#54. Frothy Resin Waves on a Wooden Lazy Susan - Using a New Heat Gun and Attachment

  • Опубликовано: 20 сен 2024
  • Beachy transparent resin waves on a 40 cm (15.7 inch) acacia lazy Susan. The true colour is much more turquoise than the camera shows and the second layer gave it so much depth. It turned out so perfectly!
    The new unbranded heat gun is 220V 2000W corded with temp range of 60-650C (140-1202F).
    I bought this one: www.ebay.com.a... (edit - this link doesn't exist anymore, sorry)
    I used dark turquoise and titanium white pigment pastes, and DiamondCote resin from Just Resin.
    Go to my website if you would like to buy some of my art.

    This is incredibly! I’ve watch so many videos on how to do this. The wait time of 20 minutes has given me more success. I can not even begin to tell you how many failed attempts I’ve had. Hundreds of dollars in resin.
    I have made huge messes and hours of cleaning things up after an attempt. I’m so impressed how carful and meticulous and seemly effortless you do this. I think maybe I saw one drop on you paper. You have really mastered the art. Your work is beautiful. I aspire to you that one day I’ll get the hang of this and have success. Thank you Nancy,

      Ohh Nancy, thank you for your kind words but I feel your pain. It took me a good 6 months of trial and error to get any kind of lacing, and I'm still figuring out what works and what doesn't.
      If I wait till my resin is nice and thick like cold honey, I get the best results. Thicker seems to hold the cells without them blurring (as long as you don't heat it too much with the heat gun or a torch).
      Best of luck finding your sweet spot! I know you'll get there 😉

      Your technique is amazing 👏
      Have you ever used the ocean coat by just resin?

      I so hear you!! I’ve ruined so many pieces by the last steps of the waves!! Cannot tell you how frustrated I was! She makes it look so perfect and with such ease…I could only hope! I think my problem is the resin I use. But then waiting for it to thicken up, then sometimes it just won’t blow out…I feel your pain!!!

    I have seen many others use different blues in order to achieve that transition from shallow to deep, but simply blending the one colour with the clear looks much more natural, the lacing looks great too, well done.

How can this realism be achieved with a 1 cm thick chemical layer and a few colors of pigment? miraculous effect. gorgeous and unique. and also being able to do this every time. I can't understand, it's just a magnificent dimension of reality. It's not like it was made by hand. the moment of water flow is stopped and frozen. in one word AMAZING

      Thank you 🥰 I know how frustrating that is! I'm using titanium white pigment paste from Just Resin. It's likely to be more pigmented and possibly heavier than the alcohol ink, which helps with the cells. FYI I've done a few comparison videos of different whites on the market if you're interested? There might be one you already have or can get easily?

      @@Procrastipainter thank you for the advice as I sure as heck would have made the first batch too dark! Question, i tried using some turquoise from another vendor a couple months ago and my wood was a pine, so a bit light yellowish. The turquoise against the light yellow looked very green. Do you have to take into account your backgrounds when judging which colors to use? I noticed you used acacia wood I think....

    • @Procrastipainter
      @Procrastipainter  3 года назад +1

      For sure yes you do! Much more so for the transparent colours. You could always give the pine either a full white paint cover or white wash (So you can still see the wood grain). Just make sure it's water based, not oil.

Still seeing that wood under there kind of defeats the entire beach scene for me. Thanks for the lovely video sharing your techniques & the nice smooth music in the background. Why do you wait 20 min before you add the white. Do you let the white sit for 20 min or mix up fresh white? It also appears you do not warm the resin on the board before you add the white. Correct?

    • @Procrastipainter
      @Procrastipainter  2 года назад +2

      I wait for the resin to thicken like cold honey. It holds the cells better. I mix one lot at the beginning that all sits for the same time to thicken. I only briefly pop bubbles with a torch, no warming intended

      That's how long I wait before adding the white - until it's much thicker - that way the cells stay more defined instead of going cloudy. It does self level once it's heated.

    This turned out really pretty. I have a couple of questions. I have a heat tool like yours and I'm so afraid to burn the resin. Is there a trick to not burn it? Also, do you know if there is food safe resin for cutting boards?

    it's very beautiful, can you tell the total quantity used in your project please and is it possible to use the blowtorch for all resins? Thanks a lot.

      Thank you so much 😁 I know there were lots to choose from on eBay alone but they all looked the same to me! Yes, but torch gently, don't scorch your resin 😉
