I think Tom cruise is as crazy as everyone else does, but I've never been able to bring myself to disrespect his work or ability as an actor. I tend to look forward to his movies.
This movie is so expertly handled, it's INSANE. I thought it was going to be terrible, but it's absolutely awesome, and one of the best managed films for what it is by the direction and execution I've ever seen.
For a movie they all seemed to like, they sure seemed to crack a lot of jokes about it and focused a lot of time on things that have little to do with the movie itself. Excellent movie. My second favorite action film this year after Captain America: Winter Soldier. See this movie and support quality scifi.
I agree with you. People should go watch this movie. Awesome movie and really the only movie other than Captain American: TWS, where you would actually watch it again. This movie deserves more justice at the box office, fantastic movie and Emily Blunt is a badass in this film.
This movie was definitely well executed, brilliant comes to mind for this film. I just got back from watching it 30 minutes ago. A must see for everyone.Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt were perfect in this movie. Emily Blunt is so damn fine!!. Her eyes will just draw you in like a magnetic force field, lol. I wonder if she's into black guys.
Tom Cruise confuses me. Just when you think he's a great actor, he makes you think otherwise. Then when you think he sucks, he comes back and shows he's big time. I'm pumped for this movie
Saw this yesterday (NZ time) and thought it was a really good film. Going in I thought it would simply be another sci-fi alien movie, but it turned out much better than I expected. It's a simple story based on a familiar premise (Groundhog Day), and even though it is basically a time travel film, it doesn't suffer from any of the problems so often encountered in time travel movies. Although something seems off about how the film ends. 9 out of 10.
I saw this last week (it came out early in Europe) and thought it was great. I agree about the ending, but its not too bad that it ruins the first 2/3. One thing that would have made it better would have been a Bill Murray cameo.
I would be amazed if anyone commented on how "old" Tom Cruise looks. He doesn't look old. He and Matt Damon are people who look younger than they are by about 15 years, because of their facial structure. So even when Tom Cruise is old, he won't look as old as he is. When I watched the movie, I didn't even think once about how old the guy was. I think anyone who watches a movie trying to evaluate "how old" someone is looking needs to change their perspective, and focus on the movie and the acting and not look for faults. Just my opinion.
I haven't seen the film yet. Someone explain to me how it's possible to build strength and muscle memory you gained in that particular day, if the day restarts itself? If you begin at the beginning again and again, wouldn't your body "regenerate" to it's first state as well?
Don't know why people can't talk about this movie without saying, "Tom Cruise is annoying" or something to that effect. I like Cruise as a movie star. I like this movie. I don't think we need to talk about the META movie verse so much when discussing this film. Everyone can't seem to talk about their personal relationship with a person they don't actually know at all... just robs allot of the credit from the critics intro, not just this review but all reviews spend 2/3 of the movie discussion discussing if you miss TomCat or not.
For those that don't get the ending, here it is explained. SPOILERS! The Omega's power isn't restarting the day, but transporting it's mind/consciousness into a younger version of itself. The alphas are part of the central nervous system that triggers the "resets". But instead of a set time basis, like 24 hours, the central nervous system is triggered to transport itself to 2 consciousness points ago (the moment you wake up and gain consciousness). Cage's 1st consciousness moment prior to first getting killed was the morning of the invasion, and the 2 consciousness point(reset point) was when he woke up in the base. Later, when he kills the Omega he hasn't slept that first night, so this time, his new 1st consciousness point is when he wakes up at the base, and his 2nd consciousness point (new reset point) is when he wakes up in the helicopter. When he makes that final "reset" at the end his consciousness is being transferred to his younger self. Remember, the Omega's power isn't turning back time, or else the Omega would still be alive at the end. The central nervous system transports the mind of the Omega and alphas to it's younger self. But since the Omega is dead at the end, and the switch for the "reset" is inadvertently flipped through the blood, both Cage's and the "dead/empty Omega's mind" goes back one final time to replace the mind of it's younger self. While Cage's younger he's-still-a-major-in-the-helicopter mind is replaced by it's future one, the younger Omega's mind is replaced by it's dead one. Hence the Omega is STILL dead even at this new "timeline". That's why it makes sense that the Omega is dead at the end.
Everyone fake laughs at the Contra joke. Nobody there knew what he was talking about when he said Contra. Heck, most of the people reading this comment wont know what Contra is.
I've got a small quibble with how old they are because in "All You Need is Kill" both of them are in their late teens to early twenties, but if the movie is good then I guess it was worth the change.
Tom Cruise just keeps making good to great movies. His career keeps getting better. In a sea of CGI summer crapfests, his movies tell interesting stories. Great review WTF.
I did not plan to watch this movie cause of Tom Cruise but seeing all these reviews changed my mind. I have read the manga although I haven't finished it yet. So the ending not spoiled.
Wasn't it a manga first, then a light novel? Or an illustrated light novel first & then a manga? I thought the illustrated light novel was just a republication of the manga?
