    Thanks for this video. I had checked vacuum lines to the solendiod switch and vacuum diaphram on the secondary air valve, but forgot to check whether the diaphram on the secondary air valve itself would hold vacuum with my Mighty Vac tester. Air output also seemed weaker than air input on the secondary air valve from the electric air pump, but some air was getting through with the air pump on at engine startup. Given your comment about being able to hold 690mBar, I think I found the problem as I only get momentary vacuum gauge needle deflection to about 5 inches and the vacuum collapses before the next hand pump cycle from the Might Vac to the vacuum diaphram vacuum port. Multiple hand pump cycles do not build vacuum on the vacuum diaphram valve. So the vacuum diaphram in the secondary air contro valve must have failed. Given this vacuum test result and your info, I will change out the secondary air valve before pulling the exhaust manifold for air port cleaning. Vehicle is a 2001 Saturn SW2.

      I was hearing a exhaust leak when I started up my D2 and the noise would go away after it was warmed up..it was one of these valves making the noise.

    I have a 2001 Cadillac DeVille recently the secondary air pump sounded like a spaceship for like 15 seconds when I started the car finally it quit working so I replaced it. my car has a tube coming off of the pump that goes into my fender for exhaust but when I press the gas pedal smoke comes poring out of my fender. please help I can't figure it out. thanks.

    I have a check engine light on my 2000 vw jetta and it was code p0411. I bought a new air pump and put it on and the check engine still came back . I need a smog test too. I bought this used car. What should I do? What can I do?

    Forgot to mention the air hoses attaches to the solenoid valve and air check valve. These hoses can be cracked or broken causing issues as well.

    I removed my secondary air system check valve from the cylinder head and with vacuum hose and Air Pump attached. Cold started the car, the valve opens, and a high volume of air flows through the valve so no issues with the system. But my engine light is on and giving a "Secondary Air System Insufficient flow" code. I assume this must be carbon build up in the ports located in cylinder head. Also, I can hear the valve (when bolted to cylinder head) fluttering during the air pump on cycle which would be an indication of insufficient flow after the valve (in cylinder head.).
    How can I clean out the ports in the cylinder head of an e46 325i ?

      I had the same error and it turned out one of the old plastic hoses supplying the engine from the air filter was cracked around the back. I would simply try to touch all around the hoses to assure you don't have a leak in the hose which would lead to an insufficient air supply.

    Your test made me make a mistake.
    I bought a new secondary air pump.
    at the beginning the airflow is low then it increases because the voltage or current intensity changes and stops after 90 "
    with the 12V battery test the airflow remains low.
    not only tested with a battery unless you have a
    DC generator

    Hey man I have question I have a 2001 BMW x5 no check engine light turns on but I secondery air smog pump wont activate it turn on but when u put scanner it show it's not activated . What should I do any 1 help me please

      i have 97 bmw 328i an air injection pump is commanded ON (activated) only at cold start..morning or after 7 hours rest.

    Hi, I have a P0492 error code coming up. Secondary air Injection air system bank 2 mailfunction... 1 is it serious? 2 is it a easy fix?? Thank you. From New Zealand.

      I have the same code on my 2003 bmw 525i. Did you ever get yours cleared? If so, what did you do?

      @@ceawatso1 the mechanics said its not serious. Can be fixed by removing the secondary pump. We left it as if is. Everytime it comes up I just clear of using my OBD11 scanner

      Then either the non-return-valve does not "close" to grant "non-return"-function or there is an other leakage where water can get in.

    What if your air pump doesn't click on when u start engine, but wen u check to see if pump works w external power source, it clicks on, what is my step?

      Check the control circuit of the pump. Something is keeping the pump from getting the signal to turn on. Check any fuses, relays, or switches. Also check input sensors that tell the computer when to send a signal to the pump. Sometimes it can even be a bad ECM.

      BTW. the sec. air pump (SAP) only runs approx 30-60 seconds after "cold" satr. What means: if the engine is warm no SAP is necessary :-)

      What means "water in my motor" - the motor is a big item. Ambient air contains a lot of water, much more than
      In the piston there ist the ignition, so every water will be "burnt" (resp. becomes steam)
