Used to look up to Striders like well designed American-style blades. Then I saw that they lack the forprene handle ergonomics of Extrema Ratio, the folders have metal on one side, plastic on another, lockup is not so perfect I hear, and you get just as good knives from FKMD.. Designs are nice by Strider, but look not as useful when compared to real use handles made of micarta, forprene, rubber, whatever. So all in all Striders could be strong knives, but are they useful?
I guess I would have to ask what do you mean by useful? I’ve never had an issue and if you look back, you’ll see where I even split an iPhone in half with a Strider fixed blade. If you mean bushcraft comfort, these are definitely not that. These knives have their roots in the field being used by the armed forces.

@@Alumapro23 Hi! Thx for the info. Yeah, I mean when you look at the overall design and everything, do they live up to the name, or are they macho designs, for macho soldiers, but may lack field functionality compared to other knives...
So there's a thing on monkeyedge.com and it's called Grips: Strider Fixed Blades (Small) - Monkey Edge FRAG Pattern....is this just for the grips or for the whole knife itself..I'm about to pull the trigger on it but need to know this isn't just for grips..
Hey man I just got a DB-L tanto in PSF27 for a pretty decent secondary price about $340 after PayPal fees. What's your opinion on Striders use of that steel and how does the velcro loop work for carrying?
Fatboy_ edc good deal. PSF27 is just like next level D2. I have an SMF in it. The first edge went dull fairly quickly, but the edge I put in did well. Strider uses Peter’s and each steel is treated to bring out its individual properties. I haven’t used any of their steel that hasn’t been solid. I know one guy that says he thinks is s30v (if I remember right) is soft and won’t hold an edge. He sent me the screenshot of what Josh sent to him. Josh said to send it in, they’d HRc it and all that. If it was a dud, they’d replace the blade. Can’t really ask for more than that. I’ve never used the loop so I couldn’t comment on that. I like Ulti-clips. Great little gadgets that work on a lot of different things. The Ulti-clip also lets me carry the knife inside of my pocket. That’s my preferred way to carry. I don’t like to draw extra attention to myself, if I can help it.
@@Alumapro23 Thanks for the info on the steel I had heard it was like a more stainless version of D2. I might order a soft loop for it I have another fixed blade by tactical pterodactyl that rides well scout style/horizontal at the belt line but it doesn't look as tall as the DB-L.
Fatboy_ edc I wouldn’t say that. The grain pattern has been refined even further. It’s just an generational process change, not a new chemical compound. Tactical is a good dude. He’s from around my way too.
@@Alumapro23 He makes some great knives for a good price. I had heard PSF27 had slightly more chromium in it making it finer grained but upped the corrosion resistance a tad too.
Fatboy_ edc Yes, sir. I’m not a steel nerd like some of my buddies, but adding chromium doesn’t make the grain structure finer, the way the steel is processed does (this being spray formed) and even if chromium is added, it has to be pulled out of solution to be effective in adding any corrosion resistance and a small amount doesn’t necessarily do a whole bunch. Especially if it is still in the matrix and not “locked up” so to speak. FWIW, D2 is already basically stainless. It’s right on the boarder line when you are talking chromium content.
YoungBeezy The dub looked cool. The DB was the first Strider fixed blade I held and I was very impressed. Fits the hand like a glove, but it’s the literal definition of a pry bar. The grind is pretty thick and the blade is pretty short. If I got one, it’d be the DB-L. I do love my SA and SA-L though.
Alc we need more Strider content! Even if it's just recap of old stuff with new impressions! You make the best Strider videos on all of RUclips.
I wish I could just find an old fixed blade Buck Strider some day. Good upload!
plejaren giants That’d be a nice score. Thanks for the kind words, sir 👊