This is a film that I went to see with a few friends because we were bored and a generic action flick seemed like a decent choice. But we all left the theater saying "...wow, that was WAY better than I thought it would be." Great, enjoyable film! It's too bad that more people didn't see it when it first came out, but hopefully the word of mouth will help the sequel.
It's hard to find good sci-fi that executes it's defining concept(Time travel, Aliens, Power armour) convincingly. As a side note: Everytime I saw that "To Victory" -poster, I thought about The Brotherhood Outcasts... and their Gatling Lasers.
PitchBlackFox You didn't understand the context of how he was referencing Contra. He was referencing his first impressions upon hearing about this movie. He thought it would be like watching someone play Contra to where they'd die and have to start over ad nauseum. Then he says at the end that the movie isn't like that. I'm annoyed because he thinks Contra is tedious and repetitive when it's not. My critique has nothing to do with the movie. From everything that I've heard, it sounds great.
The worst choice for a PG-13 movie to make was World War Z, a bloodless zombie apocalypse and a total waste of time. For this one it kind of makes sense though, what with the aliens and the mecha and stuff. I'll give it a shot.
Adam Ferguson Nope. In every episode of Whattheflick the "average" on the screen is the average score of the panel of reviewers, not the rottentomatoes average. They genuinely made a mistake editing this episode. The RT average (which they never show) is a 7.4. The tomatometer, which is the number in the actual tomato, is correct. Or it presumably was back when this video went up. It has now shifted to 89%.
I grew up playing Contra. ..one of my all time favorites. ..I wasn't sure about this film ... the trailers blew...saw it . N really enjoyed it. I dont hate Tom Cruise. ..but he kind of creeps me out...post oprahs couch...and the whole scientology thing with the kids ..idk...I always try n separate artist from work and personal life . .but Tom is that person it is hard for me to do that with....I luv him in IMF though. ...mission impossible. ...
Loved this film, very entertaining. I would like to have seen a bit more gore, certainly in the beginning (so make it more Starship Troopers- see what was at stake and up the future shock thrills), but once the time-loop aspect of the film gets going, that just sweeps you along and the lack of gore stops being an issue.
I loved this movie! I don't like Tom Cruise. As a person, he disturbs me. I have nightmares about him. But this movie was riveting. Emily Blunt was the best part. And she gets to shoot Tom Cruise a zillion times. Win!
This was so much fun & much better than the Joyless "Godzilla" & the very muddled X Men movie with an ending that makes the other movies redundant. I hope it makes a lot of money
Did they even try to review this "movie"? I felt as though I was watching the Edge of Tom Cruise seeing as they only talked about him for 80% of the video. : /
I wanted to like this movie. I like TOM Cruise. I came away feeling "eh" about the movie. I was more blown away by the 3D and how AWESOME it's gotten. For some reason I was more impressed with it here than with Gravity. It must be good because I started thinking that seeing the new Transformer movie might not be so bad. T.E.O.T. was just sci-fi Groundhog Day. End of story. Imagine it...you got it. Save some dough. .....that 3D was amazing though. It might b worth it for that.
SPOILER! the scene where they are doing the push ups and he rolls over under the truck and you think he's going to get away but he just gets horrifically run over. i laughed so hard
Why do What the Flick bash Tom Cruise so much? Why not review a movie starring Tom Cruise without being so negative. Get to the point of the film itself. Jeez.
There's a backlash against Tom Cruise because he keeps doing similar movies. It's not against him personally (he's really too bland to dislike). But people are tired of him. He doesn't challenge himself professionally and he keeps doing the action hero flick then when he's really not someone you root for. Again, he's too bland. I kind of want to see this movie but I feel tired at just the thought of having to watch Tom Cruise for more than 30 minutes. I really wish they had cast someone else.
Hello Alonso, Matt, Christy and Ben, Eric Ryder here, great review on the film"Edge of Tomorrow". I agreed with a lot of what you had to say. The time-looping sequences were very refreshing because there's something new we see in each scene instead of the monotony. The script by Chris McQuarrie and the Butterworth brothers were excellent and the direction by Doug Liman was one of his best sine "The Bourne Identity". Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt had real good chemistry and the action scenes never stall. Please come by my channel. I have a review on the film "Edge of Tomorrow". Please feel free to leave a comment. Okay? Thank you very much.
Scientology is creepy and sinister but it's became a receptacle for all the pent up frustrations we have with the long established creepy and sinister religions, that have had far more time to master controlling society's rules of conversation. None of that actually detracts from the fact that I've been enjoying creepy Scientologist Tom Cruise in his films for a few decades now and we do take the guy for granted. He may not be Judi Dench but his intensity holds the screen, particularly in blockbusters. For what it's worth, there are plenty of great actors in Hollywood attaching themselves to Judaism, yet we don't seem to notice or care. And if you've read the Torah/Old Testament, it's consistently morally repulsive!
Say what you want about Tom Cruise but he's in some pretty good shit. He can believe in trillion year old alien ghosts but as long as his movies don't suck so be it.
These people shdnt be reviewing movies. All they did is talk about Tom Cruise and just things that dont relate to the movie like Yoga. Gosh what a waste of my time. Will never subscribe.

