OCEAN RESIN ART TIME LAPSE - HOW TO PAINT OCEAN WAVES | LARGE 3D RESIN BEACH ART - HUNTINGTON BEACH

  • I created this large 3D Beach art resin painting in 2020 as a commission for nice couple from California, USA. As always I build wooden panels by myself and I create my resin ocean paintings in layers, which have to be hard as glass before I continue. So patience is the key.
    I use:
    Cradled wooden panel (handmade by myself)
    Acrylic Gesso for priming
    Art Resin
    GOLDEN Heavy body and High flow Acrylic paints
    Crushed seashells, sand, pebbles
    Heat gun

    Hi, excellent piece and video. Just a question, when you're adding the white resin at 5.03m, have you left the resin after mixing to thicken before using? I'm finding that my resin is too fluid so just moves as a blob rather than separating into strands (likes yours does) when applying the heat gun. Would welcome any advice. Many thanks.
    David

    • @raskofineart
      @raskofineart  9 дней назад +1

      It is about trial and error numerous times to get your prefered brand of resin act as you wish. I use brand “Art Resin” which is not too fluid, just as I like it. If yours is too fluid, experiment with waiting a bit before pouring it down. It is hard to put in words, just try and never give up 💪

    This is really nice. I have a few questions for you. If I go with your multi-layer for a tabletop do I need to build a frame around to fill evenly resin where you have the wave foam on the sand. Currently shown that sand has a low point than the wave. Secondly, I notice you have a lot of action (waves) in deep water (deep blue area).

    • @raskofineart
      @raskofineart  21 день назад

      I believe for your case it would be the best to build frame around the piece and remove it when finished. But edges would have to be polished later.

    Lovely work! Quick question if I may. I'm making a similar project but my project does not have a frame; it is solid epoxy (with a couple of strips of wood inside). I'm at a loss about how to hang it. I'll have to attach something directly to the back side. Screws? Nails? Any ideas? Thanks

    • @lindadawnwill
      @lindadawnwill 3 года назад

      You may have to find a couple spots on the back to drill a couple holes in that will fit over screws in the wall.
      (Of course that may not be an option if the entire piece is translucent)

    • @raskofineart
      @raskofineart  3 года назад

      I’m so sorry for late reply. I simply overlooked your comment 😳
      You need to drill directly into epoxy from the back and install some hanging hardware. Keep in mind that epoxy is very heavy, so anything you do, it has to be strong. If the project is very translucent, screws will be visible from front side…

    • @raskofineart
      @raskofineart  Год назад +1

      Thank you Steve. It doesn't matter what kind of heat gun you use. It can be done with all of them - just you have to find your approach. I usually use heat on around medium setting - never to hot. Blowtorch is also essential since that extra high temperature makes those little cells. But you have to work quick with it and never overdo the piece. Remember less is more. If you knew how many pieces I've ruined before I found my way of doing this kind of art, you'd be amazed I didn't quit long time ago. There is no "recipe", it is just learning by trial and error, working hard, and never give up! Good luck!

    I am in Croatia atm and am looking for a surface I could buy ready for such a large resin painting. Any chance you could recommend something? I searched in hardwood stores but the wood I bought warped.

    • @raskofineart
      @raskofineart  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, the wood tends to warp. It is alive material and will always "breathe" a little from season to season. You can minimize warping with a few coats of sealer such as GOLDEN or Liquitex Medium (mate or gloss, doesn't matter), and only than primer it with gesso. Someone recommended me XPS foam as a surface for resin art, but I haven't tried it yet. So I can't tell if that works well. It is very dense and not alive material, so it makes sence and I think it shouldn't sag.

      @@raskofineart Thank you so much for the reply. I'll look into all of those tips!
      The last surface I tried pouring resin on is literally a nice uncut counter top from IKEA that I had unused! Hahah it is great size and it didn't warp about anything, but super glossy so the resin didn't distribute perfectly. I didn't prime it well, I think that was the problem.

      Depends on the resin brand and type. I wait at least 24 hours for the type of resin that I use (Art Resin).
