change and lighten the whole story to make it pg13. As someone who’s read the books i was really disappointed with this movie
Why does every jason statham movie feel like a tom cruise movie. Is he that insecure that every scene has to subliminaly compliment him in some way. Its annoying!!!
Roy Scheider! The man's name is Roy Scheider! There's no farking N in his name! He's the star of what is generally considered one of the greatest films of all time! He's a two-time Oscar nominee, for crying out loud! And the guy from the bible was Jonah. The guy from The Meg is named Jonas.
I didn’t hate it but it was kind of disappointing, they could have been more faithful to the book: The Meg should’ve been albino Jonas and Mac were meant to be older and haggard, and emotionally damaged not these action tough guys They should’ve had the Meg vs T Rex scene from the book
Rob Picken i agree about jonas and how he should have been more haggard. I actually had Robert Taylor the actor who played played Heller in mind when reading the book.
Madalin Grama i’m one of those “lazy retards” you talk about. I don’t Google every subject of every book i read, because i read a book to escape into a story, I don’t care about species living millions of years apart. It’s a work of fiction. You must be one of those nerdy geeks who have to insist every detail of a novel is 100% correct. If you Google every detail of what you read then I feel sorry for you. You must have had a fit when you saw the Jurassic Park dinosaurs had no feathers!
Kinda sad to listen to the Review, I too had hoped for something a bit zanier and whackier than 'Deep Ble Sea' (even if Sam Jackson's stage left exit can never be topped) without going as overboard as Sharknado. Piranha was more soft porn than anything else (pretty stupid film, but entertaining for a first watch).
Awash in a sea of cinematic cliches, both verbal and visual. The only way to enjoy this movie is to consider it a comedy. It is a parody of every Shark movie but mostly of itself. And "All for a bowl of soup".
Who are these crazy people complaining about the Meg being too serious? It's sufficiently dumb late summer fun. And don't bring up Sharknado as a positive in comparison. If it's trying to be so bad it's good, it's not so bad it's good. The Meg offers dumb fun and delivers with solid craftsmanship and retro B movie charm.
To all those people asking for a bloodier version its a massive shark that swallows people not bites them in pieces . Also times have changed now when you have monster films Jurassic World , both of them aimed at families PG -13 crowd . If they slap on the R rating it will end up being 45 meters down forgettable
You could have learned about the #MarianasTrench 10 plus years ago with the first Transformers movie. Its where the humans dumped the remains of Megatron and from where he resumed his command once resurrected in the sequel.
Dominique Marsell wrong. In the transformers movie, they specify that it’s the Laurentian Abyss, which is falsely named as the deepest part of the oceans.
4:10 " I really hope this movie is stupid, and it wasn't as stupid as i wanted it to be " She wasn't the prat who suggested a Popular category at the oscars was she....
How can anyone take a movie about a giant shark and NOT turn it into a horror movie with lots of blood and guts but inst3ead turn it into a PG-13 movie?? What's next ? An Alien reboot with PG-13???
It's rather worrying that people see 'starring Jason Statham' and are like "i'm there". He is a horrendous actor, making the most idiotic of movies for a quick buck.
You realize that all the critics on this channel have other jobs and responsibilities as well. The WTF youtube channel brings in guest critics on many occasions prior to this week.
At the end of the book (yes, book), the main character rams down the PREGNANT meg's throat with the underwater craft and cuts his way through the shark, stabs it in the heart, and slices his way out before it sinks to the bottom. The Meg gives birth to a baby and the baby swims off. In the movie, the main character scratches it, and a bunch of smaller sharks eat it.
That was in the original book. Alten revised it and it was far less interesting. He let himself be swallowed tail first and then fired the afterburners and fried it from the inside. Either one would have been better than this ending.
bigoted goes under that i picked that because he is probably antisemitic but without proof to that bigoted covers everything from racism to anti LGBT and it is much more broad
You're a fucking moron. Being a move with a shark doesn't make it a remake dipshit. It makes a film in the same sub-genre. It's idiots like you that really prove why there needs to be an IQ test before someone is allowed access to the internet.
Really liked the guest critics. I usually dislike guest critics in this channel, but these guys were really good. Invite them more often.
"So there's a shark" lol
Tim looks like Spike Lee
Not at all, Mouth-breather
Spike Lee is white?
They should've just called it "The Cliche".
"It's not as stupid as Sharknado..."
Is that even possible?
Shadowman4710 nope
A very welcome change to the regular line up
Nice guest reviewers this week

Liking Katie and the Tims
How much did Katie get paid from the studio for this performance?
Countfoscolikesmice paid her in sardines
So one person gets a movie that’s very not hard to get.
Also, there’s no love triangle. An ex-wife doesn’t equate “love interest.”
"She would have made it, too, if she hadn't been wearing her lucky ham."
This movie didn’t go silly campy and also didn’t go full out bloody horror so it basically didn’t choose a lane and danced on that pg13 boring line. If it went over the top silly campy it could of been fun or if it went hard R horror bloody that could of worked too. Instead it is just sort of meh
so it's actually taking itself serious? great :/
Invite Tim Cogshell more often.
Lol yup, even my screening got the biggest reaction during the scene with the dog!!!!
what happened? I curious and dont mind the spoiler, I doubt I will be watching this movie.
Júlia Almada *spoilers warning*
The dog swims back to the boat without being eaten.
In the book there's a reason the guy is called Jonas. Like in the story, he get inside the fucking shark! That's how he kills it.
They could have stayed faithful to the books and made a really good thriller, but no they had to change and lighten the whole story to make it pg13. As someone who’s read the books i was really disappointed with this movie
Imagine if Paul Verhoven directed The Meg now that's a shark movie I want to see
I guess I'll go see it. I already saw Fallout. Anything else good coming out in August or September? Sorta feels kinda "dry".
undercurrent Christopher robin
I thought that was Spike Lee, he has the get up
and the skin color
Why does every jason statham movie feel like a tom cruise movie. Is he that insecure that every scene has to subliminaly compliment him in some way. Its annoying!!!
I'm really enjoying Cogshell. Have him on more please.
Sharks, beets, battlestar galactica.
The daughter is scarier than the shark. Agreed.
I loved it. I was expecting it to be much sillier and was pleasantly surprised that it was not "more dumb" and definitely happy it was not bloodier.
Hey! Jonas is a name used in the bible; Jonah's given name was actually Jonas. But I think that's just a coincidence. Have a great day!
I didn’t hate it but it was kind of disappointing, they could have been more faithful to the book:

