While it's not on my favorites list of Babylon 5 episodes, this one does feature the amazing Dwight Schultz, who's made a career out of topsy-turvy characters (perhaps most memorably as "Howling Mad" Murdock from The A-Team and Barclay from Star Trek). And once again, G'Kar's holy book is show to be both a spiritual text _and_ a historical one, and especially important for the events that are currently playing out.
...and then there's Franklin being a creeper on a patient. "Yeah, I'll take her to my quarters instead of MedLab because it's, uh, _closer._ I see no ethical issues with this." And she was _just widowed,_ too!

It's great to see your enjoyment and your enthusiasm. The plot of the series main story arc thickens only slightly, yes, and this is mostly a stand-alone episode, yes, but besides Dwight Schultz great performance (as per his usual), I like the message this episode carries about the PTSD of war veterans and how easy it is to dismiss someone who suffers from it as a simple loony if you don't know any better. It tells us how we shouldn't be judging people too quickly or based solely on their appearance or behaviour. Being open minded and understanding is always a better choice, as Garibaldi demonstrates.

Happy to see you’re back. Congrats on the Braces. The name is awesome cause of what it implies. If you are down you need to watch “A long kiss goodnight” best action film.

It's a fun episode, but they get better. I understand liking Sinclair more than Sheridan, but there are good things ahead. Sheridan really comes into his own in late S2 and is awesome in S3 - S5. Cheers. See you on the next one.

This is one which is usually put low on B5 episode lists, which is not to say there is nothing of value in it. But as things go, there are many great things to come!

I like the ending scene with G'Kar having that thing in his old holy book. And it does help to set up that something weird is going on at the Rim.

The Centauri gave jump gate tech as they were the earliest contact. The centaui system is among the closest stars to earth at 4 light years plus a little, depending on the star Alpha, Beta and Proxima are a part of one system including the closest. Just a few other stars are in the same range as the system as a whole but none closer. After we gain FTL travel longer range contacts is possible but if we were to try to get anyplace just within 10 light years now it likely would be a generational trip to these closest of stars. It would take years to even get to a speed a tenth of lightspeed and just as long to slow back down using ion or nuclear driven drives. Some form of FTL cheat is required for most scifi, hyperspace gates is using a space that cuts the real distance traveled. Wormholes, Warping or Foulding space and dimensional shifting are the other popular ones with some base in science. Without FTL you would die in space to plant your grandchildren in another system or resort to some kind of stasis to make such trips.

The Shadows don’t just kill indiscriminately… they have their reasons for what they do and I can’t say more than that without spoiling things
What happened in the last episode was akin to G’Kar’s metaphor about giants and ants… we are ants. They didn’t attack our people, they barely noticed them and the effect they had on them

Glad you enjoyed, though overall it's not well thought of amongst most fans.
Fun really kicks off in a few more episodes

Yes, Dr. Franklin was out of line.
Good to see you enjoy this old story.
    Be seeing you.

If Franklin was out of line, he would have never backed away. But he DID. This determination to label him as a sexual predator by certain fans is becoming tiresome.

I usually skip this one. Like all mysteries, once the big secret is revealed it's just not the same anymore.
I remember being disappointed with this episode the first time around.

The Shadows could of destroyed the explorer ship and the fighter,
but even perceived bad guys pick targets and don't just shoot anything and everything,
plus the Shadows would be more likely to infiltrate or spy on a explorer ship I would think.
This episode is a bit weak for me, I don't like some of the acting, it's not that bad, better episodes to come for sure.

I'll agree that B5 is superior to Galactica, but that doesn't deny the value of BSG.
Galactica is a great show on it's own right. If you are feeling spoiled because of B5, I'd advise you to pause watching BSG, let some time build between the series and give it a second chance. You should find it much more interesting then.
Other shows you might want to try, if you don't know them, are Farscape, TheOrville and Stargate SG-1. There are others, of course, but Farscape, in particular, is often ignored. The others, not so much, but still might have flown under your radar.

Although I liked BSG, there are two main differences between it and B5 that make B5 more to my taste. In BSG, everyone is All The Angry, All The Time. Very little space for levity- granted it is an existentialist crisis in SF form, but even a bit of gallows humour would be nice to provide some contrast. And B5 knows where it is going from Day 1 (despite some road bumps along the way it largely gets to its destination intact) while BSG plainly only knows within each season (and sometimes it doesn't even feel like that).

@@simongiles9749 There's SOME humor in BSG. Very little, and very subdued, but it's there. Usually in Adama and TIgh bantering.
For example, in 1x01, "33", there's this dry scene in wehich Tigh is eating Adam's noodles and he asks"are you eating this?" tio which Adama replies"not anymore". Not exaxtly National Lampoon moment, but some levity there. Baltar also has some moments of dry humor.
But Ron D Moore did comment that the theme - humanity hanging by a thread, doing some pretty ghastly things just ot stay alive - doesn't exactly lends to comedy, no matter how hard the writers tried to put in there.
The planning thing, though, is spot on. B6 had a roadmap that they followed masterfully. BSG, for all the good qualities on that showe, lacked that particular ingredient.
