You can disable exposure simulation so your screen doesn't go dark when you adjust your exposure. Thanks for the battery tip, I will see if mine does that as well.
It seems that your "No Go" items are the 3rd Party batteries. If you review a vendor's product, use their Components. Compare your bargain price to the lost opportunity. I hope you didn't lose money on the shoot because you chose the cheap battery over an Canon battery. And, you KNEW it before you went on the paying Wedding shoot. Otherwise, I liked the review and I like you handsome son, even more.
This is an old video, but I wanted to hear your comments on the RP. I have 2 6D's and a 6Dii, but I am adding an RP to use eye and face autofocus. I also have the Yongnou 600 flash. I know you have moved on since this video was published, but it is very helpful for me today. I think I will need some more Canon brand batteries!

I still use the 6DII as Main camera everyday and actually also still use the 6d the original also for professional work like weddings. The AF in live view on the 6D II is on the same level as in the rp, R, R6 or R5 in my experience. You'll find reviews here to all those cameras. The RP has a crop mode wh3n filming and has no usable AF in 4K, only 1080p, so a used R6 may be better. I send the rp after 200.000 shots and bought one again for my 5 year old son for 500 euros last year, but I would rather look for a used r6 (or even an R) or just continue with the 6D II (which is what I have done)
thank you for the effort and the sharing. i have handled the rp several times but your experience is helpful in understanding the strengths/weaknesses of the rp. thumbs up.
I’ve ordered this camera, and I have Canon brand flashes for my old camera, so once I have this camera in my hands, i will let you know whether the problem is your Yongnuo flash or whether there is a flaw with the EOS RP TTL system. Cheers!

Just found your channel and this review is great. Thank you. I guess the key takeaway here is to get genuine batteries and to turn on eco mode. For wedding shooting, eco mode and power saving evf settings help to extend battery life enormously. I know a wedding photographer uses two RP and 4batteries a day with 1.5-2k photos per battery. 35mm f1.4L II and 85mm f1.2L II

Hi Frank, glad you liked it :) I made another review after 100.000 shots with it that turned out more positive :) you'll find it on my channel, take a look :) The 35 and the 85 are two great lenses, a killer combo. I use two 6D II for weddings with a 3 lens setup - a wide angle 20mm or 24mm L II, a standard, the 50 L or 50mm f1.8 and a tele, the 85 L II or 135 L.
@ good to hear your experience. Have you ever been caught swapping lenses or missing the shots because of focal length? A 2bodies 2lenses setup eliminates lens swapping, but 24-50-85 are also sweet.

@@frankluo230 I sometimes go with a 2 lens setup like a 24 and 50 or 35 and 80 to small weddings, but for big full day shootings I need 3 lenses, the wide, the standard and a tele. I will make a series soon about my wedding photography here and what I use, with many images :)
Excellent review! I have the Canon m50 and am caught with the low batt situation often, so on longer shoots I now use an external battery and can shoot all day with a USB adapter & voltage booster. I'll be sure to check out the 6D mk II. Pank
So you had issues with having continuous focus on for some reason and exposure simulation on in the graduation photo booth. 100% user error in both cases. Also, there are various power saving settings.
Continuous auto focus with face tracking is the whole point of having this camera in a wedfing or other event. Turning it off would be counterproductive. Powering off the camera while it is hanging at your side is the better solution. You will get used to turning it on as you bring it to your eye.

We could just as easily rewind the clock and interview professionals who earned a living shooting weddings with a 40D, which is now a $20 camera. As was mentioned previously, the RP (and other mirrorless models) can certainly be used for all-day events even though their batteries inherently won't last as long as they otherwise can in a DSLR. _Especially when not configured to save energy_ . With eye auto focus it's _just now_ only fulfilling its promise. That's huge because it represents a sea change in how cameras will be used. And if I had to cull through thousands or hundreds of images for just one event I'd quit the business. Thats insane.

