      Hey mountaindog1 have you ever used dumbbell high pulls for your shoulder work out? If yes, are they harmful to the ball an socket if used to often? Thanks

    • @briandeshler8711
      @briandeshler8711 5 лет назад

      mountaindog1 on the rear delt swings you were doing, is there a way to modify it for a taller guy? When I set the angle on the bench to roughly where you guys had it the dumbbells can come to rest on the floor (my gyms benches are sadly low to the ground and the hinge point doesn’t raise the height anywhere sadly)...when I set the angle higher i can feel my traps kicking in and it takes weight off the posterior delt. I appreciate the content as always!

    I love your shoulder workout advice. I'm 48 years old and trained extremely heavy on barbell pressing movements for chest and shoulders for years. That coupled with high school and Collegiate wrestling destroyed my left shoulder to the point of full-thickness tears in all four of my rotator cuff muscles. Surgery was miserable and recovery was a long and painful process. After two years I worked back up to my former strength levels, and then at 45 took 2 years off and resumed training at 47. Believe it or not when I was back to heavy close grip pressing and slight decline pressing oh, I could not do a single push-up without excruciating pain or any overhead pressing work. Now I can do deficit push-ups and full range dips pain-free. to this day however I stay away from any overhead pressing other than with bands are light dumbbells. Most of my shoulder work comes from side laterals and bent lateral raises. All my front delt work comes from push-ups and pressing for chest. when I go heavy on chest I have to wear the reactive slingshot or use accommodating resistance so shoulder stress is reduced at the bottom of the Press. when I started adopting the really heavy partial side and bent laterals, and then using lighter weights weather cable or dumbbells for the top portion of the movement, my side delts and rear delts for the first time in my 35 year lifting career experienced the kind of deep soreness that is usually associated with leg and back training. when I trained heavy overhead presses and threw in side and bent laterals as an afterthought oh, I had it big front delts they gave me an appearance of thickness from the front, and due to having wide clavicles I had some shoulder with that had nothing to do with having any meat on the side of my delts and when I turn sideways I had those pathetic sloping rear delts and when I turned around all the way, my very overdeveloped traps, thick Erectors from deadlifting made my pathetic rear delts look even more ridiculous. The funny thing is that my overall back development, including wide upper lats thick lower lats, fully developed traps and rhomboids combined with a very thick neck, seemed only to_my lack of rear delts when I was wearing a t-shirt or at the beach. the most amazing thing about it is I now have well developed rear delts, I do a lot of weighted Pull-Ups for lats, but I can no longer do barbell rows or heavy deadlifts without getting an injury sooner or later regardless of how good my form is and regardless of how light the weight is relative to what I used to work with. the point is that I had much more meat across my entire back before and still looked relatively unimpressive from the rear because I had no rear delts and now that I have them with a little bit better lats but far less meat across my tire back I get more compliments on my back and size than I ever did when I was bigger and thicker. I have to say that you are absolutely right in that the small muscles of the rear delts have the largest visual impact on your physique than any other muscle on the body. it is really amazing to me how rear delts side delts and upper chest can transform a physique dramatically without gaining more than a pound or two across the entire area

    the swinging raises you do for rear delt is actually probably the best exercise scientifically if you think about it, rear delt is a shorter muscle so you dont particularly need such big range of motion. definitely going to use these as my rear delt is lacking. Great video
