Those spark plugs breaking like that made me think of why they stopped using rivets on tank hulls. Shots used to hit the rivets and the rivet would shear off on the inside of the tanks and bounce around killing and harming the occupants.
I had an 89 s dime. 4x4 5spd. 2.8 with unknown miles. Said 250k + but it had stopped ticking before i got it. It was owned by 2 volunteer firemen before me. I ran ems and drove it for three years. All it knew was getting the shit kicked out of it . I retired it to farm use when i got another ride. It provided a couple of years of piss drunk weekend mud hole giggles after that. It finally barfed the rods out of it quite spectacularly at about 4am one night back in the field. Full ketchup in 3rd gear 4 low. We gave it a viking funeral on the spot, and sang songs about it like an old friend. Makes a feller mist talking about that lil bastard . 2.8’s were a good mill. Sad you had to loosen rods to break it.personal I think you cheated the old turd out of a proper death.
I've had a few vehicles with a 2.8 v6 and the next version 3.1. They were basically the same. They were good motors. They lasted longer then the rest of the vehicle. And I drove the shit out of them.
yup! had a 81 chevy citation with a carbed 2.8 225K on it and it still chirped the tires going from 1st into 2nd. Was a auto trans. But yes, good motor to beat on, lasted longer than the car!
The guy yelling at that poor V6 “you will run. This is not optional.” Reminded me of sitting outside at 3AM 12 beers in yelling at my ‘05 Trailblazer with tools all over the place. I cracked a 13th and called in sick the next day after the third bolt snapped
a GM motor will run poorly....... longer than a Ford motor will run perfectly . i have a BIG soft spot for the GM 60 degree v6..... (2.8...3.1...3.4....3.5....3.9) they are the EASIEST motors i have ever worked on . like a water pump takes 10 mins remove 4 bolts for the pulley.... remove 5 or 6 for the pump reassemble . . and the water pump is not in the center (like on a 350/351/360) its "divorced" from the engine.... . so its up high.... and the closest pulley to the radiator on a FWD car like... you dont have to remove 50 fucking things to get at it . meanwhile.... on a ford.... ya gotta pull the cab off the frame to get to the water pump because they decided to mount it on the back of the engine and use a jack shaft and 5 timing chains to drive it . . yes.... thats a shot at the Ford 4.0 OHC engine what a peice of shit . not sure whats worse..... the 5.4 3V with the fucked spark plugs or the 4.0 OHC with its 53 timing chains
These little 2.8s, they're tough little cookies. If that bottom end was left alone, that thing wouldn't have died. It may have thrown a rod, but it would've kept tickin
That motor got a bad rap.no pun intended.I had one in my '87 S10 I bought brand new and put 200k on it doing burnouts and beating it mercilessly everyday.

