Really Ford? No Tow Hooks On The F150?

- We got a call for a two wheel drive Ford F-150 that was stuck in the sand at Sand Hollow State Park. It took a little extra care because it had a very low air dam in the front. Soon, he was out and on his way!

I love how Matt gives instructions to his customers, firm, informative, but always respectful.
Exactly this. He doesn't nag or make fun of them for they took a city car to a muddy terrain or so.
Until that got old and risky so not anymore
To me it seems silly that 2WD trucks almost never have tow hooks, when they get stuck easier than their 4WD counterparts.
Well ya see most people don't understand that 2wd are "bare pavement pounders only' no ice, no snow, no mud, no sand.
@@bobbiebigg3 not necessarily I have a tj but I have a twd Tacoma with thirty threes all the way around with posi. No problem with sand or mud .
that's usually an option that comes with 4x4 for most brands. mine does have it being 4x2 but its a z71 package , my dads 4x2 work truck does not have them
Ryan rkj I’ve got a lowered 2wd and I for sure have some tow hooks!!
it is a money game. By the time the car maker manufactures 250k vehicles and those tow hooks cost $10 each vehicle for materials and labor to install, you are looking at 2.5 million in cost. Compare that to how many of these vehicles actually ever go offroad and get stuck to the point of where those tow hooks are essential to their recovery (instead of using other recovery points on the vehicle), it is financially not worth it for the car makers to put them on.
You should get a close-up of the attachment points you use on the front of all these new vehicles without proper towing hooks
It seems like that dog is an experienced supervisor.
He trained Matt & Ed. 😉 🐾🐾
WOOF
I suspect the dog is the business owner
Please don't stop your videos! I'm Indian and watching from UAE! I'm your biggest fan. Keep updates of your new videos...
I feel like I’ve been to sand hollow so many times that the lady will just wave me through.
LOL
Does Matt have to pay the $75 for an annual pass or do they allow him in for free since he is doing a recovery?
Tell them Matt called you and he's stick...😂
@@davidgates1122 I'm almost positive they just let him in (when he's going for a recovery)--the state park doesn't want stuck vehicles to remain stuck in their facility. The state park probably also admits law enforcement, municipal utilities (trash pickup, water, maybe sewer, etc.), and similar, under the same policy.
Now everyone with an XJ wants to move to Utah and work for Matt. Bring their dogs to work and pull other trucks out and feel like a king about their XJ ‘s.
@@MattsOffRoadRecovery is that a yes? I'll leave tomorrow morning XD
Bleepin Jeep guys
Love my XJ! No sand in my life but I laugh at snow ever since I got my XJ years ago. No need to plow the driveway.
But keep the dogs in the truck when doing the dangerous bit🤦♂
“Steering wheel orientation!” Matt, you sir are a fine human being.
They missed the money shot with the truck being pulled out of the sand. These early videos are so different from the later ones and interesting how they improved their cinematography and editing so much.
I'm addicted to your videos
LOVE the BACKING TRACKS AND SLICK TITLES KEEP IMPROVING EVERY DAY HELLO FROM ENGLAND OVER THE POND.KEEP THE SMALL TALK GOING WE WANT TO HEAR AND FEEL LIKE WE ARE THERE WITH YOU AND THE DOGS
Wonderful channel !! Don't stop !! Between your videos and the Highway Thru Hell show from Canada on TV, I have little time for anything else. Fascinating career...new challenges with every call. Zero boredom ! And you get to drive to your jobs in awesome country. Keep up the good works !! And keep the puppies safe and happy too.
I'm addicted to that XJ
I keep finding video's i've not watch and they are just as good as the rest :-))
Really enjoy watching your videos. You are blessed with a great family and great friends. Iv had Chevy and dodge 4 wheelers but not a jeep. Your rig and those ropes are impressive. .take care and keep on trucking.
Love your videos! Binge watching all day today! I like them because I rode a RZR all over the Sand Hallow, Coral Pink area. Yup, the soft sand can get you stuck in no time. I’m out of Las Vegas, Dunes and Trails ATV club..