This statement is perfectly said. I can't agree more.

"See this movie and support quality scifi"
despite all grievances with hollywood, hear hear. I can't think of another movie I'd say this for.

Every movie could use a Bill Murray cameo. ;)
A Murray cameo would always make a film better. But that would have been fantastic.

A rare treat of a movie.

Tom Cruise is the real true movie star! And Emily Blunt is superb in this movie.
was the average of 9.1 a joke or a mistake?
misjoke

I am real curious to see how close Edge of Tomorrow stays true to All You Need Is Kill.
WRXXXual From what I've seen of it so far it look pretty good about being true to "All You Need is Kill."
seen it last night, it's good!
kokofan50 The entire last act and ending are both VERY different between the manga and the movie.
Manga/light novels are way too obsessed with late teens early twenties it would be very refreshing to see older characters
Tom Cruise just keeps making good to great movies. His career keeps getting better. In a sea of CGI summer crapfests, his movies tell interesting stories. Great review WTF.
Keeps making .....?? it's his first great movie in a long time.
I did not plan to watch this movie cause of Tom Cruise but seeing all these reviews changed my mind. I have read the manga although I haven't finished it yet. So the ending not spoiled.
If everyone's individual score is a 8.2, HOW THE HELL IS THE AVERAGE A 9.1?!?!?
"Me No Good At Math"
- WTF Editor
It's a mistake from the average of one of the previous reviews (of Obvious Child).
No talk about the manga this is based on?
it's based off a light novel.
Wasn't it a manga first, then a light novel? Or an illustrated light novel first & then a manga? I thought the illustrated light novel was just a republication of the manga?
Nope. Non-illustrated light novel, which was adapted into a manga earlier this year.
No, because most people don't give a shit about manga. Be realistic.
niemanickurwa i care. I was hoping to finish the manga before watching the movie but the manga isnt completely translated
This is a film that I went to see with a few friends because we were bored and a generic action flick seemed like a decent choice. What the hell? If you die in Contra, you start in the exact same place you died at. Don't bash Contra.
Bad analogy but you get the point.
it wasn't a bash at Contra
PitchBlackFox He's obviously making it sound as if it's tedious and repetitive. I consider that bashing. Not to mention inaccurate.
Dialectical Materialism he gave it an 8.2, they all liked how it was repetitive, no one was complaining
PitchBlackFox You didn't understand the context of how he was referencing Contra. He was referencing his first impressions upon hearing about this movie. I'm annoyed because he thinks Contra is tedious and repetitive when it's not. My critique has nothing to do with the movie. From everything that I've heard, it sounds great.
This was a really good movie and Cruise and Blunt were great and potent.
The aliens were hyper-charged nightmares....which is great too.
The worst choice for a PG-13 movie to make was World War Z, a bloodless zombie apocalypse and a total waste of time. For this one it kind of makes sense though, what with the aliens and the mecha and stuff. I'll give it a shot.
everyone gave this an 8.2, yet the average score was 9.1 yuuuuup
They calculated that using e-meters.
9.1 on rotten tomatoes.
oh brother... please look again
Adam Ferguson true dat, gonna try watch it today