man.... i love the 2.8 it developed into the 3.1......3.4......3.5..... and 3.9 . all of which are TOUGH little engines . they might lifter tick..... oh ya do the 3.1/3.4s lifter tick!!! they might need LIM and head gaskets at 200K and 300K miles, respectively . . but ive got a 3.1 in a 99 buick century with 320,000 miles...... and its NEVER left me stranded it even has TWO!!!crank position sensors..... so when that failed, it still got me home 99.97% of cars only have one..... and if it fails.... the engine IMMEDIATELY shuts down . . and because its a GM..... 20 bucks.... 1 bolt.... and 10 mins later.... it was fixed 90% of GM issues.... is a 20 dollar sensor that takes 10 mins to replace . while ford..... its a 3000 dollar timing chain, guides, phasers, ETC its never a sensor.... its MAJOR mechanical sections . and on a dodge.... ya just replace the whole motor.... because that 5.7 hemis design flawed lifter angle sent metal threw the whole block . . . . . anyway..... GM 60 degree V6 engines...... are VERY underrated everyone LOVES the buick 3.8 (aka, 3800) . but while the 3.1 makes WAY less power.... and gets worse MPG they are still tough little engines . and they are WAY WAY WAY easier to work on than a 3.8 water pump LITERALLY takes 10 mins...... vs 2 hours on a 3.8 . . . and i wish the aftermarket supported the 60 degree more they have a forged crank, rods, and pistons from the factory (which is why they piston slap when cold.... the piston needs to heat and expand to fit) . GM says the 3.1 can run at 7000RPM all day long so you could probably hit 7500 every once in a while..... such as a 1/4 mile drag application . . yet their is no aftermarket intake.... heads.... exhaust manifolds/headers..... . . in stock form they are 160HP and 185 foot pounds but at 4200RPM.... the intake runners hits its tune frequency.... and the power comes on like a light switch / 2 stroke and it really does feel more like 190hp..... than 160 . . the angled push rods.... allowing for "full size" ports (not blocked like the mopar 340/360 engines.... due to push rod running threw the intake runner) the forged crank / rods / pistons 60 degrees = perfectly balanced . . like.... these little motors could probably make 1.2+ horse power per cubic inch (3.1 = 189.174 cubes) . with proper heads, intake, and headers..... i bet you could get 210HP from a 3.1 V6 and then add a turbo.... and watch the numbers FLY!!!!! . . . . . . . . . TLDR...... the GM 3.1 / 3.4 is a very underrated engine they just do their job for 100,000s of miles.... so no one wants to modify them . not many engines can take the abuse and neglect..... and still run as good as a 3.1 a poor running GM will still run better than a ford/dodge motor with the exact same issues......... if the ford engine runs at all!!! . . . and if they had proper aftermarket support..... i bet you would see quite a few of them in drag racing and road course circuits light, compact, have a DAMN good stock bottom end.... . . like... the only difference between a 3.1 and a LS......2 cylinders and 30 degrees of bank angle they would respond to "power adders" just like the LS/LT does
04:55 very non-french of you!
d'accord
Effectivement
That has to be the best running 2.8 I’ve ever seen, even on 4&5 cylinders 😂🤣
It was one of the best at first, and at the end it became pretty average.
My 1982 Chevy Citation purrs like a kitten!
Those spark plugs breaking like that made me think of why they stopped using rivets on tank hulls. Shots used to hit the rivets and the rivet would shear off on the inside of the tanks and bounce around killing and harming the occupants.
I love the flames from the backfire out the carbuetor popping right up by the gas tank 🤣👍🏻
You dont need to worry about it setting the whole skid steer on fire...

Perfect thing when your bored.
You're, however I totally agree 👍
The impressive thing is that the 2.8 was running to begin with
Exactly! Just like a 6.0 power stroke.
The old “sick point ohh” series wouldn’t last as long as this POS.
You make this unepic by not having a fuel pump, add a fuel pump so it can keep getting fuel!

Yeah I own a 87 celebrity euro 2.8 239,000 miles still going strong and another s10 2.8 motor 337,000
“She might be stubborn but that doesn’t mean we are giving up” never change
Nothing says fun like metal confetti 🎊
Find a short stroke sbc 265 283 or 327 ive always heard from old timers 283's 327's were tough as nails time to prove it.
Keep up the content awesome haven't seen any in a while love seeing motors blow up wit sum hotsauce.

Best Chevrolet engine ever! How dare you destroy it!!
Makes me miss the two Camaros and the jeep I had!
Basically he taught me that if your down on two you still got four left hell yea
Thanks for the glorious video Sawed-Off - brings some great laughs to my day!
A man i like those old 2.8s
My S10 is living vicariously through you.
a GM motor will run poorly....... longer than a Ford motor will run perfectly
.
i have a BIG soft spot for the GM 60 degree v6..... (2.8...3.1...3.4....3.5....3.9)
they are the EASIEST motors i have ever worked on

like a water pump takes 10 mins
remove 4 bolts for the pulley....
remove 5 or 6 for the pump
reassemble
.
.
and the water pump is not in the center (like on a 350/351/360)
its "divorced" from the engine....
.
so its up high.... and the closest pulley to the radiator on a FWD car
like... you dont have to remove 50 fucking things to get at it
.
meanwhile.... on a ford.... ya gotta pull the cab off the frame to get to the water pump
because they decided to mount it on the back of the engine
and use a jack shaft and 5 timing chains to drive it
.
.
yes.... thats a shot at the Ford 4.0 OHC engine
what a peice of shit
.
not sure whats worse..... the 5.4 3V with the fucked spark plugs
or the 4.0 OHC with its 53 timing chains
These little 2.8s, they're tough little cookies. If that bottom end was left alone, that thing wouldn't have died. It may have thrown a rod, but it would've kept tickin
Either convert the ignition to points or put a high end ignition kit. The old HEI's freaked out after 5500 rpms or so.
You crazy sawed off frenchman! ...that poor dumptima batrey lol
I got a Buick with the 3.1, basically the same as a 2.8. 280k miles on it send it to 5500 every day no signs of stopping yet.
Most reliable 2.8 to hit the road lmaoooooo
Just stupid. Give it to someone who could use it for something
That motor got a bad rap.no pun intended.I had one in my '87 S10 I bought brand new and put 200k on it doing burnouts and beating it mercilessly everyday.
Actually the 2.8 is a reliable engine but I enjoyed this
You don't even need to worry about the carb benching flame onto the gas can!
That backfire tho, mint!!!
The blowtorch down the carb was awesome. Haha. Take that sukka.
That starter sounds upset with the flywheel
That thing has got to the be the highest revving OHV engine on the planet.
Best thing to do before scrap, have some fun!
That is a great shot of it coming apart 👍👌
Another Canadian videya tonight !!!! What a treat :)
My favorite Frenchman is back
I have a vague memory of skid steer front screens are really expensive. Well dodged and excellent content 👍
Edit.....
Had to watch it twice😀😀
Damn 2x4 spacer fucking mint. Might have to add one to my rig.
2 cly 2.8 ran better than the six I had years ago.
I love seeing old chevys get there final breath and die in epic fashion
It's a friggin Chev💪 missed ya bud!
A moment of silence for my s10. So many serpentine belts made from a garden hose
Where ya been bud? Keep'em comin
What is that carb? I need one for my pos that won’t run
Please hook up a tachometer to these things!
Love these vids maan!

