      Scotty Kilmer I have a Dodge Charger 2008 2.7 engine, I had a problem with the solenoid pack it was replaced but the light turns back on with the same solenoid code and the car does the same thing, it doesn’t let the transmission change the gears. The mechanic told me that it might be the pcm! What do you think?

      Scotty can you make a video about people altering the odometer of older cars. I have a 2001 Toyota Camry that is practically bullet proof...it was 156k when I got it, but after Carfax was notified of a change in ownership I got an email of the need update the service record. I was stunned to find out that the last record on Carfax shows the car had over 260k on it. I was shocked to say the least. Pls touch on this issue.

    The 2.2 Ecotec isn’t a bad engine. It’s owners who don’t take care of the vehicle. My dad races these cars, and while I have seen a few with timing chain issues, I’ve seen a lot of them that have had 250,000 miles on them and ran great. Their pretty reliable engines and are easy to work on.

    • @wasatchm

    • @Rob-tn8to
      @Rob-tn8to 8 месяцев назад +2

      Don't agree with Scotty at all on the 2.2L Ecotec. Might be an interference engine, but at least a timing chain will give you some warning before it simply breaks. Timing belts might be a different story.
      Also, who cares about the V8-6-4 from 40+ years ago! Very few were produced and only for a short time. Pretty sure it didn't impact too many people.
      How about we talk about the lousy fuel economy of the Toyota Tundra or even the Tacoma V6?

    • @user-hn9ln4ex6k
      @user-hn9ln4ex6k 8 месяцев назад

      @Rob-tn8to What if I told you that some mechanics actually have the nerve to tell you that you don't need to worry about a timing belt if your car isn't running poorly via symptoms that a worn out belt might produce. And that you don't have to worry about replacing it until that point, you don't need a timing belt.
      Great advice, huh?

    • @hakeemsd70m
      @hakeemsd70m 5 лет назад +10

      The only trash thing about Northstar engines is the owners that mistreat them, like skipping the 40K mile coolant flush and letting the coolant eat away at the head gaskets. I see old school Northstar Devilles, Sevilles, and even Allante drops a daily basis, and the Northstar was in production from 1992-2011 and still holds the record for the longest-production Cadillac engine of all-time. Caddy must have done something right...

    • @LHRxHassassin
      @LHRxHassassin 5 лет назад +16

      I work at a GM dealership and just about every single vehicle that I have ever worked on that has the Northstar engine is currently leaking. Very rarely do I see a Northstar that isnt leaking. It's to the point where if we know the vehicle has a Northstar engine it's almost a guarantee I'm going to recommend an engine leak repair. Sometimes even complete engine reseals.

    My grandparents gave me their old 2000 Buick Century with the 3.1L V6 and I commuted in that car for many many years. That car was super reliable and smooth, I could almost fall asleep in it. It felt like I was driving on a cloud and it was so quiet inside. It drove like a boat and it felt like it could roll over when making sharp turns.
    But boy was it a great cruiser on the highway. It's perfectly quiet inside at 70 mph, and I got good gas mileage. It wasn't a sports car by any means, but if you put he petal to the floor, it had decent passing power. But above all, it has been extremely reliable. The engine has never had any problems whatsoever and I always did routine maintenance and oil changes regularly. It did shift a little sloppy, but that's to be expected for a car aimed at older people. It's easy to drive, way more comfortable than a lot of modern cars I've been in, and just keeps on driving.
    I got it from my grandparents when it only had 80,000 miles. They had another newer Buick that they drove, so they gave me their old one.
    And sure, the Buick Century is not the sporty electronic filled stylish cars you see today. Far from it. But I don't care. It's just me and the car with no electronic garbage between us. And that's what I like about it. There's plenty of room under the hood for me to work on it. Parts are dirt cheap and can be found at junk yards for pennies. But the only things I have done to it is replace a blown brake line, replace the air filter box, and flush the coolant system. That's it, seriously! And it's 19 years old and still going strong. It has just been routine oil changes.
    The engine is the GM 3.1L V6 3100 SFI making around 175 HP which is plenty for a commuter vehicle. It's no race car, but it has power to spare when passing cars in the highway and getting up to speed quickly.
    I'm still daily driving that car and I'll keep driving it until it either blows up or turns to dust, whichever comes first. The old Buick cars are very underrated in my opinion, and I'm surprised that not many people my age truly appreciate the "old people cars" and luxury sedans like these. I can drive to work in comfort and I have so much room to stretch my legs and relax while driving. A lot of newer cars I've driven can handle much better and are probably faster, but their ride quality is harsh and you feel ever crack in the road. The old Buick goes over bumps like it doesn't even exist. And that old Buick can still accelerate pretty quickly and sounds pretty good with that 4-speed automatic.

    I had that Chrysler 2.7 motor in my 2000 Dodge Intrepid...beautiful car, garbage motor. People had nothing but good things to say about the 3.5 for that car, so I bought a 2010 Charger with the 3.5 in 2012. Ran great for a while but had to replace the rocker arms (design flaw led to premature failure) and then at around 149,000 miles the rings went and I was burning a quart of oil a day. Ended up getting a 2017 Durango in October of 2017...AC died at 45,000 miles. I’ll never buy another Chrysler product again.

    I owned a VW Passat with a 1.8 turbo. From day one, I used synthetic oil against the advisement of the service tech at the dealership. A local Northeast Ohio VW tuner advised me to do so. That engine ran for a really long time without any problems. A year later, the Volkswagen dealership had a sign behind the service writer that indicated, only synthetic oil would be used in the 1.8 turbo engines.
    The major issue with the engine in the Audi A4 and Passat was, they were mounted longitudinally. That same engine in the Golf/Jetta platform, was mounted transversely. The longitudinal engines had a smaller capacity oil pans because there was less room. The oil in the longitudinally mounted engines did not have the proper amount of time to cool in the oil pan after leaving the turbo. From what I understand, that is what caused the sludge issue.

I do the same thing on a 2000 Toyota Camry as I have done on all my cars since I got over 30 years old. I was aways a Chevy man. I had a new 74 Monte Carlo 454. Of course I drove it fast and hard on the highway because it was fun but after a spun bearing and a new engine and transmission I learned. I have babied my cars ever since.
