Thanks to this channel and also Rose Anvil I'm now the owner of Thursday's President boot since last month and I'm very pleased. I'm new to heritage style and this channel has helped tremendously. Thank you again for all the thorough videos!
@Stridewise absolutely well deserved. All the links that you post in the description are super helpful and also the shots of you just walking around wearing different outfits. Now for the hard part of getting 2 pairs of Grant Stone and an 875 and I'm all set lol
@@vasid2991 that's a great lineup! i love when i hear guys go 'yeah i want thursday, red wing, and grant stone and i'll be set' and like they totally will be, they're the bestsest choices
Have the black matte. They squeeked when I first got them, but a little leather cream on the tongue fixed that. Thursdays are just so easy to wear. I have more expensive, "nicer" boots, but my Thursday boots are close to my bed because I can put them on and go...and be almost as comfortable as I would be wearing sneakers.
I just got these a few weeks ago and they are nothing short of gorgeous. I have had the cacao sneakers in very similar leather for a few months and that was the jumping off point to commit to these Heros. Can't wait for them to start their patina journey and get to the point where you are now. Thanks for your tremendous efforts in making these fantastic forays into footwear.
The sneakers & the hero boots are not quite the same leather. The sneakers are Horween Waxed Flesh. The hero boots are a different waxed roughout leather. You can feel the difference on the inside of each.
I've been rocking the AR8 from Jim Green this winter and it may be my favorite boot in my collection so far. Love my Thursday boots though (I have 5 pairs).
Great video, Nick, and greetings from Tennessee! The Hero will likely be my next pair of Thursday Boots I purchase. I'm considering the Tan Matte leather, but I may wait until TB comes out with a Tobacco leather version. I can see this boot style as their fastest growing line, so hopefully TB will be coming out with more leather options soon. Full disclosure - I own five pairs of Thursday boots (2 Captains, 1 Diplomat, 1 Wing Tip, and 1 Legend), and you are correct - they are the clear industry leader in dress boot value!
I've only recently started watching your stuff and previously my only exposure to this company was Instagram ads that kinda made the company look like they sold knock-offs of red wings - it's been very reassuring to see that not only is the company trying something cool but they're going about it in a cool and interesting way
Hey man, just bought the waxed cacao Thursday hero's. Have been watching Thursday boots for several years and after seeing your vid, it was time to pull the trigger on purchase. Can't wait to get them. Thanks for your vid that was the final push.
@@Stridewise, very cool to hear from you. I love them. Your review made me pull the trigger and I couldn't be happier. I've had Redwings in the past and breaking them in was kinda brutal. The Thursday's were much easier. Thanks man, appreciate what you do 👍
Another great review. I have 3 pairs of Thursdays and love them all. One of the 3 does have tongue slip but the others do not. It is an interesting quandary. I had a cobbler tack the tongue in place on that pair. I think it was $15 or so. Worth it. I do agree..bang for the buck, the Thursdays are the best thing going out there if you are not looking for a super heavy duty work boot.
If I ever decide to get a boot from Thursday and would definitely be that boot. Also for me, I love that color. I'm a huge fan of waxed flesh and I dig the honey colored lug sole. My brother N Law bought a pair of Captains and they've been a really good boot. Especially for the price. I usually tend to by Red Wings for my lighter more streamlined boots and Nick's or White's for my heavy duty boots. That being said these Thursday Hero boots might be on the list in the near future.
Great breakdown on this boot. I already own a pair of Captains and Logger boots, and I live out in the PNW. Just want to say I get a ton of compliments on those Loggers out here from both men and women. What an awesome pair of boots. Thank you for doing this video on the Hero boot. I was a little hesitant about buying these before and now will be pulling the trigger on getting a pair.
Another quality and informative Stridewise review. Thanks for brining more attention to this brand. Honestly the first few times I saw these I was confused by the name, like maybe it was just a factory that made off brand versions of famous boots.
