They probably caught wind that Jensen was going to claim the 5070 is as powerful as a 4090 just like they claimed the 4080 was multiple times more powerful than a 3080Ti. Hard to not look like a fool when you planned to announce a legit 4070/5070 class card and then a few hours later Jensen comes out and says their new 5070 has more "performance" than a 4090.
What would CES be without confusing graphics that dont really say anything and give cover to the company if the performace is lackluster on release? Better, thats what it would be. Better

The AI Max also really looks interesting. A new design with Apple M series like integrated SoC and high-bandwidth memory. Instead of conventional CPU + dGPU.
@@ShersGarageYeah, but way too expensive for price/performance. Chips cost over $1K wholesale. Cheaper to use CPU + dGPU unless power limited, and few power limited scenarios justify that price.
@@keonxd8918 I meant from technical standpoint. It's known that unified architecture has the best performance potentials. The reason for CPU + dGPU is because current technology can't really handle the density required for true high-performance integrated SoC. I'm a bit sick so maybe it passed me by, but did you at any point around 11:08 specify, that the Z2 Extreme's cores are a mix of Zen 5 and Zen 5c cores (LTT's info said 3 and 5, Techpowerup estimated 4 and 4) and the GPU's 16 CUs are RDNA 3.5? Meanwhile the Z2 non-extreme no-go is Zen 4 cores and RDNA 3 CUs, and the Z2 Go is Zen 3+ cores and RDNA 2 CUs.
The Z lineup is always going to be hilarious to me. I remember when ASUS was saying, "Oh, well the Ally has a custom SOC, just like the Steam Deck," only for it to turn out to be a 7040U with the AI die burned off. Not familiar enough with the layout of the AI 300 chips to know if that's what's going on with the Z2 as well.
Personally im really excited for the 9950X3D, I currently have the 7950X3D and it fits my uses perfectly, but having a bit more compute power will be great for CAM when machining parts. Really hoping it doesn't cost an insane amount so its worth it for me to upgrade. Thanks Steve!

probably because it's not really a release yet, but more of a teaser. Even the press briefing info was sparse, so they just aren't yet ready for a release. Whether that be because it's not quite finished or because they're waiting on Nvidia to finalize their pricing strategy, either way, this is not the actual release.
I know its off topic, but I hope you guys can take a look at the B580 overhead issue. There is no real data out there at 1440p and I would love to see the performance and if overhead is an issue vs other GPUs at 1440p. Not considering a B580 personally, but would be interested in a B770 or the like if it comes out.
Cache in both does not make sense. The games can not use two chips for gaming in anyway because of delays! It would only be usefull if you play too games at the same time… And productivity can use both chips and one without is faster so better to have one without! So gamers: 9800x3d People who do work and also play: 9950x3d People who only do work: 9950… The current combination is the only that can make sense unles you play at the exact same time two games at the same time… Not many would do that.
@@haukikannel > and one without is faster The thing is: this generation they apparently solved the issue with heat dissipation on the die with the 3D cache, so there should be no reason for "faster" cores without the extra cache. I guess we must wait for some engineering discussion with AMD.

There is still lots of good things that can happen. FSR4 should be much better upscaling, improvements to hardware encoders, faster RT performance, proper Displayport 2.1 support rather than the slow one offered in RDNA3. Better price to performance overall. Lots of stuff to be excited about but they dropped the ball.
I'm fine with them not competiting at the high end. What's far more important is matching Nvidia and Intel on things like upscaling and ray tracing. They've lacked what are essential features to many people.
They don't really have a good reason to be the first to announce their exact pricing and positioning. If they wait for Nvidia, they can avoid scrambling to adjust prices shortly after launch this time. And who knows, maybe they aren't quite ready yet and their PR folks finally learned a lesson from the 7000 release and decided to wait until they actually have reliable benchmark numbers rather than hopeful projections to tell people about.
AMD just told the world that they have no confidence at all in their RDNA4 lineup. So little that they didn't even want to mention it during in the launch event.
No, they only told the world that they aren't actually ready to launch these cards yet and that they rather focus on AI crap than to spend their keynote time with a sparse content-less teasers about something they are going to properly release at a later time anyways.
that's hardly a big surprise if they aren't even trying to compete on perf with this gen. But you can't really say yet if they can compete - obviously not in the high end, which again, they aren't even trying, but if they price it right they surely can be very competative. And given the ludicrous prices Jensen seems to be going for, that shouldn't be that hard.
I had to scroll down through two dozen CES AMd videos to get to the most important one, your take! I can’t stand Linus’ attitude and videos no matter how many of the top spots they take. Glad I found yours.
That GPU alignment chart doesn't look good for us. They said they weren't going to compete on the higher end, ok But they don't intend to compete with the 5070 Ti (4080 level)... so Nvidia will once again be free to charge absurd amounts.

