That was fast! Look forward to your thoughts
Looking forward to getting to it soon!
Macallan is a great whisky but overpriced. At the same time I would not knock it back if offered Tamdhu is the bottle I would pick off the shelf.
Nailed it Mark, completely agree my friend 🥃
What about limited budget with 500$ for all regions ? What would you pick ?
Not many single malts under $100 in my country, and if you include the unofficial region of the islands that’s six (decent*) single malts for $500 which isn’t possible in Australia… but let me have a crack at at- Speyside - Glen Moray Classic NAS $65 Highlands - Glenmorangie X NAS $69 Islay - Bowmore 9 $80 Lowlands - Auchentoshan 12 $93 Campbeltown - Kilkerran 12 $150 Islands - Talisker 10 $90 $547 was the best I could do with $500 budget, BUT… Me personally I wouldn’t actually recommend buying most of these. Good question and a fun exercise! I would just buy two or three really good whiskeys if I only had $500 to spend rather than one from each region.
Compared to other age statement OB Single Malts within the same price range, like the Tomintoul 10, Speyburn 10, the Glen Moray IMO, comes out on top every time. After a full day of visiting distilleries in Scotland, all you want to do is sit in front of the wood fire stove, relax and drink something pleasant, malty and fruity. Something which you don't have to think about too much and which is cheap as wood chips. I'd also highly recommend the Glen Moray Signature Non-Chill Filtered Classic 48% abv (Travel Retail) which is the Glen Moray Classic with the flavour volume turned up. Give it a few days to settle down after opening and a splash of water, and it will reward you with a lovely malt experience. For an introduction to Speyside Peated whisky, the dirt cheap Glen Moray Classic Peated is soft, malty sweet and earthy. Nothing offensive about this at all. It's just a nice dram at the end of the day. The only Glen Moray which I wouldn't absolutely recommend is the 18 Old. Yes, it's cheaper than most 18 Year Olds, bottled at 47.2% abv, non-chill filtered, but it's got an unpleasant dryness, almost bitter oak about it. I'd recommend instead the Loch Lomond 18, Inchmurrin 18 and Inchmoan 18, all at similar prices to the GM 18. Fantastic value for money and better than some 18 Year Olds at premium prices.
Thank you Reb, great recommendations 🥃
This was top 3 whiskeys I have ever had
Ooh, what are the other 2?
Brilliant. Found a bottle going to buy it
Hope you enjoy it Mike!
When I first started drinking whiskey this was a highlight for me. After exploring morecambeltown, Islay I can agree with your review
Yeah I think I experienced it at the wrong time in my journey
Anything that gets to my market ir surely gonna cost twice as much or more... it's sad I won't be able to have this bottle anytime soon. still waiting on that winning lottery ticket. I have tried the old 18 and it was such a treat... elegance embodied in a bottle.
What market are you in my friend?
@@McIntyresMalts Brasil. Most good bottles are not officially sold here so we depend on people bringing it from abroad and selling it on the secondary market. Any good bottle that pops up priced similar to their prices in the main markets (US, UK, etc), it's a crazy deal, even if it's still more expensive. These deals do pop up every now and then though, but you have to know the nooks and crannies and it's still very far and between. When this Laphroaig gets here it will probably be priced at around $600. But I'll have to wait and see... and that's really more of an IF than when it gets here.
So, you'd be a 'friend of Laphroaig' where you get 1 square foot of land (or something to that effect) near the distillery?
Yep! But the real benefit is early access to bottles like this 😊
I purchased a bottle of this whisky and found it to be outstanding! What a gem!
It's got a reputation for a reason! Big fan 🥃
If price no matter, Ledaig is always buy blind 🥂👍🙋♂️
Yet to have a bad one. I pray it never happens!
I was in Scotland last month and asked a local guide to recommend avoid whisky bar. The Bow Bar near Edinburgh’s Golden Mile was his choice. Fantastic selection of whiskies and a very knowledgeable and friendly staff. I told the barman I was looking for a light-moderate peated dram and suggested Caol Ila. It was fantastic. I flew from Edinburgh to Southampton at the end of my trip and was dismayed to see a wonderful variety of duty-free whiskies that I couldn’t buy as I was flying domestic. Much to my pleasure there was a small section of bottles available to all passengers. Caol Ila was among them!
Wonderful story my friend! It’s great when we find those moments with a specific whisky that takes it from a drink to a moment 🥃🥰
Great list, Wade! The Ledaig 18 just became available in my area. I’m really looking forward to opening it. I keep hearing about the Speyburn 18. I may need to pick it up 🤔 Cheers!
Thanks Sheldon, if you palate is anything like mine you should enjoy them a lot!
A lovely drop, my first Longrow bottle too. Slàinte 🏴🥃
Yes it's a good one isn't it!
The only Speyburn I had was the duty free Speyburn 10 at 46%abv and I did not enjoy that at all but I'm visiting the distillery in September so let's see if they can make me a fan. Solid pick with the Highlands, definitely agree with the Lowlands as it was my pick as well :) , bang on with the Campbeltown, Islands and Islay. Solid list brother, would be happy with all of these! Looking forward to Jon and Alan's picks.
Yes I heard the Speyurn 10 isn't much to get excited about. I am keen to see what Jon and Alan come up with too
The tragedy is, this version is absolutely awful when compared to its older bottlings. I would urge you to try and buy an older bottling (round tube) and compare. Mind you, the same can be said for the vast majority of whisky today. Lagavulin 16 is my number one example of deteriorating quality.
💯 on quite a lot of the mass produced stuff. Thankfully we are still blessed with other choices!
Fantastic comparison video Wade, and it was intriguing to see how close the two whiskies were. It's interesting to note that both Tamdhu and Macallan 15yo whiskies were likely aged in sherry casks from the same supplier due to their shared ownership until 2011, which could explain their similar flavors. I think the higher proof of Tamdhu might give it the upper hand, but as you well note, proof isn't everything! Kanpai! 🥃🥃🥃
Thanks Mac, appreciate your thoughts! 🥃
Nothing beats it for the money.
It's pretty hard to beat when it's sub $90 AUD
That thumbnail for the video is Gwhisky level!! Love it! Great picks. Hard to argue with any if them. Speyburn 18 is wonderful, but I'd probably go with Craigellachie 17. It's just a little more unique. Cheers Wade!
Thank you my friend! Which thumbnail did you see? Running new RUclips A/B testing and there are 3 variants.
It was you wearing a kilt, squatting with Phil's head on the left, Jeff whisky's head on the right, your bottle picks fanned out behind, and a tri-orange background. Hilarious and awesome! I'm not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but man, I sure do love me a good cover😂. Cheers Wade!
@@GeoffreyBangers Haha yeah that was my favourite of the ones I made. Bit of a laugh!
Haha my video releases tomorrow and we have both chosen to challenge Jon 😂 oh well, at least we have different picks! Love your Glendronach 18 pick, I had a sample of that recently and was blown away, cheers!
That's awesome Ash, now Jon has no excuse not to do it! Looking forward to seeing your video mate!
It’s very likely that the expression: ‘tons of’, will never leave our vocabulary, Regarding the perception of the taste of scotch whisky, I’m reminded of the comment of a Union officer made after a violent CW battle. He said that his whisky tasted especially good after the tough fighting was over.
I like the way that is worded 🥃
@@McIntyresMalts Thanks to you, Lagavulin 8 will be next on my tasting list! Salud!
@@johnzajac9849 Really? I actually don't recommend this one, I didn't like it as much as the 16
@@McIntyresMalts The Virginia state store sells it for $99. I will save my nickels for that instead!
@@McIntyresMalts BTW. If you can get them, please review the very affordable 'Old Overholt’ (bonded), a rye whisky, and ‘Teeling', an Irish whisky. Old Overholt is said to have been a favorite of Gen. Ulysses Grant and gunman/gambler Doc Holliday.
Should be a banger - try
Hope it’s solid, have really enjoyed the Ledaig’s I have tried so far

