- Hello, I'm a gem cutter from Australia. In this episode of how to cut gemstones I will be faceting Quartz. This is my own design and it's called "The Tornadoes Eye". You will see me facet this gem from the large natural piece of rough crystal to an amazing sparkling gem. I cut this gem on a faceting machine called a "Facetstar" which is manufactured in Australia. Please like and subscribe and feel free to leave comments. Take Care

Just...WOW! Always cut for brilliance....it gives LIFE to the gem!! ( I want my gems to sparkle like fireworks!!
Been watching your vids for a few months and I really love how you work hard to make your gems have such amazing brilliance and not just carat weight.
Thanks tomtcom. Gem cut for brilliance look better and in my opinion have more value. Gems usually cut for size can often look like a piece of glass.
Oh,my,goodness! Breathtakingly beautiful! I never realized the diversity of faceting ! Genius!
Thank you Vivian.
Absolutely love that design! Gives me the feeling like something you'd see powering a super advanced spaceship. Thumbs up for Cliff's 'Tornado Eye'! Warp speed, engage! 😁
Thanks Karl...The design exceeded my expectations. Cheers
Stunning Cliff!
Thanks Tam
The pavilion looks a lot like lotus flower petals, it's really quite beautiful! I'm glad I found this channel and look forward to learning more about gem cutting and lapidary in general!
Your talent for creating beautiful gems is truly amazing. Just discovered your channel maybe two months ago and am slowly working my way through your library of videos. I could binge watch them , but I prefer to start at the beginning eventually catch up. Your "Tornadoes Eye" design is amazing! You certainly brought out the full character and brilliance of the quartz! Thank you! By the way, I am a big fan of Jaws. Especially in his appearance in the epic "Bond" adventure.
Thanks for your kind words. The Bond Video was one of my favourites. I had so much fun making that video. Cheers
I love this design, absolutely stunning
Thank you.
Great work, fun to watch!
wow . Beautiful job.
Thanks Robert
Magnificent! This is quartz performing at finest.
Thank you.
That turned out BEAUTIFUL.....
"Oh wow..." My reaction on final reveal. What a gorgeous design and brilliance for this quartz! I am a hobbiest mineral collector and am fascinated with the process of how these raw crystals are cut into perfect gems. Love your channel and your style!
Thanks for your kind words. I really need to learn more about minerals and geology it's also a great hobby.
It's always interesting to watch you work but I enjoy watching you cut quartz most. It's amazing how take something so common and turn it into a thing of beauty.
Quartz faceted well really looks good. Amethyst is a quartz and the Rwandan Amethyst that has the rich red and violet blues is very expensive. Some people underestimate the price of certain quartz 's. Even a large natural clear quartz faceted well will be expensive.
@@VintageTimeGems Thanks for a little more information. My collection is small but I truly appreciate what nature has made and the talent it takes to bring out it's beauty.
That was beautiful. I liked the design too
Thank you Subra.
Love your style and Jaws just adds the finishing touch! lol
Thank you.
It is stunning, love Smoky Quartz!
You had me there for a second. I thought you were going to carve a baseball from that giant hunk of rough. Nice work.
If the rough didn't have flaws in it I may have had a shot at a baseball. Cheers
Really amazing
Thank you
Never watched a stone be faceted before - what a lot of work! The design is gorgeous.
That is truly stunning and perfect for a gem to represent the storm chasers that chase those monsters that tear across our lands
Thanks Star Cat. It would be quire terrifying for those living in the tornado alley in the US. No way would I live anywhere in those states or Florida.
Beautiful design and cut, Cliff. Thanks for the great video.
Thanks John
Absolutely the most beautiful cut of stone I've ever seen! I'm in love!
Thank you. I though this design came out well. Cheers
Beautiful piece of work
Thanks Justin
Beautiful cut and a great final reveal. Thanks.
Thanks Manuel
Hey Cliff.
Very Nice Stone and Nice design
Wow! I can see how you want to protect your design - what an amazing effect! Thanks for sharing (well not the design of course, but the rest) this beauty.
Thanks Kathy. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Every time you cut a stone you amaze me nice looking Stone I wish I can do that
Wow!
Love the sparkle on this one.
Thanks
Gorgeous cut and work!!!
Thank You Jo Ann
Beautiful. Amazing how it came from that rather ragged piece of quartz step by step. Very interesting.
