John Meadows is an American professional bodybuilder and entrepreneur with an intriguing story. While John now boasts a successful career as an IFBB Pro bodybuilder and fitness company owner, his journey towards the top was extremely difficult.
Growing up, John never met his father, and his mother died at an extremely young age. This meant John only had his grandmother to take care of him. When his grandmother tragically passed away in 1999, John was left alone without his family to support him.
As the years went by, John continued to face new adversities in his life. During his early days in bodybuilding, John suffered from a rare colon disease. After fighting the disease for several months, his colon burst - almost resulting in his death. Luckily, John was quickly rushed to an emergency room where his life was saved. After several months of recovery, John was finally back on his feet.
Coming back into bodybuilding, John used the very obstacles that almost cost him his life as ‘fuel’ to grow stronger. Ever since he recovered from the colon surgery, John has gone on to become a successful bodybuilder, entrepreneur, and inspiration for many people all over the world.

Good information as always thanks brother
Your channel is so helpful and us subscribers appreciate you John 💪
Good job bro
Hey you're videos are the best because u get straight to the point wit no bullshit!! That's y I watch you're videos!!
Tried the cable side lateral today. 98% improvement in trap engagement. My gym's set up isn't quite the same though. Pretty close but not identical.
John is like the Bob Ross of bodybuilding.- something about the calm voice and mastery of his craft.
haha!
mountaindog1
Gonna work those happy little delts! Haha
I'd love to be friends with anyone who gets that comment!! I could not agree more.
Yes! That is why I like to watch him, aside from the great info and that we are of a similar age.
@@goatsurgeon happy big delts*
Just devastated to hear the news about John. I could drone on about how his videos and methods have transformed my body since I found him in 2017, but the loss of a fitness guru is nothing compared to the loss of a father and husband. I'm just heartbroken for his family.

Oh good. Maybe you can provide me with a reliable source?
Rear delt flys - 15 reps - 3 sets
Side lateral partials - 15-25 reps - 3 sets
Lying cable side laterals - 10-15 reps 3 sets
Smith machine shoulder press 8 - 12 reps 3 sets
No Iam not
Try 8 sets and you will grow much faster
@@killacam12345679 Have you done 3 and went to 8 and seen the difference?
Thank you
thepheniox4500 I do 10 sets on curls but almost every other type of workout I only do 5 sets but like 3 - 4 dif types
You are the only guy in the industry that I watch and learn the why's. I love the fact that you don't swear, are non confrontational and just show full passion with what you do. Well done for just being you and not changing to suit the fake fitness industry.
Try Eric Broser on Jay Cutler TV....you'll like him for the same reasons!!
check out Seth Feroce
I agree keep it up
Joy Flint who gives a fuck if he swears or not that’s not a reflection of his intelligence if he did.

