It was Soooooo!!!! Nice to see a new video. 😀😁😀😁😀😁😀😁😀Thanks bye for now!!!!
You really are an inspiration to us newbies to faceting. :) thanks for taking the time to make these videos.
Thanks Jeanette...I wish you all the best in faceting. I find there is always something new to learn.
Free form cuts are so exciting!
Thank you.
You did a beautiful job cutting, i hope you win the competition. some day i want to try a freeform gem.
Thanks Brent.
My initial reaction was "this colour looks very artificial" but the finished gem is like a slice of ocean water. Wow! 👍
Thanks tsaboukas....
Yes! The color is just stunning.
Beautiful designer. Very well cut. I hope to cut beautiful stones like that someday.
Thanks Santiago....Your doing very well with your faceting. Regards Cliff
Exquisite!! It looks like a Ceylon sapphire!!
Thanks Jo Ann.
What a great job you did! And the shape is very specific
Congratulations Cliff!
Good Luck in the competition,I hope you share the prize with Jaws as you make a great team. I liked the Intro Music by the way.
Thanks Paul.
Unusual design cliff ,beautiful colour ,well done, cheers.
Thanks Tim....I see you in your next video. Cheers
Really beautiful stone, I hope you win the contest.
Thanks Ross.
you really are Mastering these shield type designs , stunning
Thanks Ray...I am getting better at them. It would be darn hard to get set though. Cheers Cliff
looks beautiful!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautifully cut gem.
Great job Cliff!!! Thank you for all the handy tips and tricks you show us. It has decreased my cutting time by at least half. I really appreciate the videos you do!!!
Thanks Hucklenaut. I wouldn't mind seeing some of your faceted gems? Cheers Cliff
@@VintageTimeGems I just finished cutting an unknown material which was dredged up while drilling for natural gas. I also recently finished cutting an xcube (laser beam splitter)
I created a channel so I could post short video's of my cuts.
Outstanding! Brilliant! Turned out better than I thought it would. Perhaps after you win, you might one day post the cuts😉💎
Thanks Jasper Blue, Yes if I win or not should show the design.
I love the color blue and when I initially heard this was a man-made material and saw the initial material I was not the least bit impressed, however, your excellent job of faceting this material and the gemstone produced has certainly changed my mind. Great job. Thanks for sharing Cliff.
I prefer natural quartz, but this is a nice color. MM quartz is a bit on the chippy side. Cheers
Parabéns...seu trabalho foi muito bem executado.
Thank you
José.
Another beauty Cliff! Wishing you the best in the competition!
Thanks Gun Slinger.
Very nicely done.👍 Glass and quartz are indeed silicon dioxide mostly, the main distinction being one is man made the other Mother Nature made.😁🖖
Thank you.
impressive sir.., a winner! good luck!
Thanks trueherbsman..I'm not so sure if this will win. It sure would raise a few eyebrows if it did. Cheers
That's a cool, funky design. I really like it.
Thanks .
Blue is my favorite color, and this stone is so pretty, you are very talented :-)
Thanks Shannon.
Talk about a mesmerising reveal!
That is such an awesome design.
Go jaws. What kind of killer cut will he come up with next??
Fingers crossed. you never know, you could be the first to get 2 in a row!
Thanks Ryan....Two in a row would be very rare, but you never know. Cheers
Absolutely stunning and the cut is so perfect for this stone ,as it’s brought out the colour much more ,at first I thought it was going to be a lot lighter, until you started cutting 😀
Beautiful, best of luck! We love your work/videos.
Thanks
Renaissance Novice.....Take Care
🌟 That's a winner for sure, Cliff!!! 👍🏼 The color depth is amazing, and Jaws came up with a mix that showcases your perfect meets both in the step crown and the complicated pavilion. Good Job all around, my friend.😍
Thanks John, I think the meets are better on this gem. I hope it gets 90 plus out of 100 in the scoring results. It wont get 100, I know that. Cheers Cliff
Great job thank you so much
Thanks
Wow, what a colour! I don't think I've ever seen quartz in such a deep blue hue, very pretty though. The cut is lovely, I do believe you have a shot at winning (again!). Good luck with the competition Cliff.
Thanks Kathy. It would be nice to win.
Hi Cliff and of course Jaws. Wow!
Ok I love the cut. I watched the video more than once before commenting.
These facets on the gem are all sharp, crisp and flat. Something I dream of achieving and constantly strive for. The meets are awesome and show me what's possible as I continue to learn.
I have heard facetors speak of their various prepolish steps, but seeing what you did on the copper lap made it make more sense to me. I usually see folks go from a very worn 1200 to a final polish or a 2500 or 3000 to a final polish. Seeing you add the extra step made more sense of what I have only heard about from other professionals.
On the pavilion your steps of final polishing before the 3rd tier was cut made sense to me in that the final pavilion meets looked like they came together easier and better. Makes me wish I had seen this before.
Your process on the crown I have heard of before by people who have sworn by it like you said but not having been taught this way it seemed that it would be time consuming in my minds eye. However, having seen the process now in your video I can see where this may be more of a time saver and improve accuracy of meets.
Cliff the gem is a stunner! Thank you for sharing your work.
Hi Tam. I thought getting the P2 facets was a critical element of the design. I new that if it's temporary center point was perfect then the P3 facets would create perfect kite facets without very little cheating in. I think the facets are really sharp and because it is a comp gem I put in a extra effort to get a more perfect gem. I've been wanting to get a better pre polish. You are correct a worn 1200 or even a very very worn 600 lap can make a good pre polish lap. Always keep worn laps as they come in handy. Ps, I think you work is very good, better than commercial cuts. Regards Cliff
@@VintageTimeGems aww Cliff thank you for your encouragement.
Dope!
