Getting into watches is going down the rabbit hole in a big way. In the early 1980's I purchased two swiss army watches, both died within 14 months. I then started down the rabbit hole by looking at all the high end brands. In 1985 I purchased a Accutron ( sport watch? )with a steel band for the outrageous price of 600.00. Was it worth it? I have worn this watch everyday for the past 33 years and the only repairs I have done is have a new battery put in every three to four years. Hopefully, you may find your grail watch. Keep up the enjoyable and informative videos. Barry Levitt
Inexpensive quartz watches are typically rated at +/-0.5 seconds per day (15 seconds a month, 180 seconds per year), although they can definitely perform better than their specification. Medium priced atomic/radio controlled or GPS watches have a similar base accuracy, but if they do sync every night they than also be +/-0.5 seconds per month and per year. Expensive high accuracy quartz watches are typically rated as well as 10 seconds per year, although there are a few rated at 5 seconds per year and in rare cases are rated at 3 seconds per year.
The dial on this one is a bit of an acquired taste I think. Although by the end of the video I was liking this a lot more, but still ani-digi is not my thing
On my 55th birthday I presented myself with a Breitling Chronospace with the same functions as your Aerospce, but different face and bezel. To this day I still wear it with pride, and always get positive comments. The lume has unfortunately faded significantly, but it’s over 10 years old.
Hey nick. Will you send it back to Breitling for battery change and service? I saw a vid on their website on how they service and change the battery on their super quartz movement and I must say it's pretty cool.
Thank you for the review. The Aerospace doesn't get a lot of reviews, even though it is an awesome watch. I have had one for about 10 years, and it still functions like new. It has only been serviced once. For those who say you could have gotten this or that for a lot less, is like saying you could have gotten an Invicta Pro Diver, instead of a Rolex Submariner for a lot less money. It's all in what you like, and what you want to wear. A quality watch will always be worth the extra money. I did not pay $4000.00 for mine. When I got mine, it cost something like $2500.00. I'm not sure I would pay $4000.00 + for one. But you can still find them out there for a reasonable price. Hope you enjoy your new Aerospace as much as I have enjoyed mine.
Congrats on the new watch. Have a black-dial titanium Aerospace, now on a NATO black strap. Bought in 2000, very light, in a mint condition and still ever so accurate. Never been serviced. No problem with crown function selection. Not for sale. The lume on yours is better.
I like automatics because they will never die so long as I keep them on my wrist. Although they may not be as accurate to the second, there's no fear of a battery suddenly giving out on you and needing to be replaced. If I need 100% accuracy my phone is always in my pocket. Plus, that second hand sweep is so much more sweet and elegant than any quartz.
I just can't make myself like watches that combine analog and digital. I dunno. I think digital should be digital and analog should be analog. Can't stand G-Shock watches that primarily are digital but cram hands in there, and can't stand watches that are primarily analog but slip a small LCD panel in there. I dunno
Definitely glad to see you went with the aerospace, (a watch that makes sense in quartz) as opposed to a navitimer or one of Breitlings more popular models. This watch has been on my radar for a couple decades as well. Being that I'm 32 the decades comment should let you know how long I have been infected with the watch virus. Like Magic I am living proof you can still have a decent quality of life after infection.
You don't have a problem. In the past two months I've bought: Citizen Nighthawk Bulova Accutron Kirkwood Seiko Flightmaster Squale 1521 Marathon GSAR Deep Blue MilOps Omega Seamaster Oris Aquis Omega Speedmaster Sinn 358 You don't have a problem.
