I have had these boots for a year, they’re holding up very well. I did have the front of the sole start to split, so I reached out to Thursday and they sent me a pair of Presidents for free. To repair it, I cut up a business card, dipped it in loctite and was able to pack it in. I haven’t had any issues further. Most likely going to get the HERO boot in that sick mustang colorway!
I suspect the Redwing Iron ranger would win this mid range competition. At $350 they come in under the $400 price ranger you are targeting. The only other real competition I can think of would be the Whites Millwood or the Whites Chore Boot.
I have the French Roast Vanguard, which is Thursday's other American made boot. They look great and I love the boots. I think they will age really well. They can dress up but they also really have a quality and weight to them that makes them really feel like good boots. I think the Horween leather options for the Logger and Vanguard make them stand out from the Captain. And they come with fully leather laces and the waxed ones also. So you can use either.
@@WaxySmooth I've only had them about 10 months now. I wore them at least a couple times a week during the colder months and maybe once every couple weeks over the summer. Insole ins't broken down at all really and they are comfortable for as long as I've worn them (probably a few hours at a time max). Though my feet generally are comfortable in most shoes.
I love that style of leather on the Thursday Logger. Its beautiful yet rugged as hell and thick. Now if only the cap toe was real so I could use it when I'm working down low or on my motorcycle. The insole not being removable sucks but if its like the Mexico version at all it should be comfortable right out of the box. I definitely like it more than the 1000 mile boot.
Just by chance, I bought a pair of Thursday Captains about five years ago, before anyone was talking about the brand. They have a fake toe cap, but honestly, the boots have held up extremely well. You can buy a pair of these and work and hike and do whatever the hell you want, and they'll last for many years. Don't read the nonsense online saying that you need crazy thick boots just to do some work in. The stitching will hold up and you'll be fine.
I've owned these loggers for over a year and I like them a lot. My only complaints are with the identity confused design - like the fact that they have the dress style heel top lift, it is an 8 inch boot with no speed hooks, and as you can see at 8:27 they have no tongue gusset at all, so even though they have good waterproof materials and construction, if any water splashes on the laces it goes right into the boot. At least the heel and hooks can be fixed by a cobbler, not sure about the gusset though. Overall they are great materials and build quality, but I would change those few things if I had my way. The Whites Sawyer probably would have been better for what I wanted, for ~$100 more.
Get a bi-metal blade with around 14 tpi for your new bandsaw blade & get it in as wide of a blade that your saw is designed to use. That should quickly & easily cut through the boots & shoes you use it for while being able to safely handle cutting through the steel shanks.
I like the look and value of Thursdays. I've owned two pairs, but I ended up selling both because they are just super narrow and I never could get them stretched enough to be comfortable. I even contacted them about sizing before ordering and just never could get them comfortable. It was a shame.
I had the same problem. The leather in the ball of my foot would stretch out perfectly but I needed to add kilties in order for my ankle to lock in comfortably.
I ended up going with their wide versions of the boots and went full size down and are pretty happy with it so far (almost wore it for a month now)... you may want to try them again :)
@@ShacklefordR unfortunately, the wide seem to be limited to a few boots, and not the models I had. But I've since moved to boots without any foams in them like Red Wing and White's. I have a couple of Wolverines that I'm waiting for the sole to wear out on so I can rebuild them. They just don't have enough between your foot and the ground for me. I'd love them with an all leather construction like White's. And I'm interested in trying a pair of Trumans because they have an amazing selection of leathers.
@@MadelnMachines I don't know. I haven't been measured on a brannock device for years. I did the foot tracing and measuring for my White's MPs, and when I ordered my Perrys they had that. They put me in D width. I went to the store and got measured on Red Wing's automated system and also got placed in a D. My Wolverine 1000 miles are also a D. I contacted Thursday to make sure I was ordering the correct size, they asked about my other boots, I gave them the sizes of those, and then ordered based on their recommendations. The Thursdays were much narrower than anything else I own, even my Allen Edmonds Higgins Mills, which are also a bit narrower than the Red Wings, etc. I have since decided that, though Thursdays are a great value, I would rather have more expensive boots without all of the foam comfort materials inside that will eventually wear out.