Thanks for great review. Just ordered pair of matte black Heroes. Will be my second pair of Thursdays. I love my Captains, but in snow i want extra grip and thicker sock :)
These look real nice. I’ve got a pair of Truman Java waxed flesh boots that literally just shipped today on the way and I’m very excited. Also have the Thursday sneaker in this leather and they are ageing wonderfully
Live in the Uk and bought a pair of presidents based on the reviews from you and Anvil Rose (you both give realistic and objective opinions) and as much as I like the looks of these I now really want some Iron Ranger Muleskinners 😅
I bought these in the fall for the same purpose. To have something more rugged that would hold up in the wet/snow better than my TerraCaptains. I love them. My only issue has been that the tongue twist on the left boot is horrendous. I wore orthotics as a child because that foot turned inward slightly. I just need to address it I bought them in place of getting Timbs
I’m not sure if Thursday is paying you, but I respect your commitment. I’ve been considering this boot and this is the only video that showed the roughout wear I was curious about. Sold!
Hey! I have the black matte Hero boots. As recommended, order 1/2 size smaller than you wear in sneakers. They fit me perfectly, and are my first pair of boots.
It might be harder to do if you live outside of the UK but I got my Doc Martens 1461s resoled a couple of months ago. It wasn't cheap, it cost £81 for original Airwair soles (a new pair of 1461s costs £140 here) but they put a free pair of socks in the box, which was nice of them, and other UK companies can put a non-Airwair sole on old Dr Martens for less.
@@Stridewise My replies keep vanishing, possibly because I included a link to the Dr Martens website, but yes, here in the UK you can book your Dr Martens in to be resoled by them. They seem to have outsourced the repairs to a company called The Boot Repair Co but it goes via Dr Martens and I think the The Boot Repair Co have exclusive distribution rights to Airwair soles.
I appreciate this review. I was beginning to get boot snob creep. Lol. I will probably edit this and call it something else. I personally stumbled upon Beckett Simonon about five years ago, and I thought they were the neatest thing since sliced bread. I was amazed at the detail and quality of every pair of boots and shoes I have bought from them. But since watching multiple videos about boots especially on RUclips I have begun looking at them with a more educated, critical eye. However, this video whether you intended it to or not, reminded me that many times something is good enough. Not everything has to be the best of the best. For anyone reading this comment, and wondering if they should purchase Beckett Simonon or Thursday boots and shoes, at least in my average guy opinion these are both brands that offer amazing boots and shoes at any price. I am fairly certain I will try some other brands I have learned about from watching yours and Rose Anvil's channels especially that offer high value per dollar spent, but I will also continue to be a loyal customer of Beckett Simonon especially, but Thursday as well. Thank you!
Compared to an old school mountaineering boot like the Galibier Super Rando, the Thursday Titan is simpler and more refined. And of course the difference between a $700 boot and a $200 one speaks for itself. The difference between the President snd the Titan is whether you want a dress boot or a more versatile all around one. Then your decision is made.
I just got these exact boots mostly for a winter choice when my nicer ones are hibernating. It's good to see how they might look in a bit. As far as if they look "better" I think that's subjective. If you like the worn look, I guess. I guess it's best to just embrace it. I only have a few miles into mine so far. I do wish they'd done speed hooks though. Sizing is usually tricky for me with my sneaker being 10E or sometimes D and boot size all over the place around there depending on the last. I did a 10 in the Hero and it's great but I think a 10 kingmaker is too long.
Yeah I mean waxed flesh is a leather for guys who like to see the leather transform, but it's in 4 other leathers if that's not your bag. Thanks for your note on the kingmaker vs hero, I actually cut like 30 seconds of comparing the two of them because I thought it was too niche but maybe I should have left it in!
@@Stridewisemaybe a good follow up video. If I get another kingmaker boot I'm gonna try 9.5 only because it feels longer than the other lasts. I have a nirvana captain in 10 and that fits good but my 10 kingmaker seems like it's maybe 3/4 inch too long in the toe.