Better

That 9950X3D is an absolute MONSTER.
there was no mention of any GPUs in the CES keynote
The mention was in the prebriefing for us.
@@GamersNexus Steve I hope you saw "Tomasz Gawronski" tweet, he leaked the price of the of the RTX 5080 ( 1699 euro so around 1349$ without vat/tax )
@@GamersNexus why didn’t they mention it on the stage tf
@@Cam_Wight No idea!
@@GamersNexus Thanks Steve for announcing the GPUs :)
"We'll stick to the stuff we know best".... I love this channel and it's probably the stuff you don't know best you know better than most other channels.
I do watch and enjoy other channels, but this is the one I come to for news first.
Perfect Timing for this Vid
I really appreciate the detailed and non-biased reporting on this stuff, but still has a sense of humor to keep it engaging. Makes it to where i don't have to hunt down all this info and struggle to interpret it.
In their livestream they left out the 9070
well ofcourse the 9070 is a product from the future, makes no sense to announce it in 2025 when it comes out in 2029
9950HX3D with 5090 mobile would be one beast of machine!
The AI Max also really looks interesting. A new design with Apple M series like integrated SoC and high-bandwidth memory. Instead of conventional CPU + dGPU.
@bltzcstrnx it does look interesting. PS5 Pro GPU paired with good CPU. That should be able to run pretty much any modern game reasonable fps.
@@ShersGarageYeah, but way too expensive for price/performance. Chips cost over $1K wholesale. Cheaper to use CPU + dGPU unless power limited, and few power limited scenarios justify that price.
It sure be, at $5000
@@keonxd8918 I meant from technical standpoint. It's known that unified architecture has the best performance potentials. The reason for CPU + dGPU is because current technology can't really handle the density required for true high-performance integrated SoC. When all is equal, unified system will have better efficiency and latency.
I like how we got the gpu announcement from youtubers rather than AMD themselves
well, I guess this way no one can claim AMD was misleading with their own numbers as opposed to reviewers' this time.
AMD was determined not to over promise with RNA4. So they didn't announce it at all. Baller move. OMG.
super excited for upcoming handhelds, especially ones using steamos. also super excited for the potential of steamos running on arm devices
This upload speed is insane
I copped a 9800x3d TODAY at 12PM EST on Amazon. They’re back in stock at MSRP! I got it for 450 on Amazon!
lol north americans are lucky, here in european union they are still at 630 euros which is about 700 us dollars
Ryzen 9950X3D 🙏
Thank god i didn't waste my sleep for this keynote because it live 2am in my time zone .
12:44 Gordon will be missed for sure :(
A Steve video under 20 mins..
Thanks Steve !!!
To be frank, I would like to see the z2 extreme on the diy market.
Great video, I can’t wait for the 9070xt. I’m just in the process of building a new x870e pc. I couldn’t get the 9800x3d, the 9900x was on sale for 529cad so went with that. More than good enough to play any game.
Weird.
You show us the 9070XT while AMD just showed nothing.
How embarrassing....
Great video!!! Seeing all the estimated performances just has me worried about the future of prices to come. So for now, I'm going to happily run my 7800X3D and 7900XTX into the dirt and maybe beyond.
How the hell can the GPU release not be in the keynote.
probably because it's not really a release yet, but more of a teaser.
The Ryzen AI Max CPUs (God I hate that naming scheme) could actually be quite interesting as mobile console killers
Yep, these are on track to be incredible. The 370 was already giving awesome battery life and performance, these are going to be insane.
Amd should have just had you present the keynote. Keep up the good work
Disappointed in the 12 and 16 core X3D chips not having the cache on both CCDs :(
Cache in both does not make sense. The games can not use two chips for gaming in anyway because of delays! It would only be usefull if you play too games at the same time… And productivity can use both chips and one without is faster so better to have one without!
So gamers: 9800x3d
People who do work and also play: 9950x3d
People who only do work: 9950…
The current combination is the only that can make sense unles you play at the exact same time two games at the same time… Not many would do that.
@@haukikannel > and one without is faster
The thing is: this generation they apparently solved the issue with heat dissipation on the die with the 3D cache, so there should be no reason for "faster" cores without the extra cache. I guess we must wait for some engineering discussion with AMD.
@@dariuszpys9307 well the clock differences won't be that big this time. But it still does give you basically no benefit to have two cache dies, while it does make the part more expensive.