I just got my pair of loggers after watching this video. TheLogger is the best boot that tbc sells. The leather is super thick and so is the outsole. The outsole is like 1/2” of vibram so it’s super padded when walking around the forefoot. I love any and all boots with a toe cap and out of all my Thursday boots these are my favorite for the simple reason of the leather, the Cuban heel stack, and the thick outsole. TBC definitely gives you the best materials your money can buy without it costing an arm and a leg. They are sexy, comfy, and nice Cuban heel. I was trying to compare the 1k mile boots vs the Loggers and I picked the Loggers because of the look, the leather, the heel stack and the fact it does have a shank whereas the 1k miles don’t have a shank. The 1k miles are well over $100 more and the quality is NOT there. I like the 1k mile boots too but they don’t have any with a toe cap in stock with a heel like the Logger. I have found that plain toed boots don’t break in as well and doesn’t look as good as cap toe boots worn in. I think the cap toe hides a lot of the creases compared to the plain toed boots. Just mo.
I bought the Wingtip and the Captain a year ago and i must say, that these boots are the best that i have worn till this day. Great material for this price and the best comfort that i ever had. Looking for a next pair of the brand.
I have both versions of the Thursdays Captain - the regular (made in Mexico) and the vanguard (made in USA) and I can fully agree. The few extra bucks for the vanguards is well spent money. The leather of the regular version is by no means a bad leather, but it's a bit thinner and tanned in another way. Also the soles on the cheaper ones had to be repaired three times already, since they use softer rubber that wears off faster and tends to detach from the tip of the toes over time. The made in Mexico boots are still in very good condition and will last me a few more years, but if you compare the money spent on those repairs then you'd be better off on just buying the vanguards. Both great boots for the price tho.
I like the thursdays but I wish they would have used a vibram top lift and gusseted the tough a little. Also I want to see the JK 300 boots on this list
Great vid Weston. I’ve owned a pair of these Thursday loggers since early 2020 and worn them ~4 times a week since. I know a lot of people hate that stacked heel look but I love these boots, especially how that waxed cacao leather wears in. My main 3 complaints are the fake toe cap, thin top lift and un-gussetted tongue (tongue slid to the side while wearing). After 2.5 years I just replaced the top lift with a thicker one, and fixed the tongue in place with a small rivet. They’re also my most complimented boots. Would recommend for casual wear.
@@porkchopproductions0314 It’s just something I’ve seen a lot in reviews of that boot. I guess some people don’t like the proportion of leather to small rubber cap.
Thursday has been my favorite leisure boot company. First pair of boots I was highly impressed at the price point. I may have to check out these logger style.
The missing speed hooks is a no go for me. Thursdays are nice starter boots but I wore through the underfoot materials pretty quick and smell was an issue. But it gets you eased into breaking in boots and for the price they are super solid
You can add speed hooks pretty easily with a tool and a couple of riveted hooks. I saw a kit on Amazon for $10. But it'd be nice if the retailer could simply add them if you asked.
@@eliasross4576 I had no idea about this. One of the things that made me regret buying my Thursday Logger boots was the fact that it's such a PITA to get them on and off. Without the speedhooks it's a five minute process either way, but replacing 3-4 rows of eyelets would definitely speed things up.
I got the thursday captain based on that tear down, and was going to get a second pair in another leather, but after seeing this I had to order a pair of these loggers. Really impressed with the leathers they use
@@oxfordbambooshootify That used to be how I managed way back when, but the older o get, the less likely I can squeeze into something less than a 3 or 2E unfortunately.
@@oxfordbambooshootify If you're maybe just on the verge of being an E width, than sure you can probably get away with going up half a size in standard D width. But I'm telling you, no amount of breaking in or slight stretching of materials will make an overly-tight boot fit properly. I'll pass on the foot pain.
After wearing them for 2 days the Logger is super comfortable and it doesn’t crease as bad as the Mexican made boot like the captains. I bought some Nick’s leather laces and it matches perfectly. I can’t wait until I can get the nap to show through. It’s definitely the best Thursday boots ever made. Definitely better than the 1000 mile boots or with any other boot under $400.
Saw Thursday had their other mitusa boot, the Vanguard, in their warehouse deals so I looked up if you had a video on their mitusa boots and after watching this I immediately went and ordered them. They are brown roughout and I got them for an absolute steal at $180.
Really like the upper leather. Nice look and very very durable. Based on past purchases, Thursdays product quality varies. Some meh, some really good. Shop discriminately. Be prepared to return some items if unsuitable.
