My 2008 Toyota Aurion v6 engine excellent. Transmission brilliant
For sure! I Like the car but want to test shocks at least and probably get off that boat pretty soon

Toyota owes this man a lot of money.
Toyota works really hard to get mentioned by an experienced mechanics.

He’s right. Naturally aspirated is much better on engine than turbo. Long term.
I wish Lexus will hire him as a boss of "Lexus USA"

Can agree with the 3800 mention. 98 Le Sabre owner, bought to flip. Fell in love with it instead. Tons of room to work on it, nothing in the way of trans/engine fluid pans. Only had to clean the throttle body and MAF. Runs like a champ.
GM made an incredible 3800 V6, 1992-2008 3.8L series 1,2 and 3... the best part was how easy these were to work on! Like the old school engines
How about the GM 3.6 V6 used in the Buick LaCrosse?

Old 3.8 L Buick Engines were bullet proof. That was when GM cared about quality
Ive had 3 of these, sold one, still ran strong at 145k, one is in my daily (92k, 30mpg highway) , and I'm rebuilding one out of a totaled buick
I currently have a '98 Lesabre with 190k, a 2005 Lesabre with about 116k, and a 2007 Lucerne with less than 50k. Not problem free, but the last reliable motors that GM made. That's why they stopped making them. They last too long.
Great engine
Meand theMrs my Lumina 3100 has 125k on it and runs like new.
I have a 98 Buick Riviera with the 3800 Series II Supercharged V-6. Spectacular engine, easy to work on, I expensive parts, always cranks easily and runs smoothly. I not care for the the high stressing turbocharge engines but this supercharger seems to not stress the engine to bad.
Scotty: THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for all of your comments videos and informed opinions. I believe everything you convey and I'm following your advice. My Honda Accord EX 2006, 2.4, has stood me in good Steed for the last 10 years. I worked in toyota engine factory in japan. They are very precise on they parts. And they do check every hour for the quality of the parts.

Fun fact: mitsubishi made the worlds smallest production v6. The 6a10 was a 1.6 liter v6 found in the mitsubishi lancer mx saloon, but my favorite small v6 is the engine above the 6a10, its the 2 liter 6a12. It was found in the mitsubishi fto it has an 8000rpm redline, 200hp, and with the right exhaust, it can sing a beautiful song.
No Honda shoutout? J32’s and J35’s were amazing, smooth and powerful.
Forever Subaru not to mention the lesser known C35A which NEVER had issues besides EGR. But everything he said in the beginning of this video about how V6’s should be, he literally described the C35A. It was in the Acura RL. Look it up
Most definitely! HONDA all the way. My civic went to 380k miles until someone turned in front of me. Now I drive a first gen Honda Pilot with a V6 J35 A engine. J Series v6 is by far the best v6 ever made. Extremely reliable, easy to work on, versatile enough for cars to suvs. Only downsides is the fuel economy isn't quite as good as more modern v6s, and when they started doing the stupid VCM they started burning oil like every other cylinder deactivation engines.
@Carter Thiessen, I have ongoing good experiences with the Honda J Series motors. I’ve had Hondas & Acuras with the 3.0L, the 3.2L, and a couple of the 3.5L models. The J32A3 on my ‘06 TL is going strong w/o issues, and delivers 32 mpg on the highway w/o burning oil. The only downside is the use of timing belts that must be replaced every 100K miles or so.

Scotty, I am not surprised. When Japanese workers hit the factory, they worry about dishonoring their ancestors. What do our workers worry about? The Kardashians?
Ayyyy how else am I supposed to get through the work day
The Americans worry about the same things, if they build a good car they would dishonor their ancestors
Lmfao. Touché
Not me, but a lot of Americans
You do realize that most Toyota/Lexus vehicles are built in the US by US workers?
Yes. They are built by US workers who have to conform to the Japanese philosophy of working. The hiring process is very selective, and those who fail to fit in are culled out. Many powertrain components are built in Japan and shipped to the US, because the Japanese consider these components to be too important to the success of the vehicle to allow them to be made by the Gaijin. In polite conversation, that word means "foreigner," but to the Japanese, it means "barbarian."
I bought a 2012 Chrysler 300c V6 with 8 speed. (Australia) 12 years later, still driving that same car.
Just drove it for 3 hours and that baby just purrs. Plenty of power for me.. Very economical on highway and a nice quiet ride.
My personal experience is awesome. Not sure why you rated it as "avoid". I am elderly, so feather the accelerator and go easy on braking. Maybe my driving style preserved my old V6 Chrysler. Get amazing mileage out of tyres. The first battery lasted 7 years. No repairs in 12 years, just services.

