    WOW THANK YOU! You just saved me a couple hundred dollars! I thought my check valve was broken and was about to order a new one. It turned out all I needed was a little $2 vacuum tube... There must be 2 types of check valves, because quite a few people are saying the valve is 2-way. Good video!

    Well, I've been driving and repairing Volvos since 1970. I think the Volvo design team went south when some of its design work was done out of California. For example, there is no area under the windshield where slushy snow might be released to, so it can drain and keep the wipers clean. During slushy snow storms, I have to pull over every now and then, so I can clear the wipers with my hand, if I want a clean windshield. This from a car made by a manufacturer near the Artic Circle.

    Thanks!! The check worked. I had to try several times to get good vacuum pressure. I had to suck a lot - no joke. I was able to blow air through the valve once it opened.

    Do you know the steps for the check valve that does not have the vacuum port? My check valve does not have a vacuum port.

    Great video. Quick question. I was able to blow air through the check valve only when I applied vacuum through the nipple with a Mittyvac. So it appears the check valve is OK. However, when I reattached the nipple, and turned the car on (thus creating vacuum by running the engine, I was unable to blow air through the air valve. Why would this be the case?

    • @jenniesgarage
      @jenniesgarage  10 лет назад

      The secondary air injection is only activated at certain times. Just because the engine is running doesn't mean the check valve will always be activated. The pump should come on and the check valve should open on cold startups for about a minute or two. Good luck!

    • @lennybizzman9937
      @lennybizzman9937 10 лет назад

      Yes, I understand it only turns on for 90 or less seconds when the car is cold. It is not getting vacuum at all to open the check valve as I tried to blow through the check valve when I started the car in the a.m cold. Should I assume the vacuum switch is the fault?

      ok I see what you mean. I've never dealt with that problem, but my recommendation is to trace the vacuum line back to the solenoid and ensure there aren't any holes in the tube, and then check for voltage at the solenoid when you start the car.

      yes replace the vcv so called vacume control valve "switch" its doesn't switch on anymore.so it doesn't vacume anymore .

    I have a 2002 BMW X5 4.4 that displays these warning indicators: Traction Control, Brake, and ABS. What's odd is that they light up as soon as i turn on the car when it's warm/hot outside, but when it's winter, they'll light up after about 5 minutes. I checked the tires and they seem fine. Would you happen to know what the issue is or what caused it? Or is there a way to disable to indicator? Thanks!

    My valve has no vacuum line, what do I do?

  • @Unidente02

    My 1998 S70 Volvo uses a similar system. Unfortunately, the Volvo engineers decided to install the air pump right under the battery tray, where any acid spills coming from the battery will decompose the plastic housing on the air pump, an item costing close to $200 new at the dealer.

    What engine codes would be related to this valve? I'm getting a p0170 code and cant figure it out. Is this related to DMTl small leak?

    so i left the small tube connected and disconnected the bigger tube and started the car and air came out for a second then seems like the whole system shut down. does this mean the valve is bad??

  • @robwoodz3155

    If this valve goes bad ? Would it cause the car to not speed over 50-60mph? And if i floor it it causes it to "feels like it's choking on gas " type feeling?

    hi, but when i startup my car with a cold engine only it's shake and some times turn off and i had tested my car they found out the air pump Hose broken and they told me it's that what cause the problem. do have any idea ? Thanks.

    Thanks for the video, my valve was good but the vacuum line was degraded pretty bad and was very brittle. I found multiple cracks in the hose after removing it, some spots were so badly dried out I could pull the hose apart!

    Nicely done! Thanks!! I found your video a little late; otherwise I could have saved $50 on the hand-held vacuum pump :-). One thing - at the end of the video, when you leave the engine on and apply vacuum, there SHOULD be exhaust coming out, since the valve is open, right?