Thank you for your deep and so true comment. You will also find a review of the rp on my channel :) actually two as I got to 100.000 images I made a long term review. Take a look at it and tell me what you think :)
Excellent as always; great insights in the the userbility of the RP v's 6D. I would have thought though, you'd more try the EOS R for weddings, as it has the same battery as the 6D series, and is more Pro.
Dirksón! Photography Battery life on the RP pushed me towards the 6Dii. But my backup camera is the 80D because having both FF & APSC means my 35mm & 85mm lenses give me 56mm & 135mm Field of View as well!. That & the cameras are very similar to each other in operation.

yes, tracking is excellent and not much different from newer cameras like the R6II (I have 2 of them). The downside for me is poor battery life and strange colors on the screen (HDR look) - the Eos R has it also, the newer cameras like R5 and R6 not. It does not affect the colors of the image, the images look just HDR like and oversaturated on the screen.
Hiya, thanks for your reply & experience with the AF; that sounds very positive & reassuring! I've read a lot of negative comments about the AF. But if you have first hand, real world experience, especially professionally, then that's really fantastic to hear you praise the AF! Strange about the screen colours, I've not heard that before. All the best
You should buy a battery grip for your RP on eBay my friend. And I suggest using 3 32gb SDcards if your going to use an RP for wedding. Since only 1 card slot you can change the 3 cards during the event as a safety precaution.
I prefer the 6D II. But I don't use RF lenses until now, I have 6 great EF prime lenses plus Zooms, so I stick to EF for now. Adapter works great, but the workhorse for me now are 2 6DII. The RP is just for a project where I photograph myself. I also just bought a 5DS R, but that is for fine Art and personal Projects mostly. So for me the 6D II is my work horse in 2020. It also depends on what you want to do. The RP has silent mode (with compromises), can use EF-S, EF and RF lenses, you can get the ND filter in the EF Adapter which is a phenomenal idea to have one ND Filter in the Adapter that can be used for any EF EFS lens. Video Quality is also better and it has 4K (without reliable AF though). So it could be right for you, for me it just doesn't feel as good as the 6D II.
If you stand in the back waiting, why dont change battery then if you had the time, and the experience that the battery was getting bad really fast. And repeat that for 5 weddings like you said? And why not get original batteries that show you how much juice you got left. Sounds really strange to go cheap on that when you are a "professional" wedding photographer?
5 лет назад+1
I got great experience with the 6D with the third party batteries, never needed the original ones. The 3rd party ones did cost me all together 90 Euros, original ones go for 260 Euros and I bought the camera mostly for one project. I shoot weddings with the 6D I, which works great to this day. The RP is my street photography and family camera. Or Real Estate, which I also do.
It’s just silly that Canon tries to block usage of 3rd party batteries - just like printers block 3rd party printer cartridges. On 6D I started noticing the “cannot communicate with battery, continue?” warnings but they still work good. Sad to hear Canon has gotten worse at trying to make $$$ on proprietary batteries.
Hi Janis how are you? Hope you and your family is doing fine.. I came across your video agian. I use 5d mkiii for many years but I hate the focus system. What camera (maybe this?) would you recommend? All the best Johnny from Holland
3 года назад+1
Hi Johnny, nice to hear from you, maybe I'll come to Amsterdam when the time is better, than we go out again with our cameras :) The AF got incredible with the 6D II, 5D IV, Eos R, RP, R5 and R6. They all will give you the same image (only Megapixel changes but the look is more or less the same). For weddings I like to use two cameras and I use 2x 6D II. They are cheap and super reliable. One is now at 500.000 shots and still works like on day one. The RP is the weakest camera, as the battery is very weak, I would not take the RP just because the battery is so quickly empty. The 6DII got very cheap and the AF is on the same level as the new R5 in my experience and I tried them all. I can use the 50mm f1.2 and 85mm f1.2 wide open on point without any focus issues. Face detection puts the Eye in Focus all the time. If you want to use 2 cameras, get 2x 6D II. If you want to get the new RF lenses (very expensive) the Eos R is a great option and also got down in price. If you want to add video professionally the R5 and R6 are great because they have IS internal for stabilized images. R5 is though too big file sizes with 45 MP for weddings. I buy many lenses on eBay used for half the price and I now have everything from 20mm to 200mm in prime lenses EF, so I don't need the RF lenses. I use the RP for family, but think about selling it, I got the 5DS R for fine art photography to print XXL for galleries (which will come in the future) and the 2x 6D II for everything like weddings and business shootings.
I'm 12mths late to respond - but your issue is a stupid feature in Canon mirrorless cameras called "Continuous AF", which is NOT Servo AF. It is only found in the menus and should be turned off immediately when setting up a new camera. It tells the camera to continuously search for focus (regardless of whether your camera is set to one shot or servo) even when you're not half-pressing the shutter button. Turning it off makes the camera stop searching for focus until you actually press the shutter button or AF On button).

