I really like the CC, even in this video the CC side looks so much more natural and to scale IMO. Try adding a drop of white ink to the CC and it will increase the opacity a tad and come out even better. Everyone sees things differently. As long as you're having fun and enjoying your craft I say use what works best you.
Hey, I have had success with CC once I realized that it separates when sitting. The medium rises so it's thicker and less pigmented. You have to shake or mix it for a long time. Hope that helps

I am glad I am not the only one having CC problems with the bottle! I transfer my CC to a different bottle to make it easier for me to use. I was having problems with the lacing and like the tip to wait for it to thicken. Thank you for the comparison video!

I saw that Rivka Wilkins, another great resin artist, uses Armor Art epoxy pigment white for the waves and she gets great results. She shows it in her video ‘how to get lacing/cells with resin’ under Rivka Wilkins Art. Could you perhaps test this pigment too? Can’t get either here so would have to import. I like the way they both stretch over the surface. Like many on here in the comments I have problems creating these waves. I can’t get them to ‘slide’ over the surface creating long waves. What happens is that white pigment moves a couple of cms and than sort of dips down into the clear resin. When I try to move it further I just get a milky blur 😕 or it blends with the blue pigment creating a weird effect. What I learned from your replies is that I probably have to wait a little longer for the white to thicken more. What I think might be the problem though is the viscosity of the resin I’m using. I have already tried different brands (and unfortunately it is all quite expensive 😅) but noticed you mentioned using high viscosity resin. I’ve looked it up and there is quite a difference between the one you use and the resin I have (6000-7250 vs 1200mPas). Have you ever tried low viscosity resin and noticed the same problems? I can’t get the DiamondCote here but I think I will order a higher viscosity resin and try it out. Perhaps it would be a solution for others on here struggling with disappointing results? 🧐
Hey fellow scientist (high five!) 😁 I find that waiting for my resin to thicken helps to get the white to kinda stay on the top section, though it does mix more the further back you push it. It also helps to prevent any cells that do form from sliding and deforming if the resin is so close to setting that it is like running through mud 😆 another sure way to stop the white and blue mixing is to have them in separate layers (blue down first, let it set, then clear with white on top). I do this often, especially if I'm using mica/ luster pigments as I don't like the pastel- blues they make with the white. You might not need to get yet another resin if you wait long enough - consistency like cold honey works well for me. Oh, and maybe play around with how hot/ cool your heat gun is, try the highest flow rate it gives you too. It's funny how different the cells look with diff combinations of these 2 things. Best of luck!

@@Procrastipainter I use JR Titanium White a lot in my 3D resin flowers. I have some Armor Art white but I saw someone, once, use it just as is, without mixing it in resin. I have some experiments with different whites on my channel.
I would suggest trying to build the beach in total before adding the water. The Sepia should be under the water, and extend a bit onto "dry land", as it is the wet sand which is darker... If you pour the Langbridge Titanium and THEN the Sepia, you can blend the Sepia in fully to the water side edge... THEN add your water colors to meet that line... My takeaway on the test is that it would look great for the Castin' craft to be the "on shore" 1st wave, then switch up to JR to get the "deeper" waves further out on the subsequent waves...

Take the cap off the bottle and drill it out one size bigger, clean the cap properly and try it out carefully until you know how much more it lets through. Or you could try cutting the nozzle back a little like cutting the nozzle on a caulking cartridge I suppose too.
Hi thank goodness I have seen someone else having real trouble at getting the casting craft out , it takes all my strength to get a drip , I also am never successful with achieving any lacing whatsoever so I won’t be purchasing this again . Great tutorial thank you .

The Castin' Craft is NO JOKE trying to squeeze out of that bottle! LOL. I thought it was just me! I could not get many cells, and it turned out more like clouds... but then I talked to a few people who said that they add 4-6 drops of white alcohol ink to the mixture and that really helps to get better cells. I'm going to try that next time. Thanks for sharing your video! I love ocean art!
I had someone from a Facebook group tag me to say she couldn't get cells at all in her ksresin, but when she changed to promarine everything worked. So it could be the resin or could be the pigment 😉
I use a large metal paperclip slightly pulled apart and poke the metal length down the bottle opening jiggling in and out a few times. I hope this works for you.
Great video. I am a newbie to resin and y goal is to do a beach scene. I never used nor heard of CC - I just bought Just Resin Titanium White which is difficult to squeeze the paint out ... I mixed it with resin and so-so results. Of course I'm still learning how to manipulate resin with the Heat Gun to get it to move ! Any tips on that ? Do you prefer using the CC for the waves ?