Back when I was young and dumb I had a truck that had lockers on the axles and I never even knew what they were so I'd get stuck and I could probably get myself out but I was just uninformed. Now I'm older and probably still dumb but at least I know about the lockers
Well done. I had some worries about that air dam but it survived. I have learned a lot from watching your videos. We have similar setups except I use my winch most of the time. One of the things I find strange is the complete lack of recovery points on these trucks. Nice black plastic covers where they were supposed to be on that Ford.
"Oh he dose'nt have tow hooks on the front." 0:45 I say, "Tow hooks. I don't need no stinking tow hooks. That's what A-frames are for."
Pre famous Trevor appearance. I love the backdrop scenery!! Matt emphasize Utah more, people love it.
Recoveries are always better with Trevor! :-)
Outstanding camera work. 👏 😁 👍 🇺🇸
Lady keeps a sharp eye on everything including Max. Haha
Great video thank you!
Do you hook them on the control arms? Maybe you can show us how you it should be done without damaging suspension. I'm sure I am not the only one wanting to learn how to extract ourselves out if we need to.
So, I feel like the next thing you need to put in the shop is an official soundtrack 😅 the music always seems to fit the setting and mood of each day and each job perfectly!
Those 4.0 liter inline 6’s are just so damn nasty. Bulletproof dude. We had one in our old grand Cherokee that was still running with well over 230,000 when we finally let her go to a new home. Great engine.
Some time when you hook two ropes together I would like you to use a soft shackle to see how they work and get your opinion.
If I buy a new hat will you sign it? Because I've never had an autograph by a movie star before.
10/10 and the days cardio!
Never ever say " Man this Jeep is running good"
HaHa
Yeah, the amount of fate he just tempted... I'm surprised his first yank didn't pull the whole back end off the XJ banana and send all six pistons and rods off into the brush.
I said that once about a Dodge Caravan I had. Minutes later the timing belt went. Yep, never say that.
Digging the banjo.
doing business & recovery with the dogs i get stuck in UT il give you my business
Impressive to get that done without damage to the air dam. Ever torn anything up? 😉
You pretty much gotta special order those 2wd trucks here in Alberta if you want one, they don’t get far in the snow either.
Love it, got to get the hat and a pin.
Man I saw your video with a camo hat. Don't remember which video it was they are all great.. thank man for the entertainment. I like the camo hats
Those DAWGs need more air time. and a agent.
WOOF, WOOF
I agree 10/10!
Love the banjo music!
What type chain are you using on the end of the rope ?
(Banjo music covers conversations. 😟. )
Great videos. We look forward to each one.
U should run a chop block off the hitch to lower your rope. ..just saying no biggie. Love the videos
Any additional cost of 4x4, is a cost you get back 100% on trade in.
Is there a way to weld recovery hooks to the subframe of any vehicle? Cars in particular?
Love these recovery videos! Very entertaining. What are your thoughts on using a shackle to connect two kinetic ropes? I’ve always been told and believed that it is very dangerous because the shackle would go flying if the ropes broke.
Matt's Towing & Recovery
Thanks for the reply! I was just curious to see what an actual professional thought about the matter since most of the opinions I hear are from people without much experience.
@@MattsOffRoadRecovery There are a lot of RUclips videos that talk about putting floor mats over tow straps to prevent injury should the strap snap. I think RUclips viewers of off road videos have been brainwashed about the dangers of snapping straps and such. Thanks for your input. I trust your advice based upon years of experience,
Energy output is always equal to or less than energy input. Matt always applies the minimum force required to get the job done. Assess the weakest link and don't go above it. The weakest link in these situations is the customers vehicle.
Nice bluegrass music.
Not sure why but these vids are entertaining lol
Yeah same here....I really enjoy watching them. I told and showed my wife what I was watching and she said how is that entertaining? They just don’t understand!
It would seems you are a frequent visitor to Sand Hollow. Do they give you a free pass to get in?