You're totally right and I was really wrong here. I made another review after 100.000 shots taken
What was your wedding experience with the OEM Battery that came with the camera? Was it just as bad as the others, or was the OEM one much better? I would expect it to last longer. Great video and work... my only gripe would be cheaping out on the batteries. After that first experience, I would've gotten some official batteries instead of trying to ram a square peg into a round hole on multiple shoots... just sayin.
5 лет назад+1
Actually now I am cooled off and it is a really nice camera. I changed the settings from automatically searching for faces to just focus when I push the trigger and that turned out to make the camera last longer. It is a great camera for a great price and let's you use rf lenses, ef and efs. For weddings I just got another 6dii to have two identical camera to get the same files for editing, but the rp is a great one.
thanks for the very good review 😄 I have 6D already, should I buy a RP or 6DII for videography?
5 лет назад+2
The RP is better in video quality than the 6D II, so the RP is the choice there. But the R is even better and the Sony a7iii is also a great choice. But the Autofocus on the 6DII and Eos R / RP is a big improvement over the old 6D (also in Photo Mode).
So advantages of 6dii over rp is better battery when switch on all the time, more consistent workflow in post processing when you have other same camera, familiarity usage with current camera and better ttl for flash. So for casual still shooters (non wedding) that doesn't have any camera now (but do have some shooting experience) and don't do much flash and post processing, will you recommend rp over 6dii? These 2 cameras are in my consideration list.
5 лет назад+2
Both will give you great images, the RP has the much better Video qualities and it is lighter and you can use EF-s lenses also. Both will give you great images :)
so far most of the people ive talked to really enjoy shooting with it despite the specs
5 лет назад
I heard so too :) I might have been more happy with the R probably. The RP does take great images and it is super easy to get correct focus, but it has its flaws for my kind of work.
I prefer the 6D II - if you want to use rf lenses and have many ef-s lenses or want to do much video work the rp is your camera. If mostly photography with ef lenses is your thing I prefer the 6D II. I still have the RP but I mostly shoot with 2 Canon 6D IIs for any paid work.
Sir Can u tell me How much time does Battery last with ..I mean apart from count of photographs and with count of photographing...I was planning to own EOS RP but disappointed about battery backup..which i came to know from many reviews...
4 года назад
Battery can be used actually really well with the RP, I do get to 1000 to 2000 shots, but it is less powerful than the battery from the Eos R or 6D II or R6. I would try to find a used Eos R instead, they are not that expensive anymore.
Hi have you tried comparing the canon 35 vs sigma 35? Why did you choose the sigma? Thanks
5 лет назад
The Sigma is not my favorite lens as the autofocus is unreliable on most of my older cameras, so I would not buy a Sigma lens again if there is a Canon version.
I've tried both. I went with the Sigma for both consistency of look (I have 5 Art lenses), and that it's awesome with the Variable ND Lens Mount Adapter. It was worth the sacrifice of stabilization. The Canon also doesn't have the Nano-USM focusing like the rf 24-105, so the autofocus is literally about the same, or slightly better with the Sigma in my experience.
It seems that cheap batteries comes with a price... no battery indicator.. however that’s not fair to blame the camera for that. Do anyone have any experience with replacement batteries where the battery indicator will work with the RP?
Dirksón! Photography That is just sad. Disabling features intentionally just to make us buy their new lenses or their more expensive camera is a real shit move from Canon.