I'm still learning about this method. My last attempt I had lacing but my blue was still to soft (next time I'm letting it fully harden) and the white was able to move about and sink so I lost 90% of my lacing 😢. But I learnt the white needs to surf (sorry for the pun) over the very thin layer of clear and when both are getting to the setting point 🤞 this was a good video on comparison I'm using titanium dioxide white mica 👌😉🫶🤞🤞🤞also I'm waiting for my new spouts for my heat gun 👌
Ooooo I wouldn't let the blue fully harden. Mix one batch of resin, separate into your different colours and leave the white to sit (put at the rest on your piece). When the white is thick like cold honey I've found it holds the cells without blurring so much. Also, if you're using a powder, you might want to make sure you're adding enough. If you dip your stir stick into the white and hold it to run off, can you see through it or is it completely opaque? But you def have the right idea with the surfing analogy 🤙and yes, different adaptors will give different looks depending how far you can push the think white film. CC looks much better and natural maybe a bit more white as you said I seen some people add some drops of alcohol to break it more I am a ocean guy I always live near of it I know perfectly how it looks from above but painting is always a interpretation of nature it doesn't matter some like more texture and someone's don't I will use JR for mamoling effects good luck
I have the CC and YES it doesn't come out, I always have to take the tip off and lose some. Not cool. Both are good, it depends on what look you want. I like the JR better overall, but I do like the water's edge of the CC, too.
After watching this video how to, going with the JResin, looks better than CC. By any chance do you know David A.Smith, he is glass embosser , gold leaf, great artist that I know. He lives in the same town as you.
I too like the look of the JR cells. I looked him up but he's in another country - I'm in Victoria, Australia 😉 the beach sounds are from Torquay on the great ocean road, just up from Bells beach 🤙
I actually like the crastin craft side looks more realistic and yeah it’s hard to get out maybe so you can control the drops that you put in but if you have arthritis forget it 😂 I have both those whites so excited to do this

I agree, the smaller cells would look better for a far-away / aerial look. I had another person say: Cut the very top off of the tip of the bottle. Comes out much easier.
@@Procrastipainter the problem with cutting the tip you have no control of the amount of drops they do that on purpose so it’s controlled! And it may dry out the product more quickly?. Anyway it’s a good hand workout! 😂🥰
Thanks 😁 I wait for the resin to get thick enough, which in the case of DiamondCote is about 20-30 minutes after I finish messing with all the mixing and blending. If you're using a different resin it will be a different amount of time, but you're basically waiting for it to set a little so it holds the cells instead of spreading and mixing.

Me too! Well, with thinking it would explode. That's the main reason I stopped adding more pigment, I thought I'd end up with the whole bottle popping in there 🤣
So as long as I wait for the resin I poured to get thick I should be ok? I can pour white right after mixing, don't have to wait for that. Correct? Sorry for all the ?s
Well, you can pour the white straight away. But I find if I do that, the resin spreads out and the white ends up where it wants, not necessarily where I want. Like the clear will roll over the top of the white (as it's heavier). And it's much easier to check how thick it is if you leave it in the cup
I pushed so hard on the cc bottle I literally popped the end off!! Better stop eating spinach i guess!! I like them both for different reasons, but really like the jr because you dont need as much, but with the cc I always add a drop of alcohol ink to give it a bit more zip. That said, the jr is just easier!! Beautiful work!! Do you put a clear coat over the top for a finish of smoothness?
Oops!! Yeah when I was trying to cut the tip down on mine I had the whole end pop off 🤦♀️ if I get around to trying Castin craft again I'll try the alcohol ink tip 😉 thank you! I'm not sure what you mean about the clear coat for smoothness. If you mean the edge of the white to the canvas, I don't bother with a flood coat
I had the same issue with that stupid bottle. I had to cut the inside out and shove picks up it over and over and it still doesn't work right. I'm all set with needing to work that hard. I'll get something else lol

And did you need to mix any alcohol with it? Also I see people using different types of touches do yiu recommend one? As you can tell I'm completely new to this. Hi 👋 it's titanium white pigment paste from Just Resin. You can get it directly from their website. No need to add anything extra. Whatever torch you can get should be fine 😁
Well considering it costs me $15 in shipping and they're only 45 minutes away, that's not that bad. You could try Artist Till Death in Dallas Texas? They carry Just Resin products 😉
I use high with the platypus adaptor as it pushes the white further. So it will depend on what adaptor you're using and how much push your heat gun has

When making lace waves with jr...is your heat gun hot, warm or what? Low wind or high? Thank you!!!!
Heat gun is about half heat (250-300C) and I vary between high and low flow. I find the high setting pushes the white further.

