I don't like free recovery because people need to have recorse for what they do.this didn't seem like one of those times but most rescues are because someone was where they shouldn't have been.and they need a lesson.

@@lstruggy that would probably be upto him. Depending on if he paid for the truck or if he financed it, Insurance will either pay the loan off or write him a check for the value of the the truck. Then he can either purchase a new one or something else. Considering he fell from the height he did and lived through it without life altering injuries I wouldn't be surprised if he chooses to get another TRX.
@@awdeveau That was a pretty extreme fall. I flipped an old F-150 off the road down a 10ish foot ditch many years ago and it scared the shit out of me. Guy in the TRX and his dog have balls of steel. I bet he’ll choose the TRX again lol.
The problem is now insurance companies will put channels against each other to point they will likely charge the tow channel for job. The insurance company wins... but why not get together like men and make agreement to take turns? Everyone wants to be RUclips famous it's just taking different angles. I'm better than him because "reasons".... Basically making a video production of accident is sensationalizing it but who cares if doesn't hurt anyone. The nannies will be offended no matter how much you cater to them.
How you ever accomplished that recovery without 2 helicopters a HET, a bulldozer an excavator a Rotator a scuba diver and a 17-man team is beyond me. LMFAO 😂😆 I think some people forget Rory was doing this successfully long before there was RUclips. Love you guys for keeping it real!!!
Although I suspect one large helicopter could possibly lift that out, it only needs one person to hike down and rig it up and hook it to the line lowered down. Nobody would be driving across lands or need permission then except for the flight path.

This had all the earmarks of a "Heavy D" recovery project. Personally, after 50 years in the recovery industry I'm sure glad it wasn't. I don't much care for his modisaperandi. You did an incredible job. Congratulations.

The insurance company should reimburse your company for this recovery, even though you volunteered to do it for free. Thanks for bringing the land closures to light. People think I'm being an a-hole saying "stay the trial, pay for your OHV permits, follow the rules" but I'm doing it because I want to keep the trails open for use.

First of all, glad the guy and his dog lived through that, what a nightmare! Second, this was one of the coolest recoveries Mater has done that I've seen, hats off to Rory, Sean and Mike and whoever else helped film, that was a lot of work!!!
All that did was save the insurance company from paying the money they should have. It’s up to the policy holder who they want to use and not the insurance company
As an off road enthusiast i watch the different recovery shows. Rory is total professional and i dont know if id call him a wizard or a genius, but he is simply the best at what he does.
i work in the Mojave desert and part of my job IS recovering line trucks that weigh between 25000 and 40000 pounds that get stuck in various desert areas ( line work). all the while complying with BLM , various forest services , Bio monitors , arch monitors, various forestry services, Land preserves , and Private land owners . It is a very daunting task just to do the work ! And your on eggshells every step of the way. One careless mistake and these interties have the authority to shut it all down . Rory is 100% RIGHT! I understand what he is dealing with, and all it takes is a Company not " versed " in the politics of navigating these Hazards to cause further Harm to the environment AND our ability to make a living . You did the right thing Rory . Kudos brother ! I do have a slight advantage on Rory however , I have a 4x4 backhoe.

I have an idea of "the other guys", and if I'm correct, they don't need to be there. It's all about the hype and drama with them. While I'm sure you took a hit in doing this recovery for free, I appreciate you doing what you did to keep the other group out. BLM and a lot of the other alphabet soup people certainly don't need more excuses to take away more lands from those of us who wheel and enjoy the trails responsibly.
Well I have a feeling he is talking about HeavyD and his crew and I would agree that he has a method of just get a bigger vehicle and yank harder, and does some serious damage to areas while removing disabled vehicles.
They put out a video a little bit ago getting an RV out of a dry lake bed. He was clearly inpatient and tore the shit out of the poor guy's RV by just yeeting it in the hemit then got stuck again and had to get some random dude to rescue him because he was showing off and taking aggressive turns while towing. After this he just bails in his helicopter. felt mad disrespectful.
Thanks for helping to protect the land and my trail access. I have donated a fair bit to the Blue Ribbon Coalition to help stop / limit the recent Moab area land closures (and others). For those that care about the cause, I suggest you do what you can.

I feel confident in saying that there is no one else in that area capable of doing what you did in removing that wreck from its position. You may not have been monetarily compensated for that service, but what you did in saving the land from further damage will reap you greater rewards in the future. @@BT-ej9xf scraping big vertical gouges up the canyon walls is a lot more visible and longer lasting damage than dragging it through a wash, the next hard rain will erase any evidence they were ever in the wash

Thought for sure that was a fatal, what amazing safety modern cars have. That thing is crushed to bits, and the frame is snapped at the bed / body area, it took some massive hits.

