I purchased a double edged pikal from Lion Hearted Knives out of South Africa. The blade is made of 1095 and stays razor sharp. It is definately a purpose driven blade and has been on my side daily for about a year. An amazing blade and an amazing company to feal with (Leonard is always quick to answer emails).
Thought this was a stupid idea for a long time but lately training with knife + handgun it makes so much more sense to me as a secondary tool. We're not standing in the streets dueling with our blades. Blade length is no longer important.
I agree up to a limit. I live in Oregon so I can carry a rather large knife. But I more often than not carry a tops camp creek. Certain knives aren't too small per say, but my lifestyle off-grid makes me lean towards slightly bigger blades. My small knife of choice is a white river m1 pro. It's actually an incredible little knife.
In addition to the efficacy of these blades lies the craftsmanship the maker/designer put into each knife. A bit of heart and soul lies within. Wondering if double Pikal knives (one in each hand) were practiced and/or used ...and if there are "trainers" made like there is for the Yojimbo.
Would you consider the anomaly to be a recommendable entry into pikal style knives despite the sheath being imperfect? It'd thinness and weight are very tempting. Also have you seen the bastinelli dopamine? It's a very interesting piece and I'm curious on it's applications with its shape and ergos. Thank you for all the great videos!
Thanks for watching! Personally I like fixed blades that give me something to hang on to so I'm not big on extremely thin knives without handle slabs but that's just how they fit me. Give the new Tops Pionero a look. Not a hooked blade but it will function in either point up or point down grip and was designed by Ed Calderone, the modern point down blade master. 👍🗡️
Wow, very nice knives and review about these items 👍🏻👍🏻 P.S. you've also got logical knowledge from the martial arts background, nice to know this too.
Great video & knowledge! Not sure if I’m not seeing it or perhaps you didn’t get to it yet, but by chance did you do the pikal folder video yet? Thank you
Not yet! Thanks for the reminder! I believe I can put a half dozen of those together at this point but when I did this video not too many folders which fell into that category... Stay tuned! 👍🗡️👊
Interesting video! You discussed some of your training experience, and it makes sense that such training is key. I didn't find any of your past videos that looked like they'd give direct guidance on training. Any tips on what training is most practical for fighting with a knife (not necessarily Pikal)? Or even where to start in understanding the answer to that question? Maybe a forum or some other youtube creator? Thanks!
Tuhon Bill McGrath is a very good resource on Filipino Martial Arts, as is Doug Marcaida. My purpose on this channel is strictly blade reviews for the moment. They are an offshoot of my lifelong interest in multiple martial arts. Many thanks for your interest and for viewing! 👍🗡️👊
@@OGBladeReviews Thanks for the quick reply! So, I assume that means that you recommend Filipino martial arts for training? Or are there other schools of training you'd also suggest?
I'm a big fan of pikal blades. But forreal though I really think it's a blade style that is still kind of niche because of its use. I'd love to see more affordable options cause as of right now, I feel like the Tops unzipper is the best pikal fixed blade for the money.
You should never hold back talking about your Martial arts experience it makes my interest in the knife higher! Plus all the little details you talk about with your experience helps me judge whether that knife is right for me or not. Plus anyone watching your reviews all the way through of a tactical knife it's for sure that they're at least interested in if not experienced in the martial arts..✌️🗡️🤺🥋

I also got the pikal from Lion Hearted (plus the trainer). Amazing knife
Always love the knowledge and the different blades you have to show us.
More to come!

Right! There are no stupid ideas, only misused good ones... 👍🗡️👍

Awesome selection! Great video 👍
Excellent video ... love the pikal style. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching, Edwin! 👊🗡️👍
Like the series. Maybe you can do other tactics and the blade associated with them. Thanks for sharing!
Great video! Thanks for making this!
Glad you liked it!

Yes, double-pikal is certainly a thing! 👊🗡️👍

For me the tops unzipper may be a bit too "bluntish" for my use. 🗡️👊🗡️
I got a spyderco reverse before they were discontinued
For just self defense look at shivworks clinch pick 2
If the unzipper was double edge it would've been better. I got rid of mine
I tried to like these pikal style but I just can't. If I want an inward facing edge, I'll just carry a double edge dagger.

Kyokoshin karate, ouch does it still hurt😮
Kyokushin BB in '69 😊👊😊
Price on the fouble edge? Expensive?
Check with Dirk @pinkertonknives on Instagram. Custom knife prices always vary, since no standard models, but this one probably around two-fifty.

Pikal style the best in real Life..... With ring Is Better