It's quiet, efficient, powerful and reliable. I'll take a Mitsubishi every time!
I felt like I was alone in my liking for the Mitsubishi V6s of the 90s, especially the one in the Diamante. Even in SOHC, it's a freaking smoothie.
Hey Scotty, first off I would like to say, I watch your videos faithfully and I appreciate what you are doing for people looking for more TRUE info on cars. I'm looking to buy a used toyota or Lexus no older than 2013. I'm just not sure which of the newer models would be more reliable. Preferably a V6 engine. Just can't make an educated decision yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! Til then rev up your engines!!!! 💪
Thanks for sharing this video 👏👏👏👏👏 heavy trucks greetings from Portugal 💪💪💪
Got me a 26 year old ford 3.0 Vulcan v6. It's the second one I've had and they have been great engines!
I was waiting for Scotty to say: "today I am gonna give away my wife's Lexus"... 😂😂😂😂🖒
I love Scotty’s videos he reminds me of my uncle from Massachusetts he was my best friend RIP
I like your presentations. Very nice and informative. I purchased a 2009 Camry XLE new and it has 124,000 miles as of December 31st, 2019. It has the 2GR-FE engine and runs like new. I have been tempted to get the newer redesigned Camry but I think I will keep my 2009 for awhile longer. It is long paid off and sill looks like new inside. The dealer in Mobile, Alabama provided a lifetime powertrain warranty if I keep the car. That says something in itself. Toyota is sure of it's engines. And yes the old GM 3800 engines were good. I worked on a few of those. I have a muscle car hobby.
I agree Toyota makes the best engines by far. 500,000 miles and still feels like new.
Wow.
Dan az. Drive a new car, then make that same statement. I said the same thing, 275,000 Accord. When I drove a new one, I was like Oh, okay. Then I bought a new car.
Yep toyoace lite truck 698000km and hiace van 650000km
Honda does don't @ me
Kovačević Dobrina No problem, buy Toyota, and stick the Honda engine in it.
Had a 1999 Toyota Solara SE-V6 and it was a beast. Good mileage, rock solid, was speed limited to 137 mph. Sold it because the cloth seats were fart saturated.
pennise lulz
Haha, haven't you ever used a carpet cleaner machine that has an upholstery cleaner attachment ?
@@overthemountain1009 My essence easily defeated the carpet cleaning machine, its chemicals and attachments. Hence the need to sell the vehicle.
Which cars are not?
LMAO !!!!!!
I have a 97 ford ranger xlt extended cab side step automatic with a V6 3.0l and I am surprised of how good it is with gas and it is holdng up good so far. Going to haul a small load of wood for a good test. A good fixer upper. The transmission was almost about to fail but the father in-law n I saved it 😁
Your videos are great 👍 You help people from getting suckered by the shady automotive industry.
Lexus V6s are very reliable.
(Toyota)
the 3 liter in my 2000 es300 has 171,000 miles and seems to have many issues. knock sensors, vvt intake valve selenoid, terrible valve adjustment ticking, etc. I'm riding this ticking time bomb til she blows.
@Andrew Smith what brand would you recommend?
The GS 350 is the best car on the planet.
2jz > v6
Yes Toyota has a very good V6 engine. However, I believe that Honda makes a great V6 engine as well. You can't go wrong with either one,
I agree with you on the trainny but the V6 engines are just as good.
Corey Eanes Thank you Corey. Trannys were hit or miss with the J-series but the J series itself has been solid pretty much since its premier in the 97 3.0CL. And I’ll pass in Lexus V6. The J35 in my TLX is fantastic on both fuel economy and performance.
yeah, but Honda V6s still use timing belts which must be replaced around 100k miles. Toyota V6s switched from timing belts to chains in their 2gr engines around 2004
Gaskets for vtec go bad and crack, lots of oil leaks
Agreed
I have an 07 camry 6 cyl with over 150k miles, specifically the 2gr-fe engine. I love it, smooth, powerful, and extremely well designed. Its one of the best engines toyota made and glad I chose it over the 4 cyl camry. The longevity of the engine is proven to last forever as long you maintain it properly. There are camry's and lexus es350's with this specific 6 cyl engine clocked over 400k miles and no issues.
I have a Ford 500 Limited FWD, 3.0L 4V, V6 Duratec with 225k miles and it runs like new. Bought the car for $1750 almost 2 years ago. Drive it daily and not one problem yet!! 15 years old!! Not a spec of rust, 5 new 255/55R18's. All oil changes were documented. It was owned by an older couple and they kept EVERYTHING!! Incredible condition for a 2005 Scotty!! I know this car was never beat on and has a lot of highway miles. They drove from Tennessee to Ohio often they told me. They were asking $2000 and dropped to $1750 when they saw I was a Veteran which was very nice of them. I wasn't even going to haggle!! Thanks for your videos Scotty. You have saved many people much money and stress!!
My dad Got an 06 Avalon that has 400k and running great and no issues. My daily is a 14 Camry SE Sport with 60k miles so far
You got an issue with issues.
His statement has too many issues.😳
Damn that’s a lot of issues
Ah, he edited it. We’re just having fun dude, no offense.😢
L S it’s all good. I can’t tell over text 😂😂
Scotty picks the Toyota,,,, who saw that coming?
Cause their the best! :-)
@@kingavegarage8722 Absolutely not.
Lexus and Toyota are the best Hands down.
@@dakotabelcher9988 Let me guess your a chevy guy?
From several miles away.
The Toyota MZ V6 engine has legendary reliably
I'm also a mechanic and I have seen old Camrys and Avalons with 400k miles on the original engine and they run beautifully
Also Honda's J Series V6 is just as reliable as any engine Toyota has made
More powerful than the MZ and still in production since the 90s
I have a 22 year old ford explorer with the 4.0 cologne engine. Never been fixed or tinkered and still starts like like charm. I feel like Ford V6 were super reliable in the 90's especially on the trucks.
I'm so glad I found this channel!!! Entertained and schooled at the same time😊👍