Mine are just starting to show some good character. It takes a while when you have several boot in rotation. Love these! I really wish they would make the diplomat in this leather! , !
I like your review, pretty spot on. The boot kilt has been pretty helpful for tongue slippage for me. However it kills me that your wine rack is upside down. That’s a good way to rot your wine.
I personally love Thursday, but there's always some details that keep me from getting more of them. The lack of any gusset is the biggest one, as well as the big lugged sole. I'd like to see more leather options for the rounder toe boots as well.
I bought mine also back when they were Titans. They don't look as worn as yours but this was my 1st purchase from Thursday. & I get people asking if they're dr Martens all the time. The wax on the vamp still looks brand new after just about a year. & I mostly wear them in rain & snow.
I knew it wasn't just me who thought these were a riff on Docs! I'm a 10,000 step a day guy so I've been working real hard on killing the wax on these, I'm sure yours will get there haha
@@StridewiseMy waxed flesh sneakers are wearing differently. I have noticed the hero boots are not made of Horween leather. I'm guessing it's La Farc's version of waxed flesh.
@@MahBok78 yes, good catch! the logger and i think vanguard have the horween waxed flesh, but this is from someone else. Thursday doesn't only use lefarc and it could be from somewhere else, I couldn't find out
@@Stridewise I noticed they don't say on their website. They do note in design specs which boots they use Horween leather for. & not any of the others. I'm one of those nerds that reads all of those things before making a purchase.
I have also noticed my waxed flesh sneakers seem to have aged faster. I've had those just almost as long as my hero boots & they have a more worn look that's the reason people like waxed flesh.
I bought a pair of Thursday's Made in USA Vanguards for work and after 100+ miles of walking in them, I have decided to order Nick's Rangers. I can't get more than 6 hours of wearing the Thursdays before my feet start to ache. The paper insole and that massive steel shank might have something to do with it. Whatever the case might be, they aren't as good as I had hoped.
Man i swore not to buy any more boots for awhile. I’m waiting on a pair of white’s MP Sherman’s to come in and that’s it for me…..but then you show me these sexy boots. My wife is gonna kill me but I must have them!!
Captains were my starter boot, Iron Rangers were my second pair. I never quite adapted to the Holly-Hobby aesthetic of the Captain. I wear them from time to time, and they are comfortable (more than the Rangers, TBH), but not a fave. I like these Heros a lot more. I would just rather they not be roughout. Oh well, I'm bound to never be satisfied, I guess. Thanks.
I was intrigued by the waxed flesh leather about a year ago, and since I usually try to buy USA made when I can, and since I wasn't sure I'd really like the waxed flesh look, I bought a pair of Thursday Vanguards in Cacao for I think around $265.00 USD. Don't quote me on that but it was close. I wasn't overly impressed with the workmanship that went into the build of the boots. However, I live in Western WA State, it rains here a lot of the time and I found myself wearing these boots often both last winter and this because A: I wasn't thrilled with the quality of the boot, and B: Hence I didn't care about them at all. The truth is though, the leather is very weather resistant and holds up very well and I will reach for those boots often. I've logged many miles in these boots. And though I still would not say I'm thrilled with the build quality, hey, I've worn them a lot, they still look good, and they were certainly worth the money. You put forth an honest review which I totally agree with. Good on you.
This is a cool boot. This is the only affordable option for a waxed flesh leather. Would be nice if they made a chelsea with this leather. Looking for a good Chelsea, thats not in the $500+ range. I actually also own the Timberland titan, good light weight safety shoe for any one who needs light weight work boots.
Me personally I prefer non gusset tongues for outdoor boots never had issues with dirt getting in however they're not good for water but who walks in deep water with regular boots anyway?
I have a pair of Hero and while I love the look of them, I find them less comfortable than other boots I have owned. If I have to do lots of walking or will be on my feet all day, I am reluctant to wear them because I know my feet will be feeling it. I am tempted to try the Captain but I'm not confident they will be better.
