Did you notice that, at the end of the episode, Talia remembers two things she picked up from Abel's mind: his death scene, which we had already been shown, and that dark hair woman standing next to a surgeon. And did you notice that this dark hair woman was wearing a Psi Cop uniform?

At one point Horn says, "the sands of Mars will run red with Earther blood" which is the line quoted by the ISN journalist when Mars tried to rebel last year during the episode 'A Voice in the Wilderness'

You have it wrong. Spiders are not trapped in a web, they live in the web and trap others!
A spider in the web is a predator.

A little detail a podcast noticed is, that Horn in the end fired a shot but did so over the heads of the security guards. He didn´t want to kill anyone, he just wanted them to kill him, for good this time.

Suicide by Cop. This is actually a good explanation (especially as he says "Thank you for ending it"), better than Horne just being a lousy shot for the sake of plot, like re-edit Greedo.

The thing about webs and spiders: they're often bigger than they appear and connect more than you expect they, while the spider doesn't want to be seen until it's too late.
If you're referring to the painting int he background as being like the expanse: both the Behemoth and Babylon 5 mimic gravity via the centrifugal force. I'm fairly certain The Expanse drew inspiration from Babylon 5, but the concept of this sort of station/ship has been used for a long time, including by Isaac Asimov. I'm not sure who first thought it up, but it's also a common question scenario given to intro physics students.

    • @Petrosman
      @Petrosman Год назад +1

      That's not a painting, that's a "window" but yes, that's exactly it. A centrifugal station/spaceship.

Physicist Gerard K. O'Niell used the concept in a book in the 70's. B5 is categorised as an O'Niell class, though B4 is closer as it has contra-rotating cylinders like the original concept.

The metaphor of a spider in the web is suggestive of Sherlock Holmes when he described Professor Moriarty in Doyle's "The Final Problem" (you haven't read Sherlock Holmes? What is _wrong_ with kids today?):
“He is the Napoleon of crime, Watson. He is the organizer of half that is evil and of nearly all that is undetected in this great city, He is a genius, a philosopher, an abstract thinker. He has a brain of the first order. He sits motionless, like a spider in the center of its web, but that web has a thousand radiations, and he knows well every quiver of each of them. He does little himself. He only plans.”

The nice thing about these scenes between Jerry Doyle and Andrea Thompson, is that at the time they were married. So these "romantic" scenes between the characters are a little nod to that.
We found out a lot about Earth and Mars stuff in this episode. We have some sort of Psi Corps secret project happening, we have a Free Mars group, we've heard about them before. Just a fun episode overall. JMS was always inspired with the different scifi tropes from early 20th century scifi writers. And this feels like a story right from one of those books, but I just can't remember which one.
P.S. the actor that played Abel Horn is brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

Taro is played by the same actor who was the top guy at the Nakatomi Tower in the movie "Die Hard", who Alan Rickman kills. Seems to be a pattern with this guy :)

    Hi Jones.
Can I ask is Sheridan starting to grow on you yet?
When I first watched this series it took me a while to get over Sinclair but eventually Sheridan became the man for me.
About Warren Keffer. I believe it was pressure from the network who wanted an ace fighter pilot as a character that led to the introduction of Keffer although JMS really didn't want to have such a character.
Hence Warren Keffer doesn't really gey many episodes where he's central to the plot. Although he does play an important role towards the end of this series but I don't want to give spoilers away.

Really enjoying the reactions, keep up the good work. Just to let you know not everything has to connect to the Shadows. When they showed up in the Explorer Ship episode it was a random event, I don’t think they cared about the ship at all they just happened to fly by and kill the other pilot. Don’t get me wrong they do connect to a few things but not everything that happens in the show.