I was thinking, Wow! Cut in half expert was struggling to cut this boot without taking the laces off, this must be one hell of a boot. And then came the disclaimer about the band saw 👏
Love this series! Can you do a review of Thursday Vanguard French Roast? They cost $265 and are Horween Chromexcel. It would be interesting to see how they stack up to The 1000 Miles and The Logger.
Was interested in watching this as I bought a pair of these from Thursday a few years ago. This is my favorite boot for casual wear, glad to see it was money well spent! Very comfortable boot. I was going to say you should do Parkhurst next but I see they’re not producing in the US anymore.
I have these same boots in the Vanguard. The upper is just a bit shorter, but not a short as a Chukka. I absolutely LOVE them. I own them and a pair of Presidents. The raised heel is a BIT different, but the construction of the boot is insanely good. I love boots, so I was looking at some others, SPECIFICALLY the 1000 Mile Boot. I am glad I came across your last video, because I don't need to spend money. I already have the superior boot and am happy with it! Also for me, they fit true to size. I wear an 8.5 in shoes and these!
Could you try puncturing the same hide of leather from both sides? I suspect having to push through the intertwined fibres of the flesh out side makes it tougher to get to/break through through the grain side, while on the other the hand if you slice through the grain side, that fibre structure falls apart, possibly explaining why rough out would have a greater puncture resistance
I like my Vanguards even if they are a half size too small. That combined with them being one of the hardest soled boots I have, I honestly don't wear em much anymore. The Diplomat however, is still a solid buy.
I thought I was crazy for experiencing these same thing. I wonder if I'll ever truly break them in. Is there a drastic difference between half sizes? Mine fit great save for the heel slippage. I wonder if I get half a size smaller the issue good away but I don't want my tires squished. What do you think?
I like it when you mention the fit and feel, be cool if you could mention those in the next ones. Even if its just like a half hours wear to get a feel for the toe box and flex etc.
Thank you for the visual representation of the ranking. My favorite part of your older series videos was the recap video at the end to officially close the series and group all the good and bad in one spot for easy choice making in a boot purchase. (Maybe the group in depth recap could be on Rose Anvil 2 channel) It was because of all your videos that I made the best footwear choice of my life so far, in purchasing a pair of nicks builder pro about 5 months ago. Keep up the content, really enjoy these boot series.
You need to add Taylor Stitch Moto boots to this list. They are insanely comfortable. I walked 10 miles in these the other day and I was the only person not complaining about my feet. Also please review Danner Light’s. These are my favorite boots of all time. Unbelievable quality.
I agree with most of what you said on the comparison of the 1000 mile, however as for myself I enjoy the plain leather sole of the 1000 mile. Not that many places have that.
You can always test if its the orientation of the leather by doing another puncture test from the other side. As if it's puncturing from "inside" the shoe.
Corcoran jump boots and Rocky S2Vs would be great. Personally worn both boots and both have made in the USA labels. Also the (now) old-school US military boot that was issued from the 80s through the early 00s.
I looked and looked for 100-300 logger, all were junk in a year, sometimes a couple of weeks until something failed. Bought rothco full leather jungle boots for $63. No problems.
One you could add to this series, the Whites Hathorn Tracker. On their site it’s $380 or $390, but can be purchased through C-A-L Ranch for under $300(some sizes excluded)
Obviously not for this series because they are made overseas, but I'd love to see you review the Golden Fox Boondockers. I've seen a lot of boot guys giving them solid reviews and I'd love to see how they compare to some other boots in the $100 to $200 price range.
I have a pair that that are still, to this day, the most comfortable pair of boots I've owned. Two years of almost daily use and they're holding up great, even keeping my feet dry when more expensive boots didn't. The only bad thing about them is that the sole has little traction when it's wet and that they're made in China. I'm always a little disheartened that a "cheap" pair of boots like those always gets overlooked and called inferior when it has many qualities more expensive options do, just with lesser but still usable materials.
The long stitches on the welt make it look a mall boot. Compare stitches per inch to the Wolverine. Then do Alden. There’s more to a boot than materials.
I think I have found my next pair of boots, the only minor thing I dont care for is the finishing of the heel stack, I would have liked it more if a finer grit was used to finish.