You can shoot 4k with efs lenses but sadly without reliable af
6d if you are proficient using manual focus. It's one of the best I've used and used it more than my MKIII for video. 6d mark 2 will have dual auto focus which is awesome.
5 лет назад+1
6D II is great in terms of price and the auto focus is super easy even at f1.2. I would pick the 6D II definitely.
11:00 Is AF so silence? or did you use external wireless microphone?
5 лет назад
I had a rode mic on the filming camera, the AF is pretty quiet. You can also shoot without any sound at all, but with some compromises, so you cannot set everything manually.
Thanks for the exellent review, do you know if you can extract photos from the 4k video? Also have you find a way to use ttl flash or you can only use it on manual. thanks again, I really like your style I wish I can do the type of street photography that you do.
Hey man watched your review about the 6d and 6markII now this one. Could you give me some advice whether I should purchase 6d (classic) or this one for still photography. My budget only allows that much so I may be able to afford the nifty fifty and maybe later on buy some more lenses. So which one is better for me for stills? I dont really need video, but of course in this time it would be nice to have slightly more innovative camera, I know 6d classic as bad focus and poor video. So please advice me. Thanks so much in advance I hope you see this. Regards, Arnas

I just came from a wedding today where I used the 6D I (2 of them) with the 135mm L, 24mm L and the 50mm f1.8 as my 50mm f1.2 has to be sent to Canon right now. The 6D I, 6D II and Eos RP are all great cameras. The RP is the most easy one, the 6D II also very easy to focus, the 6D I with the center focus point also very good to use focus and recompose. You will have a great time with any of those cameras. The 50mm f1.8 is a great lens, I still use it even though I have the L version as well.
It can only does it job as best as the person behind it!
Hello! Thank you for experience review! PS Why you prefer 6d mark i over mark ii ? :O low light performance ?
5 лет назад+1
It is more silent when shooting, you see better the focus point you use (especially at night important) - the 6D II sometimes the focus point doesn't blink red and you "guess" the center point. 6D II has a great Dual Pixel AF for photo and video but for me the 6D I is the one I use still to this day for weddings (just came home from a wedding right now). It is now 2:40h in the morning here :)
simple solution with the 3rd party battery, carry extra batteries in your pocket, or in sling bag. if it needs to be changed, change it, duh! It's not the cameras fault. you KNEW it way ahead about its battery. haha
So the issues he had with the camera were with using knock off Chinese batteries which don’t report charge correctly and with knock off Chinese strobes. Cool.
2 года назад
Correct :) I made another review after 200.000 shots, you'll also find it on my channel here If you're interested in :)
I think you are blaming the camera for something that is not the cameras fault, first you said you used cheap batteries and you did not made the correct settings in the camera, and the worst part is you did not learn from the first time it happened
The grip makes all the difference ergonomically for the larger half of hand sizes and makes the RP very comfortable in-hand. That is very interesting regarding no warning as to battery depletion as well as no TTL with third party flashes. There seems to be a push within Canon to enforce brand use as evidenced by no center pin in the new SL3’s hot shoe. Thanks for the review.
I bought a thirdparty LP-E6N. It worked well for half a year. After this, I could not even load the batterie. I will never buy a thirdparty again. Another tip, the EOS R has a configuration item „Continuos AF“. Set this to disable. With this setting, the camera only focuses if you half press the shutter(or AF-ON).
Never had a SD card or Compact Flash fail for me. Been shooting digital since the introduction of the Canon 10d and yes I have shot many weddings. Battery life is quite good from what I hear although I do not own this particular Canon.
Did you ever shot any wedding with the Canon RP? If no - shut up please! DON’T BLAME THE CAMERA. It can only does it job as best as the person behind it!
Very poor review, more about your short comings than the camera. I suggest before you give a negative review first learn the camera, and most importantly... don't base your negativity of the camera on THIRD PARTY items! Of course you get different outputs from 2 totally different cameras! When you normally shoot with 2 of the exact same model, how can you expect the same output with 2 totally different models? I'm sure your fee is not cheap, so why use cheap accessories that are so important... especially to the customer!

