I loved Edge of Tomorrow. Great story. Such a shame that such a good movie (probably the only good movie of the year) did so badly and lost out to....... transformers.
Odd, if I see "based on true events" that just tells me it's a desperate marketing ploy, because no supernatural film is actually based on true events.
As far as the Edge of Tomorrow love story dealy, I think it made a lot of sense cuz like...Tom Cruise basically spends years of his life talking to and being able to confide in this one person. It's a bond between the two of them that no one else'll ever understand. So like...they're in love and stuff.
Glad to see love for Edge of Tomorrow. I agree with Mike, one of the best movies I've seen in a while. It's a fun summer action movie that doesn't treat me like a moron.
This is my favorite episode of Half in the Bag. That opening sequence is my favorite skit they've done; every joke hits. And you can't beat that ending.
Edge of Tomorrow was heavily based on a manga, All You Need Is Kill, and I highly suggest reading it. It expands upon all the elements that Edge of Tomorrow presented, and almost the entire second half is different. It's very good.
Very entertaining as always...it's a bit weird though to say "how does Doug Liman even know how to block an action scene" when he's been doing almost nothing but action movies ever since he did the first Bourne movie back in 2002. Some of them sucked pretty badly, like Jumper, but he hasn't really done a comedy since Go (which is still probably my favourite movie he's done)

That old lady getting her VCR fixed has an awful lot of books about After Effects. Do you think she produces a lot of videos on her circa 1980 VCR? (She seems to have an interest in World War 2, too.)
That toy at the start made me feel a lot of nostalgia for a toy from my childhood I can't remember but made the same sounds as that one, watching Mike destroy it before I could get a good look at it felt not great
I think the main strength of Edge of Tomorrow was its blend hard science, high concept and regular action. The Jackets are given realistic strengths and limitations, the time travel is explored in sufficient depth, and of course the action sequences are well made. It roughly connects to Asimov's three kinds of science fiction, and it goes to show that science fiction films can do with more variety.
Notice the subtle filmmaking techniques. Jay couldn’t be in the first scene because he was too busy at the Manhole so they shot around him, writing in that he was in the bathroom.
I actually found it to be an improvement over the previous three films. It wasn't great but I enjoyed it which is more than I can say for the other three
transformers 4 has a 15 min scene of discussing Texas statutory rape laws, as the daughters boyfriend is way older then her and keeps informing her father why he's technically allowed to fuck his daughter despite it. the less they say about it the better.
I had that robot toy Mike murdered when I was a kid. I totally forgot about it but as soon as I heard the noise it makes it all came back. So I've come to the conclusion that RedLetterMedia exists solely to make me remember childhood toys, thanks guy!
I saw Deliver Us From Evil in theater, and had the best experience with it. The movie itself was mediocre, but during a scene where the priest touches his crucifix to the head of the possessed man lightning struck the theater at exact moment the crucifix made contact. The whole theater sits around wondering if it was part of the movie, two or three minutes passed before I was certain that wouldn't be included in the final cut.

Tom Cruise was great in Edge of Tomorrow. I don't understand all the hate he gets, yes he is a movie star and plays a similar role the majority of the time but he has been making great films for 3 decades! He's made all the money in the world and he is still EAGER to give his %100 commitment for our entertainment, a lot of the time risking his health in the process... how fucking awesome is that?! Tom Cruise is a treasure, and any movie goer should be thankful.
+Matt Muldoon Agreed. Also, I know someone who worked with him, and she said he was the nicest guy out of any of the movie stars she's worked with. She said he went around to the entire crew chatting with them, making sure no one was left out, and that even after a two week Christmas break while shooting the film when he came back to set he remembered my friend's name, what they had talked about, and the various names of her family members that she had mentioned! She said he was an extremely genuinely nice person. Just recently she was in charge of most of the marketing for MI:5, and after the movie came out to great success he personally emailed her, congratulating and thanking her for specific things she did and how hard she worked. Most mega movie stars would NEVER take the time to do such a thing, and yet he did! I have a lot of respect for Tom Cruise, and I find it very sad that he has such an uphill battle as far as the public liking him goes. Scientology is an awful organization, but he's brainwashed by it too, as well as trapped by the fact that they have binders of everything he's said in the "auditing/therapy" sessions that they record, meaning they have his entire personal life and could release it if he ever left. The fact that he stays should not be held against him, and it's sad that it is. He's a fantastic movie star that works really hard to make good films {he doesn't phone it in, making lazy shit and then picking up the paycheck, like Bruce Willis}, and puts his heart and soul into his career - he really cares. Plus, he's a very good actor - while it's hard for him to escape how distinctive his looks are, he still always manages a good performance, one where you can always see that he cared and put effort into it. I really appreciate him as an actor, and I hope more people start to recognize the rare quality Movie Star that he is.
