The Psi Corp commercial is my favorite part of this episode, but there are many other interesting elements to it.

It was cut in at the end of a commercial break too so there was a moment of "is this part of the show" confusion when it first aired.

I think the previous 'almost' attack by the Vorlon Empire may be referencing the eents in the very first movie/episode "The Gathering" and what happened to the Vorlon Ambassador.

This episode almost got banned for Subliminal text in Europe, so JMS had to leave just enough frames of the text in place to avoid the minimum time on screen in order to get it past broadcast rules.

"And now for a word from our sponsor..." was a phrase commonly used in the old days of broadcast television when a program would switch to a commercial advertisement. And who is the sponsor here? 😎

This episode is sneaky one. On a first watch many brush it off like a cool idea, as the people at B5FTFT said: a clip show without a clip show. But in my opinion it is more than that. It adds more to each character, because they're put into an uncomfortable situation, and how they react, what they tell and say. And this is the first time we as viewers become part of the station as part of an ISN broadcast. Getting more insight into the ISN as well, and several moments of propaganda from Earth.
P.S. I burst out laughing when you saw the subliminal message. Every time, never fails.

Babylon 5: The Gathering Was the test pilot movie. That's where the mention of the Vorlon attack almost happened.

The barely averted attack by the Vorlon empire was the pilot episode.

The title of the episode is, probably intentionally, reminiscent of the way that American television and radio programs of an earlier era, which were paid for by commercial companies and often closely linked to those sponsors, would break to commercials with the specific wording, "And now for a word from our sponsors." In this case, the commercial is for PsiCorps.

Funny thing about the battle between Narn G´Quan Heavy Cruiser and Centauri Primus-class Battlecruiser. G´Quan was specifically designed to stand up to Primus. Primus are the ships that Centauri used to conquer the galaxy 300-400 years ago and are still in service because they can carry fighters. They updated their weapon systems, but the cost of putting in new reactors into the existing superstructure makes it prohibitively expensive to do it fleet wide. So they have various new overpowered weapons for may situations installed on old under-armored hull as glass cannon weapons platform, that they can only use one at the time. All of them are basically museum pieces, new ones are not being built because it costs same to build one Primus as four newer Vorchan Class cruisers, that do not carry fighters, but have serious armor, are fast and agile and three ships have same theoretical damage output as one Primus. So basically buy three get one extra.
Add to this that Narn tech is reverse engineered Centauri tech and this fight was basically new kid on the block beat up his granddady and was unable to even limp away. Londo is right when he says Narns picked every fight and if Emperor did not hold them back they would have responded sooner. G´Kar is right that the Centauri strip mined Narn home world which was considered a jewel of Centauri Republic when discovered and brutally enslaved Narns. But it takes a special kind of stupid to keep provoking someone who you know will curb stomp you and gleefully doing it anyway. Narns counted on Centauri not being liked in the Galaxy and they when they show them as weak others will join in and help them, but once war started everyone was quickly reminded that Centauri War machine is third most advanced among known races after Vorlons and Minbari. No one was willing to stick their necks out for Narns who themselves were expanding in all directions regardless of any treaties or morals as long as they could get away with it from position of strength, even against other races apart from Centauri.
It is all good and correct to say that Shadows pushed the events so the war started, but it would have happened anyway. With Narns pushing as they have been the moment they showed up anywhere close to Centauri Prime even Emperor would not be able to hold back the nobles who captain the Centauri military vessels from defending their home. The show wants us to feel sympathy with Narns because Centauri are dirty fighters, but they are only facing consequences of their own actions of the last 100 years. Remember how G´Kar was shouting at Molari in first season that Narns will destroy his homeworld and make flutes out of his bones? There is a line between just retribution and cruel expansionism and Narns crossed it eagerly. Just because Centauri are also cruel expansionists does not excuse the behavior of Narns and I can´t stand bullies. So I am not feeling sympathy for Narn government that lets civilians starve so they can use the resources to expand their military during peace time and attacks lightly defended civilian targets instead of military outposts and calls it just. At least Centauri government are sending overwhelming forces to fight military forces, because they are looking for a fight. That noble houses treat non-centauri as slaves once they are conquered means I do not have a favorite in this war, but I simply do not understand people who are capable of watching this show and see all nuances of Vorlon, Minbari or human politics, but will claim passionately that Narns are innocent victims of foreign aggression. They were that three hundred years ago. Not anymore, we all have to face consequences of our actions.

I hate to tell you this but the hanger status of the Centari Primus is ambiguous.
The Official Guide to Babylon 5 CD ROM states that the ship has no hangers. Also they are never seen launching anything in the show.
The apocryphal sources (Babylon 5 wars, Babylon 5 roleplaying game, Babylon 5: A Call to Arms) give different capacities (12/24 Sentri medium fighters and 0/2 shuttles).
The thing is, I've heard but can't confirm that JMS stated that the ships created for the Babylon 5: A Call to Arms tabletop game are canon. Not sure if this would include modifications to existing ships or not. Only JMS knows. And anyone he told.

When this episode came out in 1995, it was after a three week hiatus in new episodes. Ironically it was the 36th episode and it was a reintroduction to the series after that brief break. They covered 36 hours on ISN, didn't they? Coincidence, with JMS I doubt it.
