It's like that episode where G'Kar explained that we're little more than ants, to some species. The Shadows weren't trying to kill anybody there. It was an accident, because the Earth ships weren't supposed to be in that portion of hyperspace.
The 'we are star-stuff' line is likely a nod to Carl Sagan, who said, "The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.”
I miss him. He brought so much hope to the world.
We do learn something about the Shadows in this episode. They don't require the same navigation systems in hyperspace that everyone else does. They can actually navigate hyperspace without outside help, like beacons.
The Shadow ship was not attacking. If it were, there would be no witnesses.
When the Shadow vessel destroyed Galus' Star Fury in hyperspace it was just an accident. There's no reason to believe that the Shadows were even aware of any Earthforce ships in the area, and they obviously didn't care, which is why they ignored the Cortez and the other Star Furies.
They did ignore them because of two reasons. 1. No earth ship knew anything about them. Yeah there could be people saying they saw a black ship like the Cortezs Captain. But its all tall tales. For a long time no one believed sailors who said they saw a huge wave. It was not tell a few ships got pictures of waves taller then their ships were they believed. 2. The Cortez didnt see the Shadow ship. The Shadows did not want to destroy a massive ship like that for no reason. It would cause people to go out and look for the Cortez, and maybe find something.
There's a restaurant in Banff, Alberta called "The Grizzly House" that serves exotic food. One item on their menu is bagna cauda. It is JUST AS GOOD as Franklin and Garibaldi make it look.
In case you were unaware, the actor who played Jeff Sinclair, Michael O'Hare was written out of the show because he was diagnosed with Schizophrenia and requested to leave the show to seek medical care. A secret that showrunner, J. Michael Straczynski kept until many years later. Only after Mr. O'Hare had passed away did JMS reveal the truth to the fans.
You still have a ways to go to figure out the Shadows...
They didn't attack the Star Fury- they smashed into it like a bug into a windscreen - didn't even notice it
It wasn't an attack it was a collision. I don't know if the shadows even knew they were there. More precisely, the shadows didn't want them to know they knew.
I really enjoy this episode, the mystery that is being set up is just so good, and I just love that Earth has these huge explorer ships that build jumpgates. I love the concept.
As we say here in Texas .... Welcome back, Bubba!!!! Cannot wait to see this program's future unfold before you!
You're so lucky to see this for the first time.
"Nothing can live in hyperspace" ... until CRUSADE.
Good to get back to this.
'The Avalanche has started it's to late for the pebbles to vote'
You missed the point
"Giants in the play ground. We can either stay out their way or be trampled under foot"
The Shadows want to deter exploration in their direction, but no not want to alarm the Terrans. So they thwart the journey but not destroy the ships.
I see your enthusiasm, I love it. You like this episode as much is you do, you just wait! There is a lot more to come.
Be seeing you!
YOU'RE BACK... great I've enjoyed your reactions to my favorite-ish show
Nice to see you back. Love to see some of my favourite shows through the eyes of the next generation. This was one of your better reactions as you were not talking over the dialog as much as you have in the past. Hope you dont mind the bit of positive criticism. Cheers from canada
Welcome back, hope your exams went well. Not sure why it waited 3 days to tell me you had returned.
New ship time. We have the explorer class, 350 crew and over 6km long. Rather large but it's not a combat vessel.
So RUclips knows I want Jones Reactions videos, and will recommend already watched ones day or two before the new onese are actually live, but doesn't have the decency to recommend the new ones once they are live. Thanks RUclips. (I just came from the next episode, which was an immediate click once I saw it.)
In any case, welcome back.
Bagna cauda is an actual Italian recipe, that the Italians have actually created an official recipe of after doing a culinary cultural survey of various regions of their country. My partner, whom I'm introducing the show to, and I are planning on making this at some point. Garibaldi's recipe seems like an Americanized version (it was very popular with Italian immigrants in the Midwest, apparently), given that it calls for butter. It's essentially a savory fondu-like dish, where you melt anchovies into olive oil and cook it into a sauce. It's served with bread and veggies which are then dipped into it.
The alien ship didn't notice them.
This series has so many great and memorable quotes .
Glad you are back, and hope your end of term went well for you. We are now in a set of episodes which sort of add to elements to the background, and as such, are not considered by many as the best of the series, but of course, different people have different reactions. The great ones, though, most all agree when they come.
So glad to see you back mate! I was getting worried about you.
All is well, finished exams now so the reactions are coming back in full force!!
@@JonesReactions Can't wait! I'm LOVING your enthusiastic and positive reactions to my favourite TV show! There is another podcast (which I will not name) where the two negative reviewers spent the first two seasons hating the show. I was starting to wonder why they bothered. So, thank you for giving us a fun and positive reaction. I have to say (and of course, no spoilers), if you're enjoying the show now, your head will be exploding further down the track!!!
Seems like an appropriate expression in the thumbnail for this episode....
Haha absolutely! Although I must confess that expressions is not from this episode but from 2x11! I lied!
wow long time between drinks almost forgot about you
Sheridan's the distant star.
The diet subplot has some funny lines and moments, but considering that all 3 actors are a healthy weight it really seems like classic 90s eating disorder fodder.
It reminded me of the diet card change that Bones did to Kirk in The Corbomite Manoeuvre
to give you a machete to youre intellectual thicket. Do you bother crushing each ant you come across?
Don't watch the trailer for the new movie, which looks great, as it has major spoilers in it.
Yeah don't worry I'm not going to watch it, seems its getting quite a lot of hype - must look good!
Just wait until seasons 3 and 4, Babylon5 is a slow burn, but the payoff is huge.