I dont care what any gurus telling you, this is working your rear delt
Of course it is. But there are better exercises to do that will target them more effectively.
And we’ve located a guru
@@soonerborn7603 can I have an example?
I always, always love your content. You're such an accomplished and intelligent guy, who so little ego, it's just comical. Much love and respect, brother. The internet is a better place for you being here. Thank you!
thank you sir :)
I thought your thumbnail was a torso and some merged single leg like mermaid thigh. It was a knee and calf haha
I totally agree -- no ego and no profanity -- only good instruction! Thanks!
@@nonconformist58 Why does he sound so refreshing? This (his presentation methods) used to be a norm. Maybe because I don't have to use filters to hear his message?
@@mountaindog1 RIP brother. You were and are a great man. Glad we can remember you in these videos.
He's just such a good genuine guy. Really wanted to meet him. Aside from giving my all in my workouts, I'm gonna try and continue his legacy by trying to be the nicest person no matter what. RIP Mountain Dog
Well said!
RIP John! You will be missed.
I swear to god, the tips in this video are priceless. I started implementing them about a year ago and needed to come back to this video to say: IT IS WORKING!!! I coach some of my friends and all their shoulders are growing like never before. Thank you John for making us grow!
Rest in peace big dog🙏🏻❤️
Did it this morning for the first time! Was fire 🔥🔥
Holycrap, this guy looks like a jacked Luke Skywalker.😳😳😳
I still can't believe you gone John. Thank you for your contribution in the fittness world man. You are a true legend.
Nicest bodybuilder ever! RIP
I hate you John. Could only do 8lb rear delts, 10lb partials and 75lb smith press. Afterwards, my arms were shaking. I apparently have never hit my shoulders before in my life....
Looking forward to laughing at this comment in a year when i actually have delts 💪
I do lighter weight also with higher reps! Light weight and high reps seem better on the joints! Still get that burn!
@@robreid3521 lighter weights are the ONLY way if you're weak. BUT keep at it and you're not weak anymore. Good luck n keep pumping.
I'm not weak by any means! I use lighter weight with higher reps. I already had two shoulder surgeries and don't want another!
@@robreid3521 Was talking about Julius. Good luck and yes lighter weight have their place.
@@robreid3521 I've torn my bicep and had shoulder issues the past year but my shoulders are still my strong point, still kept size due to very high reps and light weight!

I miss this guy.
How can someone disagree with John ? He's a mountain of knowledge.
In the world of would be 'fitness gurus' and 'wannabe authorities', how in the hell are you not more popular?!
You actually provide scientific and evidence based approaches, not like the broscience community.
All your content is gold! Keep it up man!
Objectively, he did not provide any evidence except for anecdote...
Cause he ain't selling sex with his workouts
cause his shirt is not off ,he didnt say "please subscribe and SMASHHHH that like bottom and click the bell icon"at the beggining of the video,or selling suplements etc,i just subscribed neways lol,i like anything with dumbbells involved.
Matt Leonard fucking look at the guy is that not all the evidence you need 😂
"John Meadows here"...I will miss that opening greeting.
Rip John. Thank you for everything you gave us.
RIP John. You’ve influenced the industry more than you will ever know. Thanks so much for your knowledge and kindness. You will be truly missed.
How did he die?

