Because they told you this convoluted story about some boots being not up to par and huge numbers being rejected? Seems extremely shady to me, especially since they KNEW they were sending a pair out to a RUclips influencer who pushes a lot of weight around with almost a million subscribers. Thursday has their issues but if you are looking at other $150-200 boots they are definitely on top. This is even the case with the older version that was sent accidentally. I’d take Thursday any day over timberland or docs in terms of quality. There are a few very small brands (like Blkbrd) that I would consider to be superior though.
I find it hard to justify Thursdays when you have Red Wing for not too much more. Let’s also not forget Grant Stone B Grades for $180-250 that are a fantastic bargain. Grant stone boots are leagues above Thursday. Thursdays leather just doesn’t feel as premium as the other brands I mentioned. I have Terracotta captains and MitUSA Waxed Cacao loggers that I’m basing this off of. They also have issues with their rubber soles deteriorating quickly. That leads to the philosophical question of whether it’s worth spending $120-$150 for a resole on a pair of $200 boots that you’ve had for a year.
Lastly, here’s my obligatory opinion that you should stop doing sponsored videos about products that said sponsors make. You might try to make it sound unbiased, but when they’re providing points for you to talk about and sending you a specific pair to review (versus if you’d ordered anonymously), this video can be described as sketchy at best. The vast majority of us will receive imperfect boots or boots with cut corners because we aren’t influencers who are reviewing the product. Cheers.
It was the same with a video you did recently of Grant Stone (?) that was sponsored by GS. I love the boots and agreed with most of your points, but even then it felt so scripted and it seemed like you had some kind of obligation to give them a gleaming review.

I have never owned a pair and probably never will. Two different people at work tried them out. The first coworker’s soles separated in less than 6 weeks, totally unacceptable, they did send him a replacement pair that seems to be holding up well. The second coworker ordered a pair of boots and a belt. The boots had a speed lace rivet pop out in the first week. The belt appears to have been two pieces of leather and they split down the middle within the first month as well. Based on these examples I’ll stick to my Iron Rangers and 1000 mile’s, they may cost a bit more, but at least they will hold up…. Thursday’s seem to be a crap shoot, some are decent, others are just junk like they are coming from two drastically different factories….
It also begs the question: what did Thursday’s management team expect when they went to Mexico for production and found cut rate factories willing to manufacture “250,000 worth of boots for a 40,000 deposit”? It’s not like overhead gets magically paid and labor works for free, the factory cut corners and skimped on production costs where they thought no one would notice. Another point here is that the whole point of QC is to prevent “escapes” in the production process, not allowing substandard products to even see the light of day, let alone into a reviewer’s hands. I’d say their QC department is focused on reactive approaches after the substandard products have made it to the customer rather than proactively policing. For the record I’ve been in statistical process control and QC for 10 years, this would have gotten me fired…..

In 1 year I got 3 different pairs. The Stompers, Presidents, and Hightop sneakers. Although I love them each of them did some with small different problems. The Stompers have a smooth heel counter so quite a bit of heel slip. The President had the tongue slide way off to the side and I had to get slits made to hold them in place. The Hightop also had the tongue slide all the way to the side even though it already had lace loops to hold them in place. On Reddit, quality control also seems to be an issue as many customers report other similar slight issues such as a toecap being titled, the color of one being different from the other, and general oddities. No deal breakers but still something to think about. Especially for anyone who's ordering from outside the US because although they do free returns you will have to pay to ship them back to the company and depending on where you live you might be paying as much as 25% of your purchase on the exchange alone.

I'd easily pay an extra $100 for that. Because if I bought Thursdays current boots, I'd probably send them to a cobbler sooner than needed so they can throw in that 15oz veg tan leather insole and replace the lasting board with leather. I want to only be standing on leather, cork, and glue, with a rubber outsole.

I own 9 pairs of Thursday boots over the last 5 years. While their boots used to be great for a stylish-enough look without the need to treat them like a newborn baby, their QA is godawful and has only gotten worse as the company has expanded. Their customer service is incredibly unprofessional, passive-aggressive, and rude. And, worst of all, if you get a factory defect and ask for an exchange (you know, because you paid for a brand new boot, not a factory defect with permanent paint marks, peeling leather, scuffs, incorrect lasts, literally being unfinished, and more), they send factory defects in exchange! They told me themselves. What company does that!?
Nowadays, getting a boot without major cosmetic and/or functional defects is like spinning a wheel. I hope they get their QA under control because I used to give Thursday such high praise and was quick to recommend them, but now I recommend alternative brands because I can't ethically recommend someone a brand that sends as many defective products as they do non-defects.
Also, the insoles on half my boots have fallen apart. It's a mess. They don't have the same quality they did years ago. As someone who actually buys my own boots and doesn't get them sent for free, I don't recommend Thursday Boots.
Actually, this isn't an issue of QA. This is just how Thursday does business. Shady, slimey, and untrustworthy.

I have shoes and boots that are over $1K but there is still room in my collection for Thursday Boots. These are not work boots and they're not trying to be. They're like the anti-Red Wing since their overall design aesthetic is to be sleek and not have the bulbous toe. They're style focused so you need to go in with that mindset, otherwise look elsewhere. If you want a large rotation with a wide variety of styles, leathers, and colors that won't break the bank, Thursday is a really great option. Hey. So I'm a casual fan of this channel and I have a question for the boot nerds out there who will most likely know more then me. Is there a boot that is made with specifically mechanic work in mind? I've used a lot of different styles of work boots from Ariat and Georgia boots, up to my current pair which is a set of White's. I've had several I liked more then the others and some I hated, but I have yet to find a set that seems to be able to take the unique abuse that mechanic work involves. So what I'm looking for is a boot that can take the basic abuse of daily work wear, but more so the destruction of constant oil and chemical soaking. I've noticed that, for me, my laces degrade really fast and usually my stitching is the first vital part to give, long before the leather itself really shows any signs of coming apart.
Something else that I would love to find in a boot is a sole that has a lot more traction on an oily concrete floor. I know that's kind of a unrealistic dream, but the traditional rubber or hard foam soles I've used have never served me well as far as that goes.
So does anyone have any thoughts or ideas on a boot I should try or one built specifically for mechanics?

Big fan of the channel and really appreciate what you do here. Looking through these comments though- it seems like it may be really prudent to get your hands another "regular consumer" pair of these and verify that they're as good as that second pair Thursday sent. If they're that good, they might well be the next shoe I invest in!

Okay yada yada yada the dude is getting his bag and that’s fine lol.
I got a pair of capitalism & some of their premier low tops and they’re nothing short of game changing. They’re a fantastic introduction boots and leather material for the price and they’re comfy. What else do y’all want

I have 4 pairs…well, one pair I picked up for my son.
My Thursday Captains, I put approximately 6000hrs in them before I resoled them…which basically cost the price of a new pair. Great boots for the money, however the “Kevlar” laces…suck…lucky to get 6 months out of them.
I also have two pairs of Alene Edmonds Dalton’s and love these boots, big jump in the quality of materials, how they’re made and craftsmanship…and don’t get me wrong, I love them…however I can buy 3:1 Thursday boots to AE’s and I struggle to find or justify the price difference.
Having said all that, I am curious, why we don’t see videos on the AE’s on this channel 🤔

I really like its design. Probably because it reminds me of my Red Wing Iron Rangers so much.