My plan to grow copper sulphate crystal and duplicate ocean heart from Titanic.
I hope to facet that design one day. Cheers
Hi Cliff, Thanks for your videos - I have been enjoying them. Thanks for the tip on stone cleaning during polishing using lens cleaner. Don't know if I can get some to try here in Scotland. I have used chamois leather in the past. Have not cut a gem for many years but hope to begin again, having gained some inspiration from watching your videos. Thanks again. JS.
Your welcome...........
You must start online lessons Cliff or sir Cliff? Wonderful cut.
Thanks Chis...Not sure about online lessons. I have enough on my plate lately. Cheers
Beautiful result as usual. Thanks for the lens wipes tip about removing dust and lint!
I was not aware of the hydro quartz controversy but it definitely is not a glass but a man made crystal.
Some may be disappointed that it is not natural. Of course that doesn't mean that some aren't selling glass and calling it hydro quartz.
At this time I'm wary of gems from India, as the specs and quantities are high but the prices are too low.
They are in "too good to be true territory"
Thanks Paul. It's good that Australian comps mainly offer both synths and natural gems as a choice. I could have gone for natural quartz, but I really did want to try out the man made stuff, as it was another chance to learn more about another material. This will make me a better gem cutter long term. Cheers
Such a strong beautiful blue, darker stones are always prettier than the lighter ones in my opinion.
Thanks. I a fan of lighter gems. However, this corn flower blue seems always to be a peoples favourite.
Quartz and glass have the same composition but different structures. The definition of glass is a material that has been cooled sufficiently rapidly to prevent crystal formation, whereas quartz has a crystalline structure. I would assume this is why quartz is harder - its regular structure and plenty of bonds between atoms provide superior strength.
On to your cut gem. I was hoping you would raise the camera angle slightly, we could not see right down at a right angle to the table. I worry that your gem has no internal fire or brilliance (I am absolutely a gem noob so I don't know if that is what you were going for). All of the sparkles came from the outer surfaces and I couldn't see any internal light play like in a diamond. As I said I am a noob so perhaps I am expecting the wrong thing. I also believe you when you say it is better in person.
It is certainly an interesting cut, and I am glad that it looks to preserve more material than a round brilliant does.
Hi Charlie, Thanks for all the info. I agree about the sparkle. I was not happy about the final reveal as this gem looks so much better in real life. I would real like to do that again, as I could get the gem to sit up properly due to the odd shape. It would look great in the sun. I may rethink of doing another re shoot of the Final Reveal. Cheers
Nice gem and intressing design. And the material is Hydrothermal Quartz That is made from real Quartz in an Autoclave that has been grown on a seed. I can reccomend the book ”Gems made by man” by Kurt Nassau about synthetic gems.
Looks Great. I use an 1940’s MDR Master machine and I found more consistency by polishing out each facet steps like you did on the crown. Have you ever tried the 3M film laps? I have gone all the way out to a 200,000 for a final polish on some special stones. Incredible results.
Hi Chuck, It does seem that on step cuts this method is more consistent. Never used 3M film laps. No way would I use cerium as the swarf gets dragged on the polishes facet below. Cheers.
Wish that material is topaz or zircon...that's will be much2 better with the luster..anyway this also beautiful...keep it up sir..
So do I, but the competition stipulates man made or natural quartz.
At a certain angle it ooks a bit like a self portrait by Jaws! (Hrrrrr hrrrrhrrrrrr hhrrrrrrr!)
This gem makes me remember giratina's chest gem. Pokemon has marked my life XD
What're you talking about? As far I know the only ones with a gem on their body are palkia and dialga, but palkia has em on its shoulders and dialga is the one with a gem on its chest
I must check this out.
@@VintageTimeGems it's Dialgas Gem. Please do, it's a wonderful blue as well
It's a beautiful piece. Less showy that a sparkly scintillator so the cut has to do it justice and you did just that.
So...... what did the judges think?
It hasn't been judged yet. I decided to cut a light colour. Judges prefer lighter gems. I won't get any results till November. Cheers
Interesting material & cut. What would be the price difference between a similar block of glass vs man made quartz ?
The price of Man made quartz can be bought at $20 a KG.
@@VintageTimeGems Thank you for replying. Would this be the cheapest gem material or there are others still ?
Looks like deep glacial ice.
I do like the color. I tad lighter would be better.
Wow!!! This is utterly amazing! You are extremely talented my friend! Very good work indeed! If you don't win this competition then those judges are blind! Good luck, but i think you'll win anyway! P l ease let us know how it goes for ya, ok?
Thanks Denise. Yes I will let my subscribers know how I went. Regards Cliff
It looks almost identical to a piece of artificial spinel I have. I've been cutting it into smaller pieces to facet though.
I agree. Most synth spinels are this color.
What came first,
The facet machine or the Rolex?
Great job, what would be the price of it ?
Where do I get this quartz from.
Blue and green glass, how much is the price?
I'd kinda been wondering how long it takes you to facet one of these gems? I've heard that for an SRB cut it takes about 8 hours from start to finish.
This took over a week off and on maybe around 15 plus hours. Ps, I sent a text via messenger to you but I haven't heard back.
Hi I have a stone like carbonado diamond please help me to identify if that black stone is carbonado diamond.. also I have meteriore stone
Sorry Habash, I'm only a gem cutter. Not a gemologist. Cheers
🐕⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💎👍👍👍👍👍🇧🇷
Cliff, I can't listen to the audio of your videos any longer. I find it really interesting what you have to say, but the music is too much. Please choose a different, less beaten to death, song. Even better, remove the music entirely.
Good point Ross...I was thinking the same. I'll add different music next video, but I wont get rid of the background music.
Best of luck mate!
Thanks Adam.