Rip man can’t believe you’re gone 😔
You know John, you never give useless information. I really thank you for that. RUclips is so full of BS artists. Seeing real people giving good information is a real joy. Not to mention that my delts suck and I'm going to put this stuff to work. Thanks again!
thank you much!
In a way, I hate the internet, but it's hard to hate something that allows me to keep learning from John after he is gone.
Thanks to whoever keeps this channel up.
Holy hell! My shoulders are completely demolished after this workout!
:)
R.I.P John meadows
Whoa, I thought it was a buff Mark Hamill at first...
Muahahhahahaha🤡🃏
Bwuahahahahahaha
Saaame
ok, so added the partial delt raises to my workout yesterday. These worked GREAT!! nearly zero trap engagement once I got zero'd in. From my mental notes:
1. Pay special close attention to how high you raise the dumbells, this is going to be different for everyone and where traps start to engage
2. To get full benefit of the heavier weight and get max pump, fully contract the delts in the lower position before beginning the lift. When you perform the lift keep this max contraction all the way up and all the way down. Let the dumbells come to rest, relax the contraction. Rinse and repeat keeping a steady 1-2 second rhythm for 12 reps or more.
I did 5 straight sets of 12 walking up the rack. What a new feeling for me. My middle delts are finally sore!! This is now a perm part of my delt workout!! I should start to see new gains in about 3-4 weeks if my shoulders react to this the way I think they will.
I wish other trainers on the internet were as down-to-earth & knowledgeable as you, but that is the difference between legends and trolls
RIP JON MEADOWS :( the mountain dog
I had weak rear delts and decided last year to train them first on my pressing/shoulder day. I wasn't aware that I was doing something right. It just made sense to me to hit them while I was fresh, so I could give them 100%. Sometimes it's nice hearing someone with much more experience validate your methods. Thanks for the great content!
you bet!
John Medows was simply the best. Very respectful, full of knowledge and always willing to pass it on. The epitome of a class act, RIP John!
Been in the fitness game a long time and I love hearing stuff like this. It's simple but makes sense and he explains it in a very down to earth understandable manner. This is legacy right here, still making an impact from the grave! RIP
I do the partial side lateral raise and do a drop set down to 10-15lb dumbbells and burnout with full reps... It's a killer combo!
JimboSlice195 i was literally thinking of doing just that for tonights workout lol
Amen , hallelujah! Thank you so much driving this home.
Thank you for all you do John!! 🙏
Those cable lateral raises on the iso row machine, they totally transformed my routine! It was so simple all along, I can't believe I didn't think of it! Much appreciated!
I just recently came across your channel. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your no-nonsense approach to lifting. Totally refreshing. Old school all the way!! Carry on!
Should have started this with Dear John
prince pete underrated comment
those are great shoulder building tips... Thanks John!
I really hope people understand that not too long ago people were paying money for magazines with generic instruction and dehydrated bodybuilders flexed during the movement to “inspire”. I’m so glad for channels like this that make me want to go to the gym and try it out, more than any magazine ever did.
That partial side lateral raise is a great tip I wished I'd known that years ago! It works primarily the Lower Side delt!
Fantastic as always, few people actually educate the public, thanks john
Me always having crappy shoulder days because of pain and neglecting them for awhile this vid just gave me a huge confidence boost.
Always appreciate the content. You are truly a fitness guru.
Straight to the point without bullshit, less talk and more action....keep it up brotha 😎 love it...
Thank you John! Rear delts are important also side delts and those high rep tips are amazing 👍💪
For fitness youtube there's always boring recycled information so it's surprising and nice to hear good tips from you I've never seen before. The machine where you laid down and did lateral raises was something I would've never thought of
Thank much for the old school vids on the 4 major muscles. I've been using them for about 2wks now. I am feeling much stronger and as you say "fill those muscles with blood".
He's a legend. I like how humble and down to earth he is. Inspiring
John is just so relatable and understanding. He never criticizes someone's potential gym errors that their making. He just gives you tips to possibly fix them.
It's obvious that John has deep knowledge and experience on his side. Things I relate to being in the sport 30 years.
When I find ol skool teaching I have to subscribe... Everything in this world has gotten away from the basics right is wrong and wrong is right. Great tutorial!!!!!!
John is the real deal! Watching John is like having a professional/bodybuilder teaching you and training with you right in the gym. His training techniques are golden. Thank you John, Daniel, Long Beach, CA.
John needs to hit 1 million subs already, this guy seems so calm and cool, and non judgemental, he really breaks things down to be understandable to the less informed
I am looking forward to try this workout! Thank you!
RIP John. May your legacy continue on
I love how honest he was with all this knowledge he left us with. Thank you John! 🙏🏽
Thank you again!
Gonna start with rear delts on my next shoulder day! 👍
Those partials are going in my mix ASAP. Great stuff as always John.
I've found with side raises I can always get at least 2 more after I think I'm finished. Embrace that pain guys and gals. Here we grow!
Great old school way to train shoulders , simple and efficient ...thanks for the video John ...
Gee I started my workout with rear delt seated flies and it's a killer! Changed the entire dynamic of the workout. John does it again
I was lucky enough to be surrounded by experienced lifters when I started in the gym, 23 years ago. I still use what I learned from those guys. The advice you give is priceless.
This man seems different from other influencers on RUclips😭 like he seems super nice and relaxed while being an absolute beast 🤘🏽
One of the most informative videos in shoulder training I’ve ever seen.
I did the rear delt exercise along with a few of your other recommended exercises from your "capped shoulder" workout. I did not think it would work, but it really was great. I actually feel my delts being sore the next day! Thank you!
I will be trying this routine on my next shoulder day. Thanks again John for your knowledgeable non ego driven advice. Very inspirational and humble. G’day from Melbourne, Australia:)
Wow, just amazed at how humble you are. Love your videos and have been incorporating them in my routine. I feel that all your content offers incredible advice in a clean and informative manner. Thank you
I though nothing will help my shoulders until I tried your workout. It just works for me so well. Thank you John and you always be remembered💪🙂
This make sense thank you John. Still helping people RIP.
Really like your videos especially as I'm back training after 10 years away and have a broken collar bone and dislocated shoulder 4 times so learning new angles is really helpful thank you
Great video, will be incorporating these movements in my next shoulder workout.
You da Man 👍, love how everything you do has a reason behind it and is logical rather then trainers these days telling you to lift without an explanation keep it up, iam a big fan
Been in the gym for about 6 months now and your videos have help me so much. Thank you sir
Ok I implemented the first two exercises into my shoulder routine, I have to say, it worked great and was less stress on my shoulders, the small movement worked great! The burn was awesome!!
These videos make you want to hit the gym asap. Awesome stuff.
From now on will work my delts this way thanks guy.!
Thanks so much for this, John! I wish you were still around!
Smith machines are great for us old blokes who's gym is in the garage and the missus can't spot for you.
Again, there are whole regimens based on partials, either exploiting the strongest part of range, or exercising within your sticking point.
Again, a great video.
Thanks coach, it helped me a lot!
Those lying side raises are the best side delt pump I’ve had in years. Thank you John 🙏🏻 miss you brother
This guy is the definition of a guru, and humble to boot.
Clean, simple to understand, and effective workouts with great explanations! Love it!
Been watching alot of your vids recently John. There great. Gona try all these 5 tips tomorrow. I liked the partial side delts tip!!
Really glad I came across your channel ! Great content, thank you
I liked this sound advice. And somehow it’s got a real friendly vibe to it. Thanks, guys.