I too thought he was too old at the beginning of the movie. But it's the hair, it's how thin he is and so on... But it's deliberate. And that's cool.
I loved this movie! I don't like Tom Cruise. As a person, he disturbs me. I have nightmares about him. But this movie was riveting. Emily Blunt was the best part. And she gets to shoot Tom Cruise a zillion times. Win!

Alonzo brings his own seat cushion to the show?
Did they even try to review this "movie"? I felt as though I was watching the Edge of Tom Cruise seeing as they only talked about him for 80% of the video. : /
The ending was hilarious with the "I give it an 8.2"
Tom Cruise delivers more often than not. His filmography is as impressive as any actor of his generation.
5:45 this might be something you should give credit to the writers for.
it is a shame they didn't stick closer to the novel though.
I wanted to like this movie. I like TOM Cruise. I came away feeling "eh" about the movie. I was more blown away by the 3D and how AWESOME it's gotten. It's 9.1 in orgones.
9.1 is the Rotten Tomatoes average.
Haters gonna hate...

This movie met my high expectations.
Why do What the Flick bash Tom Cruise so much? Why not review a movie starring Tom Cruise without being so negative. Get to the point of the film itself. Jeez.
8.2? It's like you all knew somehow what each was going to rate it. ;)
Tom Cruise dies a lot?
Where's my ticket!
Fandango!

(all four of them give the movie an 8.2)

This is a great movie..go see it folks you won't be disapointed.

A movie that will stress you out and enjoy it at the same time.
Alonso really dating his video game knowledge with that text based game comparison.lol
If age is directly proportional to kg of weight I'd say he's about 150.
contra?
You mean his reference went right over your head?
The movie did pretty terrible in all the territories it opened in last week. Except for Hungary and Croatia but those won't help...
Preeeeety sure the average shown at the end is just a joke on how they all had the same score, and the average was obvious.
Screw that, Emily Blunt needs her a daddy in his 40s or early 50s like all 30 year old chics
The premise of this movie makes me want to stay away. I usually hate time travel and I hate repetition.
Average is a 9.1.
I laughed more than I should have.
getting to see Tom Cruise shot in the head over and over, ok I'm sold.
I can't wait to see this.

Doug Liman for the next Mission Impossible movie

best move I've seen in a long time
can't wait to see it!
Excellent review, l shall go and see this movie .
That Emily is a tasty little English muffin!
as much as I hate Tom Cruise I'm likely to go see this cause it looks alright
I really liked the movie.. 8.5/10
The ending is fine. SAVAGES ending was a copout.
She looks like a young Uma Thurman.
Great sci-fi movie. I will go to see it again.
They have a average of 85 percent the 9.1 is the Rotten Tomatoes.
Looks like a cool movie.
The trailer does not do this movie justice.
Movie was awesome, but really didn't care about any characters or the human race, I was hoping they would all die...
is it just me or these people seem so fake? i like the opinion and all. too many people i would say.
Tom Cruise has the movie star gene, he should be studied in a lab
These people shdnt be reviewing movies. All they did is talk about Tom Cruise and just things that dont relate to the movie like Yoga. Gosh what a waste of my time. Will never subscribe.
You're average didn't look like an 8.2
What the patty?
Tom Cruise is this generation's Charlten Heston. A workable performer but not memorable...
its based on the novel All You Need Is Kill
4/5 from me
Great movie
they suck at reviewing movies so bad...
This is not...
Trailers are THE WORST.