Without a doubt a nice piece. Quite tool-ish looking. Those combo digital/analog watches have so many useful functions. However, I'm not spending $4K on a watch. Instead, to satisfy my HAQ (High Accuracy Quartz) jones, I recently picked up the Bulova Accutron II 96B209. Accurate to 10sec/yr. Smooth sweeping second hand. 200mm WR. K1 crystal, internal bi-directional bezel. But the great part, besides the $200 price tag, is the design. A beautiful cushion case and a stunning dial with one of the more comfortable bracelets I own. It has nicely applied markers and cool "tuning fork" logo on the dial and second hand. The thing looks SHARP in suits, jeans or shorts. Downsides? Besides lacking the myriad of neat digital functions is the lume is not as long lasting as I'd like and no anti-reflective coating. Otherwise, the Bulova gets you into HAQ with a watch that looks amazing for a very reasonable cost. It also comes in four or five different colors. Anyway, good luck with your new watch. I'm looking forward to your full review.
Dear mother of god, it's hideous. That’s the 1970's porn star of watches. I love all your videos Nick, even of knives/watches/kit I don't have any interest in, your reviews are that good. This thing is a chronological Ron Jeremy though...
Nick I know you have let several watches go from you're collection. What is the best way to sell a high-end luxury watch? A Panerai for instance. Privately or through one of those sites that offers a quote?
Nick, I am actually considering purchasing a Vostok. Good idea? Bad? Anything we should keep in mind when buying a watch out of Russia, like shady vendors?
A friend had me borrow this watch for a week or so, wanting my opinion on if he should keep it. I said return it. It's great looking, despite what so many people think. Hands down, GREAT looking. But the crown activated settings are simply a pain in the ass to use. The rotation sensitive crown (i.e. fast and slow rotations) is objectively inconsistent. It's not all about getting the hang of it. It OFTEN simply does not work as it should. Watch any RUclips review of this watch and every single reviewer has some trouble at some point with the crown activations. Even Nick did. For $2,700 to $4,000...NOT OK. I hope at some point Breitling will ditch the complications and screens, and just make this a simple watch. Because it's beautiful and cool as hell. I'd imagine as a simple time-teller, it could come down in price by a grand or more. Then I'd buy it. Happily. Gratefully. Nick, I never ask you questions because I figure you get a hundred questions a day. But I'd love to know how you feel about this watch after having it for a few weeks now.
Nick. You should investigate _Sinn UX_ series of watches. Tegimented submarine steel, high accuracy, temperature compensated quartz tool watches. Oil filled to aid the water depth rating, just in case you fancy finding out what it's like 5000m under the sea.
Apologies since this has nothing to do with the watch, but I've got a TON of kids' cartoons recommendations on this page and I couldn't figure out until this very second: This is a "Snick Preview" from "Nick Shabazz" and ALL the cartoons in the list are...Nickelodeon shows or deliberately mislabeled as Nick Shows. Holy moly, something inside RUclips has short-circuited badly.
I love love love knives and what not. But I'm really happy you're looking to do more watch videos. Also Breitling is one of my favorite brands, I don't own one yet unfortunately but the Navitimer is one of my grails. Looking forward to the Full Nick Shabazz Review :)
Fun video! Congrats on the Brietling. Except as gym/workout watches or for hard use for dirty work, I've lost most of my taste for quartz. LOL, but of course those aforementioned categories create major opportunities for collecting even quartz watches 😉
The moment I saw the box, I thought: "3 out of 4 ain't bad." I hear ya on Breitling's photogenic-ness, or lack thereof. Every time I saw a picture of them on a watch forum, I didn't get it. Then I saw them in an AD, and I understood. I'm lusting after a Galactic 41, myself. Man of a certain age in a fishing hat, shorts and Hawaiian shirt allowed me a chance to get a closer look at his. I prefer mechanicals, but I got love for quartz. Sometimes, there's something comforting about watching and hearing a quartz movement run. It's the not having a seconds-hand that tends to annoy me.
Nick mentions that this watch doesn't usually photograph well. However here is a link to some photos of it done right. And with different bands. Note the great look of it in leather. (I'm not selling anything. I don't know the rules. If this post has to be deleted I understand). forums.watchuseek.com/f15/considering-aerospace-evo-but-have-some-questions-3190546-2.html
You are dead on about watches. I got into Seiko then Hamilton then Tissot the Omega the Rolex and now I'm eyeballing a Breitling Superocean 44 Special. Your new Baby is a great piece.