Actually I think the Stomper appears more Dr Marten'sy than the hero. (But I'm only judging from the photos now) The "Old English" colored one looks like the "Gaucho Crazy Horse" Solovair to me.
i have the cacao sneakers and they're great. these do not come in wide sizes like some of the other thursday boots. my first pair of boots is going to be grant stone...waxy commander diesel. worth the price.
I purchased these boots after watching this video but promptly returned them. They look great but lack volume so you really can't wear thick socks with them, at least I could not. I ordered 1/2 size below my normal shoe size and the length was fine but as I said there just wasn't a lot of volume in the boot. I'm a regular D width.
Great review, I have been eyeing this boot for a while now. Interesting perspective on the waxed flesh patina. I feel like the guys who have fully skuffed up boots must be intentionally speeding up the process?
Hey Nick, what's the toe-box height on these like? Some of the Thursday website photos make it look like it has a bit of a bump toe, but others make it look pretty typical of the Thursday low-profile toe box? I've had 2x pairs of the Captain and 1x Vanguard, and it made me realize that I must walk with slightly up-turned toes, 'cos I much prefer the feel my Iron Rangers' taller toe-box. So I guess the clearest way to phrase my question is: if I find the Captain's toe-box too low for my liking, will I have the same issue with the Hero? I'm in New Zealand, so trying out and returning isn't a viable option.
you know i never liked them just for aesthetics, but lately i've been thinking that "chelsea" side zip boots must fit more securely than elastic sided chelseas and i've been thinking of trying some. probably won't get lace up ones though
HI there just wondering if you are doing a review on Thursday challenger boots. I see they are upping the quality to bring people PNW style boots to people who just quiet convinced spending us $600. Or for us Australian's $900 / 1000. As you know redwing is in Melbourne not convenient and not very appealing when you have reviewed Nick's or White's boots. I enjoy your channel very informative. Cheers Nick from Perth WA
Hey there! I just got my black matte hero boots. They’re my first pair of boots. Any suggestions on how to style them? I’m a teenager, so im trying something new out. Thanks!
yeah that'd be neat. you can get the vanguard and logger in a similar one from horween. the sneakers come in this too. i hear they're doing a proper PNW boot this year that will have it i imagine
Honestly the non gusseted tongue is a no go for me sadly. I do actuality like this boot a lot. Will talk with my cobbler if they will be willing to do a bit of work
Normally, if a boot is available in only a whole size, you wear that size. On a European last for example, I always wear a 42, the UK size 8 and the American size 9. If there are half sizes offered, I pick 8.5, the European 41 1/2 and the UK 7.5. They’re an exact fit.
So I purchased 8 Thursday Boots in a 2 month period. I also purchased the same amount of Doc Martens to put them through the paces in a head to head battle of day to day wearing. I think people will actually be pretty shocked by the result. No paid sponsor just real life unbiased opinion.
i think nubuck is very cool and it's unusual for thursday, but then again i have a billion normal leather boots so my preferences/fatigue levels are skewed haha
Hey Nick, how hard is this version of the Storm King? Is it at all similar in feel and squish to the Vibram Honey Lug sole? Have no idea the hardness of the traditional Storm King. Love the sole on my White’s Fultons though. Is this close?
I have heard someone say that the storm king is a bit harder than the Vibram honey lug sole. I wouldn't know 1st hand because I have only experienced the storm king & not the vibram.
Would you recommend these over the vanguard? I’m looking into buying my first pair of Thursday boots soon and I really like the looks of the Hero in Waxed cacao the vanguard in the same leather or the Stomper in black Cherry
It really depends on what look you want hey, they're different boots. Vanguard is slimmer/more fashionable, Hero is more casual and roomy. Note that the Vanguard's leather is from Horween while these aren't
Anyone have trouble with the top part of their boots tearing away from the sole? Looking for a boot that is robust in that area, as I have had several high-top boots (like those in the video) and they separate from the sole along the stitching. Thanks for the input!
They could sell it for $15 more but boot construction is a compromise between features and affordability. Corners have to be cut somewhere to keep to a certain price point.