but ive got a 3.1 in a 99 buick century with 320,000 miles...... and its NEVER left me stranded
it even has TWO!!!crank position sensors..... so when that failed, it still got me home
99.97% of cars only have one..... and if it fails.... the engine IMMEDIATELY shuts down
.
.
and because its a GM..... 20 bucks.... 1 bolt.... and 10 mins later.... it was fixed
90% of GM issues.... is a 20 dollar sensor that takes 10 mins to replace
.
while ford..... its a 3000 dollar timing chain, guides, phasers, ETC
its never a sensor.... its MAJOR mechanical sections

and on a dodge.... ya just replace the whole motor.... because that 5.7 hemis design flawed lifter angle sent metal threw the whole block

GM says the 3.1 can run at 7000RPM all day long
so you could probably hit 7500 every once in a while..... such as a 1/4 mile drag application
.
.
yet their is no aftermarket intake.... heads.... exhaust manifolds/headers.....
.
.
in stock form they are 160HP and 185 foot pounds
but at 4200RPM.... the intake runners hits its tune frequency.... and the power comes on like a light switch / 2 stroke
and it really does feel more like 190hp..... than 160
.
.
the angled push rods.... allowing for "full size" ports (not blocked like the mopar 340/360 engines.... due to push rod running threw the intake runner)
the forged crank / rods / pistons
60 degrees = perfectly balanced
.
.
like.... these little motors could probably make 1.2+ horse power per cubic inch (3.1 = 189.174 cubes)
.
with proper heads, intake, and headers..... i bet you could get 210HP from a 3.1 V6
and then add a turbo.... and watch the numbers FLY!!!!!

TLDR...... the GM 3.1 / 3.4 is a very underrated engine
they just do their job for 100,000s of miles.... so no one wants to modify them
.
not many engines can take the abuse and neglect..... and still run as good as a 3.1
a poor running GM will still run better than a ford/dodge motor with the exact same issues......... if the ford engine runs at all!!!
.
.
.
and if they had proper aftermarket support..... i bet you would see quite a few of them in drag racing and road course circuits
light, compact, have a DAMN good stock bottom end....
.
.
like... the only difference between a 3.1 and a LS......2 cylinders and 30 degrees of bank angle
they would respond to "power adders" just like the LS/LT does
Don't let Dodge fanboys hear you say anything but praises about the 5.7
The epic failure of that engine started with its introduction into society.
Worst. Engine. Ever.
It'd make great yard art. 😂
I came to say the same thing.
Yard art? Lol, bring down the property value,🤣😂
Its a good engine
@@GundamZero5 🙄
This is not optional.
I'm going to use that everywhere now
How much lunacy? All of it.
HELL YEA!
I think you need a 24 V starting system
It’s just a 2.8L “long block” now
Ahhh i love vehicle destruction. Now i have more than just Neutral Drop as my fix lol
Sounds like it’s hitting the rev limiter and cutting the engine. However the starter sounds funny like. Citroen 2cv trying to start.
Somebody get this guy a TV.
Why not series 2 batts for 24V and make that starter earn its money?
The star of the show was the wooden throttle body spacer.....
How much safety did you bring? None, none of it
Nice skidsteer!
Now that's funny right there, Hoss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't forget to get your chains off that piece of shit before you take it to the scrapyard!
Loveyēr vids dude👌

Rainin’ Chevy! Thanks!
I hate when people ruin engines that appear to be good runners