I've had 7 Breitlings, and ended up back using my iphone. Maybe one day when the industry goes back to practical sized pieces, I will grab one again. For now, Shirogorov takes all my money.
Seiko Spring Drive watches, that's what you need. You get the best of both worlds, as they are mechanical watches (no battery, all the energy is in a mainspring and generated by a rotor as on conventional mechanicals) but instead of a classic escapement you have a quartz crystal. The mainspring drives your watch mechanically but also generates a current that is "processed" by the quartz and acts as an escapement to slow down the watch magnetically and give you the time. They are practically as precise as regular quartz watches, but with no battery, no electronics per say and what I judge to be some of the best mechanical engineering around. It's a real movement, but it's getting its precision from quartz oscillation. In a mechanical way. What.
I'm definitely a watch nut. I often say, if it doesn't go bang or tell the time, I don't need it. That's where I don't understand knife collecting. But everyone has their thing.
You ought to check out bertucci watches, I've lusted after that aerospace for years but holy cow that's a lot of money for something I'll be beating on.
I'm an inexpensive watch collector. Nothing over $300.00. This watch is great looking. If it weren't insanely out of my price range (from a moral standpoint) I'd buy it tomorrow.
Nick... I am so sorry but I just got into watches a few months ago and I finally bought my first watch after a bunch of research. It is mechanical. There is no turning back.
I don't think you actually speak french, I never heard someone say "Chacun voit midi à sa porte" et sérieux, je comprend pas pouurquoi tu dis que tu parle français, tu devrais plutôt dire que tu a appris l'englais
Thanks to you Nick, I am not going to get into watches! Sure, my first automatic Seiko will be here tomorrow, but that's the last one. I can quit any time I want to...
Wow. I'm pretty sure you could find a Casio that does all that AND has more than acceptable quartz accuracy for a FRACTION of the cost. Spend the difference in a 12-step program for out-of-control watch collectors.
great video nick look i feel like a smuck asking this but would you consider looking at some sub $100 watches? im slowly working my way through a bunch of watches from gear best and im really enjoying them i know its a world away from these watches but i think ited be cool to hear your thoughts on some very low cost watches i find it hard when looking up budget watches and the videos are till focused on $600 watches for me thats not in my budget but any way great video i always enjoy your stuff
Not really relevant to this video, but I want to post this somewhere just for the heck of it. People complain about CRKT and Kershaw having great designs but messing up on the steel and telling them to just raise the price a little and put some better steel in. But people need to remember when they were new to knives. Someone needs to make budget knives, and for newbies and or budget minded people, those brands need to exist. If you want a better steel, go to another brand. P.S. I don’t love either of the aforementioned budget brands I’m just sayin for the benefit of frugal people. I’m crazy for pretty, unnecessary, high end knives.
Riley Bracelin People also don’t understand that higher quality steel can’t be used on the same machines that lower quality steel is. Meaning that CRKT would have to invest in brand new tools and machinery and hope that the interest people show in higher quality versions of their knives weren’t just people bluffing.
Noah Cahill Good points as well, I missed those. I myself love higher end knives, but people need good budget brands to get into the hobby. Every brand has a place.
Riley Bracelin Without a doubt, my first “name brand” knives (i.e not $5 and unmarked) were the CRKT Squid and Pilar. Fantastic little knives for $20 and $25 respectively.
Love that watch Nick, I don't wear it that much but is really a fab piece. Not everyone's cup of tea but it a fantastic capacity and in titanium it is just a peach. Congrats, buddy!!
Captain Sunday fab and peach is traditional London English and of course I won't remove it from my native London vocabulary. If you have an issue with that, just ignore my comment, easy init? (Another London expression)
That's a super cool and and gorgeous piece! I'd love to have one some day. Question: Did you consider the Citizen Chronomaster? The most accurate quartz watch in the world at +/- 5 seconds/year (although actual reports are lower). Slimmer and lighter with a titianium case and bracelet and about the same price as the Breitling.
