Who the hell gives this a thumbs down? It’s concise, to the point, and saves you at least a hundred bucks on labor. What more do people want?

Probably people that couldn't get their pump off because their shaft and pole was corroded together. If anyone with that problem sees this comment, you can do it without taking off the pump by taking the hoses off the pump and following the rest of the directions. Just lay down some towels because you're going to get a bunch of water leaking from the hoses and pump. It's kind of unavoidable unless you wanna break the pump off and replace the pump to. It's a bit more difficult to get the motor clips off with the pump still connected but it's doable because I just did it. Just go in from the front with a flathead and pry them off. Where there's a will there's a way. Every unit and every specific fix comes with its own unique set of problems. Fixes aren't always as simple as the tutorials make them look. It's not the fault of the tutorial maker. They just aren't sitting in front of your specific set of circumstances. Sometimes you just gotta work with what you've got and figure it out. Tutorials are just meant to be a general guide because you can't predict every specific problem that can and will occur.

People that know taking the whole cabinet off is a waste of time, when you can just get everything you need to access by tipping the washer on it's back.

I can be a bit of a challenge to re-install the motor, while keeping everything aligned due to the weight of the motor. 2 hockey pucks stacked on top of one another are about the perfect height to just set the motor on and slide it closer and give your arm a rest if you need it! Worked awesome

Excellent video and narration. I was quoted $300 when all I had was a broken $5 coupler. Took some patience to get the motor back on but this video helped me through it.

WORKED EXACTLY AS DESCIRBED! $10 part, 45 minutes and saved myself $180 in service charges.

The only tricky part was the motor shaft had turned a bit during the install so I had a little trouble spinning it so that it lined up with the water drain pump. Something to keep in mind

THANK YOU! Saved me $180 the repair man quoted! Was easier then I thought it would be. I think I spent an hour total on it, had to stop on the middle for a bit to take care of something else.

Got it done...had to lay washer down as I could not keep the motor up due to the weight. Took a bit longer for me, but a great feeling to fix it. Thanks.

Very helpful video. Installed the part like they said and saved $80 on a call. I'd add that using a flashlight to see under the tub and having a pair of pliers to align the drain motor shaft with the drain pump are also useful to have.

$5 part and 20 minutes VS $190 quote from appliance repair shop PLUS the part !! These vintage Kenmore washers are amazing. 20 years and 2 minor repairs; broken lid switch (bypassed) and the coupler. I just unplugged the washer tilted it against wall but the method described here provides better access.

This worked so well! Thanks for the video! I'm so glad I was able to fix my machine for $18! I can't believe it was so easy, but it would have been too hard if not for this video. It took me 2 hours, because I've never done anything with it before, and someone had previously put the latches for the top on backward.

Great video. I suggest disconnecting the pump completely (have a catch pan for water) as it gives you more room. Also removing the backing plate (2 - 1/2 inch bolts) will give better access to the transmission. Also I used a socket to tamp the cogs in place, helps them seat squarely.

Be nice if you showed how you got the top strap to snap onto the motor and kind of tools you used. I use electric tape to suspend the top strap from above so that it does not get in the way or fall off while replacing the motor

Thank you for this! I put the new coupler (2 plastic pieces embedded in rubber) in but I can't push the motor back into place far enough to attach the top clip. Do you think that I should take the coupler apart and put 1 plastic piece in first and gently pound the middle of it in place to be sure that it's not sticking out and then put the rubber piece on with the other plastic piece OR maybe we put the coupling set in the wrong way OR the shaft of the motor is not inserted in the coupling (since it is not round for an easy shot)? Any suggestions? It's wearing us out.

Some Kenmore laundry centers (washer/dryer combos) have a motor coupler but not all of them have that part. Let us know the model number of your Kenmore laundry center and more details about the problem you're trying to fix.

Would it kill anyone to say what size the screws are in the motor clips? I've watched 3 videos and no one will say what size socket I need.

The screws that secure the mounting clips to the motor are 5/16”.

Fixing things is often times not as simple as tutorials make them out to be. Why? Because the person making the tutorial isn't sitting in front of your machine. Every fix has its own unique set of problems. It's not the fault of the tutorial maker. Sometimes you just gotta figure things out. If you can't get the pump off. Leave it on, remove the hoses and then take the motor off with the pump still their. Otherwise you may have to break off the pump and replace that too. But the motor can be removed with the pump still on. Just takes a bit more struggle to get the motor clips off. If I can do it with my non mechanically inclined brain, you can to!👍 Where there's a will there's a way. Just lay down towels when you take off the pump hoses cause you're going to get some water running out. And that water is nasty 🤢

Def. not a 1 woman job. Mounting that motor back up a bear! It’s super heavy and in order to slide it onto the coupler and the metal cogs supporting it, you need 1 person to hold and another person to guide it in place. The brackets are super tight and hard to slide back onto the motor. For better or worse, Taking the front washer case off will give you a great view of all the crud that may have accumulated inside your drum! 🤪

Services are getting ridiculous these days, $200+ to come out and do this for you, or youtube and an $8 part. :/

    • @AlchemistTongueDrums
      @AlchemistTongueDrums 3 года назад

RUclips and an 8 dollar part is probably WHY they're getting ridiculous. Everyone can do their own simple fixes now which means less business for them so they put the price up to compensate.