Can't believe BlackPhoneOperator got almost double the score The Meg got.
I wish it was rated R, would’ve been great to see gory takedowns like in Piranha 3D 🤣🤣🤣
Kinda sad to listen to the Review, I too had hoped for something a bit zanier and whackier than 'Deep Ble Sea' (even if Sam Jackson's stage left exit can never be topped) without going as overboard as Sharknado. Wrong there are actually two in the movie. Know your facts boi
spoilers
Lol
True
Two of the biggest sharks
Giggity
I missed Tim. And i like the other tim too!
undercurrent Hooray for Tims!
THE MEG SUCKED
GO WATCH FALLOUT AGAIN
I'm glad to see they brought in some better film critics. The original crew was terrible and giving WTF a bad name.
Your so right👍
I do like the host
Tim is so sassy
I thought the effects were pretty solid for what the movie was.
John Wonder the budget was like 130million. The cgi should be amazing

7??!! Never has "WTF" been more appropriate! Stupid score.
if you close your eyes tim g sounds like a slightly sedated coy jandreu
This vid represents whats wrong with online movie reviewers
John Wonder why?

Well that didn't make Jurassic World a good movie nor help it's forgettable plot. Haven't you figured out yet that PG-13 sucks?
yea but it took a bite out of the other shark and there wasnt shit. either way the movie was ass and worse then sharknado 100%
What happend to the dog in this movie
Jacob Smith it gets eaten by Chinese people
No
Bro are you mad
Boomer will.....LIVE!!!
🤓Nice specs, Christy.

So it's not a horror movie???😕
Kristina Romano horrible movie
Sudev Sen Thanks for the heads up.👍
Dang they should let the meg eat more chinese!
Jason I make stupid movies Statham is in it, forget it.
4:10 " I really hope this movie is stupid, and it wasn't as stupid as i wanted it to be " She wasn't the prat who suggested a Popular category at the oscars was she....
Do you support shark fin soup?

Jaws was pg
terrible movie

Wtf??? A black person on WHAT THE FLICK????? It’s an end-of-summer miracle!
दिल से दुवां हे की जहा रहो आबद रहो और बरबाद रहो
Cheesy Big Meg
Why are there so many new faces on this channel lately? Did Atchity and Alonso get fired or something?
You realize that all the critics on this channel have other jobs and responsibilities as well. The WTF youtube channel brings in guest critics on many occasions prior to this week.
Diversity.
I think they are on vacation
The problem isn’t it’s PG-13 like Christy says. That’s not the problem. The problem is the movie is so cliché.
The Meg was a fun summer film and a good Jason Statham fillm.
At the end of the book (yes, book), the main character rams down the PREGNANT meg's throat with the underwater craft and cuts his way through the shark, stabs it in the heart, and slices his way out before it sinks to the bottom. Don’t expect greatness out of The Meg. It’s a cliché shark movie.
Pete Puebla dude this is better than the shitty sharknado and other trash tv low budget shark movies
Pete Puebla clichéd but fun as heck
All Light wow not only are you sexist but completely bigoted
you are a complete anus
ihartevil He also is a complete racist
bigoted goes under that i picked that because he is probably antisemitic but without proof to that bigoted covers everything from racism to anti LGBT and it is much more broad
Studios need to stop making shark movies cause we can’t take them seriously anymore.
The girl wasn’t creepy like this critic is saying.
Mhd
I wouldn’t care if this is R. It doesn’t need to be gory.
Wrong
Johnny Skinwalker adding gore makes the movie worse
Borderline "Fresh". Un-unh... Unless RT revised the dividing line percentage from 65% to 50%, it's nowhere near borderline.
Dennis Kristos it was never 65%, it has always been 60%
Hollywood is running out of ideas, A "Jaws" remake? SMH
Not a Jaws remake. It's an adaptation of a 1997 novel. Not saying whether it's a good or bad thing.
Reinhard Schwarz Hollywood and indie circuits have been making shark attack movies for YEARS.
Stephen Atwood Still a movie about a SHARK right? I mean it doesn't matter if it's a remake or not.
You're a fucking moron. Being a move with a shark doesn't make it a remake dipshit. It makes a film in the same sub-genre. It's idiots like you that really prove why there needs to be an IQ test before someone is allowed access to the internet.
Wait a minute ,,Roy SHNEIDER ? And he only did two JAWS movies ,,do your homework dudes
I love how this old style hero muscularity movie ..
I,movie not the only one it smashed every leftwing pro black feminist boring movie ..
Tim C took the review too seriously
What are you talking about? He pretty much agreed with everything the others said. I think it's in your head. Tim C is great reviewer.
Tim C is boring.
