- See an amazing gem with over two hundred facets being cut. This gem was the chosen by viewers and subscribers as a special design for me to facet. The name of the design is called the "WHIRLPOOL". No wonder why, as the gem appears to have a vortex inside of it. This particular gem is "Citrine" which I found in a creek in Southern Australia. The faceting machine used in this video is called a "FACETSTAR", made in Melbourne Australia, and I am an Aussie Gem Cutter. Please like and subscribe. Thank you for watching.
I gave a thumbs up to counteract the troll. I would like to give an extra thumbs up for your pup.
The final reveal is simply adorable speaks volume of dedication, commitment and perseverance you have put in to acquire these splendid skills.
Cliff you are a real mastero.
Glad to see Jaws helping again!
Sorry mate, I was one of the requests for this stone. So much work but it's incredibly beautiful. Well done and thank you. Ps, Jaws is gorgeous.
Thank you Kerry. This gem is certainly unique.
I agree with you, I'm also loving that vortex look within the stone. Beautiful cut! Thank you for sharing your video's and amazing work!
Cliff all I can say is beyond beautiful!!! The color just pops!! Looks like a vortex of sparkling fire. Stunning!!
Thanks Imari2305. Yes this was quite a amazing gem. So unique.
Nice job, I can see the whirlpool effect.
Thank you for YET another wonderful show and you are a very talented artist!!!! Great job!!! Many thanks😀😁😀😁😀😁😀😁😀😁😀😁😀😁😀😁😀😁😁😀😀😁😁😀😁😀😁😀😁😘😘😘😍😎😎😎😎😎😎🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗bye!!!!! SuzanneSchube
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you
Thank you for that beautiful work and thanks for sharing. I have written in the past too. I want to know more about cutting gems. As a practical tutorial, I suggest that you could film a project in greater detail, say with only 8 facets in one round. You could explain, in detail, all the settings on your grinding machine. Sort of from design to grinding machine to finished jewel. Think about it. As always thank you.
One day I can do that. If you look at more of my videos you see so many different aspects to faceting. This video highlight some tips never revealed in other videos. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful and very interesting!
That's a amazing design
Thanks Brandon.
Oh my.... it is so beautiful! That cut certainly showcases the gem's clarity. The design just draws the eye in.
Thanks Katzztar
That's an absolut beauty and a very nice cut. Well done.
Thanks Eduard .
Beautiful result.
I appreciate the thoroughness of your faceting and videos
Thanks Paul. Now I have to find another project.
Wow Spot on faceting ,, Sorry I also ask for this whirlpool cut but it is sooo worth it truly eye catching gem stone , Im not a cutter myself but really liked your ink pen idea, your man Jaws is going to be a happy healthy pup all winter
Hi Ray, I thought the Whirlpool would have be easier, but not so. However, the result was worth it.
That is a beautiful cut and stone
Thanks Ernest.
Most excellent job - this is a very advanced and difficult design to cut.
Thanks John.
Thanks for all the work associated with you videos. I was inspired to purchase a faceting machine and have discovered that it requires an adjustment in perception to successfully facet a gemstone. Precision is king and polish is queen and nothing else will suffice. This latest video illustrates this. The other thing that is amazing and frustrating is that the faceting diagrams are made seemingly by folks who have no interest in people using their diagrams. They start off on obscure points and further that idiocy to make it harder to "do the math" when in actuality it is relative straightforward. I appreciate that you started off on a logical index point and showed the relationship from one row to another. Hmm, comment getting long winded. Thanks again.
Faceting is a subtracting art form. The index and angles are not difficult to understand. It all about understanding the type of gem you cut and relying on your own ability not to mess up. Also, to be able adjust/resolve and re correct if the gem starts to have issues. And many issues can occur during the process.
Great job, very beautiful this cut
Thank you
Wow!
I laughed more than reasonable when introducing the thumb-down guy !
They make my day Oliver. Thanks for watching.
Nice and good explained video. Very well done mate., 😊😊😊
Stunning. Beautiful work!
Thank you very much!
You never cease to amaze with what you can turn each gems into. Another beauty... PLUS, thank you for showing how you removed the gem from the stick. I always wondered about that. 🤔
Go get that troll, Jaws! 🏃🏻♂️🐩 Lol
All the best to you and your family!
