    Great work and a beautiful finished stone, Cliff. I was particularly interested in your comments regarding polishing that material. I have experienced exactly what you described when using CeOx... build up of slurry carrying over to adjacent facets. Thank you for all you share in your videos... We all learn more with every one.

    So excited to see you cut this design. I am totally fascinated by opposed bar designs. Your facets are so crisp and sharp. You mentioned not using cerium for this cut because the slurry builds up and causes issues for the previously polished facet. Could you explain that further? Although I have a tin lap I have not yet used it. There is no doubts though about your results so I will be pulling it out to use.
    Oh it finally happened to me. I had my first stone come off the dop as I was wiping it to look at my meet points on the pavilion tonight. It was just as well a previously un seen fracture showed up that would have been right through the crown. Which is probably why it came off the dop.
    I look forward to your next video and seeing what Jaws will be up to.
    Very nice work on this stone Cliff.
    Have a great rest of the week.

    • @VintageTimeGems
      @VintageTimeGems  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks Tam, It seems the larger the facet the more chance of scratching, as the cerium gets trapped. I have a feeling it's not always the cerium that's scratching the polished facets, I suspect the cerium is dragging out small particles of the quartz of the facet that is being polished and that also get dragged on the surface of the previous polished facet. This scratching seems to happen mostly on quartz with large horizontal facets. Regards Cliff

    awesome. i don't know what it is,but bar cut has some unique magic of it's own. maybe because we are all used to some triangular shaped flashes when we see a gem? rectangular flashes are much brighter.

    • @VintageTimeGems
      @VintageTimeGems  5 лет назад

    Hey, I was wondering if you could give some advice to somebody who wants to get into cutting crystals/minerals. I'm a lover of Jadeite, Amythest, Quartz and Opal and can get my hands on very cheap rough jade (live in Hong Kong). Anyway- I know it's a bit different to cutting gemstones like sapphire but I was wondering what tools I should purchase to start off? Just a standard Dremel tool with a bunch of sandpaper and diamond tipped drill bits to polish/carve? Could you post some links to some tools you would recommend?
    Much appreciated, love the content!