Matt what are the lengths of your recovery snatch lines?
Those are the thickest kinetic ropes I've seen. 1 1/4 or 2 inch?
Great thinking Ford! No tow hooks? What is with auto manufacturers these days?
Did he put the recovery hook on the front cross member or lower control arm?
Good old American towing before the jeep did u use a horse. 😛
Question: How do you determine if you need to couple several kinetic ropes rather than only one?
Thank you. Excellent videos. Educational and entertaining.
@@MattsOffRoadRecovery Ah, I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking it was to keep less of a vertical angle to keep pressure off the air damper as much as possible.
Your sand must be a whole different animal than the beach sand around here. I see people stuck and the vehicles they're stuck in and I'm going HOW IN THE WORLD DID YOU GET STUCK THERE?!?! My SUBARU would handle that, much less my truck! Then I see you and your Jeep have issues in the same terrain. Pretty obvious that your sand is a whole different level and while my truck might(!) do OK, my Subaru would become a land anchor in a hurry.
Have you thought about using the new soft shackles?
might save A LOT of drama
i wonder if there was a way to stiffen the front suspension soley for when he's tugging on people, keep the front from bouncing up and down , then flip a switch and back to normal
Probably safer, but don’t know that I would trust them. I’ve used them on large sailing vessels and they were a pain to make sure it was set right. Also, their too darn
expensive. I wonder how many kinetic ropes he goes through in a year.
I’ve heard that if you are stuck in dry soft sand and you soak each tire or in front of each tire with 5 Gal of water you could drive out. It’s been years ago but it worked on a stuck pick up.
And if you heat up all your dents with a hair dryer, they will pop right out!
Before the soft shackles !
Where is your soft shackle for connecting your two ropes?😮
I can't believe how many people bring a FWD CUV or 2WD pickup to this part of the country. It's very rare to see a 2WD pickup in Alaska.
2WD are for driving on pavement and other hard surfaces only and I see no reason why anyone would buy 2WD..
Dubious 2wd Drive pickups are completely useless. 4wd actually pays you back and then some when you sell
That Ford should have an elocker for the rear...
Vladimir_Bone Spur_tRump ridge line?
Aren’t there tow hooks behind those black plastic caps either side of the license plate
U sure u done run a locker, the banana is amazing on sand
Can anybody explain what Matt does with the wheels at 0:34? Is that a pressure control?
Manual locking hubs. Rotating the dial engages the 4wd in the front.
@@ImerzOnline thanks!
Trevooooor.❤️
"Next time, I am bringing my Peterbilt. Lets see how Matt handles that one!"
Well, good video but I couldn’t see exactly where the chains were exactly hooked up to since the camera man didn’t stay with it. Just got a glimpse of it. 🤷🏻♀️ But I’ll follow the advice. Anywhere strong and sturdy.
Is that an offroad park? Or are you allowed to drive offroad every where?
What parts do you use to not brake something when you're wheel was hopping like it was
@@MattsOffRoadRecovery oh ok
And the winner of the Best Beard Award goes too ......
Been on a binge of your channel and man am I Glad you stopped using this music!!! Clampetts Take up towing!!!! LMBO!!! The way I see it.. if im ever in the hood and I get stuck....Ive watched enough videos to pay for my recovery!!! Stay safe guys!!!
The music is great, whatcha talking bout
Can’t beat banjo and fiddle
Is that Bella Blick on the Strings ?
Yikes! Never join two ropes with a bow shackle. That’s a missile waiting to fly through the air.
I can't remember if the f150's have the plastic or rubber air dams. If they're the rubber ones they're actually pretty forgiving
The "typical" F-150 aftermarket air dam is just black plastic. [don't know about OEM--you might be able to option something nicer]
2wd trucks go a long way till they don’t , them a tow truck is called
👍👍👍👍👍
So what's that saying, up shi..sand creek and you hear banjos playing.....Deliverance.