Thanks Tori. This was a difficult design, but result was more than I anticipated.
Cliff that's true art
Thanks Grant...
Great job cliff, that is a beautiful cut.
Exquisite gem. Thank you for all your good work.
Thanks chris.
My favorite thing to see you do is facet gems which you have found. When you turn some piece of stone you found in a creek bed into a valuable gem.
good job as usually! I did this cut on emerald and it looks very good, especially when the stone is light. thanks for your video!
Loving stumbling onto this video cliff
Not everyone has talents like you. This is absolutely perfect I've ever seen. Thank you for sharing
Wow that's amazing,
pretty cool!
Thank you.
Thank you for süper video
Thanks
THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL
OMG....there are NO words for the beauty of this gem and of your talent! I'm in AWE!❤💎❤💎❤💎
that is badass dude wow thanks for the video
That rough little turd of a rock turned out fabulous ! WOW ! The color really improved with your choice of cut. Keep up the good work & thanks for the tip on polishing the girdle first. I screwed up a tourmaline last week by polishing the girdle last. It chipped a corner. It is now in my "box of shame" lol
Perhaps thumbs down trolly is a mineral specimen enthusiast ? Don't worry, trollolio ! We keep the specimens & cut the rest ; ^ )
Thank you Cliff and Jaws. I am a new faceter and enjoy your videos as I have commented before. Thank you for the reply by the way on earlier comments I made on your videos..
One of the many reasons I enjoy your videos is because there is no gauge you are relying on to tell you when to stop cutting as is used with facetrons. You use experience and skill to tell you when to stop. I have an old rebuilt Lee machine ( an American brand I believe) and when classes start again with my mentor I will have the opportunity to use a rebuilt Graves machine. The other students will be using the facetrons. I made this a request to my mentor because both my Lee and the Graves do not have nor rely on that gauge.
I want to get really good and pursue this creative passion full time.
On a side note I am awaiting surgery on both my hands for carple tunnel syndrome so I am spending my time organizing my shop area and educating my self.
A question I have is do you have an organization method you use for your rough? I really like your Aussie built machine by the way. Also I noticed how you have your laps stored for easy use. What are your shop practices before you actually start cutting?
Thank you again for sharing your adventures in faceting and collecting rough here on RUclips.
Hi Tam, Firstly good luck with surgery. I have no organisation method for the rough, apart from all the rough is put in separate plastic envelops labeled with the name of gem, it's origin and carat weight. As for my work area, I always keep it clean to avoid contamination. I always clean my machine before starting a new project ie- (clean the mast). Keep discs clean etc. I have noticed a few other faceting channels where everything is filthy. Tidy habits will result in gems not being scratched while faceting due to contamination. Most faceting machines have a height indicator on the height adjuster. Usually one full rotation down is 1mm. I have markers on mine. I don't even bother with that either. I look at the gem not the height adjuster. Makes no sense using a depth gauge except for the first initial facets cutting to a center point. And even then it would be a waste of time.
Cliff, this was the most difficult cut you've done yet. Oh. My. Goodness. Wonderful video, and thank you so much. Kisses to Jaws!
Well done! Love seeing these unique facets!
Thanks...
Spectacular! My second favorite video so far!!!
Thanks Tyler.
Stunning... I am a geneticist however, if I could change careers it would be to gem cutting. I love your videos! Thank you for sharing them with the world.
Thanks Sheri....No reason why can't learn faceting as a hobby.
Very delicate work there, and the result was well worth it. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Kathy.
Two Milk Bones for your assistant! Troll flavored!
Haha....Troll flavored bones.
Uses super glue + baking soda tô instant cement, I learn this after losted hours use dop wax and the Stone brake. Try to put the finalized gem glued on a freezer, the mineral contract more than epoxy. I'm from Brazil, here no one have a Nice work on faceting like you have.
Yupp..worth a lots to see this citrine were faceted as per my previous choice..I chose this citrine because I really want to see this kind of faceted pattern final review..i think topaz will be more stunning with this pattern because topaz more hi-luster..but this citrine also really beautiful for it color..
It would have to be a huge piece of Topaz rough.
Haha!! Just started watching but the way you introduced the thumbs down troll 😂🤣 you did that so well man. I’ve got at least three of them that are consistent within the day of posting.