@@ABRetroCollectionsthey way Rory described it and others on this thread confirmed, it wasn’t really an issue of the driver being in over their head. It was a slight misjudgment of where he was in relation to the soft shoulder and trying to follow the rules of the road to allow others to pass safely. A lighter Jeep probably does not collapse the soft shoulder and pull the vehicle over the edge.
As always, the environmental ethics of Rory and crew are impeccable. They care about the land and the access and contact the right people for permission ... and the BLM and the forest service know this. And for those who have asked about picking up the parts and pieces, did you check out the back of the truck that was full of those? Remember that this is edited so that you don't see every minute of the mission. Mike and Shawn were scouring the side of the cliff for parts and pieces. This was an incredible and impossible looking recovery that took many hours to complete and they took us along for the ride. Great job, Rory and crew!!!

Shoutout to the realest recovery team out there, especially after meeting you all when I came out to Moab earlier this year. I no longer watch the “Offroad recovery production companies”, only you guys who are honest and themselves who put in the work where it counts and just so happen to film it for our pleasure. Mad respect for all the effort and everything that goes into properly and safely doing all of your recoveries, but especially ones like this on protected land. Looking forward to my next trip out to Moab, and respectfully… I hope I only see you guys because I want to! But if I need you then you’re the only game around IMO
@@durial702likley just the one, heavyD. I started out watching his channel but when I realised he had to be in every shot and driving every vehicle it got really old really fast. He's got all the cool toys to be sure but very over the top hero complex kinda deal. if you like this channel you'll probably like "the southern utah crew" consisting of Robby layton nation (probably the closest in terms of nice and honest and fun, to trailm8r) , matts offroad recovery, and fab rats. A notable mention goes out to chads fab who are a seriously under rated channel, but chad and his family are very quiet and capable types who take a lot of pride in doing things well. Doesn't make for dramatic fast paced content but quite satisfying.

I know it’s probably already been said in this thread, but I think it bears repeating. On RUclips drama is everything. Drama is what gets people watching. At least in most cases. I think one of the exceptions to that role might be vice grip garage, when it comes to car revivals. The reason for that is because Derek has a very dry sense of humor. He also works on older classic cars. Junkyard digs is another channel that does car rescues and car revivals. Those guys follow the same formula that vice script does. I actually heard them say that vice grip garage was actually one of their biggest motivations. They’ve worked together on a few different projects. Anyhow, my whole point with this statement was that people that watch RUclips love drama in all its forms. That’s why a lot of those more dramatic car rescue RUclips channels probably have more subscribers. Everybody loves a good action movie.
I can only imagine what the driver went through when it over the hill. I'm glad that survived with their dog. At some point I'm sure they will watch this and realize what a miracle it is that they made it. God was looking out for them.

Dang boy, that’s some mighty fine driving!!!! I don’t know how I missed this when it first came out but soooo glad it came around again. I really appreciate your minimal footprint on the land approach. Anybody can stand on the skinny pedal making trenches. It is an art to control the power, maximizing the traction while leaving the smallest footprint on the land possible. There should be a “Tread Lightly” Gold Standard certification for off road recovery that would indicate to the authorities like the BLM who they should permit off trail.
Part of the reason I love this channel is Rory demonstrates that you can build a vehicle, go out and have fun, while still being conscientious. Leading by example he documents how to not act a fool and ruin things for everyone. Don't be that guy. Respect the land. It's kind of like the guys who were modifying diesel trucks and filming themselves on national television violating federal regulations. I think the public way in which clowns like that flaunt the rules helped lead to the EPA deciding to crack down more aggressively on companies who manufacture "for off road use only" parts that people had been using and flying under the radar for decades. EPA knew it was happening but once rolling coal became a thing they had no choice but to act. Don't poke the bear, kids.

You should checkout Florida Off Road Recovery. It is a 1 Truck 1 person outfit (he sometimes has a camera person) that pulls people out of the swamp with a Jeep. He has no corporate deals on the equipment he uses.

Although I suspect one large helicopter could possibly lift that out, it only needs one person to hike down and rig it up and hook it to the line lowered down. Nobody would be driving across lands or need permission then except for the flight path.

HeavyD couldn't do it with the blackhawk anyway because it hasn't got that permit from the FAA.
This had all the earmarks of a "Heavy D" recovery project. Personally, after 50 years in the recovery industry I'm sure glad it wasn't. I don't much care for his modisaperandi. You did an incredible job. Congratulations.

Thanks for bringing the land closures to light. People think I'm being an a-hole saying "stay the trial, pay for your OHV permits, follow the rules" but I'm doing it because I want to keep the trails open for use.

i work in the Mojave desert and part of my job IS recovering line trucks that weigh between 25000 and 40000 pounds that get stuck in various desert areas ( line work). all the while complying with BLM , various forest services , Bio monitors , arch monitors, various forestry services, Land preserves , and Private land owners . It is a very daunting task just to do the work ! And your on eggshells every step of the way. One careless mistake and these interties have the authority to shut it all down . Rory is 100% RIGHT! I understand what he is dealing with, and all it takes is a Company not " versed " in the politics of navigating these Hazards to cause further Harm to the environment AND our ability to make a living . You did the right thing Rory . Kudos brother !