Since I subscribed to this channel a couple of weeks ago, I've learned an entire new lexicon. I also have started using the word "Horween" as a pejorative. For example "OMG, you are SUCH a horween". While *I* (as a newly savy viewer of this channel) now realize that Horween leather is a desirable thing, the word, nevertheless, has that certain lusty audacity that makes it work so well as a "cooler-than-your-target" putdown word. It's like the Taji'n of diss-words; unfamiliar, and yet... unmistakable in its zestiness.
This would be tough, as you can find Iron Rangers for $300 new if you look around. If you like the slimmer more classy look of the Thursday, this is a winner. Someday I will buy a pair of Thursday boots. Not sure if I'll go with the USA made or not, but I'd prefer it.
so awesome when these "value brands" brands like Thursday are willing to send boots to someone who is LITERALLY going to cut them apart and look at how they're made. Says a lot about how they feel about their product
Wolverine clicks the thinner cheaper parts of the hide. Which is why their leather wrinkles so bad when compared to other chromexcel leather, such as Viberg. I'd love to see Oak Street Boots cut! They also use chromexcel.

JK 300s?
I have the French Roast Vanguard, which is Thursday's other American made boot. They look great and I love the boots. I think they will age really well. They can dress up but they also really have a quality and weight to them that makes them really feel like good boots. I think the Horween leather options for the Logger and Vanguard make them stand out from the Captain. And they come with fully leather laces and the waxed ones also. So you can use either.
Hi, how long have you had them and how often? I’m just curious how the proron insole is over time
@@WaxySmooth I've only had them about 10 months now.
Good to know!
What brannock foot width are you?
I was waiting this video for over a year. Thanks
Great video, and just for the record I trust you’ll put out honest content so please keep taking sponsorships that you feel good about like this one!
The Thursday-brand soles are garbage. I won’t buy another Thursday unless it has Vibram or a real Danite sole
For the price, I've no complaints. Comfy and stylish, I don't use them for rough work, got my Whites BHs for that.
I like the thursdays but I wish they would have used a vibram top lift and gusseted the tough a little. Also I want to see the JK 300 boots on this list
Might not fit perfectly but my favorite pair of boots is Truman boots. They are an absolute tank and the 20 last feels made for my foot.
They have great leather options too!
What's the complaints with the stacked heel look?
@@porkchopproductions0314 It’s just something I’ve seen a lot in reviews of that boot. I guess some people don’t like the proportion of leather to small rubber cap.
Thursday has been my favorite leisure boot company. First pair of boots I was highly impressed at the price point. I may have to check out these logger style.
I'd love to see a video on $400 or less steel toe/composite toe work boots.
This guy is a hell of a sells man, Thursday better be paying him good
@@oscarbear7498 Thursday should focus on making their made in usa stuff as good as their made in Mexico stuff imo, the loggers had numerous QC issues
Another awesome boot with no wide sizing. I've been hoping to get a pair of these for years.
Leather expands over time so I'm not surprised why there aren't many wide size options
@@oxfordbambooshootify That used to be how I managed way back when, but the older o get, the less likely I can squeeze into something less than a 3 or 2E unfortunately.
I'm a wide foot too. These boots would look better with a wide silhouette imo
@@TwistyThreeFifty I agree. That rugged logger look is really great.
Another great video Weston, I love my Thursday Vanguard Made in the USA with the Horween Blue Indigo leather boot.
Are you saying different models, quality control between any two pairs, something else?
Thursdays just the reasonably priced gift that keeps on giving
I'm still in the 200 and under price range but if I can swing it I'll definitely take a good look at the American Thursdays. Good video.
I was thinking, Wow! Cut in half expert was struggling to cut this boot without taking the laces off, this must be one hell of a boot. And then came the disclaimer about the band saw 👏
Hey weston! It'd be interesting to see what's inside "hunting" and winterized leather boots, like the irish setters by example!
Love this series! Can you do a review of Thursday Vanguard French Roast? They cost $265 and are Horween Chromexcel. It would be interesting to see how they stack up to The 1000 Miles and The Logger.
Huge fan of the MITUSA. As a broke forester this is very helpful.
Love this new MITUSA list. Keep up the great work, Rose Anvil!!!
All your shows are great. Make a series, if you can, about one of a kind boots made by traditional show makers, not companies.
For this series please include Allen Edmonds Higgins Mill Chromexcel 🤙they are always on sale under 400
LOVE that you’re doing the snake bite test on the shafts!!!!!
Thursday makes a extremely good looking boot, I love their Chelsea boots
I hit my vanguards with Saphir renoveteur when i got them and they are amazing boots. Very comfortable
Ive had these for a month now and i love them. Great boot.