Stats look good, let’s see what it offers
Just bought a bottle - looking forward to trying it on the back of this review - thanks Wade!
Hope you enjoy it!

I like your go for broke approach ! My no price considered picks are. Speyside Craigalliche 23, Highlands anCnoc 18, Lowlands Bladnoch 11 (only because the 10 is no longer available) Campbeltown Longrow 18, Islands Arran 18, Islay Bruichladdich 18 Cheers Wade
Yeah man that is an excellent list as well 👌👌👌
I like Isay light-medium peat. Laphroaig tastes like iodine and wet bandaids. Nasty!
🩹🤤
Here’s a challenge: choose affordable bottles!
🙃
Mate from where do you get your booze? Which site?
Have a few go to spots, but mostly from these guys wsky.me/wadeis Are you based in Australia?
@@McIntyresMalts yeah mate based in Melbourne. Usually I get from Dan Murphys and Nicks boozebud for online orders
I highly recommend the Kilchoman PX cask matured. Cherry bomb.
Got a bottle, looking forward to opening it!
Try and then buy
The best approach 👌

Very good choice Wade . Cheers !
Thank you kindly 😊🙌

Hey wade This was great do more!!! Yep agreed one of my favs glendronach 18 and 21 is amazing too!!! The Bladnoch 10 is that any good wade? 🥃✌️
Thank you brother! Yes the Blanch 10 is good, I liked it
Speyside: Craigellachie 13 Highlands: Glendronach 18 Lowlands: Auchentoshan three wood Campbeltown: Springbank 12 CS Islay: Ardbeg Uigeadail Islands: Arran 18

Great to see how far this challenge has gone since I started back in 2023! Solid picks Wade and you got great taste with your island pick ;). Cheers!
Good that it’s gained momentum again, had I not just dropped the vid I did when you originally challenged me I would have responded ages ago. Keen for the next ones to come!
I am also an Islay whiskey lover, Laphroaig 10 is my goto whiskey from time to time, however Port Charlotte 10 has caught my attention as well
Yeah it's hard to ignore that PC10, it's lovely stuff isn't it?!
Good choices, buddy! 🥃

Those were some excellent choices Wade! I appreicate the challenge too, now I have some hard thinking to do, and maybe a little sipping. Cheers!
Excited to see your choices Jon! 🥃
Great list and love you passed the challenge on to Alan and John.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great, top shelf picks, Wade. I really need to post my video on this topic ... (I understood the challenge to be a little bit closer to your first video on this topic, seeking representative bottles, so my choices in that upcoming video will not be able to compete with these ...).
Thanks Tim. I definitely think it's open to a little bit of interpretation and given my original video I needed a little deviation from that concept so I wasn't just repeating myself. Looking forward to seeing what your choices are to my friend!
Did they have that there or they allowed BYO?
BYO and no corkage 😎🥳
Tried this whiskey at the whiskey live event in St Kilda. I enjoyed it but the one that stood out for me was the Archie rose smoked heritage rye malt whisky. So different loads of dark chocolate, dry on the finish. Lots going on
They are doing some really cool unique stuff aren’t they!?
Yes good to see them trying to put their own stamp on whisky . Always enjoy trying something new🥃