I have a titanium Chronomaster which I looked at sending to Nick for review but the insurance & risk for both of us was too high. So far accuracy is at least in spec. BTW - it has killer lume & that's from someone who has both Omega's & Seiko monsters.
I own one as well (ceramic bezel version). Great EDC watch, looks great, is accurate and durable. Before that I had 7 watches, down to 4 now and keep slimming down.
Steve J I check it on Sundays at about noon my daily watch which is just a seiko 5 and runs about a minute fast a week and I check it against time.is. I used to track it daily with a phone app but that got tedious. I do appreciate quartz time pieces and their advantages there are many beautiful quartz watches. But for me mechanical is the path I chose for collecting and wearing.
That watch is FUGLY ! ! ! But, eye of the beholder and all that. I too have way more watches than wrists, but they're all well under £150, in fact I have several Seiko 5's that were around £50. The others are Casio and Citizen etc. Somehow, I have avoided the progression to the hard stuff . . . For now !
Every time you mention someplace in Michigan, it disturbs me at how close you live to me. I must have drove passed lewis jewelers a thousand times. I could have walked passed the Nick a thousand times and never been none the wiser.
I am affraid you my friend have the sickness......... yep the watch sickness..... my condolences..... Nice review, that is one of the few Breitling watches that I actually like, I have found most of there pieces to be "eye test" with all of the small markings.....
Your Omega Planet Ocean makes sense to me- it's a precision mechanical watch.. The Breitling doesn't. Doesn't Casio or somebody make a quartz that perform those functions. It feels like you bought a really expensive calculator! I don't get it!
Nick never really said he likes the looks (that means aesthetics to those who prefer 3 syllables over 1, which seems to be everybody these days)...the looks of this watch, or even used the common phrase "nice looking". When he did comment on its appearance he was almost apologetic, i.e. it looks better than it looks. Of course one has to figure he does find it visually appealing otherwise he wouldn't have spent so much money on it.
$40 for a quartz watch... Great!
$400 for a Quartz watch... Sure, if you like it, go for it.
$4000 for a quartz watch ... Seek help.

Your a lucky man not being sucked into a black hole of watches
Nick, Nick, Nick, now you are going to have to start tracking leap seconds. And on a watch with a face only a mother could love. ;-)
Inexpensive quartz watches are typically rated at +/-0.5 seconds per day (15 seconds a month, 180 seconds per year), although they can definitely perform better than their specification. I was expecting an army of Z-hunter brand watches to spring from that nice little brown box and the video to end abruptly.
On my 55th birthday I presented myself with a Breitling Chronospace with the same functions as your Aerospce, but different face and bezel. To this day I still wear it with pride, and always get positive comments. The lume has unfortunately faded significantly, but it’s over 10 years old.

One you go Schwartz, your allowed to go quartz.
It is nice to see not only a quartz watch in a high end piece, but an actual analogue/digital to boot. Cheers for doing something different.
I like automatics because they will never die so long as I keep them on my wrist. Nice review man. I want one. Trying to find one reasonably priced.

You don't have a problem. In the past two months I've bought:
Citizen Nighthawk
Bulova Accutron Kirkwood
Seiko Flightmaster
Squale 1521
Marathon GSAR
Deep Blue MilOps
Omega Seamaster
Oris Aquis
Omega Speedmaster
Sinn 358
You don't have a problem.
I feel way better now.
Nick Shabazz A Breitling Super Ocean is on my radar as well.
What color dial is it - blue/grey/black ?
very good review, very good interpretation and very nice new watch! thanks my friend!
It is amazing what some people would rather have than money. I have a Bulova Accutron quartz accurate to 12 seconds per year which cost $250.
Way out of my budget. I have a citizen eco drive that serves me well...
Same!
Same²
I agree. The only upgrade feasible to me at this point is a GPS/Atomic solar watch.
i have a promaster from Citizen. In comparing with the Breitling the Citizen its a japany-shit!