Great common sense approach,, keeping it simple, but effective.

I started to follow your workout videos as a guideline and I see huge improvement in my results and motivation to keep working out. Thanks man!
I am so glad I found your channel, I think you are a great teacher, your calm demeanor and easy going attitude is what attracted me to your workout videos. I use to workout daily and was in great shape back in my Marine corps days but fell off after my time ended and had some injuries to my leg. You inspired me to get back in the gym and I appreciate that. Also you look very much like a friend I served with who past . Thanks again bro God bless
Been working my shoulders a while now and no matter how many techniques I've tried over the years all the popular channels all over RUclips and I never felt them the way I wanted to, so far I tried the first two exercises and I started feeling them as fast as the first set! exactly what I've been looking for.
BOOOOOM!
JM: good shit as always u always speak from experience and that type of info is invaluable!!!! 💯🇲🇽🇺🇸
Looking forward to doing this routine tomorrow. Great vid as always!
Thank you very much for all the time you put into these videos. Best training videos I have came across. Thank you again John!
You are the best, your explanation is excellent, thaks for all the tips
Good tips John! Nothing burns like the high reps rear delts fly. Thanks!💪

I love how it feels like John is right next to you speaking to you I forgot this was a video for a second💪🏻
Thank you John and your gym friends for teaching us how to properly train specific targeted muscles, reach new goals on a daily basis, be motivated and enjoy going to the gym and trying new (and old school) techniques. much love and respect from Toronto, Canada!!
I was having trouble finding a good mid delt exercise when I came across John’s channel. This video. I have learned so much from you and I still do these exercises weekly in my routine.
You have given out so much knowledge on bodybuilding, not to mention the amount of positive vibe and motivation. I have learnt so much from you, John. Thank you for taking your time to do these videos to educate nobodys like me. Rest In Peace John. You are so much more than bodybuilding.
how you don't have 1 million subscribers is beyond me, great tips man!! keep em coming

More videos like this, John. I would like to see for every body part, if it's possible. Your knowledge is pure gold!