I guess I'm silly because I WANT mine to keep the waxy coat for as long as possible because I like the look better. But if they're made for rain but then it comes off in the rain, I guess I shouldn't WEAR them in the rain?
no you wear them in the rain and to be honest the water resistance won't really dip if the wax wears off, but you can always put on more wax if you want it's not expensive: stridewise.com/how-to-wax-suede/
I was looking forward to buying these boots in a wide last which was supposed to be released in Dec. 2023. I don't know why the challenger wide was never released. @7:43
People complain about having to pay more and they leave out a feature so they pay less. Not everyone is happy with such a decision. A $200 boot is never going to be at the level of a $700 boot. Lowering one’s expectation in keeping with what you expect to pay for it.
not a fan of Thursday, they look cheap and feel cheap, one pair of captain and I am done with their boots, there are too many non- American made boots better and cheaper than Thursday.

They also make the Vanguard in waxed flesh.
I wonder how much is the rating of both boots for winter? Will the boots keep you warm to -30 degrees celsius? :)
The tounge not being gusseted instantly kills any chance of these being an outdoors boot for me. They're casual boots
Really love most things about Thursday boots, but I really wish they would start doing gusseted tongues.
Nice, I've been wondering what these look like aged and worn in. Still breaking mine in
Dude you were in MA??? Shoot I would've loved to meet you. Love your content, take care brother
I love the waxed flesh! The patina on them is incredible.
Actually I think the Stomper appears more Dr Marten'sy than the hero. (But I'm only judging from the photos now) The "Old English" colored one looks like the "Gaucho Crazy Horse" Solovair to me.
*_it is my honorto meet you❤🥰_*
i have the cacao sneakers and they're great. these do not come in wide sizes like some of the other thursday boots. my first pair of boots is going to be grant stone...waxy commander diesel. worth the price.
an excellent boot!
If you plan to wear thick socks like you would in a hiking boot, size up. You can always do an exchange.
Would love for you to review Beckett Simonon's new Williamson boot. They currently have a promotion for $179.
I keep wavering on which model/color to get. This one is up there.
Do you want a dressier boot or a more casual boot? Once you know, you get the one that best suits your lifestyle and the activities you do.
Would like to hear thoughts on the Hero vs the Captain StormKing on just weather resistance
Great review, I have been eyeing this boot for a while now. Interesting perspective on the waxed flesh patina. I feel like the guys who have fully skuffed up boots must be intentionally speeding up the process?
D*mn you Nick! I know what my next boot purchase is gonna be, I guess! 😂
How does sizing compare to Viberg service boots or Whites MPs? I’m an 8.5 E in both and am thinking 9.5 D would be the move in the Hero?
Hey I just got the thursday stompers in black. What's your opinion on boots with side zippers. I really like them so far.
you know i never liked them just for aesthetics, but lately i've been thinking that "chelsea" side zip boots must fit more securely than elastic sided chelseas and i've been thinking of trying some. probably won't get lace up ones though
for $200 there is no competition
Looks like another winner from Thursday boots. I might have to get these as well. Thank you Nick for turning me on to Thursday. Thanks for the review.
2 day im wearing therm and man i love therm the hero boot are great ordering and other pair for winter
Hey there! I just got my black matte hero boots. They’re my first pair of boots. Any suggestions on how to style them? I’m a teenager, so im trying something new out. Thanks!
All winter? It's not even February yet, haha. we got 2 months left
I sure wish they offered more boots in this leather. Such as the $200 captain.
yeah that'd be neat. you can get the vanguard and logger in a similar one from horween. the sneakers come in this too. i hear they're doing a proper PNW boot this year that will have it i imagine
"what many are calling, the adult doc martin"
🦉?
Also, is that really a compliment?
Honestly the non gusseted tongue is a no go for me sadly. I do actuality like this boot a lot. Will talk with my cobbler if they will be willing to do a bit of work
Your cobbler can do an alteration. If you’ve a boot you like, customising it isn’t a big deal.