Beautiful design it looks amazing 👍
The result is stunning. Great job.
Thanks Kerry.
my goodness that is pretty
Thanks Ray.
Beauty!
Great masterpiece as usual
Thanks Albert.
this one looks, really nice
Thanks Martin
Stunning!
Wow, incredible cut and design. That is so beautiful 😍
so beautiful
Thank you
Beautiful design!
Gorgeous!
Thank you! Cheers!
WOW Just Wow. It reminds me of a pupil and iris of the eye. It looks like it should be sitting in the socket of some idol in a far off tropical jungle. Subscribed
Your right, it does look like a pupil of a eye, but when you tilt and move it you can see its vortex. It's harder to see on film. Cheers
You should be getting the pieces I sent within the next few days, can't wait to see what you do with them!😁👍
Thank you Jason. I look forward to receiving them. I'll let you know when they arrive. Cheers Cliff
Really amazed every time. Nice...
Thanks John.
That's a gem you should be proud of because you did a great job and it's your own design. I can't wait to see the design improvements in the coming videos and to see it cut into a stone with a high refractive index once you have it perfected.
Not sure I'll ever be good enough. Like to hope so .you have so much knowledge. Seems like each show I can pick up tips. I do have one wish that you might be able to take care of all the legal issues to protect your designs. Then maybe write a book with some of your designs, with tips . I know that I would buy at least 3 .one of which I would wear out just studying it .love your shows .
Daryl
I would love to try faceting looks very therapeutic. nice work sir
Thank you.
9:01 I love heavily faceted gems! Looks awesome!
that's a beautiful stone
I'm really fascinated by all of your work, process by process until it becomes a very amazing work from the first time I saw it on my RUclips homepage until I became your subscriber I really like it, greetings from Indonesia
the pavillion reminds me of a king protea
stunninng as usual! I agree with the theft of ideas. I make jewelry and its sad that other have to be so underhanded and create their youtube fame off of the creative designs of another. It has happened to so many of my friends unfortunately. Give Jaws a pet on the ears for me!
Thank you Dawn. I've started another project. Jaws has been very lazy. When it's cold and winter Jaws rarely goes outside.
Gracias mate...!!!
Would've liked if you'd placed it on some kind of turntable and did an aerial and side view of it turning showing the whirlwind effect!
you are a very very gifted person you have a talent others only dream of im one of them amazing talent dont wast it
I love your videos! 😀 5/5
Thank you.
I have a knapped rose shot quartz oyster knife blade though to be 8-12 thousand yrs. old.
Super
My God thats a large piece of rough quartz
It had several flaws in it. Well worth making a gem out of. Cheers
I really would want to have this peice 😊 either that or the poval, and or the Australian Sapphire 😊
If I had a choice I prefer to keep this gem instead of Sapphire or the poval, as I think the design is great. But how I wish Sapphires were larger and lighter in colour.
Wow
See when quartz is cut the right way it can be just as beautiful as any other gemstone!!!!!!!! Looks like sparkling ice !!!! In my book!!!! Question how much would a pice of quartz like that be sold for???🤔💞🥰
I've always been a collector of gems and various rock samples and am going to give faceting a try myself in the near future. Out of couriousity, about how much time to you think you have put into this gem just doing the faceting alone? Thanks for the info and education. Appreciate your videos greatly!!! Learned so much!!!
Show Maravilha belíssimo trabalho magnifico Parabéns 👍👏
Thanks
Beautiful job. I should wanted the degrees lol
I'd wear the fuck out of that stone! Amazing craftsmanship
I would like to see an emerald cut
Hi Mileno, I did a Emerald cut not that long ago. I made a video of it. The type of gem was Citrine. ruclips.net/video/ahOptBQZ59A/видео.html
Muito top as gemas, muito show
Thank you
Can you cut the normal quartz from the gravel in your back yard? Stupid question I know
Hi..im just getting interested in gem cutting 😌 as I have access to garnets and quartz on my property id love to cut and polish them into beautiful stones. My question is can chunks of quartz be cut and polished? By that I mean I don't have large crystals of quartz but large veins or boulders if u will. Sorry for my lack of knowledge in describing this. Hope you get my question and can advise me..thanks
Would a 180 grit lap be good for preforming quartz ?
Yes that would work fine..........
Very nice, once or twice a fort night?