❤ My Toyota Camry .248.000 miles & runs like new.
My 2002 Grand Caravan with its 3.3 V6 had over 300,000 miles on it and ran great when I sold it. If you do the required maintenance on any vehicle, then it should last.
I bet your back hurts like hell on those uncomfortable seats. Try Volvo’s and you will find out how horrible your seats are.
@@meenam300zx Can you lay a 4'x8' plywood sheet down in the back of your Volvo? Actually the seats in our Grand Caravan were very comfortable, plus I would not buy a Volvo at any price because I retired from Chrysler, plus I got ten grand discount on the minivan. I believe in buying what you build, especially on a new vehicle.
@Grieg Ragen It had 300,000 + miles on it and still ran fine when I sold it. If you do the required maintenance on most any vehicles, then they will last.
No surprise bro
Scotty I have a 2015 Genesis sedan 3.8 litre V6 .I run mobile1, oil exclusively .l'm not gentle on my cars . Thus got 32 mpg on a trip from N.J. to Tennessee, and trip from N J. to Folly beach S.C.
The car has more than sufficient power ..l love this thing ..
According to to the ASE, after reviewing all the data, the best and most reliable V6s, are the 2014 and later, Pentastar V6s. Even the 2011-2013 models had a less than 1% failure rate, with even those that had the cylinder head problems, still ran, though at lower power and efficiency.
One of the best V6 Engines ever made Scotty for hard work is the GM 4.3, sure not very economical, but good torque and lots of them around that have turned over twice. I will agree with you on the Toyota/Alexus V6’s. But overall I’ve had great service and fun with GM 3.6.
Haven’t even watched but I’m guessing it’s going to be a Toyota because it’s Scotty.
Edit: Ding Ding Ding! I was right!!
And because they are the best
Hes a hardcore mechanic lol they know what good quality engines are and toyota makes the best, sure maybe not the most exotic or powerful but they will last you almost forever and hardly give you any issues
Because Toyota is the best. Deal with it.
Woah there guys. I never said anything bad about Toyota’s engines. All I said was judging by Scotty’s videos, that Toyota would be his choice. So... stop.
The International Spokesman For Toyota Motor Company
3 litre AJ-V6 in my 2003 Jag XJ is still silky smooth at 17 years old with 110k miles on it.
238bhp from a stock normally aspirated, port injected 3 litre engine is still impressive today.
Jag xk8 4.0 v8 very smooth as well. Nice engines.
Scotty,
I’ve never owned a Lexus but I have a 1996 LeSabre with 118k miles. This thing is absolutely beautiful. Solid underneath and the exterior is near mint. Yes, it’s old…I’ve replaced all the suspension, water pump, PS pump, serpentine belt, subframe bushings, brakes and valve cover gaskets. My wife’s uncle had this car and changed the oil every 6 months with only about 2-3k miles in that time. Yes, I’ve put money in it but this thing is cherry and I’m hoping it lasts another 25-30 years. I absolutely love this car and use it to just run errands to keep miles off of our other vehicles.
It will last that long thoes motors are bullet proof. I have a 99 regal gs (supercharged) and I beat the hell out of it
@@ndivine1511 that is great to hear. I absolutely love this car. I’ve learned so much about this motor after obtaining this vehicle. I’ve heard some say that it is the closest thing ever made to a Toyota engine. This car looks like it’s brand new and I often forget it’s 27 years old.
the GM 3800 series lll is the best V6 ever made...yes i have one. smooth, relatively good on gas if you drive the speed limit. good power and stone reliable.
3800s are ok but they have a lot of small bullshit problems that are usually cheap and easy to fix. I have a series 3 and other than the cooling system being atrociously unreliable, the engine itself runs great.
I had a Pontiac Trans Sport with the 3800 engine. I took it to about 297,000 miles. Great engine, but it had a bad oil leak. Ultimately it was the transmission and other smaller problems that made me retire that van.
Im still running my supercharged 3800 series2, 365000kms and runs strong still. HD 4 spd auto is starting to go though. Maybe I'll put the engine in my cavalier 😄
@@Jscot1001 not from the motors from poor wiring harness.