Finally, a Thursday boot I like. I'm a clunky boot guy, so these are my style.
Yeah it's a really significant boot in their lineup, it's like the king of crossover
"Half a size down from sneaker size." Which sneaker? By now, you should know that Brannock is the only semi-objective measure we have.
Awesome review
Thanks! I feel like I didn't make the title or thumbnail clicky enough for a video I spent a year making haha
I’ve been eyeing these boots. Other Thursdays don’t fit what I wear. I just don’t know if I want Arizona adobe or tan nubuck.
i think nubuck is very cool and it's unusual for thursday, but then again i have a billion normal leather boots so my preferences/fatigue levels are skewed haha
I need a friday boot.
when something sounds clever but just doesn't make sense
I bought these in the same size as my President and Captain (half size down from Brannock) and they feel too tight. Bummer!
In your case, you need to size up. Its a pain to do an exchange but if its too small, that’s the only solution.
A STORM WELT WITH NO TONGUE GUSSET😢
Ack! If only it had gusseted tongue it would've been a perfect boot for casual wear
You can have a cobbler sew one on. Its not a deal breaker.
@@Stridewise thanks probably go with the hero instead of vanguard not a fan of slimmer boots was hard to tell much from website photos
Anyone have trouble with the top part of their boots tearing away from the sole? Looking for a boot that is robust in that area, as I have had several high-top boots (like those in the video) and they separate from the sole along the stitching. Thanks for the input!
The problem with Thursday is that Grant Stone exists
For double the price...
the grown up doc marten is the solivar...
that's true but these can be resoled! but less soft underfoot than solovair. depends what you're after i guess
Thursday not gusseting their tongue's is a big thing for me. Why make an 'all-weather' 'heavy duty' boot without any tongue gusset? It makes no sense.
To keep it under $199!
Talk about the sizing, tho: How they don't fit the same as Captain OR President models.......... Ugh
I like the tan color outsole here.
You went smaller? I had to go UP two sizes!!!
I only found half size down true with Captain so far. All the rest have needed to be bigger by at least one size.
no you wear them in the rain and to be honest the water resistance won't really dip if the wax wears off, but you can always put on more wax if you want it's not expensive: stridewise.com/how-to-wax-suede/
I love waxed flesh but these boots never really moved the needle for me but this review may have changed that. Damn you Nick, good review I guess…
🔥🔥🔥
This dude probably eats salsa made in New York City.
Thursday came along 10 years ago......... And began paying off online influencers to make videos like this.
i wish!
I was looking forward to buying these boots in a wide last which was supposed to be released in Dec. 2023. I don't know why the challenger wide was never released. @7:43
i know they said dec or jan to me, i feel like it'll be out this winter
Dang, I gotta get these in that waxed flesh. Some day....
Who rolls their cuffs in this day and age? It's not 1955 fonzi

How idiotic to not have a gusseted tongue on the Hero.
People complain about having to pay more and they leave out a feature so they pay less. Not everyone is happy with such a decision. A $200 boot is never going to be at the level of a $700 boot. Lowering one’s expectation in keeping with what you expect to pay for it.
Nice boot. The great majority of our Nation’s heroes are resting in our national military cemeteries. Most wore combat boots
Huh?
Thursday boots are crap. Much rather spend another $100-$150 or so and get something like a grant stone or parkhurst.
also good brands but yeah, a different price bracket. plus they don't have combat-ish boots like these
Not everyone wants to or can afford to spend more on a premium brand, The market offers choices.
Friends don’t let friends waste money on Thursday. Save and get some Truman’s or some other decent boots.
not a fan of Thursday, they look cheap and feel cheap, one pair of captain and I am done with their boots, there are too many non- American made boots better and cheaper than Thursday.
That's OK, which boots do you like that are cheaper and better?
I’m not surprised certain Lowa models aren’t made in Germany but are made instead in Slovakia. We live a global brand age now.