CC looks much better and natural maybe a bit more white as you said I seen some people add some drops of alcohol to break it more I am a ocean guy I always live near of it I know perfectly how it looks from above but painting is always a interpretation of nature it doesn't matter some like more texture and someone's don't I will use JR for mamoling effects good luck

I have the CC and YES it doesn't come out, I always have to take the tip off and lose some. Not cool. Both are good, it depends on what look you want. I like the JR better overall, but I do like the water's edge of the CC, too.

Yes, I had problems too..but I kinda poked it with a pin multiple times to make the opening a little bigger, now it flows better.
I tried that and almost got the pin stuck 😆 didn't seem to make it any easier so I just took the top off and poured it 👌

I actually like the crastin craft side looks more realistic and yeah it’s hard to get out maybe so you can control the drops that you put in but if you have arthritis forget it 😂 I have both those whites so excited to do this
Thanks 😁 I think with more practice (this was literally the first time I've touched Castin craft) I might get a nice soft lacing. I agree, the smaller cells would look better for a far-away / aerial look. I had another person say: Cut the very top off of the tip of the bottle. Comes out much easier.
@@Procrastipainter the problem with cutting the tip you have no control of the amount of drops they do that on purpose so it’s controlled! And it may dry out the product more quickly?. Anyway it’s a good hand workout! 😂🥰

Great video, do you always wait 20 minutes after mixing just the white or are you waiting for later to set a little?
Thanks 😁 I wait for the resin to get thick enough, which in the case of DiamondCote is about 20-30 minutes after I finish messing with all the mixing and blending. If you're using a different resin it will be a different amount of time, but you're basically waiting for it to set a little so it holds the cells instead of spreading and mixing.

Me too! Well, with thinking it would explode. That's the main reason I stopped adding more pigment, I thought I'd end up with the whole bottle popping in there 🤣
So as long as I wait for the resin I poured to get thick I should be ok? I can pour white right after mixing, don't have to wait for that. Correct? Sorry for all the ?s
Well, you can pour the white straight away. But I find if I do that, the resin spreads out and the white ends up where it wants, not necessarily where I want. Like the clear will roll over the top of the white (as it's heavier). And it's much easier to check how thick it is if you leave it in the cup

I pushed so hard on the cc bottle I literally popped the end off!! Better stop eating spinach i guess!! I like them both for different reasons, but really like the jr because you dont need as much, but with the cc I always add a drop of alcohol ink to give it a bit more zip. That said, the jr is just easier!! Beautiful work!! Do you put a clear coat over the top for a finish of smoothness?
Oops!! Yeah when I was trying to cut the tip down on mine I had the whole end pop off 🤦♀️ if I get around to trying Castin craft again I'll try the alcohol ink tip 😉 thank you!
I'm not sure what you mean about the clear coat for smoothness. If you mean the edge of the white to the canvas, I don't bother with a flood coat
I had the same issue with that stupid bottle. I had to cut the inside out and shove picks up it over and over and it still doesn't work right. I'm all set with needing to work that hard. I'll get something else lol

I wait for the resin to thicken up a bit, so about 20-15 minutes before the working time. It seems to hold the cells better when its thicker 👍
Castin craft seems foamier and realistic but I still prefer Jr titanium white ❤

I keep it at about half heat. It has no numbers on the dial so I'm guessing it's about 250-300C

You can try mermaid trash. It’s works pretty well for me!
You can get JR from Artist Till Death website in Dallas - they stock JR pigments and resin. Mermaid trash is on my list to try too!
When using the heat gun do u just use the low speed or both?
With the concentrator nozzle I use low because if its high the resin sprays across the room!

I use high with the platypus adaptor as it pushes the white further. So it will depend on what adaptor you're using and how much push your heat gun has