I drive a 3.8 v6 lambda series in a Kia Opirus From 11 years from the box and receive Good maintenance and never fail ... And now I going to 140, 000miles
And still making to 60 mph in 6.3 sec ..
I don't BELIEVE in brands I believe in maintenance.
My 2017 GMC Acadia V6 is great. 20mpg city and up to 28 on the highway. Smooth. Quiet. And 310 hp. I’m on my 2nd one and just love it.
The 2gr-fe is a great v6 and reliable. The only problem is the engine sits sideways in the engine bay. So half of the spark plugs and ignition coils are easy to access, but the other half 😅 well you have to take off the wiper tray, air intake, and intake manifold. That is the only down side to these engines. Other than that I have a 2005 Toyota Avalon that has over 225,000 miles. It’s a solid engine with normal maintenance and when you use premium gas you can feel the 280 hp this engine lets out
Scotty Is a 100% correct the best Bang for The Buck by far is a 2007-2013 Lexus ES 350 when it comes to a luxury sedan. We drive a used Ultra Luxury model. 90% of the people think we pay far more for our cars than we really do. If you look for a deal you can find a ES350 that was close to $50K new for $10K. It will have under 100,000 miles and if you drive it normally you can get 8 to 10 trouble free years of service out of them if not much more!
I have a 1988 Nissan Desert Runner truck which has a V6 engine in it. I know it's not a newer V6 but I have 384866 miles on the odometer and the truck still runs like a charm. I only had to take it to the shop 1 time for some minor emission problem💃
I've had no problems with my 2006 Pontiac Grand prix, transmission is perfectly fine. It becomes an issue with the supercharged 3800 and especially they V8 GXP. They used the same transmission in the V8 as they did the V6. Result was the transmission couldn't handle the power and now ALL Grand Prix's from 2006-2008 have a bad reputation.
that’s not really true, they used beefed up trannys in those, just not enough. Also think about the average grand prix driver vs toyota camry😅
Thank you Scott I love you buddy love watch your videos I have a interceptor to Love it
My Toyota Camry Se has the same V6 engine. Awesome engine on an awesome car.
"They're really serious about building their engines in Japan" Except for the Supra
The Toyota 86 engine dont last that long either just good enough to pass 100k miles
toyota doesn't like making sports cars apparently anymore so they just outsourced it to bmw for the supra
@@lucifer1978b Subaru builds those boxer engines tho.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Except they're not, Toyota and Lexus 4s and V6s are made in Buffalo, WEST VIRGINIA at Toyota Motor Manufacturing.
Scotty said something good about GM. It is a miracle. The GM V6 3800 is a solid engine but the series 3 is said to be the best. Only sold on some Pontiac and Buick models.