Great photos do you have your presets for canon cameras?
Wow! That is a really, really white shirt...That said, thanks for the review.
Umm...proper white balance ??
If you stand in the back waiting, why dont change battery then if you had the time, and the experience that the battery was getting bad really fast. And repeat that for 5 weddings like you said? And why not get original batteries that show you how much juice you got left. Sounds really strange to go cheap on that when you are a "professional" wedding photographer?
Wonderful review and your works too good and makes me happy
What's annoying is that you did not set the camera to auto sleep/standby mode which will make the battery lasts slightly longer.
you're totally right. I did another review after 200.000 shots, you will find it also on my channel, take a look to get my final thoughts :)
Hi Janis how are you? Hope you and your family is doing fine.. I came across your video agian. I use 5d mkiii for many years but I hate the focus system. What camera (maybe this?) would you recommend? All the best Johnny from Holland
Excellent & honest review! Stunning images! Greetings from London
Thanks!
I made another review after 100.000 shots taken
nice video, I like your shirt! :D
What was your wedding experience with the OEM Battery that came with the camera? Was it just as bad as the others, or was the OEM one much better? I would expect it to last longer. Great video and work... my only gripe would be cheaping out on the batteries. After that first experience, I would've gotten some official batteries instead of trying to ram a square peg into a round hole on multiple shoots... just sayin.
Actually now I am cooled off and it is a really nice camera. I changed the settings from automatically searching for faces to just focus when I push the trigger and that turned out to make the camera last longer. It is a great camera for a great price and let's you use rf lenses, ef and efs. For weddings I just got another 6dii to have two identical camera to get the same files for editing, but the rp is a great one.
thanks for the very good review 😄
I have 6D already, should I buy a RP or 6DII for videography?
Both will give you great images, the RP has the much better Video qualities and it is lighter and you can use EF-s lenses also. Both will give you great images :)
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you
Thank you for your feedback!
Always great content thanks
You can switch off the constant autofocus in the menu 7 and you save battery
so far most of the people ive talked to really enjoy shooting with it despite the specs
I heard so too :) I might have been more happy with the R probably. The RP does take great images and it is super easy to get correct focus, but it has its flaws for my kind of work.
RP or 6d Mark II? What your opinion?
I prefer the 6D II - if you want to use rf lenses and have many ef-s lenses or want to do much video work the rp is your camera. If mostly photography with ef lenses is your thing I prefer the 6D II. I still have the RP but I mostly shoot with 2 Canon 6D IIs for any paid work.
Sir Can u tell me How much time does Battery last with ..I mean apart from count of photographs and with count of photographing...I was planning to own EOS RP but disappointed about battery backup..which i came to know from many reviews...
Thanks
Thanks for an excellent review !
It seems that cheap batteries comes with a price... no battery indicator.. however that’s not fair to blame the camera for that.
Do anyone have any experience with replacement batteries where the battery indicator will work with the RP?
With the new firmware update does it allow 1080p with efs lenses?
That's a good question, I'll check soon and let you know.
Dirksón! Photography Please do. Thank you.
No 1080 with efs lenses :(
Dirksón! Photography That is just sad. Disabling features intentionally just to make us buy their new lenses or their more expensive camera is a real shit move from Canon.
You can shoot 4k with efs lenses but sadly without reliable af
Wich camara is the great in wedding 6d or 6d mark 2.?
6d if you are proficient using manual focus. It's one of the best I've used and used it more than my MKIII for video. 6d mark 2 will have dual auto focus which is awesome.
6D II is great in terms of price and the auto focus is super easy even at f1.2. I would pick the 6D II definitely.
Please do video on photo composition and retouching