Hey you might also enjoy the Tissot T-Touch. i have one in titanium and I love it. (It isn't terrible expensive too. At least here in Switzerland)
Dear mother of god, it's hideous. That’s the 1970's porn star of watches. I love all your videos Nick, even of knives/watches/kit I don't have any interest in, your reviews are that good. This thing is a chronological Ron Jeremy though...
A bit skinnier than that, but different tastes!
I still watched to the end. Damn it.
No kidding. For someone who rails against tacticool knives, Nick sure loves the high speed low drag special operator watches.
Could be worse - there is the Breitling Emergency.
Hey! what is wrong with 1970´s porn stars?
Any chance you are going to review the Blue Angeles? I've had my eye on that one.
Great V'log. very entertaining as usual. I also have gone from quartz to mechanical and am now somewhere in between. Im lost :)
I have Breitling chronospace and it’s a quartz and stg it’s one of the best watches i have ever had.
Why are the links angled?
A friend had me borrow this watch for a week or so, wanting my opinion on if he should keep it. I said return it. It's great looking, despite what so many people think.
Hands down, GREAT looking.
But the crown activated settings are simply a pain in the ass to use. The rotation sensitive crown (i.e. fast and slow rotations) is objectively inconsistent. It's not all about getting the hang of it. It OFTEN simply does not work as it should.

It's a nice piece. but the battery needs to be replaced at Sinn, by Sinn, to the tune of $600 and 6 months wait. So it's off my table :(
Good point. Fair do's.
Had it once, awesome instrument!
4400bucks yeesh! I hope it’s at least waterproof. Makes me wonder though with the push buttons. But then again why the divers dial eh?
I love love love knives and what not. But I'm really happy you're looking to do more watch videos. Also Breitling is one of my favorite brands, I don't own one yet unfortunately but the Navitimer is one of my grails. Looking forward to the Full Nick Shabazz Review :)
In the 1990s Omega made a similar ani/digital watch, the "Mars" watch, which I like.
Fun video! Congrats on the Brietling.
Except as gym/workout watches or for hard use for dirty work, I've lost most of my taste for quartz. LOL, but of course those aforementioned categories create major opportunities for collecting even quartz watches 😉

i was praying there was just a casio f91w sitting in the case when you opened it up

casio oceanus, those things are beautiful waveceptors, usually in titanium
I have the same problem haha You know once you start getting into Breitling it’s time for an intervention! I need one of those Planet Oceans
Seems like the Casio Waveceptor line, but a lot more expensive.

How do you feel about Tag nick?
I'm definitely a watch nut. I often say, if it doesn't go bang or tell the time, I don't need it. That's where I don't understand knife collecting. But everyone has their thing.
thinking about the B50 now,
Hey ! Adelaide Australia :) where I call home .... (Yes it's too bloody hot here )
Grats on the Aerospace! Looks great on ya!
You ought to check out bertucci watches, I've lusted after that aerospace for years but holy cow that's a lot of money for something I'll be beating on.
I heard the Aerospace is pretty expensive to service. May you wear it in good health.
Love your videos. You're funny as hell.
Picked up "for the channel". Knowing you have a problem is half the battle. Nice watch!
YES! Aerospace! There isn't a single good review of this watch anywhere. I am glad that you are going to change that.
I know you are the boss, but man you are nuts. Do enjoy it in good health though!
I'm an inexpensive watch collector. Nothing over $300.00. This watch is great looking. If it weren't insanely out of my price range (from a moral standpoint) I'd buy it tomorrow.
But yeah that's a beautiful timepiece though, not my cup of tea for me, but I can certainly see the appeal.
Embrace the pain Nick! Welcome to the show!
Nick... I am so sorry but I just got into watches a few months ago and I finally bought my first watch after a bunch of research. It is mechanical. There is no turning back.
If you really need a quartz watch, then Casio G-Shock is the way to go.
Weakness disgusts me!!