Could you use a wooden dop stick with wax?
Looking awesome mate. I'm a noob cutter myself I was wondering what glue you use? I 've been using wax on the pavilion then transferring to dextone 2 part epoxy. Sorry if this question been asked a million times before.
I use 2 part Devcon 5 minute epoxy. I'm thinking if trying a fast drying CA Glue as a test soon. Just in case a gem comes off a dop and I need a fast fix.
ever have a run in with a roo while gem collecting?
Not yet. And never hope to.
👍👍👍👍👍💎
Been watching for almost a month and your awesome, I'm in USA and I tinker with a dremel to cut and shape
Thank you.
Top
Thank you.
Beautiful!!! How much cost that stone?
I have both rock Cristal ruff stone and orthoclase stone and metioter block diomond stone sir.
I want buyer sir
4th!
also idk if you will see this but i’m looking to buy a used gem cutter. any recommendations?
Edit: the finished product is remarkable! I’d love to have that as an expensive paperweight
I look up a faceting guild or local gem clubs.
Do you cut for people? I have found some quality Crystal quarts
Well the other faceting channels don't have the Australian accent, so they can't copy that without sounding weird. the gem looks amazing!😮 wondering if you have done any videos of faceting golden rutilated quartz?
I would like to do a video on golden rutilated quartz. It's such a beautiful gem. I may have to try to source some, as I do wish to facet some. I have a clear rutilated quartz, but its not as good as the golden variety. Yes foreigners impersonating a Aussie accent would sound odd. The trouble is there are people out there downloading my videos and uploading them on their channels and re editing them. Mostly Asian's gem companies trying to sell gems and pretending that they are all personally faceted. RUclips have bots that weed them out and dish out copyright notices. I weeded out a few myself. Cheers
Hi Jason if you look in the description you will find my email address. You can email me details of golden rutilated quartz if you have a piece you wish to send that I could facet. Cheers Cliff
call it a smile-diamond
very stunning gem sir.. so well2 done..
4k takes so much data. Thanks for watching.
How much was that piece of quartz? If you don't mind me asking?
Raw quartz is cheap.
Final polish disk is how much grit🙏🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸i love this video thank you so much sir 🙏🌼💜💛💜
I want to cut and facit artist like you😆
How much would a raw chunk of quartz like that cost to buy?
Less than $10.
outdoing yourself on a regular basis there Cliff! Have you ever cut a Herkimer..? I know a prime source in NY :)
Thanks Trueherbsman, I've had so many people ask if I can facet some Herkimer. It is so difficult to get larger piece that isn't fragmented. It's difficult to get quality pieces is Australia, and whatever is available is junk. If you have someone in mind that can sell some at a affordable price that would great. Cheers
@@VintageTimeGems we'll be seeing that on the dop sooner than later I reckon!
also I just came across an interesting prospect here.., ruclips.net/video/zm_uSgGHdJs/видео.html
I’m curious. Is being a Gem Cutters apprentice a common job in the industry? Or is it something that you really have to learn and work towards becoming on your own. I would very much like to work and learn to become one.
Not common to have an apprenticeship in Western countries. Best to join a gem club, go to regular workshops and join a facetors guild. That way you will learn. Cheers
Vintage Time Thank you for the great information and quick response. You’ve definitely earned my subscription. Yes I well certainly look into your suggestions. I’ve always been fascinated with gems, crystals and rare stones. My grandfather was a geologist. So I guess it runs in the family. Thanks again.
Dean from Texas.
Would you be willing to cut kyanite on a vid? Cabochon or otherwise?
Hi Joshua, yes I would love to facet or cab kyanite one day. It's a matter of getting hold of quality rough material.
I found a piece just like it at pala oceanview mine.
With tourmaline, and aquamarine.
Where is your gem club?
Central Victoria Australia.
I have three stones i like you to look at I like to sind pictures of these three but I don't know how to sind to you
Please, then please give me information such as your machine, my estimated price, and any website that is highly gratifying to you. Thank you
To purchase a machine like mine would cost about $1000 -$2000 US. Check out FACETRON
Thank you very much and I admire your work so much, I wish you success always and never give up your advice Vintage Time
This ston price?
The gem is not for sale.
Like me
Thank you for watching.
I think it was prettier uncut
That is amazing!!! Too bad that's just a quartz crystal. Could you do that on a peridot ?
