I second this. A good chunk of youtube is thumbnails and clickbait titles and been able to have recommendations by someone you trust for other parts of Davinci helps save a ton of time and fustration sifting through all the "luts" and "quick hack" videos.

Im new to editing. Haven't used any software. I'm looking for that 2 hr. Media page tutorial. Then the 5 hr. CUT page with SPEED EDITOR covering every possible detail. Then a 10 hr. Tutorial bringing the 3 together to tell a story before moving on to the fine tuning pages. So many videos jump page to page and show what DR 18 can do, but don't cover the why you do it this way and then the how. Maybe YT doesn't pay enough. Create a subscription offer. Part 1 through 50 in 1 hr. tutorials. I've watched many DR 17 and spent more time trying to decipher the process because the layout is different. So DR 18.5 would be ideal. Yes, I've watched the Blackmagic DR 17 tutorials and can not keep up. Spent more time rewinding. If anyone can point me in the right direction to a full tutorial. Really appreciate it

I worked in the television industry since 1993 and have worked on several non-linear editing systems including the IMIX Video Cube, Media 100, Premier, FInal Cut Pro and several others. I retired several years back and didn't think I would ever want to edit again but I've gotten the itch to do some stuff for myself lately. On a recommendation of a friend, I downloaded DaVinci and then found your channel. Thanks for helping me get started. Great job.

@@DarrenMostyn I had just finished college and moved back to my little home town of 20,000 people in the midwest and a small little cable station production house had the Imix Video Cube. By happy coincidence, this was the FIRST Davinci Resolve video that I watched on RUclips. That was about 4 months ago. Since that time, I have watched a lot of video from you and from the others whom you recommend at the end of this video. It has meant a great deal to me that you took a minute to list them... especially by their areas of expertise. I am so fortunate to have this group of professionals as my go-to teachers. I feel like my DR journey started right here. Thank you.

Perfect, I have been using DR for 2 years and this is the first time someone has clearly explained how it is set up. I kind of worked out to hide media and cut pages after several tutorials. I just use edit. I didn't know about libraries though. The one thing I dont like about iMovie is the whole library gets appended so it grows huge and you cannot just delete a few projects without screwing the file up.

A note on purchasing the Studio version. I was new to Resolve but purchased the Studio version at B&H Photo bundled with the Speed Editor. The price is $100 over the cost of just the license but well worth it in terms of convenience and learning to use the application.

Why are YT content creators so worried about their videos being long?
This video is jam-packed with information and if he just were less worried about going over the 1hr mark it would have been even better than it already is
Just to clarify: I want to start editing videos, have used Premiere Pro 20 years ago for a single project (lots of flexibility but also lot of hard work) and was trying to decide which of the big 3 to use. Each one has pros and cons, but Adobe’s subscription policy is really akin to getting someone addicted to a drug and then milking them by selling them the drug. That kinda rules out Premiere.
This guy has just sold me to DaVinci Resolve, but there was no hurry. I would have happily watched a 1hr video on this subject…

I wanted to move from clipchamp to Davinci for the longest time but my PC was a potato. This video got me started with my first project. It is kind of overwelming but I like all the new things I can do.
    Thanks

Completely new to Video editing, really found your Newbies Guide so useful and has given me confidence to start doing some educational videos that i always wanted to do. One question - how did you get your screen shots onto your video, would be really interested to know - do you have a video on how to do this.

Been watching your channel for quite some time now and even though I consider myself "knowing how to use Resolve" would love to buy your course if you're planning to create one.

Hi Darren, thank you for the great videos!
I purchased the speed editor/studio lic and am going through all your videos to learn.
Question: Do you use DaVinci to capture your screen and make your videos or do you use Camtasia to assemble your YT training videos?
    Thank you!

Your videos are amazing. Learning so much. I had a question. When you grade your footage, you can export a flat pass so it doesn't have your color grade...however if you've done any work in fusion on a clip, those changes get exported. Is there a way to export out the raw footage and ignore all your color and fusion work without having to go on each clip and deactivate the nodes?

Dear Darren, thank you for your tutorial. It really helped me getting started with my first editing experience in davinci resolve! I like the style of your video. Besides, while talking about style: Whats the brand of the shirt btw? 😁

I bought the speed editor last month and received a licence code for the studio version with the hardware. So I got the speed editor and DR Studio for £300. Very pleased!

This is great! I’m tired of the Adobe subscription model. As a serious home user it makes no sense. Resolve looks to be the answer.

Thanks Darren for your brilliant tutorials. I was wondering if by chance if you have created any videos on best workflows for when you are dealing with HDR and SDR deliverables with Davinci Studio. Do you have to do a second color grade or is there a faster way to adapt an HLG colour grade to Rec 709 with Davinci?

Been using vegas pro for about 4 years but looking to improve audio and colour correction/grading. This software looks really nice. I’ve used premier pro but found it slow for jump cutting which is what I primarily do.

Well done! I appreciate your teaching style and knowledge. Coming from FCP, but I’ve struggled with color for years. I bought a Colorite Passport, and am giving this a shot. And that’s after buying a brand new iPad M4 max because the rollout showed them using four iPhones with the iPad and Final Cut Pro. The colors are absolutely terrible. Looking forward to learning something new.
Will also check to see if you have anything on lighting. Lighting is another thing I’ve struggled with. I would love to see somebody come out with a video that is a simple light set up for instructional videos…we do fused glass videos, and minimizing shadows and having overall great lighting is an necessity. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for the generous donation. Appreciated. I dont deal with lighting on shoots as I am purely a colourist, so I add light in post if it needs it. Thanks for joining my channel! All the best, darren

Fantastic intro - thankyou! I came back from a holiday in Rarotonga with a bunch of 4k go-pro snorkeling footage, only to find Videostudio not handling the big files. So downloaded DaVinci Resolve and wanting to learn quickly how to create a project, fix the underwater colours, crop and trim etc. Looks like I've come to the right place! One organisation question - Would you recommend I work with the big video files on my harddisk (and the project file on my SSD), or should I move them to my SSD for performance in creating the project and then rendering final movie? I'm guessing that if I move to the SSD, then I'm committed to keeping them there or the project links won't be there in the future? (unless I can make the links to the media files relative to the project file?). Thanks!