I would laught so hard if I saw the Nick with a nice G-SHOCK Rangemaster
I don't think you actually speak french, I never heard someone say "Chacun voit midi à sa porte" et sérieux, je comprend pas pouurquoi tu dis que tu parle français, tu devrais plutôt dire que tu a appris l'englais
Balinoob many spelling mistakes here as well sorry to say.
Micheal Braun Were?
Thanks to you Nick, I am not going to get into watches! Sure, my first automatic Seiko will be here tomorrow, but that's the last one. I can quit any time I want to...
Damn son if that’s where you want to spend your hard earned money more power to you.
This little guy looks really nice on your wrist.
Wow. I'm pretty sure you could find a Casio that does all that AND has more than acceptable quartz accuracy for a FRACTION of the cost. Spend the difference in a 12-step program for out-of-control watch collectors.
The Planet Ocean actually has a 60 hour power reserve..
I hope you do a review of the amphibia, i would like to see your opinion on it
Hey Nick, my name is Judson... I have a problem... I am into watches... and now I think I need a quartz piece!
great video nick look i feel like a smuck asking this but would you consider looking at some sub $100 watches? im slowly working my way through a bunch of watches from gear best and im really enjoying them i know its a world away from these watches but i think ited be cool to hear your thoughts on some very low cost watches i find it hard when looking up budget watches and the videos are till focused on $600 watches for me thats not in my budget but any way great video i always enjoy your stuff
Noah Cahill cool knives! Mine was a sog twitch 2
My first knife was a semi serrated spyderco tenacious, wich i got for a ridiculous €90. I still love it
Love that watch Nick, I don't wear it that much but is really a fab piece. Not everyone's cup of tea but it a fantastic capacity and in titanium it is just a peach. Congrats, buddy!!
Kindly remove "fab" and "peach" from your vocabulary.
I did, but they're hard to buy/service in the US as they're japan only, and most models don't have lume. And I do like the versatility.
I have a titanium Chronomaster which I looked at sending to Nick for review but the insurance & risk for both of us was too high. So far accuracy is at least in spec. BTW - it has killer lume & that's from someone who has both Omega's & Seiko monsters.
This watch is like... the boss of quartz, it's the patek phillipe of quartz, it is AWESOME!
"appreciable" never heard that word. good though. 8:33
Congratulations, nice watch!
Damn Nick you don’t have a jeweler... you have a concierge dealer
looking forward to the inevitable vostok amphibia review!
You missed a potential pun. "I hope you had a good time to-date"
Dang, was hoping for the Victorinox Chrono Classic, but this one is nice as well.
Cheers!
I own one as well (ceramic bezel version).
Great EDC watch, looks great, is accurate and durable.
Before that I had 7 watches, down to 4 now and keep slimming down.
Half climb a mountain. I literally lol'd.
love the video! also....DO NOT GET INTO WATCHES
Oh nice, yep that sounds awesome, oh cool, that's a nice touch, sweet that's useful, man id use that feature all the time, "$4400" Oh.... that's ugly.
I love almost all watches but I can't leave mechanical pieces. Me being apart of the watch working makes it really cool to me
Steve J I check it on Sundays at about noon my daily watch which is just a seiko 5 and runs about a minute fast a week and I check it against time.is.
Maybe... I am you!
I can now half climb a mountain. My son said why are you laughing like that daddy? 👍 Nick
I don't get it!
this watch is fantastic, btw having an aquaterra quartz and a gorgeus planet ocean, I can't see the point in owning it.
Still sad that the Sinn had to go:(
If it had been accurate, it might not have left.
It is a Sin to buy a Sinn.
Strap on! It’s about to get bumpy!
Last time I was first life was easy...
I could buy 20 GShock for that price.
But I do like your new timepiece
Tell me about the obsession with accuracy down to milliseconds... while wearing a watch that doesn't have a second hand.
Hey, Nick? What’s a good starting budget watch? I need to get into another hobby that burns money quicker than smoking $100 bills.
Quartz or not I need to see a second hand