Matt,
Have you ever broke a yankem rope
A true testament of a product, I’ve liked mine this winter, with no breaks. Thanks is for the reply, great service all around as it seems. We enjoy the filmed recoveries. What a great time to be alive. God bless
Man, but Lady sure likes to run when she is out.
Where the road tricks everybody, you should put up a sign. Not to warn them, just advertise.
Shoulda bought the fx4 😂
Older video I know, but I have to wonder if you ever just rib your customers real good from time to time. You're always so nice and calm and collected, do you ever get that guy that you know has a good sense of humor and just tear into him jokingly? lol
Can't see where that kind of behavior would be appropriate or beneficial (that is, make the recovery go more smoothly), but what do I know?
@@kenc2257 Chill. If it is one of Matt's friends, they are going to hear about having to make the call. In particular, Paul from FabRats got stuck in his work truck, and Matt made Paul the butt of several jokes.
That Ford is so lowwww in the front!
Isn't it funny that most 'off-road' domestic vehicles are not designed to go over much more than grass? Just expensive hardware store delivery vehicles.
Suggestion: get a drop hitch for a lower, clearance angle on the air dams. Should work front and rear on the Cherokee. Better yet, you can make one yourself. No tow hooks under those black plastic covers in the front of the 2WD F-150 ?? Bummer !!!
Why are you using shackle to connect two ropes? It's very dengerous. In case one of two ropes will broken the shackle will came to fly. Ropes can be connected without shackles.
I will copy and past Matt's privious answer to this question, He is asked many times,
Matt's Off Road Recovery
I’m really grappling with how to answer questions like this.(i’m getting a lot of them, and some of them have a lot more venom venom than yours)
The Internet has made it sound like recovery ropes are poised to strike without warning.
Me and 100 close friends have been doing snatch recovery for his long as the ropes have existed. I have never seen a recovery rope do the kind of damage that snapped chains and cables do.
I love being alive. I spend a lot of time avoiding things that I think are going to snuff me out early.
I feel confident and comfortable with my techniques, and practices. I have a lot of years, and hundreds of successful snatch recoveries under my belt. I have also witnessed many, many snatch recoveries. I try to learn something new from every single one. (I have seen at least a dozen ropes break, none of them made me fear for my life)
That being said, I think improper use of recovery gear, such as I have, could definitely be lethal in the wrong hands, and in the wrong situation.
Unfortunately, I can’t please everybody... I will probably just keep doing what I’m doing.
SO WHY did you have to use the LONGER rope to pull him out and then go to the Shorter rope?????????????????????????????
@@MattsOffRoadRecovery THANKS for the reply! I love what you do and that you film it to show how things can happen to people that don't always plan ahead.
I hope not to call on you..LOL, but what are your RATES?
😀
You would think Ford would put tow hooks on every truck.
Was hear
Cant understand why the lowering of tyre pressure is a mystery to 99.9 % of drivers.
I never understood why tow hooks are on the front of 4x4 pickup trucks and not in the back. If you're trying to pull someone else out, why would you be driving backwards to do that? 🤔
Pulling out 50k$ "trucks" 😂
🖒🤠
two bearded guys in a jeep ... is that ZZ tow ?
But I thought they were built Ford tough?
Is that possible that tow hooks were under those plastic covers around the licence plate ?
Does anyone ever come across rattlesnakes while out doing a vehicle recovery?
Silly people will make you rich
Nice shot of the Geo Engineering going on in your sky shots. That's more interesting than your towing videos.
John, Really show me the secret tanks in any commercial airliner. How about the chem trucks do they disguise them as food service trucks? Oxidizing hydrocarbons liberates water as a byproduct. When it is -60F the water freezes into ice crystals then sublimates to water vapor without going through the liquid phase. Get a book!
@@oneskydog4401 The mind is like a parachute it only works when its open.My father in law worked for Boeing and worked on GE Engines and also admitted to me they could put an additive in the jet fuel for the purpose of Geo engineering...I don't think its something that's going on ... i know it is...so don't try to convince me of something i know to be true.
