"You have what they call a negative personality"
"No I don't"
"There, you see?"
🤣
Another great reaction vid! I laughed out when you started to talk about B4. What a prediction 🤣🤣
Cool thing about the starfury, the design is so realistic apparently that NASA adopted the design for a conceptual "space tractor" like craft (a utility craft, for moving equipment and cargo around in micro gravity). Never built (at least not yet), but it is in NASA's records.
The only condition of JMS is that if and when NASA developed this vessel, it would be called a Starfury. But afaik NASA scrubbed the idea.
@@PetrosmanBecause they did not like the name?
@sebastianwittmeier1274 haha, no, NASA just aren't going to construct this spaceship right now, they don't have the need for it.
@@Petrosman funny coincidence, saw your 1 year old comments with Medusa cascade just now when you commented.
@@jayburn00 haha
Pity poor Larry DiTillio. He gets this one after In The Shadow of Z'Ha'Dum, he gets GROPOS after The Coming of Shadows, and he gets TKO after Signs and Portents.
JMS: the next episode is going to seem anticlimactic. I think I'll let my old friend Larry take the hit.
Better than The Expanse? Maybe, but you have even gotten to the best stuff yet. Season 3 and especially 4, is where it's at. You're gonna love it! Season 2 finale is pretty amazing too.
I think ultimately B5 feels more chewy and satisfying than The Expanse, IMO, which looks more up to date but tends to plod a bit at times, like most serialised streaming shows seem to.
I really like Expanse, but the fact that it doesn't have a complete story spoils it for me. I have the same problem with the books, although they are generally great.
@@simongiles9749 Yeah, I'll give it to B5, over The Expanse. There are so many story lines, that even if you don't like one, the others pick up the slack. The Expanse pretty much had the protomolecule and Marco Inaros. And Marco had too much plot armor, for my liking.
Season 2 finale is "a big jump" .... but season 3 finale is an even bigger "jump" ...
If you're interested in checking out some classic science fiction books, Andre Norton was one of the first big female sci-fi authors and her "Forerunners" influenced so much, from other writers books, to Star Trek and I'm sure Babylon 5. The Forerunners were a VERY ancient race that actually spread life across the Galaxy and left incredibly powerful artifacts that are found by humans and other races.
Not an episode that lands super high on a lot of fan’s lists. But I’ve always liked this one. The Sheridan storyline reminding us that there’s lots of stuff out there we don’t understand while the Londo storyline keeps us grounded as the consequences to his actions begin to manifest. A solid 7/10 episode for me.
Lists are dumb, people are dumb.
it does show Centauri culture/history...so interesting.
Lots of magic of the human brain and trauma.
I think this was meant to air *before* _In the Shadow of Z'ha'dum._ *John* has a vision of the _Icarus_ exploding, but this is after he learned that it didn't.
Back when this was first airing in the 90s, I was reading every little thing I could get my hands on about *Babylon 5.* There were even a few unofficial, but terrific and high quality, trivia guides in paperback. It's been quite a while since then, but if memory serves, I believe they confirm my statement above. But, it has been quite a while, so there's a chance I could be mistaken. 🤷🏼♂️
The *Londo* part of this episode is one of my favorites of the entire run.
17:40 _"What did he do to be a traitor?"_
Nothing. As you likely surmised, *Urza* wasn't a traitor. He likely speaks out against the war mongering and deceptive things going on Centauri Prime.
Great observation about *Urza* being one of the more genuine characters.
Originally Knives was supposed to air before ItSoZ so that the Icarus exploding and the mention of Anna in Knives brings back that thread which pays off in ItSoZ. Unfortunately, they had to be switched so the Icarus scene here doesn't carry the same weight knowing what we know from ItSoZ.
The other benefit of putting Knives first is that you get a run of six very solid episodes to close out the season, and increase the run of JMS episodes by one.
B5 helped developed tv , and the Expanse likely would not have been without B5.
Yep - I love how people talk about binge TV these days like it's a new thing. B5 was narrative ongoing storytelling binge TV before we could even binge it.
I really like this episode, shows what Londo's decisions have done and now the blood on his hands is also that of his friends. Carmen Argenziano did a great job.
I like how Garibaldi can't pronounce the name but Franklin just reads it out.
That's medical staff for you.
Oh, yes, we really *love* Lord Refa, don't we ?
Londo did exactly what was needed.
The Sheridan part was okay, even if we have seen something like that before.
Agreed, an okay episode.
Be seeing you!
I love B5 and The Expanse equally. But when it comes time to watching reruns.... I always lean to B5
"Chioshnay"
"Gesundheit"
You're so Young... good on you
I say this a lot, but Babylon 5 is some of the best sci-fi ever made.
No spoilers for other shows please...
Not one of my favorites, it is notable for one thing- it is effectively the last episode not written by JMS for the rest of the show (minus one in the 5th season)
One continuity error has bugged me for quite some time- at the end of the duel- Londo is disarmed, and his sword flew off to his left. But immediately after, he has the sword in his hand ......
Za-ha-doom please not Za-ha-dumb
Has it been confirmed to be inspired by Khazad Doom(Dum) from LOTR?
JMS is a huge Tolkien fan, and there are numerous parallels between LotR and B5. So do we really need any confirmation?
You can't stop now can you? Told you Sheridan would be your new favourite character 😏
Londo and Vir, or rather Peter Jurrasic and Stephen Furst were so happy after the opera scene because neither of them are singers. They butchered many takes before getting this usable one.
They were very close in real life and their friendship and chemistry comes through wonderfully here.
I disagree with Jado on one thing. He says "you cannot build an empire based on slaughter and deceit". But unfortunately that's the only way to build an empire. Empires are evil.
Yes.
But for people whose grandfathers still fought for empires, it is quite difficult and unpleasant to realise.
LOL I love how you keep mispronouncing "Z'Ha'Dum" despite it being pronounced properly onscreen every time :)
He’s killin me