I'm excited to see the Origin boot analysis.
I’d love to see you do a tear down of Thursday’s women’s boots. Are they as good as their men’s?
Could you try puncturing the same hide of leather from both sides? I suspect having to push through the intertwined fibres of the flesh out side makes it tougher to get to/break through through the grain side, while on the other the hand if you slice through the grain side, that fibre structure falls apart, possibly explaining why rough out would have a greater puncture resistance
I agree and think I would explain it as the flesh protecting the strong fibres from the spike. Essentially "blunting the blow".
I thought I was two days late for a new segment lol thanks for another well produced, informative and entertaining video.
(Maybe the group in depth recap could be on Rose Anvil 2 channel)
It was because of all your videos that I made the best footwear choice of my life so far, in purchasing a pair of nicks builder pro about 5 months ago.
Keep up the content, really enjoy these boot series.
Good boots. Thank-you for saving the laces too. Interesting series.
Dude another video same week? What a treat.
Love my Thursday sneakers. The company definitely seems quality. But my Whites are my go to boots. Wouldn’t mind a nicer dress up style from Thursday
You need to add Taylor Stitch Moto boots to this list. They are insanely comfortable. I walked 10 miles in these the other day and I was the only person not complaining about my feet.
Also please review Danner Light’s. These are my favorite boots of all time. Unbelievable quality.
Been waiting for this series for awhile!
Love these series you do, can’t wait for moctober! Got my first pair of boots because of that series last year.
I agree with most of what you said on the comparison of the 1000 mile, however as for myself I enjoy the plain leather sole of the 1000 mile. Not that many places have that.
Thursday boots are a great priced boot I'm still wearing my Thursday over two years now still in great shape 👍👍
How is the sizing in Thursdays against your everyday sneaker/shoe size??
@@drluisrosalesleon5015 for me and have wide feet so same size as regular shoes 13👍
@@TheSara200424 thanks!! 😃👍
I got excited when I saw the acronym… I thought you might be taking to my alma mater.
You can always test if its the orientation of the leather by doing another puncture test from the other side. As if it's puncturing from "inside" the shoe.
Schott NYC 6" Service Boot would be a great addition to the series
Corcoran jump boots and Rocky S2Vs would be great. Personally worn both boots and both have made in the USA labels. Also the (now) old-school US military boot that was issued from the 80s through the early 00s.
Maybe throw some work boots in the mix. Something like a red wing 3504 is USA made and in the price range. Great work as usual man.
I would love to see the Redwing Blacksmith cut apart. Mitusa is a really catchy name, good choice.
Love the no crap disappointments you let out in this one, like the split pig skin luchesse boots. Lol. Excited for this series dude. Keep em coming.
Do a teardown of Origin of Maine Built Boot!
Thanks so much for the review🙌
I have a pair of 8” boots made by Grundman Shoes in Vincennes, IN. Worn once about 5 years ago…they’re yours if you want them for the MITUSA series.
They do have a made in USA line now, it should be here!
I guess it's just the mock toe not the boondockers :P
The long stitches on the welt make it look a mall boot. Compare stitches per inch to the Wolverine. Then do Alden. There’s more to a boot than materials.
I think I have found my next pair of boots, the only minor thing I dont care for is the finishing of the heel stack, I would have liked it more if a finer grit was used to finish.
Just got my Vanguard color # 8 today! Really excited
The White’s Line Scouts would be amazing to see in this series. At 370$ they’re much cheaper than other White’s fire boots.
Also love the top gear metal board with magnets haha
This would be tough, as you can find Iron Rangers for $300 new if you look around. If you like the slimmer more classy look of the Thursday, this is a winner.
Someday I will buy a pair of Thursday boots. Not sure if I'll go with the USA made or not, but I'd prefer it.
Another great video Weston. Bring on the rest!
Nice boot. Think i will look for them. Thanks for the review. Great content.
I've been waiting for this! Thanks Weston.
so awesome when these "value brands" brands like Thursday are willing to send boots to someone who is LITERALLY going to cut them apart and look at how they're made. Says a lot about how they feel about their product
Wolverine clicks the thinner cheaper parts of the hide. Which is why their leather wrinkles so bad when compared to other chromexcel leather, such as Viberg. I'd love to see Oak Street Boots cut! They also use chromexcel.