Is AF so silence? or did you use external wireless microphone?
I had a rode mic on the filming camera, the AF is pretty quiet. You can also shoot without any sound at all, but with some compromises, so you cannot set everything manually.
@ hmmm pretty quiet. I have got 24L and 85L and are much louder than yours on RP
@@jarosawniekrasz5123 I use the 24L and 85L a lot :) great lenses :)
Thanks for the exellent review, do you know if you can extract photos from the 4k video? Also have you find a way to use ttl flash or you can only use it on manual. thanks again, I really like your style I wish I can do the type of street photography that you do.
Thanks for the review. I was thinking of getting this as my backup for my eos r. Looks like I will save some more and just get another eos r.
Regards,
Arnas
I just came from a wedding today where I used the 6D I (2 of them) with the 135mm L, 24mm L and the 50mm f1.8 as my 50mm f1.2 has to be sent to Canon right now. The 6D I, 6D II and Eos RP are all great cameras. The RP is the most easy one, the 6D II also very easy to focus, the 6D I with the center focus point also very good to use focus and recompose. You will have a great time with any of those cameras. The 50mm f1.8 is a great lens, I still use it even though I have the L version as well.
It can only does it job as best as the person behind it!
Your son is beautiful ! The review is great thank you!!
Good video. The battery issue in a user thing. You will have to learn to turn it on and off regularly. It’s just a learning curve.
Great info
Kommt das Video auch noch auf deutsch?
kommt :)
Hello! Thank you for experience review! PS Why you prefer 6d mark i over mark ii ? :O low light performance ?
It is more silent when shooting, you see better the focus point you use (especially at night important) - the 6D II sometimes the focus point doesn't blink red and you "guess" the center point. 6D II has a great Dual Pixel AF for photo and video but for me the 6D I is the one I use still to this day for weddings (just came home from a wedding right now). It is now 2:40h in the morning here :)
Did he say 2700 pictures with ONE BATTERY???
Yes I think he said so.
@5:38 no silent mode 🤦♂️
simple solution with the 3rd party battery, carry extra batteries in your pocket, or in sling bag. if it needs to be changed, change it, duh! It's not the cameras fault. you KNEW it way ahead about its battery. haha
Thank you for you r experience Infos
So you bought 3rd party battery for 15€ instead of oem canon for 50€ and now you fault camera - seriously !????
Yes, that's actually the truth.
30,000.00 pictures?😱
Liebe den deutschen akzent
So the issues he had with the camera were with using knock off Chinese batteries which don’t report charge correctly and with knock off Chinese strobes. Cool.
Correct :) I made another review after 200.000 shots, you'll also find it on my channel here If you're interested in :)
That’s a canon issue. Blame everything on China who’s actually feeding you
I think you are blaming the camera for something that is not the cameras fault, first you said you used cheap batteries and you did not made the correct settings in the camera, and the worst part is you did not learn from the first time it happened
You're totally right
How about getting genuine Canon batteries?
Great Idea :)
@@juharov Great tip, thanks!
you got a beautiful Son derickson
Hahah RP for weddings. Maybe with 20 extra batteries in the bag and if you dont care to loose all photos if the SD card fail.
I never had a SD card fail in the last 1600000 images, so no worries here. Battery on the other hand is a point to take a deeper look into.
Never had a SD card or Compact Flash fail for me. Been shooting digital since the introduction of the Canon 10d and yes I have shot many weddings. Battery life is quite good from what I hear although I do not own this particular Canon.
Or just send them continues to your phone...
Michael the maven have a video with Scott, a wedding photog feom maui. He uses the RP for weddings for 2 months and he is doing good with it
Did you ever shot any wedding with the Canon RP? If no - shut up please! DON’T BLAME THE CAMERA. It can only does it job as best as the person behind it!
This
Very poor review, more about your short comings than the camera.
Thank you very much for your honest opinion. I have done another review of this camera after 100.000 images, I would love to hear your opinion if I did it better this time. You will also find it in my channel. Looking forward to your opinion. Dirksón!
@ English?
Over 80K images in the course of 2 months. You much be the type of gun and pray photographer... lol. Mind you the EOS-Rp was not intended design to use as a pro camera. It is fall back on you to learn your new camera and testing your new gear throughly before taken on the big pay rig lol. DON’T BLAME THE CAMERA. It’s can only does it job as best as the person behind its VF . Lol
I'm sorry but that a really weird beard cut