@@haukikanneldo you think the 9950x3d will have the links worked out with the scheduler ? I just bought the 9800x3d, but would love to buy the new 9950x3d
Nobody knows. Have to wait reviews fjor that.
7950x3d was not too bad, but there was times when sheduler did chose wrong chip.
I've come to realize I listen to this news more than any other news. Thanks Steve
I just finished watching their live show.
I'm really looking forward to your review of the 9900x3d and 9950x3d. My computer usage is ~60/40 split between heavy Lightroom and photoshop(wedding galleries) and gaming. Coming from a 7900x, if there's gains to be found on both fronts, I'll likely pull the trigger.
are they chickening out on revealing the prices???? also, are they not revealing the gpus because they don't know how much they will be cooked by nvidia or what? this keynote was so weird..
Im looking forward all benchmarks of the new announced stuff
I didn't watch the keynote. Probably thought saying AI 10,000 times in the space of 5 minutes was more important than mentioning a GPU people were interested in. Am I wrong?
Steve, NEVER STOP being yourself, please....love it!
0:21 That white gpu close to the GN logo looks like a deadly weapon 😂
Looking forward to the 9950X3D review, as I've been waiting a few years for that one, hope it's priced appropriately and they worked most kinks, but we'll see...
Yeah dude I want something that can do gaming and production work, I just bought a 9800x3d… but I know the 7950x3d had issues so didn’t get it, but if the the new 9950x3d is bettter and has kinks worked out I will get it
Nice, top end RDNA 4 is slower than RDNA 3. Good progress, AMD!
and no fsr 4.0 on 7900 xt/7900 xtx which have ai cores xD
There is still lots of good things that can happen. FSR4 should be much better upscaling, improvements to hardware encoders, faster RT performance, proper Displayport 2.1 support rather than the slow one offered in RDNA3. Better price to performance overall. Lots of stuff to be excited about but they dropped the ball.
They said a while ago they weren't going to be targeting the high-end this gen so this shouldn't exactly be a surprise. Real question is the price...
I'm fine with them not competiting at the high end. What's far more important is matching Nvidia and Intel on things like upscaling and ray tracing. They've lacked what are essential features to many people.
@@Joostinonline both are overated dog crap features. I know i have rtx 2080ti both RT & upscaling is never worth it.
Nice to know what new things AMD is bringing 🙂
So they skipped out on pricing for the processors and just skipped the whole gpu entirely… they gotta be waiting for Nvidia right?
They don't really have a good reason to be the first to announce their exact pricing and positioning. If they wait for Nvidia, they can avoid scrambling to adjust prices shortly after launch this time. And who knows, maybe they aren't quite ready yet and their PR folks finally learned a lesson from the 7000 release and decided to wait until they actually have reliable benchmark numbers rather than hopeful projections to tell people about.
AMD never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
Wondering if AMD canceled the GPUs announcement after the reactions online, you literally gave more info than them.
Thanks Steve
Hi Steve.
I thought the event with der8auer was very cool. Thank you for your help.
Kind regards!
Fred.
AMD never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity
they do that a lot. But what opportunity exactly did they miss here?
Thank you for the excellent recap.
AMD trying to look like NVidia GPUs with its naming is pretty ridiculous. Somehow sad.
At this point i think amd and nvidia belong to the same group. Same branding, each of them having a very specific market... mmmm
I've already got myself the Legion Go with the Z1 Extreme, so I'm looking forward to buying the Legion Go 2 with the Z2 Extreme. 😎👍
AMD never misses a chance to miss a chance.
I know GN doesn't really test laptops but I would love to see you guys tackle Strix Halo
Thanks Steve for the official 9070 announcement :)
I guess amd's gpu can't even compete with Nvidia's last gen gpus
that's hardly a big surprise if they aren't even trying to compete on perf with this gen.
AMD is a second tier company with a second tier approach to business.
Excited to see how the new Z2 line performs compared to Z1.
That GPU alignment chart doesn't look good for us.
They said they weren't going to compete on the higher end, ok
But they don't intend to compete with the 5070 Ti (4080 level)... so Nvidia will once again be free to charge absurd amounts.
Nvidia charges absurd amounts because you dumbasses pay absurd amounts to get green.
How many people have the money for a RTX4080 or 7900 XTX? Competing in the $500 $400 range its much better, also I guess they are waiting for Nvidia to show their price and cards before giving any details.
