I am a mechanical engineer, what memories to see those beautiful machines, lathes, milling machines, grinding machines ... I graduated from technical college and we were taught to use those beautiful machines ... today by the advancement of technology everything is CNC but the one who learned to make any mechanical part with those beautiful machines MY RESPECT.

та ладно, проволока самый точный индикатор =), а на пост советском пространстве остались единицы токарей нормальных, остальные халтуру гонят похлеще этих трудяг
It comes to my mind that if you took these men and put them into a factory where there was cleanliness and the correct tooling with an update quality control department, they would be considered very valuable employees. Oh yeah, a concrete floor would be nice too. I can't imagine doing this type of machining on a dirt floor.
And imagine yourself in their place and a dummy falls on your leg, a scream and a hubbub, an Indian comes running and bandages the wound with his shirt, and no hospitalization, tomorrow again to the machine with a swollen leg and a crutch.

They are absolutely amazing..they can even fix a broken shaft bring it back to original specifications where as for other's a broken crank shaft is condemned...
I would take that broken crankshaft that you think is so great that they fixed & use it for a boat anchor. I would NEVER use a crankshaft that was repaired after being broken. No matter if they did their best work on it, i would NEVER use a crankshaft like that in any engine i own, or rebuild. You will NEVER get a broken crankshaft to be true, it will never hold up to a new one. You're better just to condemn a broken crankshaft & get a new one.

@@nobuckle40 Well said, Doug. You can see the run out in the crank casting as it turns. When I was regrinding cranks we had a .0002 taper/.0005 out of round limit. I would love to see the result of putting a dial indicator on one of these “precision” cranks just to see how bad they are.
@@trebushett2079 Not exactly the way I was taught many eons ago. We were taught to use the method you describe as an initial set up. For precision work, we would set the work up with a dial indicator on both ends of the work. Our tolerance was .002-.003.
They worked with a good quality with mechanics and manpower. I think that as the company's profits increase, they can buy more modern machines and improve the production process more. To make this kind of progress, they will need expert engineers and managers. Strong arms need smart minds...!!

as a lathe operator I can only advise. you better use safety glass and masker to protect yourself when turning cast iron. protect yourself, it's a very valuable asset.

It's an interesting look at where we came from. I sell modern equipment and get a kick out of watching these guys work. They are skilled for sure but I cringe at the thought of driving a vehicle with one of these cranks. I'm guessing domestic diesel truck crankshafts for low RPM. Just like the workers, they get the job done though. Respect.

Для ремонта своих авто пойдет, они даже обломанные КВ ремонтируют. Хотя у них есть оборудование и для ковки. Можно было бы еще закалять шейки, но видимо выгодней их дешевле производить и ремонтировать КВ по такой технологии.
Good work. One thing was bothering me. I saw the oiling bores but there are no oiling channels bringing oil to the bearings from the oil pump? Howw is that possible?
From the machining chips the material of crank shaft seems to be a cast iron, not a steel. Original crank shafts are usually made with a forged high carbon steel, forged Cr-Mo steel or forged Ni-Cr steel. Regardless of machining degree of precision, I am not sure if the cast iron can withstand the running load and will not deform due to casting stress.
After machining, I can see that these shafts are cast iron, you can see from the chip cutting, they are cast iron. I don't see a dial gauge for centering, just tentacles. Such a shaft is unbalanced and will vibrate, fall apart, for which these cast iron shafts can be used. You praise machines in the comments, but this work is improvisation, how to do something right, although in difficult conditions. I also machined crankshafts on such machines, I also do not see the journals of ground and inductively improved surfaces and here I see only turned surfaces. I am also an engineer only in the field of machining and metallurgy,

hand held measuring gauges are only off during extreme changes in the shops ,temps, this walking barefoot and no gloves or face masks isnt cool

У них оснащение - типичное для советского завода, мотивация лучше (трезвые, работают за деньги, а не за лозунги).

Думаю, что закалка будет на другом этапе(месте), у нас была в другом цехе.

Regardless of machining degree of precision, I am not sure if the cast iron can withstand the running load and will not deform due to casting stress.

those 4 holes drilled on those two flat machined surfacse must be there for adding weight to balance the crank plus its a diesel crank