I have an idea of "the other guys", and if I'm correct, they don't need to be there. It's all about the hype and drama with them. He was clearly inpatient and tore the shit out of the poor guy's RV by just yeeting it in the hemit then got stuck again and had to get some random dude to rescue him because he was showing off and taking aggressive turns while towing. After this he just bails in his helicopter. felt mad disrespectful.
I had the same feeling the moment he said BIG truck. HeavyD often has to fix the land in order to not be fined by blm.

@@BT-ej9xf scraping big vertical gouges up the canyon walls is a lot more visible and longer lasting damage than dragging it through a wash, the next hard rain will erase any evidence they were ever in the wash

Yeah amazing to see the cab of that truck pretty well intact after that. Never would think that someone and their dog would make it through something that crazy.
Thought for sure that was a fatal, what amazing safety modern cars have. That thing is crushed to bits, and the frame is snapped at the bed / body area, it took some massive hits.
They learned their lesson that the TRX was beyond their capabilities. Hopefully the owner goes back to a stock 1500 or Powerwagon for their needs.

@@ABRetroCollectionsthey way Rory described it and others on this thread confirmed, it wasn’t really an issue of the driver being in over their head. It was a slight misjudgment of where he was in relation to the soft shoulder and trying to follow the rules of the road to allow others to pass safely. A lighter Jeep probably does not collapse the soft shoulder and pull the vehicle over the edge.
As always, the environmental ethics of Rory and crew are impeccable. They care about the land and the access and contact the right people for permission ... and the BLM and the forest service know this. And for those who have asked about picking up the parts and pieces, did you check out the back of the truck that was full of those? Remember that this is edited so that you don't see every minute of the mission. Mike and Shawn were scouring the side of the cliff for parts and pieces. This was an incredible and impossible looking recovery that took many hours to complete and they took us along for the ride. Great job, Rory and crew!!!

Shoutout to the realest recovery team out there, especially after meeting you all when I came out to Moab earlier this year. I no longer watch the “Offroad recovery production companies”, only you guys who are honest and themselves who put in the work where it counts and just so happen to film it for our pleasure. @@durial702likley just the one, heavyD. I started out watching his channel but when I realised he had to be in every shot and driving every vehicle it got really old really fast. He's got all the cool toys to be sure but very over the top hero complex kinda deal. if you like this channel you'll probably like "the southern utah crew" consisting of Robby layton nation (probably the closest in terms of nice and honest and fun, to trailm8r) , matts offroad recovery, and fab rats. A notable mention goes out to chads fab who are a seriously under rated channel, but chad and his family are very quiet and capable types who take a lot of pride in doing things well. Doesn't make for dramatic fast paced content but quite satisfying.

I know it’s probably already been said in this thread, but I think it bears repeating. On RUclips drama is everything. Drama is what gets people watching. At least in most cases. I think one of the exceptions to that role might be vice grip garage, when it comes to car revivals. The reason for that is because Derek has a very dry sense of humor. He also works on older classic cars. Junkyard digs is another channel that does car rescues and car revivals. Those guys follow the same formula that vice script does. I actually heard them say that vice grip garage was actually one of their biggest motivations. They’ve worked together on a few different projects. Anyhow, my whole point with this statement was that people that watch RUclips love drama in all its forms. That’s why a lot of those more dramatic car rescue RUclips channels probably have more subscribers. Everybody loves a good action movie.
I can only imagine what the driver went through when it over the hill. I'm glad that survived with their dog. At some point I'm sure they will watch this and realize what a miracle it is that they made it. God was looking out for them.

It is tough to work in a job that has so many that do not have the same ethics as you do and it hurts a person when they see others not caring about the land and environment like they should. I really appreciate your minimal footprint on the land approach. Anybody can stand on the skinny pedal making trenches.
It is an art to control the power, maximizing the traction while leaving the smallest footprint on the land possible.
There should be a “Tread Lightly” Gold Standard certification for off road recovery that would indicate to the authorities like the BLM who they should permit off trail.
Part of the reason I love this channel is Rory demonstrates that you can build a vehicle, go out and have fun, while still being conscientious. Leading by example he documents how to not act a fool and ruin things for everyone.

It's kind of like the guys who were modifying diesel trucks and filming themselves on national television violating federal regulations. I think the public way in which clowns like that flaunt the rules helped lead to the EPA deciding to crack down more aggressively on companies who manufacture "for off road use only" parts that people had been using and flying under the radar for decades. EPA knew it was happening but once rolling coal became a thing they had no choice but to act. Don't poke the bear, kids.

What an incredible rescue of a pile of new truck! A perfect example of accidents happen. Glad he and the dog were ok. They were extremely lucky.

You should checkout Florida Off Road Recovery. It is a 1 Truck 1 person outfit (he sometimes has a camera person) that pulls people out of the swamp with a Jeep. He has no corporate deals on the equipment he uses.

That has to be one of the most challenging recoveries I've seen,and you guys nailed it. I'm am so impressed with the sheer power of the buggy that thing is punching way above its weight class.