Just sayin I love your vids and seeeing your love for what you do.
My goodness mate! You have such a talent! That’s just gorgeous!
Thanks RR....Sometimes the thumbs down troll turns up in hours, if not minutes. They make for great RUclips Entertainment. I have been watching some of your vids lately. Loved the light translucent piece in you latest vid. Cheers
👏👏👏WOW! That’s brilliant. You’re so very talented. I am literally “glued” to the screen watching you work. Bravo! Cheers! & good wishes from the USA
Thanks Stephanie. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Bravo! Good on ye, Mate! I really and truly like this gem. Were I you, I'd be inclined to keep it, but then that would not make you any money, would it? Perhaps you should make a pendant out of it for the wife.
Yes my wife want's in a pendent...Cheers
Quá tuyệt vời!!!🥰
I count also on the prepolish That is a ripper Cliff!
Thank you.
On the next big faceting project could you give the rose egg freeform diagram a try. Its found on the united states faceters guild website. Shape is freeform and its the second egg. Looks like a challenging project. But really interested in seeing it come to life.
I love watching your videos and you do amazing work. As much as I love the Semi-Portuguese and the Portuguese cut, I don't find this one as attractive. I will add that seeing it in your hand helped. Maybe if I saw it in person I could see it personality.
I don't mind this design. Probably less facets would be better. Cheers
Looked like a pain in the butt to do, but WOW. The final result was WOW!
It was a pain. Next design will be easier. Thanks for watching.
Ive just binged for several hours on your beautifully produced videos. Do you ever sell the gems you cut or accept any custom orders? I would love to own one of your original designs like the blue topaz from your recent video. In any event, may I just say, you, sir, are a true artist!
I have only sold a few gems in the past. I may sell a few gems in the future, but I mainly facet gems and make youtube videos for enjoyment and to inspire people to learn other arts and crafts. I glad you enjoyed my videos. Regards Cliff
It is, of course, very pretty, as all cut gemstones are, but I'm not entirely sure that this cut particularly suits this particular stone due to its lack of bright fire and relatively low color saturation. Regardless, that is incredibly impressive work, especially without the aid of a high-accuracy depth gauge. It'll definitely make a nice addition to your dragon's hoarde of miscellaneous cut gemstones that are too large to properly set into jewelry.
You make some valid points. I always think gems look better in real life. Most cuts have there own unique character. I've cut better designs, but this has some interest. Cheers Cliff
This is beautiful. I just keep wondering how you could mount something like this for use in a pendant?
Looks fantastic. You mention that it was difficult to do? I can understand the number of facets would have been a challenge but what else. Is it getting the facets the same size by applying pressure on the gem during grinding?
new sub and that's fuckin beautiful
Welcome to my channel....Hope you enjoyed the vid. Cheers
Ive always enjoyed your videos! I know it's very basic but how do you read a faceting diagram. My hope is to be familiar with the basics while I'm looking for a class/classes to learn the art. It's always been a dream to do this
I would join a gem club. Yes, in a video I must show how to read a diagram. It's not difficult.
@@VintageTimeGems that would be awesome!!!
I was wondering, do you sell your stones or do you keep them?
I have sold a few. But I keep them and my wife is the benefactor. I'm in the process of getting some gems set.
Linda top
Thank you.
Everybody needs a thumbs-down troll.
...keeps us humble.
How much would I fork over for a complete FacetStar unit?
They don't make them now.
Hey Cliff, where did you get this facet design. Would love to cut it myself. Thanks

facetdiagrams.org/database/ is another good resource
From none of websites listed in this post. It comes out of a book called "Trophy Winning facet cuts by Afton Giacomini".
Thanks Cliff
I know about the ones those websites. Thanks! The one Cliff used in this video was very different and had text with it. I will look up that book.
do you have a store
Hi Nora, I just started a online web shop a few weeks ago. Here is the link. gemquest.com.au/
I love RUclips GOLD. A lot of chipping, why? The final piece is massive!
What chipping? Only when I Used a course disc.
@@VintageTimeGems is the disk a bit blunt or just because its coarse? Cheers beautiful looker.
@@tgfcujhb7583 It's because it's course. Those chips are removed by using finer grade discs.
@@VintageTimeGems thanks for the answer and the tutorial
