Toyota Caught In A Sand Trap!

  • One day, three extractions!!
We got called out for a minivan that was stuck in the sand at Sand Hollow State Park. After we found them and got them back on solid ground, we headed for home. As we were driving out of the park, we were flagged down by the owner of a Toyota that needed a little help getting back to Solid footing.
Later that afternoon, we were called out for a vehicle that had lost its transmission fluid. By this time it was 105° and the wind was blowing a little bit. It was HOT!!!
Since this vehicle couldn’t help at all, I had to use enough kinetic energy rope to get me on solid footing to pull him to where we could pick him up with a rollback tow truck.

Great man. So many would be in serious trouble without his kind services, people need learn a few fundamental rules and limitations of driving their vehicle into the desert, some are totally unprepared and just follow a GPS. I owned a Jeep XJ for 24 years it was an excellent basic 4wd with a combined chassis, low weight, strong 4 litre six cylinder engine, diff lockers and two inch lift would go anywhere.

I was in the sand with my old truck and had the Transfer Case Control Module “TCCM” go out on my truck disabling my four wheel drive (although I didn’t know the problem at the time). It was one of the worse experiences of my life, I had no cell reception and everyone who came across me were a total jerks and not only wouldn’t help, but also laughed and made fun of me and my family. Bad things can happen to anyone. “Murphy’s Law” but since that experience I have always gone out of my way to help anyone out on the trail, any time for any reason. Give people the benefit of the doubt and help your fellow off roaders, even if they are in a minivan someplace that it has no business being 😉. Thanks for the video!

Money is amazing. While your tow truck driver might not need any help building an app, someone somewhere does. They will 'pay' you (exchange of service for a symbolic representation of 'any goods'), and you can then pay your tow truck driver.
Even if you are a farmer, not everyone likes beets. No problem, sell beets for money and then use that money to buy ANYTHING. Money is probably one of the most critical and least discussed technologies ever conceptualized. We never think of it in these terms, but honestly money is to pre-history what the internet is to modernity.

Before I watch any further (I'm at 03:17): Thank you for holding your values in this easy-to-be-nasty RUclips world (and to be honest,I have also at least once made myself guilty of such nastiness). Quite honestly, I simply don't succeed as much as I would like to at applying the "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything" mantra, but I am working on improving my behaviour. Watch this space.
You, Sir are probably surprised by the level of venom in the comments section, because there is a certain level of decency and 'niceness' that your parents clearly taught you . While you are probably not so naive that you were completely unaware that people can be so nasty, I sense that the sheer level of aggro has caught you a bit off guard. Keep on being the fella that we've all come to know a little and respect a lot (for more than just his off roading skills).

My response to the “why would someone take a fill-in-the-blank out on these roads” comments is I am happy these people are using the amazing public lands we have in the West. I drive past a dozen Jeeps and 4x4s just on my street here in Colorado every day, which sit there and never move. I’m glad people are going out to enjoy the outdoors regardless of what they drive, most important thing is to go out there.
To be clear, I do believe in being prepared and equipped to help myself and others when travelling off highway. I’m not going to tackle the Alpine Loop in my Impreza for example. But that car and the Foresters that preceeded it have racked up a lot of miles on dirt and snowy roads, and I’ve been pulled out a couple times in my life too when I couldn’t dig out.

You were talking about why some people get stuck. My dad says the same thing about people that launch boats the first few times. They don't know what the hell their doing, and don't realize the trailer won't turn the same way as you turn the truck, it goes the opposite way. So you have a newbe trying to back down the ramp getting pissed cause they can't control the trailer. It takes a few times to get the hang of it, as i am sure driving a heavy ass camper does in the sand. Its good for you, cause you make $$$. But even better for us, cause we get to watch your videos. He was in tears and said he got stuck in the mud, and apologized. I patted him on the shoulder and reassured him that those machines get stuck all the time and its no problem. I felt so bad that he had some guilt or shame in getting stuck. No one should have guilt over getting stuck in the mud. If one hasn't gotten stuck, one is not off-roading enough.

First of all!!!, I DO NOT call anybody a moron, a fool, dumbass, dumbf**k etc. that get stuck!!! Most people have a tendency to believe commercials!! I.E. Toyota commercials, Jeeps commercials etc. and especially Honda commercials!!! And as long as you drive their name brand NOTHING GOES WRONG including off-roading!!! And some other people assume they can do what other people do (that have more skill and knowledge about off-roading). My backstory is; early 90s (91-92) was the first 2 years of me in Glamis, CA. Was out there 7 months (Jan- July). July gets 116° with no shade at 9% humidity!!!, and it SUCKS ASS!!!!!! And most of all!!, I really do appreciate your videos!!! again THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT VIDEOS!!!

Loving your videos! I’ve been stuck more times than I care to remember and done my fair share of pulling other vehicles out. It’s usually been good times for all those involved, mostly because we have an attitude like yours, crap happens, deal with it. Sincerely a XJ owner a bit north of ya (Orangeville Utah).

    • @scottiemanners

Different situations awd is actually better sometimes for sand and snow. Really depends on the capability of the individual vehicle and what traction modes it has. Truly offroading yes 4x4 is king

Likely where the van owner stores the strap between pulls or tows. A common practice of off-roaders. Keeps it handy and out of the mud, sand, or whatever. I hook mine to the hitch and throw the rest into the bed of my truck. If I ever need to be pulled out (rare unless seriously mudding), all I have to do is throw the other end out to whomever is pulling.

    • @Tanner731

@@dwightstewart7181 no. the jeep owner was the one taking the strap off. he was about to do a roof rack delete on that minivan. if they were 10 minutes later to that van hed have already ripped it off
