Amazing video, thank you. I wish more people would make tutorials about difficult/annoying shots. It's easy to track flat surfaces with nothing in foreground, etc. The issues are always with the edge cases. Thank you again. I subscribed.

I dont know I said the same thing last year. this is like top notch, no BS stuff. must've watched his stuff over and over 50 times and always glean some new info NOBODY ever thought to mention.
Hi Bryan. I have lost count of the number of times I have seen this tutorial. Together with the 3D camera tracking tutorial it is a masterclass. Really, thank you very much for sharing it
all the "bigger" youtubers dont cover things like that, I worked with the planar tracker quite a while and for my understanding so many people dont know how to use this tool properly. Thank you for being an exception!
I know this was said by someone else.... BUT thank you for diving deeper into Fusion, you have cleared up quite a bit of confusion regarding these techniques and concepts...no clickbait amateur hour here...thanks for this decent legit content....you have a new follower... im currently going through the official fusion book and they dont touch on solving track problems like this
Let me weight in with the repetitive comments: finally someone who teaches tracking properly without any hype but just useful, straight to the point knowledge. I was getting crazy and this video explains very well how to fix lost tracks! Thank you!
I hate that most youtubers demonstrate screen tracking and replacement with the most simple shots imaginable while in reality you need to work with much more complex footage. so thank you very much for making an actually useful tutorial. would have loved though if you also did the screen replacement, demonstrating how to get a good key and realistically composite something onto the phone. one thing i find particularly challenging is dealing with reflections of the fingers on the green screen. could you consider making a tutorial which covers this?
Hey Steve thanks for the suggestion. I was planning on doing one on this very issue with screen replacement and keeping the reflections. Hopefully soon! Thanks!
Your videos are super helpful - very detailed and presented to address real world usage. I'm subscribed to your channel and always look forward to new instructional videos. Thank you for publishing these!
Pretty slick. I didn't know you could pause the track, change the track focus, and then resume the tracking. I just went back to a shaky track and that helped a lot. There's still much I don't know but this helped a lot.
Please tell us how to change a fusion clone stroke to the foreground, so the single clone stroke can be copied to any frame and adjusted on any chosen frame. Thank you so much for all you do, Sir!
Thanks a lot for sharing! Great content. Great teaching style! You should do an "Advanced Fusion Course". I'm certainly ready to pay for that 👍😊 It's hard to find anything but "Fusion page for beginners" done by all the click hungry youtubers, all going through the same easy stuff. We need to see the real potential of fusion. Show us please 😀 I always think I need After Effects and Mocha pro, but with tutorials like this I learn that I don't. I already have the tools in Fusion.
It's convenient how everything in these tracker tutorials has that green background with black crosses and is moving slowly. What about fast pace tracking - like highlighting a player as they run with the ball in sports analysis like you see them do on TV.
@@prophetless man I understand, we all have busy lives, Im just grateful for whatever you put out. and I just now watched this and once again, after 2 years in fusion I had no idea we could actually change motion type in a layering fashion like that as we go along. thats cool. thanks as always, and by the way, been playing with "lockdown" quite a bit and its a REALLY fun plugin. OK, looking forward to the next one my man, hope alls well over there.
@@prophetless thanks mate I really hope it works out too! A lot riding on it to be honest. My biggest worry is the last few frames or so I have less than half a phone in view and nothing to attach the tracker to as everything is moving.
Finally! Someone got these difficult one done. Thank you so much for that!! I have a question. You know how you added the mask in the beginning to exclude hand and the coat, could you give us some insight how you can do this using magic mask? like while using planar tracker, how can i include magic masked result in to the planar tracker? please help!
Hi, thx again for your tutorial. For this kind of comp, the goal is to set, after tracking, the merge mode of the tracker on "BG over FG" and apply a keying on the green part, ... but in that case, to get rid of the marking crosses is painful lol ... I masked each cross with an ellipse on a lumakeyer placed after the deltakeyer but the result is not perfect when the cross is partialy covered by a finger.
Did you try to pull a luma key on the finger? You might be able to pull a key on the finger and add it back on top at the end of the composition. Or you might have to do a rotoscope for the finger to get it to look right.
no I didn't, but finally with little trims the result is not that bad, but for sure this is not an easy tracking. I didn't use perspective at the beginning of the track (I mean starting from the end of the comp) but Afine+TRS, then manual corner pin at the beginning of the comp for around 30 frames
Thx.vm, Prophet, meanwhile I learned more about it in the very coooooool "handy screen moving" video tut here on your platform. But i hang at the point where you got the alpha for the finger from?!
Great tutorial! Thanks so much! I've got a problem though: When I append the track with a different region my corner pin jumps to the location of the tracked area instead of staying in place... any idea how to fix this?
Sounds like you might be appending the reference frame. If you do that it will move the corner pin. If you append the spline to track on any other frame it will center to the reference frame.
Cool video! Quick question : There is a little handy way to paint out stuff in fusion using the planar, track, set it to steady, copy the planar tracker and invert the steady. Then you can merge it back with the original footage, and everything you do in there kinda stays in place if your track is good enought. Do you know if there is a way to translate that info you did in the corner pin tab to to the steady tab? I'm trying it out but the steady part dosen't seem to listen to my corner pin fix when the tracker get's a little off
Thanks! I would probably approach it a little differently. Instead of doing the corner pin in the planar tracker do it in between the steady/invert steady, just like you would for paint work. Then you can animate the corner pin and everything should line up.
I need an advice please ! I’m tracking an airplane. Airplane goes behind the trees and after 2 seconds it comes out again. At this point when airplane is behind the tree I do loose tracking. What should I do to avoid this ? Thank you 😊
A more detailed example of adding an occlusion mask is in this video: ruclips.net/video/zQGiYTSnYZI/видео.html The only difference is I used a magic mask instead of Polygons to make the mask. Or are you referring to how to do the animated mask?
This one is just about the tracking but there are many out there about the screen replacement. I'm actually working on one now that deals with compositing the screens. Should be out soon.
When you say you " skip to a frame " to track, do you mean you started tracking and then skipped over some frames and are trying to start tracking again? If so The planar tracker won't let you do that. One of the limitations, at least right now. You can move the pattern around and track other things but you can't skip frames.
@@prophetless When I turn on Planar Tracking and I click “Track Forward” or “Track to End” it freezes and I have to restart. It only renders 5% of the 5 second clip, is it just because my laptop is too slow?
Make sure you have it connected to the right input. You can tell if it's correct when you start tracking, if you have show trackers and trails turned on in options, You should only see trackers show up in the areas you want. A second thing to look out for is you may need to invert your mask.

What is the difrerent between surface traker and traker ?
The planar tracker is used for a planar surface and the surface tracker is mainly used for deforming surfaces.
One question ? Can I resolve it with surface tracker ?
You probably could by bringing the mesh rigidity up, but for this shot I think the planar tracker is better suited.
