    Good video Wade. Been using parafilm for a number of years now, on bottles I don’t intend to open and of course on open bottles I don’t want to finish . Slàinte

    Nice one Wade, this is an important information. I myself have never used parafilm but I have a lot of friends who do. It's way too expensive in my market and I don't actually have any collection bottles, all for drinking. I do get the appeal though especially for older bottles and bottles one wants to keep for a long long time. Once the bottle is open though, the parafilm doesn't matter and it becomes an entirely different thing with removing the oxygen from the open bottle with a special gas. All in all every enthusiast should know these things so thanks for the info. Cheers!

      Thanks for checking it out brother, I wanted to do something a little different to add to the reviews on my channel. I too only buy bottles for drinking but I buy them faster then I can drink them so I use the parafilm as a way to ensure that I keep the angels out so when I finally get to them they are as full as the day I bought them 😉
      Once they are open I don't bother with the parafilm at all, I just drink them before they sit too long.

    Great content!....I"m just starting my own personal spirits collection at home [mainly tequilas] and I'm concerned about their long-term storage. Stumbled across your video. I'll look into getting some parafilm. I've heard other video channels suggesting spraying some sort of argon or wine preserver gas in the opened bottles, as well. Does that change their flavor? Any other adverse affects of doing that?

    • @McIntyresMalts
      @McIntyresMalts  Год назад +1

      Thank you 😊
      I have heard the same regarding the argon gas, but haven't tried it myself (I try not to open too many bottles at the same time). My understanding is that the argon gas just sits on top of the spirit as it is more dense than Oxygen and creates a barrier between the spirit and Oxygen so long as you don't disturb the bottles.
      Have watched a few videos about it that seem to demonstrate there is no adverse effect, but given that I haven't tried the gas I can't be 100% sure from my own experience.
      Good luck on your collecting journey my friend!

    Would gorrila clear tape work ? There not really much stench but it’s waterproof

    • @McIntyresMalts
      @McIntyresMalts  5 месяцев назад

      Yes it is waterproof, but it also backed with an adhesive, meaning you have glue potentially impacting the flavour of the whisky and when you do decide to take it off it would likely ruin the foil labels. Something to consider if you plan to sell those bottles in the future.
      Parafilm is very affordable and easily accessible. It is in essence a thin wax film that adheres to itself with the heat applied from your hand. It is designed to be neutral with no glue, aromas or chemicals that will impact what it is being applied to (it was originally designed for lab use where strict controls are required).
      So I would not recommend using anything other than Parafilm. Hope this helps Mike.

    Thank you for the information. I am looking at doing this. I have some very old whisky's 30yo's I bought back in the 90's which I have noticed the neck level starting to drop. Can you tell me please, have you experience as to whether the Parafilm can lift ink off the bottle seal or damage the original colour etc in any way?

    • @McIntyresMalts
      @McIntyresMalts  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you my friend 😊
      I haven't experienced this, but I haven't yet had a bottle parafilmed longer that two years. When I unwrapped it no problem at all. It would also suggest it depends on the quality of the foil on the bottles in question too.
      I do hear some people suggest that parafilm can damage the labels / foil, but if you have ever felt parafilm it's highly unlikely. It's not sticky at all and was designed for laboratories and to not leave marks / residue. It's basically just a paraffin wax than can be stretched.
      Not sure about you, but I would rather buy I full bottle from auction with a worn foil than a perfect foil cap with less whisky in the bottle, but that's just me 😉
      Hope this helps!

      @@McIntyresMalts Thank you. I have now gone ahead and placed the order.
      I agree with you, however my OCD wants everything to be perfect. I have a number of whisky’s which have become so valuable over the past few years that I could never afford to replace them now even if I could find them. That’s how I found your video. A couple the neck fill has dropped a smidge; but they are pushing twenty years of my ownership now. So no guess all in all not too bad. It’s less than a centimetre.

    • @kurjan1
      @kurjan1 9 месяцев назад

      @@McIntyresMalts The Parafilm arrived today. Mate, it does not stretch anywhere near as much as yours in the video. I have found it requires 2 x 3 squares to get around the neck. then another 2 squares to go over the top again. However, it does seem to be a beautiful seal.

    • @McIntyresMalts
      @McIntyresMalts  9 месяцев назад

      @@kurjan1 Oh yes I typically cut two squares side by side to go arround the neck, then two side by side "half squares" to go around the top for final seal between cap and bottle.

    Can cling film with tape around work on unopened 5cl bottles?

    • @McIntyresMalts
      @McIntyresMalts  8 месяцев назад

      In theory, yes it would, but I’ve never tried it. Parafilm is designed as a stretchy wax that conform to the shape of the bottle and seals it with no influence from the parafilm affecting the contents of the bottle, whereas cling wrap is a chemical based product and sticky tape has glue in it, and I wouldn’t want either of those potentially impacting the flavour of the whisky in the bottle.
